We made our first visit to Pelato on Father's Day. We were able to get a reservation about a week in advance. Our server recommended 2-3 dishes per person and we went with 9 for 4 people. The dishes come out as they are prepared and they are all designed to be shared. We tried a variety-most that we loved and would order again. Our favorites: short rib pasta special, Rav, crispy garlic potatoes, cheese calzone and our absolute fave: the Pelato salad. We also had calamari, burnt broccoli, stuffed mushrooms, artichoke arancini and baked clams. We would not order the stuffed mushrooms again-they weren't really stuffed. They just had some bread crumbs on top. They were cooked in a lot of butter, and the flavor was good, but they can't be considered stuffed. The drinks were pricy-If you like wine or cocktails, be prepared for a high price (though I think most are consistent with downtown). The sangria was delicious. The restaurant is well done and I especially like that they have 4 individual bathrooms!! The outside area is really nice as welll. I will definitely return soon!

Wow.. not sure Italian could get much better than this. We had an aperol spritz, red wine, chicken parm, vodka pasta, and cacio e Pepe for mains. Absolutely zero notes. Everything was fresh and perfect Italian cuisine. For dessert we had the dough balls and cannoli dip. Both good, but a little underwhelming. Regardless, if you're in the area and want good, authentic Italian, this place is a must

Came here for a classy birthday celebration, and was very pleased with the restaurant. Still fairly new Italian eatery with tapas-style and shareable items. We did get the apps and some pasta with meat entrées. They recommend getting both but if you're getting apps and desserts, it might be a bunch unless you're hungry. Generally, a good idea to get a reservation on their website via app. Parking is also a major convenience at this restaurant- very simple. Items do come out when they are prepared so they will be fresh, but if you get a bunch of items, just be mindful that some things may get checked off as delivered and you're still waiting for them. They also have a fancy cocktail menu, which would impress. Cheers!

Second time here with in a week. This place is soooo good! The dishes are authentic and full of flavor. The service is top notch. Lively atmosphere that's not too fancy. Drinks were good and came out quickly as well.

I was really impressed with all the food at my recent visit to Pelato. It was fun ordering share plates with my group and getting to try a variety of dishes. Our server recommended 2-3 dishes per person, but not everyone at our table was super hungry, so we did 2 dishes/person and that worked well, because we still had room for dessert! We were told that many items were made in house. Favorites included the radiatori pasta, meatballs, arancini, and broccolini. The only thing I wouldn't get again were the stuffed mushrooms, and they were fine, just not memorable. Overall, I can't wait to visit again and brunch is on my radar for my next visit!

This restaurant is new and it did not disappoint. The vibe is similar to tapas and the waiter made she he provided us with enough information on what to order. 2 items each was perfect and with friends, we could all share. For the table we shared the cauliflower, burrata (made on site), broccolini and potato coquettes. We all order different meals and I forgot to take photos but their gluten free pasta is shells. Like wait-no one ever has shells so of course I had to try a pasta dish. The Campanella Limone was very good. You need to like lemon but definitely a must try! Get out and reserve a table to try all their dishes yourself. You won't be disappointed!! #charlestonfoodandwine #charlestonfoodie #pelatocharleston

We enjoyed out experience at Pelato. After working in NYC for many years, this is about as close to authentic Italian as it gets. They describe themselves as "Brooklyn Italian reimagined," and it lives up to that. This is not your typical Italian spot. It is tapas style with small plates designed for sharing. My top two dishes were the Street Style Arancini and the Radiatori Vodka. Both were outstanding, though everything we tried was delicious! My only downside was the pacing. The plates came out very quickly, which made the experience feel a bit rushed, especially since I am a slower eater. There is also a posted two hour dining limit, which I did not love. While I appreciated the manager stopping by to check on us, I was told the owner was present and it would have been a nice touch if she had come around as well. Overall, I will definitely be back. Next time I will ask for a slower pace so I can better enjoy the meal. A beautiful restaurant with great staff!

This place is very busy for good reasons. Their table service is phenomenal. U can see the floor manager floating, clearing empty places with the wait staff on the floor. No dirty dishes or emptied glasses on the table for the wait staff gets rid of it for u quickly. The restaurant is Loud! Every seats taken. We were lucky to get a 615pm reservation and sat in the patio, of which was still nice. The food. Oh the food is so good. We enjoyed every single dish there. I normally love dishes with proteins but the radiatori vodka pasta that dish a excellent, along with the bake zitti, zucchini. Tapas for sharing, get everything!!! Great cocktail menu.

