Peking Delight is a nice affordable Americanized Chinese restaurant in the San Ramon/Dublin area. It's located in the Gateway Center Plaza right off the I-680 Alcosta Blvd. exit, at the very south of San Ramon and north of Dublin. Parking in the plaza is plentiful and this restaurant is never crowded. They also have their lunch special menu that is available everyday from 11am - 3pm. Most Chinese restaurant in the East Bay are normally over priced, but surprisingly this restaurant is not; whereas their portions are also quite big too! Their interior is pretty small, but they're never busy. As for the food, it's decent and definitely worth it for the low price & large portion of your meal. Although I do think their food may have MSG in it. You should ask before ordering. I would give them a solid 3.5-star review; but since I can't rate to the nearest half star, I'll need to round up to 4-stars. read more

Absolutely delicious, great service, and very affordable price! When you come here, ask for their "3 items" menu; with $26, you'll get three items of your choice plus a soup. Rice will have to be purchased separately. I got: - Szechuan Bean Curd with Minced Pork: delicious mapo tofu dish. Savory, slightly sweet with a little spicy kick to it. Great with rice. - Broccoli Beef: I loved the healthy serving of broccoli!!! The flavor was spot on delicious but the beef texture was a little more on a rubbery/chewy side than ideal. But it was still fine. - Westlake Beef Soup: delicious, especially if you add a bit of white pepper, soy sauce and hot sauce to it. It's just my way of eating it. My only hope was they put just a slightly less starch to the soup to make it less thick. But the flavor was good. - Rock Cod with Bean Curd Clay Pot: yum, braised cod cooked in a soy-based sweet and savory sauce with some mushrooms and bean curd. Very yummy. After living in the area for a year and a half, looks like we have finally found our go-to Cantonese place. I went with my husband and 2 young kids and ordered the 3 item plus soup for $35.95 and added a fried rice as well. First off, prices are decent, and portions are good. - Corn and chicken soup- hearty soup and portion and had good flavor. Kids especially liked it and had seconds! - Vegetable fried rice - had a good "wok hei" and a good amount of zucchini, broccoli, water chestnuts and celery. Unlike a lot of places that just use the frozen peas and carrots. - Green beans and chicken - good flavor and my 6 year old devoured the chicken. I appreciated that they used the more tasty, IMO,chicken thigh, and not just thin, flat pieces of chicken breast you find in alot of Asian restaurants. - Salt and pepper squid- Some of the pieces had a bit too much batter but decent overall. - Braised tofu- served with bok choy and black mushrooms as well. I will say, I was quite disappointed in the firm tofu used in this dish. I was expecting the braised tofu that has the thin deep fried skin. From the Yelp pics, it looks like they do have this type for the house tofu dish so maybe I can request that next time since it's my staple dish when ordering Cantonese... We used to eat (takeout) here a couple of times a month. My wife loves their wonton soup. I guess over time, we just stopped ordering, no reason. We just recently returned for a to-go order because my wife really wanted some wonton soup. We ordered fried rice, chow-mein, wonton soup, lemon chicken, and tomato beef. The food was excellent! I love good chow-mein and fried rice. The wonton soup was great. Lemon chicken I generally am not impressed with from most places because either they slathered it in the lemon sauce, or they over fried it, or the fryer oil isn't fresh. The lemon chicken was perfection! The batter was fried light and crispy (in color and texture), wasn't dripping in fryer oil, and they put the sauce on the side, letting me choose how much sauce I wanted on it. The tomato beef was a surprise. Maybe I ordered it wrong, but I was expecting tomato beef chow-mein, but there was no chow-mein - it was tomatoe/beef/peppers/sauce - that's it. Maybe I did it wrong. It was mostly tomatoes, not much beef. Still don't care, it was good. How good was it? Well, I don't normally stuff myself unless I'm at a buffet. I had one plate of food and knew I was full enough. Extremely bland food. Peking Delight is located in the Gateway Centre just off of Hwy 680S at Alcosta Boulevard. It's one of a few Chinese restaurants that I haven't checked out in the San Ramon area. On 12/09/2018, I took my family here for dinner to see if they were worthy to be added to my go-to list. The place was quite busy when we walked in at around 7 pm. It took some time before we were seated at a table near the entrance. The interior was cramped, with ten tables of different sizes packed tightly together. The walls were decorated with a few small framed pictures. The environment was clean and brightly lit. It took a few minutes before tea and menus were brought to us. We decided to order from their Chinese menu (3 items for $25.95) and got the following: - Scrambled Eggs with Shrimp (#1) - Pan Fried Flounder (#13) - Beef with Chinese Greens (#26, substituted with gai lan for an extra dollar) - Salt and Pepper Spareribs (#32) - Eggplant with Spicy Garlic Sauce (#36) - Beef Stew Clay Pot (#50) - Rice x3 Since we ordered six items, they gave us a large complimentary bowl of West Lake beef soup, which was made with minced beef, tofu, and egg white. It looked great but the taste was very bland. I had to seasoned it with