It's hot today, like hot enough that I wonder if my OB home is going to be underwater when I get home because Antarctica is not going to make it in what I call "stand outside for five minutes and try to tell me global warming ain't real you ignorant republican" type of weather. Now, before you assume I am stupid, I DO know that the temperature in San Diego is not indicative of what is going on in the world right now. For example, I bet it's not 87+ degrees in New York right now. (I can say this with confidence because of the rain delayed baseball games on the east coast (told you I wasn't stupid)). OK, but I digress. I needed a place with caffeine (in any form) iced. I need a place with AC, and I needed WiFi. Since I am boycotting NewBreak in OB, I was elated to find Peet's had all three. Their WiFi is on a 2 hour limit. Which I can understand. But the staff here is OH so nice, I bet when I get booted 43 minutes, they will print out another code for me. (If they don't I will promptly update this review.) As for the coffee. Man Peet's french roast sets the bar for me. I fricking LOVE their coffee. Peet's and Starbuck's cannot be compared. I am so grateful they put a good coffee place out here on the Point. I like that there are so many great retail options out near Point Loma Nazarene University for all those nearby righteous Christian college students. Peet's coffee jacks me up as good as Starbuck's. They also put out used coffee grounds for customers to take for their compost gardens-without the used coffee filters like Starbuck's coffee grounds. I finally got a nice yellow rose out of an old, mildewed rose bush-thanks to their expresso left-overs. The rich people of Point Loma pull up in their BMW's and Mercedes and run in for their caffeine fix just like us regular folks. There is a good mix of peeps that whip out their laptops and hang out there. However, I had to deduct 1 YELP STAR because now The Old Guys Club has decided to make this their headquarters. Used to be these retired fogeys would take up a valuable corner down in OB at the Starbucks on Newport. When I would sit and read the newspaper near them I could hear their every little comment about whatever female pulchritude passed by. It was horrible! Not only are these old crones too old to be looking but it made me so self-conscious to think of what they would be saying when I got up to leave. There is nothing Peet's can do to scatter these seniors, but take note that just about every weekday morning, about 8 graybeards will be gathered in a prime corner of Peet's drinking their coffee and ogling. Otherwise, Peet's is great. Butterfly the Hula Hoop Lady is still sometimes out there early in the morning on nice days. Why this escapee from hippie Ocean Beach comes up to the top of the hill for her coffee is beyond me? Maybe she is hot for one of the old guys inside? Love is all around at Peet's.. read more

I love how they do their tea if you drink it there instead of taking it to go: They give it to you in a pot and give you a filter for the leaves, so you can brew it as strong as you want. You get a real mug to drink it in, and a real plate for your baked goodie (I am slightly addicted to their vegan ginger cookie). We rarely make it all the way down to Point Loma but had to pull into Peet's since they're pretty rare in San Diego county. As you can tell from my photo, I'm an avid Peet's fan but I was disappointed in this experience. It looked really nice but the service and the quality of their shots was forgetable. We were immediately "greeted" by a very blah and robotic worker. My daughter ordered the Pomegranate Tea but soon realized that it was full of sugar. When she took it back and said that she didn't realize it was going to be so sweet they said all they could do is give her green tea. Well that's not entirely true, they should have offered to make her any tea of her choice. The coffee was so so. All in all a disappointment, but not terrible. read more

As always, Peets coffee is the best. I usually get straight coffee and an occasional freddo (frappacino). The pastries are tasty. This Peets has plenty of parking (as opposed to Hillcrest) and isn't too crowded. There is a row of padded seating with wall outlets for laptops. Wi-Fi is free with purchase. The only cons are that it's not as accessible as Hillcrest and it doesn't have the drain where you can dump excess coffee (you have to use the trash can). read more