Pelato does not disappoint! Their espresso martinis are delicious - you've got to try! The chicken parm was incredible as were the zucchini fries, calamari, and ravioli. Wasn't the biggest fan of the cannoli pancakes - were a lil dry for my taste. Would still return!

Cute interior and good service. Parking just around the corner in a big lot and/or street parking. We only stayed for about an hour or so but I think they want you out within 2 hours. RSVP was easy to get. Food was ... just okay. Arancini to me was a bit bland--needed a bit more seasoning. Might've been the cheese on top that overpowered it--unsure. The vodka pasta was a bit TOO tomato-y if that makes sense. The pasta itself was very nice and fresh--helped the sauce cling. Great texture. Broccolini was broccolini. Bombolotti was the best thing because the flavor of the sausage was quite nice. Thought it was a great date night but bang for buck didn't hold up for me. I'm not a huge eater (as in, I don't eat a lot unless it's 3am and I want shredded cheese) but the plates are just too small for the price point, as it's tapas style. These 4 dishes went around $86 including tip. We only ordered waters. I think at other spots we could've ran $60ish for two with the same amount of food OR the same price with even more food (apps/drinks/etc.).

Radiatori Vodka -- order this and maybe 2 more Bucatini Cacio e Pepe

10/10 experience, every single plate was delicious... so delicious in fact that we forgot to take picture of it all and before we dug in! The dishes are meant to be shared and order one of everything because it all tastes exceptional. If I had to pick a least favorite I would say the ravioli could have used a bit more seasoning but overall delicious and very shareable with 4 ppl. Ask the servers for recommendations on food and cocktails they won't stir you wrong. The seating is a bit tight and on the smaller side but I would call it cozy and perfect for date night.

ordered the baked ziti, the pelato rav, and the garlic bread absolutel BANGERS. bill was 117$ for 5 things and 2 drinks

initial thoughts, wayyy too pricey for that small of a plate. However, after the meal, i could not be more thankful for the food that blessed my mouth. eat here

I love Pelato and crave it often. Im surprised I dont have more pictures. I think I have tried pretty much everything on the menu. The cauliflower piccata, vodka pasta, and drenched calamari are some of my favorites. Everything is so good, and its so fun to go with a group of people and try everything. Ive always had great service and they have some of the best blue cheese stuffed olives for dirty martinis. There are a ton of Italian restaurants in the Charleston area, but this one is at the top for me.

I am not someone who waits in line for a reservation. I always joke that if Jesus Christ is at the end of the line, I'm still not waiting. So... we paid someone to stand in line for us. The place itself is adorable. Small, intimate, and full of charm. I was a little thrown off that the only drink options are beer, wine, or water. Two people in our party don't drink, so that felt like a miss. But then the food came. And I get it now. It was, without question, some of the best food I've had in a long time. We ordered a lot, and every single dish delivered. The caviar sliders were unbelievably good, buttery, salty, and indulgent in the best way. The tuna toast, fennel and celery salad, and ceviche were all standout, with the ceviche being especially memorable. The soft shell crab and tempura flounder were perfectly done. Even the gundi surprised me. And to finish, the "not fried" ice cream and banana pudding were just outstanding. Service was excellent, warm and attentive without being over the top. The whole experience felt special. Bottom line: I hate waiting in line, and I still wouldn't. But I am very glad we found a way around it. Totally worth it.

Got in to our table at 8:25pm. The food: Everything was delicious. We ordered 5 dishes between the 2 of us and ended up taking a little bit of the last dish home but only so we had room for dessert. Service was amazing, everyone was helpful and kind! Verdict: Would I wait in line, sweating in the 85 degree sunny weather again? Probably not. Would I wait in line again if it was a cool 70? Maybe. Honestly, didn't really fill the hype meter for me when there are SOOO many fantastic seafood restaurants in Charleston but glad I finally went! *not pictured: cacio e pepe fried cauliflower (are it before the phone could snap it)