lots of salt and white pepper just to give it a little life. The egg dish was hand down the best dish of the night. The shrimps were succulent and the scrambled eggs were soft and silky. The dish was seasoned perfectly. The pan fried flounder had a nice crispy exterior. The flesh was moist and the roe was a nice surpirse. But the sauce was very bland. We had to add soy sauce on top to add some taste to it. The gai lan beef was so-so. The gai lan had a nice crunch. The beef was tender but lacked taste. The salt and pepper spareribs were just as bland as the other dishes. There were hardly any aromatics in the dish. Very forgettable. In fact, probably one of the worst I have ever had. The eggplant dish was decent. The sauce was spicy and eggplant pieces were not too mushy. The beef stew clay pot was an epic fail. First, there were only a few pieces of beef and tendon in the dish. Although they were tender, they were so bland! The shiitake mushrooms and bean curd sheets were cooked separately and added to the dish at the last moment. They were as tasteless as the beef. So out of the seven items we had, five were bland. To me, that is not acceptable. Our server was nice but the service we received was hit-and-miss. People who arrived after we did got their food first. We asked for water on a couple occasions and it never came. With T/T, the meal was $69. I thought the food here was subpar and catered more to the non-Chinese palette. We only came here becasue it's close by and it turned out to be the wrong choice. Given this experience, it's very unlikely that I will return. Please do yourself a favor and never come here or order food from here!!! We ordered dinner from here out of desperation as there were no other Chinese restaurants on Uber eats available. I ordered the seafood combo noodles which was a complete disaster. First of all, the noodles came delivered already in the soup which I knew right off the bat was a bad sign. When I poured it out into the bowl, there were literally two shrimps and two halves of a bok choy (please see photos). The noodles were all clumped up. I have been coming to Peking Delight probably since it has opened and it's one of my favorite places to get HK style pan fried noodles and their garlic chicken! What's unique about their pan fried noodles is that the sauce is slightly thicker and they use no bean sprouts! As for their garlic chicken, it's a red spicy sauce boneless chicken dish that is to die for, especially if you get it while dining in! My parents like to get the 3 order combo which comes with 3 full size dishes and a full size soup. We typically get the corn & chicken soup which is an egg drop soup and it's sweet, salty, and the perfect comfort food on a cold night. If ordering here, just be sure to ask them to go over your order again because sometimes they forget or mishear dishes (i.e. we ordered 2 orders of noodles but only got one, wrong dish completely, etc). read more

We get here at 8pm(they close at 8:30pm) on a weekend and walk in to two people sitting on their hands with restaurant completely empty as usual and they say, "sorry you can't dine in as the kitchen needs to be cleaned for next 30 mins and we need to leave at 8:30 when we close". To start with, from a taste perspective I should probably give Peking Delight a 4, maybe 3 1/2. I'm giving my favorite little go to Chinese restaurant a 5 for a few reasons. First, its local, right off 680 and Alcosta San Ramon Rd, small (ish) but I never have a problem getting a seat. The first thing you notice is other than Asian diners (mostly Chinese) you may be one or two non Asian customers sitting down. Next is the amount of takeout this place does. I'd guess perhaps 30% or more of their orders go out the front door. Then the menu and prices. It's a pretty large menu and the prices are at the lower end of average. As for taste, the food doesn't jump off the plate onto your taste buds. Instead it's mildly seasoned without tons of salt and garlic. Yes, you can always request more seasoning but I'm never afraid to take or refer people with a low salt or garlic tolerance here. Next, I doubt that based on what I have eaten here that there is anything on this menu I wouldn't eat or at least try. I can't say that about too many restaurants. Not to mention they don't skimp on the portions. There's plenty there for everyone on the plates. My favorites, easily the Wor Won Ton soup for starters. There's plenty of house made won tons, fresh veggies and a great selection of meats including beef, pork, chicken, squid and shrimp. And the broth is again not over seasoned. No one does Wor Won Ton like Peking Delight. The house special fried rice, again loaded with loads of meats and shrimp. Those are starters. As I said before, there's Nothing on this menu I wouldn't enjoy. With all the Chinese, Asian and even 'fusion' eateries in the Tri Valley, this is one you won't leave dissatisfied. Not fancy, no razzle dazzle, nothing that knocks you off your seat. But plenty at Peking Delight to make you a regular customer. read more

