Grumpy people work here, inconsistent hours. No 'medium' cups in stock for over a week. Seems very poorly managed

I used to be a morning regular and everyone knew my name and order. I always felt welcomed and the team made my mornings. I came in a few times in the last weeks and waited over 30+ mins for my order and the poor baristas were stressed and angry. I had no idea what happened to the old crew and the coffee shop that i used to loved coming into until I ran into a group of them in the plaza and told me the team was wiped out after an ongoing battle with upper management about racism and discrimination. Moving forward, I will never support Peet's Coffee again. The store made me and everyone around them feel like family, I loved coming in and cracking a smile with them but to hear how the company treated them is inexcusable. There's plenty of local coffee shops. At least you can see how much money their losing with the bogus hours they now have or just closed in general. Very well deserved, Peet's coffee. I usually don't write reviews for Peet's that I visit because my Caramel Macchiato always taste amazing even if there is a variation in the speed of service or cleanliness of the location. However, I have to give a 2 stars on my visit to this location yesterday for the quality of my drink. It tasted like it only had one shot of expresso instead of two in my medium iced Caramel Macchiato. There was a ribbon of caramel so thin sitting at the bottom of my cup that I wondered if they had ran out of caramel. It was pathetic. This was quite upsetting because this drink was made so poorly that I felt ripped off paying $4.70 for something that tasted like a $3 iced coffee. P.S. Been coming here for years, there is one barista/cashier who apparently hates her job and poses extreme Attitude. She is like this every time I come in. They keep changing the hours. A few weeks ago for a long time it was open until 5. Then last week or so all of a sudden it was only open until 3pm. Ok cool sure. Now today there's a paper sign that says hours are from 7:30 to 11:30am. No that's not good for customers they're losing a lot like me. A lot of people drink coffee during lunch so idk why this is happening maybe they're short staffed it always seems busy when I go in so I'm not sure why they don't hire more. I specifically asked for the largest size frappe, a medium was on the counter. Luckily I noticed it was 25% less then a large size, so the barista was kind enough to redo it. When we drank it, it tasted like watered down coffee and was bland and flavorless. At the last 1/3 when you get to the bottom was foamy water. Also the clerk said I couldn't get peppermint added bc it has mocha flavor already. Went to Starbucks right after wards and ordered the exact same drink. It was day and night difference, it was tasty with mocha and at the end it wasn't watered down foam like Peet's. Plus we had the peppermint added. It was sooo good and you can really taste the mocha. I've been here numerous times the frappe were delicious. This place went downhill in terms of the service (accuracy of the order) certainly the taste. Who wants to spend $6.00 on ice watered down flavorless coffee? I can make a better frappe. We're going to the West Portal store next time even if we have to drive further. read more

Do not go to this Peet's. I have been coming here due it being close to my work. Now I rather drive farther for Starbucks than come here. More than a few times they gave me a cup of coffee that tasted like watered down brown liquid instead of coffee. Their coffee is very inconsistent and their quality management is very poor. Not to mention, they cost more than Starbucks! It's a shame because this location is prime. What a waste of location. Whenever I get coffee from here, it never gets me going. Now I know why. This specific chain water down their coffee so they can save on the amount of beans used. Very sad. This chain needs to be audited by corporate. The renovation is nice but they are too lenient with non service dogs being allowed inside. Management & workers need to be clearer with the laws. Two dogs were barking & growling aggressively at one another multiple times & for prolonged lengths. People even spilled their coffee because of the ruckus. How on earth did this Peet's location receive a 100 on their health score?!?!?!? As I waited in line to order my latte yesterday (07.27.15), I saw a bunch of little flies hover over the pastries and fly directly into the pastries. Unfortunately, I didn't have my phone on me, otherwise, I would have taken pictures. The fly problem was pointed out 3 months ago from Darlene M.'s review. According to her review, an employee by the name of "It's Ben" said he (& I assume the store manager) knew of the problem and it would be fixed. Well, it's been 3 months and the fly problem still hasn't been fixed. Who knows what kind of bacteria or diseases these flies carry? I find it very questionable that they received a 100 on their health score when the pastries being sold are infested with these flies. Shout out to Winnie the Sloat store manager. She guided the expansion of the shop during the holidays. Working 70+ hours a week, she kept her calm and pulled it off. Winnie remained friendly/engaging through it all though she must have been stressed. This location has the best shift managers - shout out to Pablo - and the best baristas. The expansion is great! I haven't been here since the pandemic started. It's super clean, nice and spacious now, and the staff are as nice and helpful as ever! I really appreciate how patient they are with my lack of coffee lingo and they always help me figure out how to order exactly what I like, then I leave knowing what to order in the future. For example, I am sensitive to hot temperatures and they taught me I can order with the word "warm" instead of explaining that I need ice cubes or milk to cool my coffee. And that works for hot coco too for my kids. I can say "warm" or "kids temp." Anyway, just wanted to give my kudos for all the friendly service I've had over the years! read more