Nice list of 3 mocktails so even if not consuming alcohol one can look to play the part at the table and enjoy the flavor notes of a well made cocktail. The first meal we had was a bit of a work/get together meal. We ordered an assortment of items off of the menu and created a more tapas menu. The charcuterie board we picked the cheeses for and it was lovely. All as expected and quite surprised to find a cheddar I enjoyed. Came with some grapes, figs, nuts, honey and I think mustard. Glazed carrots were phenomenal. Heartily enjoyed the beet salad and thought the presentation was quite pretty. Lamb lettuce wraps are alright. Not my favorite of all the dishes served but delivered as promised, nicely cooked and presented. Spouse really liked the lamb wraps and were a stand out dish to them. Meatballs are excellent truly great texture and flavor. Escargot was a fun take on a classic dish. Finished with a unique strudel in its presentation it was quite pleasant. Spouse liked the peanut butter chocolate dessert. For brunch, I had the carrot ginger soup. Which I must say was a total delight. The soup had the hallmark texture and base flavor of the carrot ginger but it had a beautiful breath of savory and some heat seasoning wise to it. It was quite an elevated soup and heartily enjoyed! I followed the carrot soup with a French toast. I am all for softly scrambled eggs but the French toast was a touch undercooked. (I did not let the restaurant know or give them the chance to make right. I regularly eat soft boiled eggs and soft scrambled so I felt comfortable with consuming them.) Strawberries were ripe and tasty. The whipped cream was gorgeous in thickness and flavor. One in law had the caesar salad with croutons and grilled chicken. Their bowl was left clean so while they are not the talkative of sorts they did seem to enjoy it. Ordered a baguette with butter. In looking for a restaurant for dinner on Sunday night I happened across Sorghum & Salt. The menu looked great so we made a reservation to eat a the Chef's Counter. This turned out to be a great decision all the way around. We were seated right in the middle of the Chef's Counter. The gentleman who waited on us was great. He explained the menu well and provided good direction on wine. All of the other employees we interacted with were friendly and helpful too. On the to important part, the food. The three of us shared plates throughout the meal. i want to hit the highlights. We started with the Seared Blue Fin Tuna, the Radishes, and the Cauliflower. We picked the tuna dish after watching one being made almost in front of us for another table. It was as good as it looked. It was different than any tuna dish I have had thanks to the cashew tahini the dish sat on. The flavors together were great. The Cauliflower was cooked, then maybe fried, and tasted great with the green curry and peanut sauce. We enjoyed this dish. Out of the three I think that, surprisingly, the Radishes were my favorite. The dish includes almond, charcoal, and green olive. There also was fresh dill that was great. The flavors were fantastic and took away some of the usual sharpness you have with radishes. If you go, try this dish. The mains we shared were the Market Fish and the Carrot Bolognese. The Market Fish was great. The sunchoke veloute, mushrooms, and salsa verde added great flavor. But I want to spend more time on the Carrot Bolognese, which was my other favorite dish. It included rigatoni, labneh, and ricotta salata. I am not a good enough cook to deduce how exactly the carrots were cooked and prepared, but it was a carrot based sauce over the rigatoni and it was simply fantastic. Even my carnivore wife and son thought it was amazing. If you find yourself in Charleston and want to treat yourself right, you need to make your way to Sorghum & Salt.

The chips were a bit more salty than I'd like, but the dip neutralized that well. The chicken parm and eggplant parm sandwiches were really good. Good portions, yet it didn't feel heavy (my thighs are thankful lol). We pretty much got full after eating half and was able to take the rest home to enjoy it over another meal. The Pinot freezio and frozen sangria were served in cute little glasses. Very tasty and I loved that there was pulp in my Pinot freezio. Great first visit!

There were 4 open spots at the bar, so when we *finally* found the host, we asked if they were first come, first served. He told us there were two people coming and that he'd let us know. After waiting probably 10 min, he finally agreed to seat us at the bar (the 2 other people never showed up). So, there we sat...and sat. Bartender finally comes by and plops a bottle of water in front of us. Doesn't say hi / bye / or eff you (although she definitely gave off the latter vibe with her body language). After sitting there another 10 min and not being acknowledged whatsoever, I got fed up. Stood up, told my girlfriend I had had enough...and I flat out refused to give my money to an establishment that treats their customers in this manner. Honestly, I grew up in the Lowcountry and I can tell you that *most* restaurants/bars/shops/etc. in Charleston feature employees who are generally gracious/friendly/hospitable/helpful. Then, on occasion, you run into places like this. How they stay in business has to be a function of location alone, because their service is absolutely horrible! Will advise anyone who will listen to avoid this place at all costs!
