Decided to give this a try because a friend said it was inexpensive and their Tom Kha was "better than Sap's (Madam Mam's)." Um, sadly, no. A bowl of TK was $4.95 (awesome) and a "fire pot" was $9. That was a huge plus, even though the fire pot did not have fire under it to keep the soup warm. It was tasty but the chicken was an unusual orange color and there was not a lot of "sour" to it as I'm accustomed to. All this was actually okay with me (especially given the quantity/price ratio), but what was not okay was that there was very little galangal in it and it was minced to where you couldn't help but bite down on it, and the same thing happened with the lemongrass. Some lemongrass was in big pieces so they could be avoided, but lots of it was minced. Sure, that adds a lot of flavor cooking, but just put the minced stuff in a sachet of cheesecloth so you can pull it out for patrons. I kept trying to enjoy my soup but then would end up with a mine field of tough, stringy lemongrass to chew on and remove from my mouth. It was frustrating :( My friend's pad thai seemed rather heavy and oily, though I'm no pad thai expert so take that for what it's worth. The fried rice balls, however? Deeeelish! Red curry mixed with rice and fried, served with a sweet chili sauce. Really tasty. I won't go back because of the lemongrass deal, but it's an okay place with good prices and good service. read more

My advisor likes this place. So whenever he wants to take us to lunch, we go here. The food is good but more importantly, they are not too busy and have a parking lot, which is hard to find around campus. Almost always, I take their pad eggplant delight. It was recommended by my advisor and he takes the same as well almost every time. It's tasty. The menu is not that vegan friendly but you can customize if you talk to the waiter. read more

This place was nice and quiet, but I think it was quiet because even though I love thai food, I would have rather gone next door to Five Guys and got a burger. The food was stereotypical asian food at best. I don't even remember what dish I ordered because it tasted like any dish from a chain ASIAN restaurant. Pad Thai looked promising, a simple name, low profile venue, and did I mention, simple. simplicity can be bliss, but if you're selling food like this you might as well put some pizazz in your venue. the waiter service was ok, nothing offensive, but nothing exceptional either. OK, so back to the food, my dish was edible, had some good taste to it, but DID NOT taste like it should have tasted. I am some what of a chef myself and Thai food is my favorite cuisine to make, and honestly, I could whip up something more authentic even having never been to Thailand. I've made better Tom Yum on my own than they serve there, and Tom Yum is probably the easiest Thai dish to prepare, consider it the Thai Mac 'N' Cheese. On the Plus side, My friend had the Thai version of Pho and it tasted good. PRICE: NOT WORTH IT. Considering the taste and general boring flavors of the food, you're better off going anywhere else. I think Madam Maams price is cheaper or the same and definitely better. Thai Kitchen is cheaper and a heck of alot better. BOTTOM LINE: If you just want something to eat go the Five Guys instead, if you want Thai food don't even stop here. read more

Very nice people. Thai coffee was terrible. Dumplings very yummy. Pad Thai kind of gross; way too salty. Worth another try to see if other dishes are better. The owner herself waited on me, and she was great. The university area doesn't offer much in good food, so I'll give it another try and see if any of their main dishes are better. It's hard to find really good pad thai, and the overwhelming salt taste is a common problem. Titaya's has the same problem with their pad thai. The only decent pad thai I've found in Austin is Madam Mams. read more

Loved the super-friendly service, loved that they were open before 5pm on a Sunday, loved the Gang Panang red curry and that they serve brown rice! The green papaya salad was a great starter, along with a great bowl of soup, both of which they helped my husband and i easily split. The coconut juice was cold & refreshing & not too sweet, and they gave us some to-go, along with mango sticky rice- which, surprisingly, we've been to several Thai restaurants that run out of or don't even have Mango sticky rice. read more

Can't speak to anything but the pad thai but I definitely enjoyed it. Called in a to go order about 30 minutes to close. Props to them for not sounding annoyed (I had been unpleasantly surprised by Thai How Are You's new summer hours). Ordered chicken pad thai, no bean sprouts - it ended up with the sprouts on it, but no big deal. It was a huge portion at a comparable price to other thai places. We walked in 9:30 and were told they were only doing take out, but the people that had walked in before us were sat. We then decided to order take out because we had driven all the way here, and during our order the man at the front interrupted us to let us know they were "out" of the egg rolls. We proceeded to order other things and then I asked if I could get my Thai Tea ahead of time while I was waiting. He didn't even look up at me and abruptly said "No I'll have it out to you at the same time as your food". Absolute horrible customer service and even if the food was as great which it wasn't spectacular, I would never go back here because of how rude the man at the front was. read more

