Today is Sunday, August 1, 2021. At 7:20 am this morning we had NO HOT WATER. I called Payless at 7:30 expecting to leave a message on an answering machine. To my surprise, a nice lady answered the phone and said she could have someone over today between 8-10am. Now this is punctual service ! Sure enough, a wonderful installer/repair man "Danny" (also known as Daniel) showed up as scheduled. He removed our old hot water tank, cleaned up all the water debris mess and installed a brand new water heater. This was all done for a reasonable price and by 11:15am, the new hot water heater had been installed and we had hot water again. Danny was excellent. If I could give Payless 10 stars, I would. Danny was amazing. He worked very efficiently and knows his trade well. I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND Payless for any repairs or replacements of your hot water heater. I even received a follow up phone call from Stephanie of Payless to make sure everything went well with our installation and we were good to go. read more

Wish I could give a 0. Water heater died last night and called this company first thing this morning. Sent Michael out today and was told that he could replace a part to fix the issue. Halfway through the repair he found a leak and I was told that to replace the heater would be $1789. . Told him that I would call another company and he called his manager Josh to see if he could waive the $59.00 service fee. First of all, I was never told about the service fee and Josh basically called me a liar. Well, Josh, go back and listen to your recorded messages and then see if you can call me a liar. This is the second time I've called Payless for one of my rental properties. They are very professional and have superior communication skills. I called late on Monday afternoon and Josh arrived Tuesday morning. He was extremely professional and above all, honest. I was expecting him to recommend that we replace the water heater which is the case 99% of the time, but he told me that it could be repaired. I was shocked and surprised at his honesty. Because of him being so honest, and the water heater being 7 years old, I decided to go ahead and replace the unit with a larger and more efficient unit. These folks are great. Friendly, knowledgeable and very responsive. Jose, Jennifer and Josh and everyone else I talked to were extremely helpful. They arrived right away, assessed my broken water heater and made recommendations. The next day Josh came back with a new 40 gal water heater but then I decided to go tankless. I just had the electronic pilot ignition replaced on my Bradford white water heater. I was charged $699 with a $150 credit because the water heater was still under warranty. I also was given a $20 credit for paying by check. The repair took an hour so I ended paying $500 an hour for work. I also want to say that the technician did a good job. My complaint is with management for charging outrageous prices. I was quoted the price and agreed to it because I had waited 2 days for service and needed the hot water back on. Our old water heater would slowly leak into the pan to be filled up 2-4 weeks from collection of sediments that could have slowly eroded the tank. Called Payless and they are quick to respond to schedule the appointment and service the very next day. I do agree that the cost can be a bit high, but that is the price to pay if anyone wants quick and reliable service, instead of having to wait days or weeks to have the water heater delivered and then scheduled to have it installed. Josh did a good job in the direct replacement, assured us that the installation was up to code, and agreed that HOA manages any modifications to the common area walls. Payless Water Heaters did an excellent job in repairing the control unit on my water heater. The Technician, Jose P called and arrived about one hour ahead of the scheduled appointment time. I explained that when I discovered that I didn't have hot water, I noticed that the pilot light was out and the sensor light was out too, indicating that the control unit most likely had failed. Jose checked the control unit and confirmed that it had failed. Jose then explained the cost of replacing the control unit with discounts for being a senior and paying by check. He mentioned replacement of the entire water heater which is ten years old but did not push it, which I appreciated. The repair took about 1/2 hour. One hour after Jose left, I received a call from Taylor in Customer Service to make sure that I had hot water again. My water heater was inspected by the city mid 2015, when I had a leak; Fedality insurance called in their contractor who claimed there is no ventilation(which we have, no earthquake strap (which we have) we need a new stand (the old one working ok. The insurance would pay $1750 and I have to pay extra $600 to meet the code requirement. I called Payless, their agent confirmed that we meet the code requirement, he replaced the heater, installed new joint for the pum and even a faucet for $1700. Jose was very friendly, explained everything in clear English, and He will pull the permit from city after installation to make sure we are following the code. This company tried to charge my older mom, $1700 for a new 50 gallon water heater install- thank God she called me. As the conversations went on the price came down $350. But they were already exposed and should be ashamed of themselves. She didn't have them do the work but had to pay 85$ service fee. I haven't been this mad in a long time. Outrageous! read more
