    Chicken parm sub
    Mike H.

Old school cash only Italian deli 1 block from Second Street. They similarly offer cheap 9 inch subs with homemade ingredients, as well as bread baked in house. I got the chicken parm sub ($9) and a small Italian baguette ($2). The sub was very good, but the chicken could use a little more moisture and flavor, and the bread was tough

Delicious is not the right word. But it's close.

I go here a lot. I have loved the bread and food from day 1. I have tasted almost everything and still come running back. My wife loves it as well. I always make sure I have some cash on hand if I'm close by to it. They only take cash. Go and get a sandwich you'll be amazed

What a local gem. This is a no-frills Italian bakery selling all kinds of fresh brick oven breads, Italian cookies, and made-to-order sandwiches. The storefront doesn't look like much (blink and you'll miss it!), but it has a lot to offer. I noticed the stuffed breads were selling out, so I decided to try the prosciutto & mozzarella bread and the eggplant parm bread. Both were fantastic! Although the prosciutto & mozzarella were unevenly spread throughout the bread, when you get a bite of both, it's like a match made in heaven. The eggplant parm was also delicious - the baked eggplant was soft without being soggy and the tomato sauce was light and sweet. I would absolutely come back for the eggplant parm. While I was here I noticed someone ordering a sandwich, and all the ingredients were freshly cut on the spot. What a perfect simple lunch and so affordable at only $6! Why go to Subway's when you can get a fresh footlong with quality bread here. Remember to bring money when you stop by. This place is cash only.

Finally visited best sandwiches in jersey city! I said it! Thank you for staying around and providing the people with great food and bread!

Old school and a breadth of fresh air. Get the chicken parmigiana sandwich, it's amazing. The stuffed breads are good, though a tad bit too much bread for my pallet. Pick up some bread on your way back from the PATH! Italian sandwiches for lunch tomorrow!

Great local shop - as others have said, it's tiny, but great traditional Italian sandwich for a decent price, including fresh made mozzarella. Love it.

    Chicken parmigiana

Pecoraro aka antique bakery is a great spot for fresh bread and some key sandwiches. As far as their bread, they've got a solid variety and also have breads stuffed with, eggplant, olives, sausage, or pepperoni. They're chicken parm is, I think, the best in jersey city. They toast the bread, have a good amount of juicy white chicken breast on it, good sauce, good cheese, and what they don't that gives it the extra pop it needs and you didn't realize a chicken parm needed prior to having it, was graded parmigiana cheese on top. It's called a parmigiana because of where it derives from in Italy, not the mozzarella cheese they use, but now you can get a parm with parm on it.

It's usually a good thing when you walk into a bakery and everyone is speaking Italian. First off the place was spotless and all I got was a buttered roll but which was very good. Was convenient that they had tea and the lady behind the counter was very nice. Would definitely come back here to try other things.

Same as Antique Bakery nearby (which was renovating on our visit), this place dished up a solid 'Italian loaf'.

Great, no frills, bakery in downtown JC. We bought the small loaf and used it as a bread bowl.

The stuffed breads here are great. I used to go here every weekend when I lived in JC and now try and stop in whenever I'm in the area.

I've never eaten anything that I didn't like. My faves are: milhojas, breakfast croissant sandwich, and any and every cake with dulce de leche filling. I only tiny, minuscule complaint I have about this place is the lack of signage for the pastries and cakes. It would be nice to know what I'm looking at without having the ask. Absolutely zero gatekeeping here. Please everyone keep patronizing this establishment. I need this place to continue to exist in my hood.

So get anything fresh, like made to order cakes or things you see come out right when you're there. Otherwise you run the risk of getting old stuff, which sucks that they don't manage that at all. On a Sunday afternoon lines moved quickly and we were able to find seats. This is a cute cafe that offers plenty of savory items and lunches, plus drinks like matcha, cakes, pastries and cookies. There is also a bathroom! The women behind the counter were all nice and patient with my questions, they also kept the line moving and were quick. I had high hopes for the Alfajores as this is an Argentinian bakery but unfortunately the ones given to me were stale. The cookie was very hard. Also the Dulce de leche was too sweet and burnt tasting to me. I also got a chocolate covered one and the cookie in that was also hard and dry. The strawberry croissant was amazing. Never had anything like that before. Not too sweet and very flaky. It has a ribbon of red on the outside which gives it a unique look. I would love to come back and try savory items. I'll continue to stick with the cakes and croissants for desert and make sure it's fresh!