We go here often and always have a good experience. Food and drinks are always tasty and fresh. It has a nice coffee shop ambiance, and often has soft classical music playing in the background, which is much better for conversation than the coffee shops that play loud music. It's a busy place, but we have always gotten a table. The only reason I didn't give it a five is because the servers, while very efficient and knowledgeable, are not very friendly. I walked in there after doing a walk on the cliffs to get an iced coffee and they were kind of rude! There's signs everywhere I understand it's Covid and then they yell at you from over the thing if you've ordered some thing already and no I did not order something ahead of time. Which I didn't know I had to and then they're like we'll go over to that cash register so I go to one cash register and then they're like no the middle register so I go to the middle one and I order my iced coffee and then I proceed to give them my $50 bill because that's all I had with me. He says NO we're not taking cash at the time and I said well that's all I have. He didn't take it so I walked out and left and will never go back again. I understand very clearly it's Covid cause I'm a nurse in a hospital. Put your gloves on and chill out though...geeshhh! Be nicer too! read more

Whenever I get the pleasure of working over on Point Loma, I swing by Peet's for an early morning pick me up. Because I go here only a few times a year, I pretend it's a local coffee shop and that makes it all so much better! Bonus points for the hula hooping lady in the parking lot! There is usually a line in the morning because everyone is coming in on their way to work, but there are always 2 or 3 cashiers and separate baristas making the drinks so it moves quickly. Lately, I've been obsessed with the chai latte and it has a distinct flavor that I haven't tasted before. I also appreciate the freshness of the baked goods and the fact that I can order a small, medium, or large beverage without getting back handed... If you're in the area, go to Peet's. Friendly service, interesting crowd (high schoolers, college kids, middle aged, old, everyone flocks here), and quality coffee chain but not as popular so it still feels authentic products! read more

I try to frequent the independent coffee shops rather than the chains (when I'm not brewing my own tea/coffee), but this one does have a nice mellow vibe, and nice mix of patrons. Tried the matchee green tea latte (unsweetened) for something new, and I have to say, it was very strange -- tasted like seaweed. Not that I'm opposed to seaweed, just not in my morning beverage. Also, wish they had the calorie content on their menu, like Starbucks does (aren't they required to?) On a positive note, got my daughter the banana bread, and she loved it. read more

I generally prefer small locally owned coffee shops, but if I have to go to a chain, Peet's definitely hits the mark in terms of quality coffee, espresso and teas. Peets averages at 3.5 stars for me, but this seems to be the best bet for a decent drink in the immediate area, hence the 4 stars. The workers have always been pleasant and a little friendly. The atmosphere is a little lacking, they should try to make them a little more homey and less standardized. This location is pretty large though with plenty of seating. Internet is the worst. Can't get an email to send. I've had this problem the last 3 times I've been here. I return hoping the problem is fixed after letting baristas know but still hasn't been fixed. This is the only Peet's I have been to, and it's definitely my go to when I need some coffee. I prefer Peet's over Starbucks because it doesn't have that "processed and rushed" flavor. I usually order a vanilla latte, and they are quick to bring it out. For a chain store, they know how to give vanilla lattes the right flavor. It tends to be more on the sweet side which I don't mind, but doesn't taste like syrup was just pumped in and is sitting on the bottom. The staff is friendly and helpful, and the place is often crowded with students studying, but spots often open up. read more

Today I needed a place to study with free internet access and a cup of liquid motivation. First of all, clearly better quality coffee than Star*ucks, so Peet's is my preferred coffee chain. I also prefer studying here over other neighborhood coffee joints because at least their furniture is clean and solid, and doesn't look like a collection of rejected furniture in the alleyways of Ocean Beach. But I just learned that their wi-fi isn't exactly 'free'. You have to request a code upon purchase, which is uniquely generated and printed out on a receipt they hand you, and only lasts one hour. I had began with one latte, but ended up having to buy a $0.99 box of apple juice to continue for the second hour. The second time it seemed to go over the hour limit, so maybe they were being nice and managed to extend my time. Also, had a problem with the A/C running too cold. I asked the really helpful manager to "lower it a notch or two," but I couldn't tell whether he actually did. I guess it works as an instant refreshment for guests coming in from the heat outdoors, but if you're dressed for said heat (ie shorts, tank & flipflops), recently showered with wet head of hair, sensitive to the cold, and intending to stay for any length of time, I recommend coming prepared with 'layers' of clothing (ie a jacket). Brrr! It's also weird how the male employees seem cooler and a little more jovial, while the girls appear miserable or bored, or maybe just miserably bored. read more

