Ordered delivery from here for my first experience with them. I was drawn to them because it's hard to find a Chinese place that offers brown rice, and I was initially pleased that the food arrived early and that the order of crab rangoon was huge. Then I noticed there were no veggies in the sweet and sour chicken, which seems to be standard elsewhere, and I was disappointed to just have pieces of fried, battered chicken. I tried a bite, and something was off. Either the brown rice or the chicken or the saucy had a weird, almost spearmint-y flavor to it. So I tried a crab rangoon, which also tasted a little weird...it actually seemed to have too much flavor, like heavy onion or celery flavor which I've never experienced before. I tried to keep eating, but couldn't finish half a plate (and there was enough food for 2-3 plates). So disappointed, and now I feel sick...not like food poisoning sick...just too much greasy fried junk. Since this was my first experience, it could be that they were having an off night or I didn't order items that they make especially well...but I honestly won't be ordering again to find out if that's the case. read more

This place is my go to Chinese food place. It has large portion sizes, is delicious, and is very very cheap! The crab cheese is amazing. You get 10 crab cheese for only $5. The noodles are amazing! I'm all for good valued, take out Chinese that tastes decent but this place was terrible. We were on the go and decided to grab some roasted pork and some chicken fried rice. First, we noticed down the road that both orders were pork fried rice, no chicken. Second, there were inedible nasty pieces of pork and onion. Lastly, the flavor was lacking, very bland. The only reason this place is getting 2 stars instead of 1 is because the price was very cheap for the quantity of food. This does not look appealing for dining in and the staff could be more friendly. read more

My go to Chinese place, Three Harmony, is closed on Sunday's so I have ordered from here twice and both times were nothing short of bad. Although today I experienced bad food and bad service. My condo is only about 800 sq ft, so even on my off days, I have mastered getting from one end to the other in less than 10 seconds. Well Mr. Impatient Driver pressed my buzzer and as I was going to let him in, he was already calling my cell phone AND pressing my neighbors buzzer! The sweet & sour soup was good, the dumplings were fine, but the steamed shrimp with vegetables was so overcooked that I was gagging after the 1st bite. I knew that I wasn't going to be able to eat it, so I called and asked them to either refund my money or bring me a new dish. The woman on the phone was nice and said they would send out a new order within 20 minutes. This time, Mr. Impatient Driver didn't even bother with my buzzer and just called my cell phone. I told him to press the buzzer, so I could let him in and then he started yelling something that I could not understand into the phone. Once he finally figured out how to properly operate the door, he ran up the stairs and shoved the food at me and walked back out, without saying a word to me! The food was slightly improved, but not good and the ridiculous attitude of the driver has turned me off from ever ordering from here again. read more

I finally understand what an egg roll is supposed to be. This place has the best veggie ones: thin, lightly fried rice paper wrapping up a hearty bundle of fresh cabbage, mushroom, and carrot. Who would have guessed from this little shop? And for $1.30, no complaints. The rest is tasty and relatively cheap for the neighborhood and their hours are really great for busy folks. Service is sassy and sincere and gets the job done. You will wait a minute for your order because it is all being made freshly right in plain sight. To the many unhappy Grubhub patrons, I believe you problem lies with your middleman of choice. If I were the owner of a small, independent business, I wouldn't sign onto Grubhub, Groupon, or the like. The businesses always get hurt. read more

The flavor of the food isn't very good, and we couldn't get a smile or even more than one word at a time out of the people working there. They wouldn't make kung pao tofu. HAve lived in old town since the summer of 2012- Peking was usually my goto for quick and cheap chinese food. I have noticed over the last 6 mos- 1 year the quality of food is pretty poor. For example, the mongolian beef is good but the veggies are usually soggy and they put way way too much sauce on everything. The shrimp fried rice is nothing more than tasteless brown rice with 4 shrimp sitting on the top of it to make it look like there are more in the rice underneath. The egg rolls are by far the best part and I cant really say anything bad about them. Sadly this will be my last experience with peking. There are a few other joints in old town but havent tried them yet but will be doing so next time. One of my favorite fast food Chinese places.. I've been going & getting deliveries from them for almost 8yrs ... Food is delicious & price is very very reasonable. I live half a block from them... We r neighbors... They have combination platters w/tons of their main entrees included.. Lunch special is also fantastic & priced very reasonable!! Soups are all good!! I ordered food for delivery and this set the tone for my experience with this restaurant. I was given a call from the delivery driver sent by the restaurant who told me to come outside to get my food. Now, when I order food for delivery (which I paid for as well as tipped on top of during my ordering process) I assumed they bring the food to you and not send you out to "fetch" your food from the driver. The food was either ill-packed or was not given much care to during delivery since half the sauce in my Hunan chicken was on the bottom of the bag. The food was luke warm and the food pretty sub par. The chicken dish tasted overly sweet and bland. I requested my dish to be made extra spicy and it was anything but. I've had better Chinese food at food courts at any given mall. Fortunately, Chicago is a city full of great Chinese restaurants. I can cross this spot off my places to eat for good. read more