I went here because I was craving fried rice. I ordered an order of BBQpork fried rice and it was good. I asked for chili oil and that was lacking some kick but the rice was good. The only thing I didn't like was the customer service from the lady that took my order, it seemed like I bothered her by ordering. But the lady that gave me my order was pretty nice. Although their food is good (it's not superior, but it's not bad) - their service is H O R R I B L E. The tone of their voices, the choice of words they use, their facial expressions is so rude and disrespectful. We normally order take out, but the 2 times we have eaten here was one of the worst dining experiences I had. Luckily my young kids were with us, or I definitely would have matched their energy back to them. I no longer choose to eat here and I always strongly advise against eating here when I'm with a group and another person chooses this place. This is a CUSTOMER BASED BUSINESS, maybe they should learn to treat their customers with respect. I like this place. I live right behind the Restaurant, so that is a convenient plus for me, and I dine here often, or order out. Every meal I have had has been great. I have to be careful, as I have a gluten allergy, but so many of their items fit that circumstance. The owners are so very nice. I left my jacket there once, and they held it for me, for two weeks, until I returned! Very honest sweet people. My favorite is their potstickers, perfect everytime!! and Shrimp fried rice. I did not expect such good food for great prices here in San Ramon! I came here with my friends and split their $24.95 deal--basically you get 3 dishes and a soup on the menu that lists the deal. Altogether you get 4 dishes for under $30 after tax! We had 2 dishes worth of leftovers after feeding 3 people. Atmosphere: 4/5, but usually pretty looking Chinese restaurants make me worry about the authenticity of the food...sometimes the worse the restaurant looks the better tasting and cheaper it is! But this restaurant is clean, average looking. Service: 3/5, average mom and pop Chinese restaurant service. They don't check in with you but they do provide decent service when asked. Food: 5/5, awesome! We ordered fried fish, rock cod clay pot, and this other tofu dish, AND it came with hot and sour soup, which was BOMB! I would have been happy ending my meal with just the soup itself. My family usually orders Chinese food here, and it it is their go-to. Now it's mine, too! This review is for delivery only... I was excited to find out some Chinese restaurants delivered to hotels in the area. Ordered delivery on Oscar night, and was very disappointed. Chicken 3 ways was greasy and tasteless. The BBQ pork fried rice had no flavor at - basically streamed rice with teeny-tiny bits of pork. And the egg foo young was basically a giant scrambled egg pancake. Ended up throwing it all out and ordering room service. Unless you are starving - don't bother. I'm shocked I haven't written a review for this place yet since I've eaten here so many times with my family. I feel like you don't really appreciate Peking Delight until you've had substantially worse Chinese food. I generally order from that 3 for $25.95. It's usually enough food for 4 people depending on appetite. The most recent time I went with my mom and we ordered Salt and Pepper Prawns, Broccoli Beef, Salt and Pepper Squid, and Shrimp Fried Rice. It comes with your choice between 3 soups, but we normally go with Hot and Sour. I really like their Hot and Sour soup. It has bits of pork, mushrooms, bamboo, and other random things in it. The acidity is just right and it always hits the spot to start a meal. That bowl of soup has several servings if you want seconds. Their fried rice came out and it was pretty good, could use more shrimps, but the shrimp they do use is a good size and juicy. It wasn't rubbery or anything. This dish is $9.95 if I'm not mistaken. The main dishes came out piping hot. The Salt and Pepper Squid was super hot and crispy. The batter is comically large/airy. There's a good piece of squid inside, but it's almost like an appetizer/finger food. We dipped it in sweet and sour sauce and it was enjoyable. The Broccoli Beef was well seasoned, not too salty. The broccoli had a nice bite to it and wasn't mushy. Finally came the Salt and Pepper Prawns - be careful when biting in because the hot juicy oil might mess up the insides of your mouth. I liked how crispy they were. We finished the fried rice and the broccoli beef, but took the rest of the food home. It easily could've fed 2 more people because sometimes I felt like I was forcing myself to eat some of the food. Not that I didn't like it, it's just I didn't think it was worth it to take home like 1 extra bite of something. SO I ATE IT! Come here with your friends and family and enjoy a tasty Chinese meal. The staff is friendly and service is pretty quick. The place is usually busy too and can get kind of crowded/cramped. The store isn't particularly large. We have been going there since 2013. Food is consistent. We only had one incident about the tip with one of the waitresses. My husband accidentally, calculated the tip wrong and gave her less than normal. After he had his stroke, his mind is still sharp, most of the time. On our way out, she was scolding us, saying how hard she works, plus, the tip is divided with the other waitress. I gave her an additional $5 and walked out. Every time we go there now, she's very accommodating to my husband, especially, because he uses a walker. read more

Portion was generous and just the right amount of saltiness and heat! If you've never had anything salt and pepper before, try this one! - beef and Chinese vegetables. Basically it's bok Choy and again very generous portion. Meat was tender and bok Choy was crispy! - salted fish chicken fried rice. I love this dish but wish they'd kept lettuce out of it. This one is an acquired taste kind of dish, so you'll have to try it to determine which side you're on!
