It's Thursday. I've gone every morning to get a coffee and sandwich and every morning (8:30am, 9am, 9:30am) the place is completely backed up and impossible to get anything in less than 10 minutes. Not because it is too popular, but because the service is soooo damn slow. I tried this place on a recent trip to New York. The cold brew coffee is excellent and hands down this is the best veggie burger I've ever had. It has a great little outside seating area and a superb beer collection. Try the black and white cookies for dessert, delicious. read more

As a grumpy New Yorker, I find it easier to complain than to compliment, and it can be sheer torture to say something nice. That said, this review is effortless for me. Since I last complained about Peck's, the service there has undergone a complete overhaul. The service is rapid and much less persnickety and even if there's a long line, it moves along at a good clip. The staff is friendly, but they don't slow down the line chatting with their friends; and the whole feel of the place seems to have been streamlined. The food there is still awesome and actually seems to get better. I'm thinking of the Pogaca specifically--never heard of it before and now I get it a couple of times a week. Oh, and most importantly, Peck's is the ONLY place in the hip Brooklyn Bermuda Triangle that can do a decent espresso. When I order espresso long at other joints, I get lectures ("Actually, it's a double rissssstretto." "Like, uh, I'm only supposed to pull for 3.8 seconds." Etc.) followed up with a cup of sputtering, undrinkable crap. (My fault for trying.) Peck's, on the other hand, make a perfect, creamy (not tangy, not bitter) espresso that tastes like an espresso should. Seems simple, but 9 out of 10 cafes can't do it. Kudos to you guys. read more

Tried to give me used coffee. I went here for the first time with my parents last weekend. We ordered three espressos. A man came in a few minutes after we ordered to return his espresso that was suppose to be a cappaccino. The 'barista' said sorry for the mistake then handed that espresso to my mom. We were a bit shocked and thought we must be confused. She asked the guy if this was the espresso that was just returned. He said yes. He ended up making another fresh espresso for us. I have tried iced coffee all over the world, and I think I have finally found my perfect cup here at Peck's. It is the smoothest, most delicious ice coffee you will ever have. Also, just love this place in general. Everyone is so friendly and nice. The food and sandwiches are fantastic. I'm particularly a fan of their juicy rotisserie chicken, yum. I want to love Peck's. It seemed a to be a nice find in the neighborhood. First visit (for breakfast to go) we were given someone else's order discovered after the walk home. The second visit, we missed breakfast by 5 minutes past 11am and told it was too late, and on the third visit a biscuit and maple sausage was not cooked in the middle (pink, rare sausage, no thank you). It seems there is potential but I am 3 for 3 on disappointing experiences. read more

Peck's has the best deli meat selection in the neighborhood. They also have delicious fresh breads. The very best is the sea salt chocolate chip cookie. Savory sweet decadence! I don't have those cookies often, so when I do I really look forward to it. read more

Hands down the best breakfast sandwich I've had so far in NYC. I literally eat it every day! I recommend the sausage egg and cheese but with bacon it's great too. What makes it so great is the Portuguese roll the eggs cooked to perfection and finished in a top heating oven along with the handmade sausage patty it's just crack! This place has a lot of potential; they have high quality/thoughtful products and food. However, the staff is simply unpleasant. It'd be nice to get a smile, a smirk, anything. But instead I'm greeted, time and time again, with a blunt "what do you want." There is a friendly server, often cheesemongering, who I'm happy to see. He's also the best barista. Very recently moved to the area from the city. This is my favorite spot in the area now. Food and baked goods are made fresh every day and coffee is great. Mr Peck was born for this and is a great host. Great outdoor space too. I have seen two famous people in here, Morgan Spurlock was here with his kids one morning and the bad guy from True Detective (first season). Local favorite. I would choose this over Starbucks any day of the week! read more

This place makes really good sandwiches, but you gotta be patient. This can be hard for the stroller set, but one thing I've noticed is that this place holds itself accountable. Did I wait a little too long for 2 sandwiches on a Saturday afternoon? Sure. Did they acknowledge it and offer me a free cookie? Yes they did. That goes a long way in my book. read more