The food was all pretty flavorful and I'd go as far as saying it was some of the better cheaper Chinese takeout I've had in the city. Their Chow Fun and General Tso both stood out from our order. And let me tell you, this restaurant gives new meaning to the term "dirty spoon". It was filthy. But I was hungry so I ate there anyway. Ordered delivery from here for the first time this evening. Based on their yelp reviews, I was excited to try a new takeout restaurant. However, upon delivery I was extremely disappointed. If you want pad Thai, don't order from here. They use noodles that are 3x as wide as normal pad Thai and use a sauce similar to lo mein. I've lived in Chicago for 3+ years and have tried multiple Chinese restaurants for delivery, but never found a go to place. Until today. Peking has all three of my requirements for Chinese delivery: 1) A low order minimum - only $7. I usually order for just myself and hate having to order enough food for an army. 2) Size options. I like to order small sizes of a few dishes, so I get a variety and am not bored with the left overs. 3) Small orders of egg rolls. I'm never hungry for more than one and they're not as good when reheated. I ordered sweet and sour chicken, vegetable fried rice, and an eggroll and was pleased with all three. They were as good or better than the average Chinese restaurant and the prices were really reasonable. Bonus - the delivery was REALLY fast. I ordered at 4:30 on a Friday and it was here in just under 20 minutes. My only con is the chicken to rice ratio for the sweet and sour chicken order was off. I actually quite enjoyed the fried rice and sweet and sour dishes, but my online ordering experience has been spotty. I ordered from their website using my Discover card which the site explicitly accepted. I then got a call from them telling me they don't take Discover and asking for another card. I would not mention this or review so poorly, except last night a delivery I ordered on their website and that they confirmed to my email never arrived. When I called after an hour and a half, they said the food would be here soon. When I called a half hour later they denied getting my order at all. It was difficult to understand the employee both times. I'm going to look for nearby Chinese place that is on GrubHub. The ordering process is much smoother there, and when my orders have been occasionally canceled they called and let me know, I could understand them on the phone, and they gave me a discount on my next order. read more

I ordered Chow mein through Grubhub and received a call 3 minutes later, because they wanted to confirm if I really wanted the crispy chow mein noodles or the soft lo-mein (I wanted the latter). WORST. FRIED RICE. EVER. There's nothing in it except for rice, a few slivers of onion, and whatever meat you want, and it's pretty much flavorless. However, they do get two stars for having Chow Mei Fun on their menu, which I've had a really hard time finding in Chicago for some reason. Let me begin by saying that I have not eaten here in over a year but it is still as amazing as I remember. I don't understand the other reviews here about the service or the quality of food but from my experience both have been exceptional. I ordered through grubhub today at 4:23 and received my order in full at 4:50. If that's not speedy service then I don't know what is. My girlfriend and I ordered general tso's chicken, pan fried dumplings, combo egg foo young, sweet and sour chicken, and bbq rib tips. It was all phenomenal especially the general tso's and the egg foo young. If you love Americanized chinese food then this is the place for you. Sweet, salty, spicy goodness. Egg foo yong should be fried and served with thick brown gravy, sweet and sour should have tangy red sauce and chow fun (thick) noodles should be lightly charred from the wok. Check! Great service, even when they are super busy. It's Monday night (Memorial day) and there are 7 pickup/deliver orders being filled and I still got my food rather quickly. This place isn't all that great. BUT, it's not horrible. Typical order size, for orange chicken. It was a bit "tendon-y" and "Fatty" for me....maybe I just got a bad batch? Who knows. You get a free can of pop with your order, which is a nice touch. The people there aren't friendly....especially the 2 teenagers that work there. I'm guessing it's the owner's kids....and they are just NOT happy that they are there. Bottom line...I'd go here again. I've had better food, but like I said, it's edible. FYI, they don't take credit or debit card unless you order $12 worth of food....or agree to a surcharge. Both of which is in violation of their terms of agreement with MC/Visa. I used to live around the corner from this place on Belmont for a few years but always ordered from other Chinese restaurants. My wife and I decided to try it one day and ordered carry out. I don't recall exactly what we ordered but I do recall the food was average at best. It was hot and served it's purpose (which was to make our stomachs shut the hell up) but definitely was not even close to being one of the better Chinese places around East Lakeview. New Peking on Broadway is much better as is the Canton Express just a block North on Halsted. So, if you're in a hurry and don't feel like walking or waiting for deliver, Peking Chinese will get you through the night... but you probably won't want any leftovers the next day. read more

OK, so this guy tells me that the dumplings here are the size of toddler fists. (depending on the toddler, they could be huge or medium sized). They are now my go to place when I'm craving Chinese! This food was amazing and it always arrives hot! Crab rangoons were delicious, beef chow mein was good and beef was tender, wonton soup was good and meaty, and the pepper steak with onion was delicious too! Bbq spareribs were not my favorite and why this place gets 4 stars instead of 5. All in all, this place has great Chinese and shouldn't be overlooked! it seems to me, no matter where i am, the visual appearance of a food joint doesnt have anything to do with the food. i always enjoy my food from this place, as i live 1 block away, take out is very easy. Prices for the menu are competitive with every other Chinese place around the area - the lunch portions are great and the large orders are basically two meals...i do think the small portions are a bit overpriced but still keep my hunger satisfied. The wait is never long for take out, (never more than 15 min) overall a good place, good food. read more

Worst Chinese food I've ever had. It's hard to even call it Chinese food. Don't order the shrimp fried rice - it's boiled, flavorless shrimp with yellow rice. It's not even fried. The orange chicken was ok the first bite, then the second bite had a bone or something and tasted like curdled milk and spoiled chicken. It's rather disgusting. Seeing them prepare the food is another adventure in itself with items being pulled out of bins just sitting on counters. Just avoid this place altogether. read more