The coffee people (I don't think they call themselves baristas) are really nice and accommodating here. Although there can be a lot of distractions--maybe not the best place to study--I still think it's a great place to meet with a friend over a cup of coffee and catch up. I was able to find an open seat right away & it was next to an outlet. The internet is free and doesn't require you to use a code from the cashier like some other Peet's Coffee joints that I've been to. Like Starbucks, you just connect to the internet (called Peet's) and agree to their terms and conditions. When you check-in on yelp, you can get a discount for $1 off a caramel macchiato for any size. I opted for the coffee. It's $1.90 for a small medium, dark or decaf. It's $2.10 & $2.40 for a medium and large, respectively. Their medium roasts taste just like most coffee I've had. I'm no connoisseur by any means, so I can't describe the difference in taste. Overall, the people are friendly and seem to know people in the neighborhood. There was a man in a wheelchair who they were very friendly to. It seemed like he was a frequent customer. Overall, it's a good place to hang out, but as with all coffee shops, it's noisy (with the blender going off, constant chatter and music). I wouldn't recommend it for serious study. Though I appreciate that you DO provide recycling and comparing options for your customers, they're clearly very confused as to what can go in where. Look at my photo. There are a TON of compostable wooden stir sticks in the landfill bin, and plastic in the compost bin. Please refrain from distributing plastic straws. Google refuse the straw to understand how the 5 billion plastic straws being thrown away every day are toxic to our environment. They contain BPA they're not recyclable And they're one of the top ten most frequently found litter items on beaches world wide Distribute paper straws. They're compostable. Provide napkins made of 100% post consumer recycled materials. And please, PLEASE, provide signs with pictures informing customers about what items can go in each bin. So many materials could avoid the landfill if you just made your customers aware. And they'll feel good about themselves for helping the planet. PLEASE make these changes. -Cero read more

They are too small for me compared to other stores but I still like this store. They have a bunch of pastries. I would prefer a breakfast sandwich in the morning but what they have will do. The coffee is real damn good. If you like your coffee black with no cream and no water added then come here. I had my first ever cup of coffee here and it was intense. I was so wired. Anyway, good coffee. The espresso is good. Get a vanilla latte and call it a day. The vanilla be oh so good!! Yep. The one guy in the morning be funny. He always says "5 star everything cuz 4 don't count". That's funny because we do survey like that at my job. He is awesome guy. He is always smiling. I think he's a supervisor or something. Clearly this site needs some updated ratings! My gosh. I think this location is one of the best in the City - for a minute I thought people were talking about West Portal, which is THE WORST. I'm a teacher and have been coming to this location forever. Every single person acknowledges and greets me in a friendly neighbor kind of way, chit chats as long as isn't holding up the line, remembers my drink, recommends things to me, and offers well wishes (and sometimes encouragement) when it's clear I'm not having the greatest day. There have been some changes in personnel lately - some really great ones have been promoted or moved on. I heard they may be expanding the space to which I say "Super Yay". I'd love to be able to sit and read without disturbing the sprightly over 60 crowd that always meets up there and hogs the tables. One thing I will say is that the reviews that mention fruit flies are ridiculous - that's life people. Sometimes food attracts flies and ants. They handled it quickly and appropriately. The composting mess? Hi, this is San Francisco, people know what goes where and don't care. Peet's receptacles are labeled. Is it their fault that people pour half their coffees out into the garbage can to add cream too? No, those people are just lame. And guess who has to clean up those garbage bags full of liquid at the end of the night...not you. I think it's a great crew. I love the convenience. The only thing I don't like is the order ahead feature because I like the experience of going to Peet's, not just the drink I walk away with. read more

The music is so loud - more like the volume in a concert. Might be good towards mid-day, but early in the morning is a jolt to me. Because of the volume, people are yelling when placing their order or talking at top of their lungs just to be heard. Add to this are the dumping of containers in the metal sink and the swirling/mixing of drinks. I refuse to go here again. read more

This is my first review at Yelp so I think the review probably will get filtered. We'll see. The location of this Peets is just couple blocks away from my cousin's house in Sunset, San Francisco. Every time when I'm in this cafe, I always can't find a table to sit. ( there are only three tables total in this cafe. Kind of funny, isn't it?) If you come certain part of the day, the parking is all packed especially during lunch hours. This cafe closes at 8 every night which is kind of early for any regular cafes. read more

One of my favorite Peet's branches in the city. Perfect spot to chill and take a breather while sipping your favorite cup of coffee before a busy weekend or to grab a cup in route to the grocery/clothes shopping next door. I almost always go for the flavored mocha or latte and have yet to be disappointed. Baristas at this branch are very friendly and attentive to detail of your humble orders. The pastries there are the usual but good, especially croissants and muffins. Make sure they warm it up for that gooey chocolate goodness, especially during this cold winter. read more
