When I saw on Yelp that Pekoe opened a second location, this was my reaction: O_O. I don't think I could have dragged the hubby there any faster. Luckily, the business was still in its soft opening phase so the parlor wasn't packed with thirsty patrons. Located in the plaza right across from 7 Leaves, Pekoe clearly isn't afraid of a little competition. The menu is identical to its parent establishment and the prices are the same. However, this Pekoe isn't as roomy and hang-out-friendly as the other spot, lacking the lounge seating and roomy bar. So far, we have tried the Thai Me Up with less sugar and ice, the White Winter with less sugar and less ice, and the TMT with less ice. Our drinks were always served quickly and we were surprised to see crushed ice instead of cubed. The Thai tea certainly had a strong aroma of spices and the grass jelly was delightfully sweet. The tea itself was a tad bland, but it did taste refreshing. As for the wintermelon milk tea, I was a bit disappointed that the wintermelon taste wasn't very strong, but the tea itself was creamy. I also enjoyed the crisp texture of the aloe vera and crystal boba. The TMT, however, was perfect with the right amount of taro flavor and creamy undertones. Overall, this new Pekoe is a decent replica of the original. It's nice to know that the hubby and I won't have to go far for our Pekoe fix and while it isn't necessarily perfect, I know we will back again soon. read more

As a disclaimer, I haven't been to Pekoe in yeaars, particularly because their "tea" is nothing like tea - it's pretty much syrup water (or milk), with flavoring. This location recently opened in my neighborhood so I happened to stop by during their soft opening. At first glance, this location is noticeably smaller than the first. There's no seating, just tables. So this is more of a grab and go; it felt very cramped inside. Though there wasn't much of a wait to order and get my drink, the biggest thing I noticed is how much the cost of a drink are now!! $5.50 for syrup water????? at least that includes the toppings, but still. That's pretty outrageous for a less than mediocre drink. I don't think I'd be back, despite the fact that I have a free drink for my next visit lmao. Yummy! I just placed an order from here and I'm pleasantly surprised by how good their tea is. Today, I ordered the Brass Monkey (banana milk tea). It's not an overwhelming banana flavor. It's very light, but not so light that you can't taste it. The black pearls here are a little bit on the harder side, but they have a delicious honey flavor. I cannot wait to try other teas from this place. This is definitely one of my favorite tea shops in the South Bay. If you want any substitutions or adjustments to your order, you need to mention it during the order. This includes topping subs or sugar/ice levels. All my adjustments/substitutions were done correctly today. One of my favorite boba places is finally near me! The place is small but absolutely stunning in its design. Instead of the white couches in the ESSJ location, this place has standing tables and metal benches. It's a great use of a small space! I'm in love with their lights, marble floors and huge marble counter! They're still in soft opening and will be having their grand opening next month. Service is really nice and the drinks are of the same quality as the old location. I got the Thai Tea Whities which is a mix of green Thai tea and matcha and it paired well with the crema and milk pudding (my favorite topping). This place is surprisingly able to hold its own against the many boba shops in the area (including seven leaves across the street). My favorite is the #1 pekoe special. The tea is black earl grey (which used to be my go-to tea) with a mix of lavender and orange bergamot and it comes with grass jelly and boba. I initially didn't think that mix would go well but it surprisingly is very good. It has a great balance of flavor. The lavender and orange bergamot compliment the earl grey really well. It's not overly sweet nor is it too complex in flavor - I can still taste the tea in it. I'd rank this drink somewhere in my top 3. Happy lemon A2 still takes my number one spot lol read more