I never get to spend time relaxing here and always have to grab my coffee or pastry and dash. But it always looks so comfortable so just sit and relax here. Peets has the bestest coffee and friendlyest staff. I especially like it during Christmas when they come out with the peppermint mochas! Yummy!!!! And heck... if you're going to get that many calories, then go for the whipped cream too. The pastries i find sometimes look old.... don't be fooled. Their frosted cinnamon roll is delicious. It is always fresh, delicious and juicy. It just appears to be dry. Take a bite... you'll be pleasantly surprised. I think their drinks might be the best corporate coffee drinks. The staff here is amazing. Whatever they might lack in drinks they make up for in service. The location is primo and they can make drinks for-here in delightful dishes. There's an outdoor patio and lots of indoor seating and electrical outlets. Came here the other day with friends and was a little disappointed. We all ordered together, received our pastries immediately and were told to wait for our drinks. I was a little annoyed all 3 drinks came out at different times. It was especially difficult since we were sitting outside and had to go back inside three times. Great spot to get coffee and some food before heading to the yacht club. Their big competitor is Starbucks but I have always found Peets to be better. Their roasts are strong, their staff is great, they don't eat or drink behind the bar. The seating is comfortable, you can just relax for a while before hitting the ocean. Peets Coffee Point Loma doesn't have the kooky characters and as many canine customers as the Hillcrest facility, but it is quieter and there are plenty of places to sit and PLENTY of parking. Service is excellent, warm smiling faces and there isn't all the excessive and unflattering facial hair that Hillcrest Peets employees like to sport. Peets Point Loma has two restrooms instead of one unisex restroom and they are spotless. The last time me and my cutie pie were there, some very talented teenage harpists were charming us with their music. read more

My husband and I come here at least twice a week. We love this place. The baristas are excellent and the entire staff is super friendly and have great memories for your order. The pastries are fresh. It may just be me, but I miss the Blended Freddos. Javivas are decent drinks, but the Blended Freddos were amazing. I was never disappointed with the Freddos, however Javivas have been more of a gamble of flavor that usually taste more like syrup with a little bit of coffee added. I am hoping that the baristas are just slowly adjusting to the new way of preparing their blended drinks. This place has great coffee for a great price as well. They also have pastries and bagels available for your breakfast. Parking is generally pretty easy as there is a big lot available. There are bathrooms available as well, non-gender neutral for those wondering about this. Staff members are super nice, most being young but still nonetheless very nice. After walking around Sunset Cliffs for a few hours then walking up Hill street to this shopping mall on Catalina we were hot and thirsty and this was the perfect place for some iced coffees and chilling at the outside tables under a parasol for a while. Luckily we were able to grab a spot right in the corner area as some other party was leaving. Inside is spacious and there are two bathrooms around the back. Service was very friendly and quick. I usually don't spend a lot of time chilling at coffee shops - especially chains - but I felt very comfortable in this place. Laid back and low sketch factor - you can feel safe here. This is the only Peet's I know of close to me. There's a big parking lot it shares with the other businesses in the mall. It was amusing to see how many people thought the second door to Peet's - that leads to the bathrooms - was the entrance to the next door yogurt place. Later on when I looked back as we were leaving I noticed the two halves of this Peet's location were painted different colors so it's easy to think that door leads to a different business. LOL. Located in the Point Loma Marketplace Neighborhood Center mall in a triangle created by Talbot Street to the north, Catalina boulevard to the west and Cañon street to the southeast. This is one my regular stops when I ride my bicycle in Point Loma. It's conveniently located to the right as you descend from the point. My usual order is a shot of espresso and a scone. For about $5. They usually have plenty of seating available. I tend to sit outside to watch my bike. Service is great, coffee ok- I prefer local micro roasters over chains (beans tend to be more flavorful and fresh) but there aren't any decent ones around this area so Pete's does it. read more

mmmmmm! Coffee. You know-coffee is the only completely legal drug besides sugar and nicotine? It is strong at Peets..really strong. Like your spoon might be able to stand alone in the cup. I was referred to this coffee shop by my brother and was very shocked there coffee is a lot better than Starbucks . They have really good strong coffee and defiantly enjoyed my white iced mocha.