Went for lunch today - was my first trip to the restaurant. They have a $6.99 lunch special which includes a main dish and a self serve soup and salad bar. The soup was delicious and the salad bar, while small, had really nice fresh vegetables. I had the Vermicelli dish (#19) and my wife had #22 which was recommended by the server. We both thought the main courses were really delicious. Lots of vegetables and meat, tasted very fresh and healthy. We will be back. read more

Had a great lunch here. Service was fast and the food delicious. I had the Pad Puk with tofu. The tofu was cooked just eight and the veggies tasted fresh. I also had a Thai tea that was very good. Would recommend this for a fast lunch spot near campus. Also nice that it has a parking lot. read more

I've been a big Titaya's fan for years, and probably eaten there for lunch more than any other restaurant in Austin. However, I think this place is pretty good, and don't get why it gets slagged so often here on Yelp. I stick with the curries, just like at Titaya's; they're not quite as good here, but they're good nonetheless. read more

This place has figured out how to give delicious food with decent prices, however their service and the way the entire restaurant is run is just off. First lets talk about what I've eaten here, their egg rolls are good and crunchy but not as flavorful as other places. What I will rave and rant about is the FREE soup & salad with lunch portions, which is 7.99. I LOVE their vermicelli bowls, they are HUGE and I have never finished a whole bowl in one sitting and ALWAYS have leftovers. My friend always gets dishes with rice but Ive noticed those portions are SO small compared to the vermicelli bowl. Watch out with the spicy levels, for some reason two spicy levels can mean 1 or 3 just depends on the day. Also the Thai Tea is delicious! Get it in store and not to-go because the in store ones are SO BIG. Check out the pictures someone posted a pic of the tea. Now.....the service....normally i come during lunch and there is this blond waitress that literally has the worst service. We sat down and we were waiting for about 7 minutes before I had enough sense to go get a menu myself, then after waiting another 10, I had to literally call her over to ask her if we could order and what was she doing.....cleaning a table...why?? You have new customers you don't just clean tables, that happens after everyone has their drinks filled and orders in. Did not make sense at all. read more

This is a screaming deal. For the price of an entry at any Thai Restraint in the area plus an all you can eat salad and soup bar. The salad bar is not extensive but has all the fresh salad basics and the soup is very good. Also there is a canister of warm peanut sauce you can use to season you meal or salad to your specifications. The entree quality if equivalent to any Thai restaurants I have eaten in Austin. I am happy to day I feel like I just got out of a buffet when I have combined the salad, soup and entree. I never leave hungry. The staff is very courteous and proficient, and just plain nice to deal with. This is the kind business I like to see succeed based on the value they deliver. read more

Pad Thai is delicious and in a league of it's own when it comes to Thai food in Austin. Think of this place as a Madam Mam's with the flavor turned WAY up, and nicer waitstaff. (don't get me started on Mams' awful service!) I've taken many of my friends here to have pad thai for the first time and not one hasn't LOVED the dish. I've adored SE Asian cuisine my whole life and this place stays very true to its roots. Authenticity is key when cooking SE Asian food and while others use powdered mixes and ramen noodles(MADAM MAM'S), Pracha only uses spices she'd have in her own home. I used to be the owner's banker and believe me, she's legit. Haha. read more

On the drag today around lunch time so I thought I'd try someplace I hadn't eaten at before. So here I was at Pad Thai. Had the Pad Kee Mao with the soup of the day. Let me just say I have eaten much better Thai food elsewhere. Beginning with the soup--a bland, almost sweet, mixture of coconut milk and tofu. Then came the entrée which was OK I guess if you don't like spicy food. Again, it was bland and without heat or spicy flavor. The mushrooms were kind of rubbery, but at least the onions and bell peppers still had some crunch to them. Next time I'm in the area, I will skip Pad Thai and go to the Five Guys next door. read more

I went there on Saturday 7/26/14 for pad Thai and Thai tea. I seated myself as the waiter/cashier was no where in sight. When he finally presented he was nonchalant. After he delivered my food he never stopped by to ask about the meal. The thai tea was excellent. However, the pad Thai was the worst I've ever had. I ordered egg rolls and pad puk. I proceeded to puke violently after finishing. I think the rice was spoiled from being old and reheated, or sitting in a heater all day. Stay away, not worth it. My family and I were staying at the AT&T Hotel and Conference Center at UT Austin for one night. There were plenty of cheap, student-friendly restaurants nearby, but we stumbled upon this quaint place. It was about 2 o'clock in the afternoon when we went and the restaurant was completely empty and one of the staff was asleep with his head on a table in the corner. We were told to sit wherever and were quickly waited upon. I ordered Pad Thai and dumplings to share. The dumplings were just okay - kind of bland. The Pad Thai was pretty good, not the best I have ever had. I definitely suggest squeezing lime on the dish; it completely elevates it! Halfway through our meal, weird musical theater music came blasting over the speakers, which really took me by surprise. I'm not sure if I would go back...not spectacular but good considering I payed $15. read more