New location just opened up! It's really close to my house, as well as the 7Leaves across the street - some healthy competition needed. This new location reminds of the OG Pekoe, since the one on White Rd. has definitely gone down quality-wise. It looks like they have all the original drinks on the menu with the addition of some new ones! Sticking to my original favorite, I ordered the Gold Mine, which was still delicious as always. Pekoe tends to be on the sweeter side, so definitely recommend getting 25-50% sugar level if you're not much of a sweet tooth. Also, I think they were out of the honey boba during their soft opening, BUT they were giving out +1 free drink cards with a purchase. Only complaint is that this location is a little smaller and felt really stuffy inside. Not sure if their A/C wasn't working that day, but it was just really hot and stuffy. Anyways, definitely check the new location out if you're like me, who was sad that the original Pekoe wasn't as good anymore. Hip and cool place! It doesn't look like much from the outside but love, love the inside of the store. They have pretty creative menu as well, and most of them already comes with the topping pairings which makes my life much easier. It's pretty pricy I'd say; my mix drink was almost $6.4 after tax, but hey what d'ya expect from Bay area, right? Taste wise, I'm pretty satisfied. I don't generally like chewy black pearls and they happen to have really soft ones. Also, their pearls are not too sweet compared to other places. So many tea places so little time and stomach room!! Husband was craving something sweet with dinner last night so decided to try Pekoe along with our pizza for dinner. This was our first time so we were unsure as to what to get BUT they give you free samples to help you decide!! We tried maybe 4 different teas and ended up getting the Raspberry Beret (sweet but tart) and the Mario and Lui-ycee (generous pieces of lychee!!). I usually tend to stick to the fruit flavored tea's versus milk teas and these were both pretty tasty. Their default sugar level is 50% compared to most places so we opted for 50% sugar (which is really 25% sugar) and it was the perfect amount of sweetness. Employee at the front was friendly and suggested items and very helpful. Will have to come back to try some of their other teas and maybe upgrade another star. read more

All my friends asked for less ice actually and we all got it filled halfway. The "Mario and Lui-you're" taste literally like water and lychee. The lychee does not taste like anything; just bland. The "Jolly Rancher" at first dry and bitter, then sour after. "Manly Melons" came out warm and there was no ice inside... not sure if the employees were rushing or what. When I saw that a new Pekoe location opened up in San Jose, I was immediately intrigued because of the success of the first location. It is quite an interesting prospect because of all of the drama surrounding the first location as well. First thoughts: the location is in a small plaza with a lot of foot traffic and is quite cramped in terms of size and parking space (sometimes; when it is not busy, it is fine in terms of parking). It's also not in the nicest plaza (which by the way, did not influence my rating at all). The store is small, yet intimate. The first thing that did catch my eye is the lack of seats; the layout is more like a bar setting where you stand up around the tables. The menu is the same as the old location, and the drinks are very similar in taste. The staff is quite knowledgeable about the drinks, and they come out quite quickly (usually because it is not as busy). The drinks though are quite pricey ($5.50 for a signature drink, $6.50 for their special drinks, not including toppings). Overall, I like it! Will have to come more often. read more

Decided to visit Pekoe upon seeing the 4.5 stars review on Yelp and boy was that a horrible mistake I can get behind the design and concept of a boba 'bar', it's pretty cool, but obviously one goes to a boba place to get boba. On that count, Pekoe failed badly. We had the Pekoe Special, Thai Me Up and Foxy Brown and they just tasted horrible. They are just horrible drinks hiding behind the exotic names and 'exotic' ingredients. The drinks were overly sweet, had zero taste and the boba was mushy (instead of chewy). Whoever who crafted the drinks obviously had no idea how to make tea. It was the first time in my life i had to junk a cup of boba - it's just that bad. One of the best things about Pekoe is that their milk teas are made with their house cream which is non-dairy. My favorite boba place in the Bay has finally opened up a second location!! The interior is absolutely beautiful and there is an endless amount of signature drinks to choose from. The Mario & Luiychee has been my current favorite since its super simple, light, and refreshing with fresh lychee bits! If I'm feeling milk tea, the Yung-Mungy is my second go to since it's very creamy and not as sweet as other mungbean drinks I've tried. It's also a smooth consistency which I'm a huge fan of! 4.5 stars Came here with friends, I ordered the Kawaii and loved it. I usually am a Mango Green Tea gal so this was a little different. You can really taste the papaya and the mango stars were super fresh. Order came out pretty quick too. Wish they had 25% sweetness level, the 50% was a little too much for me. I've had Pekoe before and it wasn't a great experience at the other location, (down around evergreen). About the store: Coming in, it smelled like a dirty bathroom. I don't know if it's because they have the bathroom door open and hot? Anyways, this location is small, and has limited and uncomfortable seating only on the sides. Today, they didn't have AC on, assuming, since it was hot in the store and I was sweating...unpleasant if you're trying to relax. I really hope they come up with a better solution for comfy seating and tables! The tea: we tried #7, Gold Mine. The flavor is fragrant and a little sweeter than other boba shops. This is Pekoe, so they always make their drinks extra sweet! Customer service is actually nice and welcoming unlike the other Pekoe shop. Here they actually listen and give suggestions if needed. Coolest boba shop ever. High quality and tasty tea! My favorite thing about pekoe is they offer split drinks so you can get two drinks at once. It's one cup divided into half and separated. You can pick two drinks for the cost of one. This is a great choice for people like me who are indecisive and have a hard time choosing between things that all sound good. I really like the "pretty in pink" it's a delicate and sweet. Also, drinks are make immediately and the wait for your order is so quick. We ordered 3.5 drinks and waited less than 80 seconds before they were ready. I was very pleased with the menu, service and interior. It's cute but small. Out of all the boba places I've tried , Pekoe makes the best boba!! I'd recommend Pretty in Pink for a summer drink

