I pick an Italian restaurant to try each year for my birthday, and this year it was Pelato. My husband and I got an assortment of small plates to share. Everything was delicious, but the radiatori vodka pasta was my favorite part. I love that so many components on the menu are house made and I appreciated that there were mocktails on the menu. We made reservations, which I recommend doing for dinner time. We sat inside since it's July, but the large outdoor patio looked nice and I look forward to eating out there in the fall or spring.

Came here for a classy birthday celebration, and was very pleased with the restaurant. Still fairly new Italian eatery with tapas-style and shareable items. We did get the apps and some pasta with meat entrées. They recommend getting both but if you're getting apps and desserts, it might be a bunch unless you're hungry. Generally, a good idea to get a reservation on their website via app. Parking is also a major convenience at this restaurant- very simple. Items do come out when they are prepared so they will be fresh, but if you get a bunch of items, just be mindful that some things may get checked off as delivered and you're still waiting for them. They also have a fancy cocktail menu, which would impress. Cheers!

Was my first time coming and walking in felt like walking in on family dinner. Sunday was busy but staff weren't overwhelmed and were super friendly. Large windows and lots of lighting make it a cheery feeling place, especially next to the brewery. Favorite dish was definitely the Radiatori Vodka pasta but the garlic bread with melted Parmesan was a close second. The Frozen Espresso martini was also the favorite drink.

I was really impressed with all the food at my recent visit to Pelato. It was fun ordering share plates with my group and getting to try a variety of dishes. Our server recommended 2-3 dishes per person, but not everyone at our table was super hungry, so we did 2 dishes/person and that worked well, because we still had room for dessert! We were told that many items were made in house. Favorites included the radiatori pasta, meatballs, arancini, and broccolini. The only thing I wouldn't get again were the stuffed mushrooms, and they were fine, just not memorable. Overall, I can't wait to visit again and brunch is on my radar for my next visit!

This restaurant is new and it did not disappoint. The vibe is similar to tapas and the waiter made she he provided us with enough information on what to order. 2 items each was perfect and with friends, we could all share. For the table we shared the cauliflower, burrata (made on site), broccolini and potato coquettes. We all order different meals and I forgot to take photos but their gluten free pasta is shells. Like wait-no one ever has shells so of course I had to try a pasta dish. The Campanella Limone was very good. You need to like lemon but definitely a must try! Get out and reserve a table to try all their dishes yourself. You won't be disappointed!! #charlestonfoodandwine #charlestonfoodie #pelatocharleston

We enjoyed out experience at Pelato. After working in NYC for many years, this is about as close to authentic Italian as it gets. They describe themselves as "Brooklyn Italian reimagined," and it lives up to that. This is not your typical Italian spot. It is tapas style with small plates designed for sharing. My top two dishes were the Street Style Arancini and the Radiatori Vodka. Both were outstanding, though everything we tried was delicious! My only downside was the pacing. The plates came out very quickly, which made the experience feel a bit rushed, especially since I am a slower eater. There is also a posted two hour dining limit, which I did not love. While I appreciated the manager stopping by to check on us, I was told the owner was present and it would have been a nice touch if she had come around as well. Overall, I will definitely be back. Next time I will ask for a slower pace so I can better enjoy the meal. A beautiful restaurant with great staff!

This place is very busy for good reasons. Their table service is phenomenal. U can see the floor manager floating, clearing empty places with the wait staff on the floor. No dirty dishes or emptied glasses on the table for the wait staff gets rid of it for u quickly. The restaurant is Loud! Every seats taken. We were lucky to get a 615pm reservation and sat in the patio, of which was still nice. The food. Oh the food is so good. We enjoyed every single dish there. I normally love dishes with proteins but the radiatori vodka pasta that dish a excellent, along with the bake zitti, zucchini. Tapas for sharing, get everything!!! Great cocktail menu.

Cute interior and good service. Parking just around the corner in a big lot and/or street parking. We only stayed for about an hour or so but I think they want you out within 2 hours. RSVP was easy to get. Food was ... just okay. Arancini to me was a bit bland--needed a bit more seasoning. Might've been the cheese on top that overpowered it--unsure. The vodka pasta was a bit TOO tomato-y if that makes sense. The pasta itself was very nice and fresh--helped the sauce cling. Great texture. Broccolini was broccolini. Bombolotti was the best thing because the flavor of the sausage was quite nice. Thought it was a great date night but bang for buck didn't hold up for me. I'm not a huge eater (as in, I don't eat a lot unless it's 3am and I want shredded cheese) but the plates are just too small for the price point, as it's tapas style. These 4 dishes went around $86 including tip. We only ordered waters. I think at other spots we could've ran $60ish for two with the same amount of food OR the same price with even more food (apps/drinks/etc.).