This was a bad experience from the start. When I asked if it was possible for my breakfast sandwich to be made on a croissant the guy at the counter instantaneously said no. Theres no reason if you have croissants that you can't accommodate that request, even if it were at an up-charge (which I would have paid to not get my sandwich on a flattened roll). Not realizing that there was an additional charge for bacon and that it was $7 for 1 egg and 1 slice of cheese on a roll, I did not request it. The counter guy did not ask if I would like bacon on my breakfast sandwich either so I wound up disappointed and paying a ridiculous amount for hardly anything on my sandwich. On top of all of this while I was waiting for my sandwich I saw a cockroach crawl under the deli meat fridge (gross). Overall this place is extremely overpriced, the customer service is bad, and must not be clean if there are roaches. No reason to go here there are far superior places in the area. read more

This neighborhood is so unbelievably underserved in quality homemade items, and this place comes through splendidly. I have no clue why these people are complaining about supposedly small sandwiches. I get em a few times a week and am totally satisfied. Keep up the good work! The ladies who make the sandwiches are some of the nicest people and don't mind me bugging em while I wait. The breakfast is good but dear god why close the kitchen from 1130-1230 on weekends and refuse to serve eggs after that?

We went to Peck's for breakfast today with great anticipation, because we have sampled Theo's wares in the past in a different setting. Unfortunately, the counter service was off-putting. The milk for our coffee was sour and when we pointed it out, the server said that he could replace the coffee but he would have to charge us! And when we paid our bill, he basically demanded a tip. The breakfast sandwiches were good but quite honestly, just a step up from Egg McMuffins. All in all it was not worth the trip from E. Williamsburg. Sorry to say this, because we think Theo is a gifted chef. read more

We really like Pecks. I just wish they stayed open later, had more/better prepared food, and maybe more selections of cheeses.

Good coffee and yummy pastries. Come here for the breakfast sandwiches though (tip: they stop serving them after 11:45am on the weekends - not sure about weekdays), especially the consistent and delicious shakshuka (if you aren't vegetarian, add bacon to this one). They have a great patio in the back during nice weather, or you can grab one of the (few) seats in the back, next to the kitchen. This place also has a solid selection of gourmet food and craft beer along an entire wall and in the back fridge, respectively. The only reason I didn't give Peck's five stars is because sometimes the service at the front is hit/miss - service with a smile is appreciated and goes a long way, so thanks to the people at the register who are in a good mood (shout-out to the cooks in the back, who are always great!). read more

This place is just too expensive for what they serve and the neighborhood their in. Its sad that a corn muffin is $3.50, its a muffin of corn! Most of the baked goods are kept on the countertop next to the register, too exposed to the elements. Also their service system is confusing and often leads to missed orders, awkward which coffee is which moments, or someone giving you a second muffin because they didn't catch the fact that the person who took your order already gave you a muffin--this has happened on several occasions (although they should give you two for the $5 they're asking). My girlfriend has caught on to an eggshell problem in the egg and cheddar sandwiches; once was unfortunate, twice aggravating, the third time she decided to open it up rather than chew through the crunch only to find the mother load of eggshells, and big pieces too (she hasn't ordered the egg sandwich again since). A recent try of the "farmers muffin" revealed a barely cooked soft boiled egg, with runny whites and a too peppery outer crust...soft boiled doesn't mean raw. The over-curated groceries are pretentious and ready made foods along similar price points to the baked goods. The coffee is what keeps us coming back, although we feel conflicted about it. read more

I often find myself running errands here in my neighborhood and suddenly I am just dying for something savory. I just want to get it and move on...munching as I go. This place fills that niche for me. The maple biscuit is my favorite...especially when it has bacon in it. The meatballs have been the perfect answer to "I don't feel like cooking tonight" and the half pound of prosciutto I just finished was delicious. I have also taken home the whole roast chicken which was juicy and fresh. I would LOVE it if they started carrying caviar as there is nowhere (not that I am aware of anyway) to obtain it around here so I always have to order it or hop into Manhattan. While it may be a bit pricey for the median income of the neighborhood I am not doing my whole week of food shopping there but I pop in for something yummy once to several times a week so yeah, I'm a fan. The staff is also very attentive which is seriously lacking at most places around here so anywhere I can go where I don't have to beg people to take my money is cool with me. read more