Not sure what their hours are yet but we stopped by around 10:15PM on a Monday night and they were still open! INSIDE: This Pekoe has completely different furniture from the original location but it still has that club-y vibe. The space is furnished with tall bar tables, gaudy chandeliers, and mirrors all over the walls. There are no couches and only 2 long benches against the wall so there isn't much seating at all. Prepare to stand if you want to hang around. Also, this place was surprisingly lit. Literally... I feel like they should've dimmed the lights more to make the space feel more cool & hip lol. DRINKS: -I tried a sample of the Mario and Lui-ychee and it tasted just like those lychee jelly cups I had as a kid! This place gets extra points for letting you sample their drinks. -Foxy Brown is still my favorite though. Drink quality and taste is the same as the original location. A+++ -This place also has split cups (not on menu) so you can get 2 drinks in one! Btw, they have an iPad you can use to self-order! This shop definitely has the best menu of drinks to offer than any other boba shop I have been to. The Pretty in Pink is probably one of the tastiest I've ever had. The only thing I would comment about this place is the location, the complex feels slightly unsafe to me due to the nature of the nearby stores. Not a fan. I tried their Pekoe special, 50% sweet and it was super sweet and tasted thick, like they added condensed milk to it or something. I couldn't even finish 1/4 of it and had to throw it away. They don't have sweetness levels other than 100, 50 or 0. If I had to try this place again, I'd def try 0. read more

This boba spot will always be my favorite boba in San Jose. I love the vibe, the service and of course the DRINKS! My favorite is the pretty in pink with 50% sweet. Their boba is infused with just the right amount of brown sugar, the drink has an amazing fruity and creamy taste and IT IS DAIRY FREE. I can't find another place that uses milk alternatives and is still creamy and delicious. Each drink is hand-crafted so the flavors are unique and you really can't find it anywhere else. I tried the Pekoe special and the Gold Mine and they were both pretty good. The Pekoe is like a more elevated black milk tea and the floral tones definitely complimented the creaminess of it. The Gold Mine had brown sugar agar that I was surprised by because I thought by "pearls" they meant tapioca not agar. I'm not a big agar person but this wasn't as tough as any other agar I've had before, it left me craving it a couple days later. Both milk teas didn't feel overly heavy like most milk teas do. There were no other customers and the service was fast and the cashier was kind & warm. The store was pretty clean and I don't have anything to really complain about. Well rounded menu and carefully curated drinks. 10/10 read more

Can't really hang out inside too long since there's limited seating and not really a place to just chill (they have high bar seats). I used to frequent the Pekoe in East San Jose every weekend, but ever since 7 leaves and Tastea opened, I just haven't been able to justify the drive. In terms of decor, this Pekoe brings the same nightclub vibes as the original. There isn't really a good seating set-up, so it's not a nice place to hang out and nurse your boba for an hour. It definitely gives bar vibes. Drinks are pretty good! I always appreciated Pekoe's more trendy twist on their drinks. If you get bored of 7 leaves' "purist" flavors, I definitely recommend Pekoe's wackier selections. My current faves are "Baked Apple Pie" and the coconut smoothie, and "Pretty in Pink" and "Foxy Brown" are classics. Some others are hit or miss though, but they do give samples on request! Wait times can be busy, especially Thursday through Saturday night. They currently don't have the points system set up yet, and have to do it manually. I hope they sort it out soon because I've probably accumulated a good amount of points by now. read more