Ohhhh my goddddd. The food is AMAZING. The best Italian everrrr. First time we went we didn't expect anything. Nice and clean. And service was sooo friendly.

Pelato does not disappoint! Their espresso martinis are delicious - you've got to try! The chicken parm was incredible as were the zucchini fries, calamari, and ravioli. Wasn't the biggest fan of the cannoli pancakes - were a lil dry for my taste. Would still return!

Pelato is a cozy Italian tapas-style spot that delivers big on flavor, even if the vibe is a bit more casual than expected. The décor leans more "neighborhood pizzeria" than fine dining, but once the food started coming out, we quickly forgot about that. Our server, Christine, was absolutely fantastic -- friendly, knowledgeable, and clearly passionate about what she does. She gave us great background on the restaurant and helped us navigate the menu with perfect recommendations. Go see her if you go -- she made the experience even better! We tried a wide variety of dishes: Burrata Crostini, Burnt Broccolini, Chicken Parmigiana, Meatballs Al Forno, Baked Clams Oreganata, Drenched Fried Calamari, Campanelle Shrimp Limon, and the Eggplant Gnocchi special. One dish was better than the next -- beautifully prepared and full of flavor. We finished with the Rainbow Cookies and Zeppolis, both a sweet and satisfying ending. My only complaint: for a restaurant built around shareable small plates, the portions didn't quite fit the concept. For example, only three meatballs, three Burrata crostini, and three rainbow cookies per order -- which makes sharing awkward for groups of four. If you're promoting "shareable," there really should be at least four pieces per dish. It felt a little intentional to nudge a second order. That said, the food and service were excellent, and we'd absolutely come back -- just maybe with a plan to double up on our favorites next time!

We had another lovely dinner at Pelato on their gorgeous patio! I love coming here on a beautiful night because the patio is bustling and the perfect date night or girls night spot. Our waiter was awesome. He was super attentive and personable. Food was yummy as always - we tried the potato croquettes, cauliflower picatta, meatballs, vodka pasta, and the ravioli. Everything was to die for.

Gotta try their Frozen Espresso Martini

Pelato has been on our list of places to eat for a while now. We had a freind in town and we decided to check out what all the fuse was about. When we got there the place was packed!! Definitely loud, they sat us in the back porch area. Our server Justin was Aw-mazing and so was everything we ordered. I feel that we tried so many different dishes and all were so good. The only issue I had was that they serve all small plates, when I think Italian I'm not thinking tapas sized portions (and for the price). That being said, it's definitely worth checking out and enjoying their food! Their dessert were just as delicious and I would not recommend on passing those up. The frozen espresso martini was so good, could have had 3 of those! Give them a chance, as they are always working on the menu and the quality was excellent!

The restaurant placed two separate holds on my account--one for $1 and another for over $100. I understand that temporary authorization holds can sometimes occur, but having two separate holds was unexpected and added to an already disappointing experience. I am not someone who waits in line for a reservation. I always joke that if Jesus Christ is at the end of the line, I'm still not waiting. So... we paid someone to stand in line for us. The place itself is adorable. Small, intimate, and full of charm. I was a little thrown off that the only drink options are beer, wine, or water. Two people in our party don't drink, so that felt like a miss. But then the food came. And I get it now. It was, without question, some of the best food I've had in a long time. We ordered a lot, and every single dish delivered. The caviar sliders were unbelievably good, buttery, salty, and indulgent in the best way. The tuna toast, fennel and celery salad, and ceviche were all standout, with the ceviche being especially memorable. The soft shell crab and tempura flounder were perfectly done. Even the gundi surprised me. And to finish, the "not fried" ice cream and banana pudding were just outstanding. Service was excellent, warm and attentive without being over the top. The whole experience felt special. Bottom line: I hate waiting in line, and I still wouldn't. But I am very glad we found a way around it. Totally worth it.

They are bougie as heck( only about food though) but they do travel globally just to try restaurants. So yes, we did hire the line stander which was definitely worth it. Got in and was seated facing the wall( 4 seats) . Definitely not an ideal seating setup. I have done this seating before at Holman and Finch in Atlanta and nobody cared once we were chowing down. I would have eaten on the floor. Diner vibes. Our server Sara was excellent. Always checking on us and making great suggestions. I hope I don't forget any dishes. Small plates included tempura tile fish which was fried deliciously crispy but had a big ole greasy mouth feel. There were a few half sliced okra that were delicious, but for the price point a couple of whole fried okra would have been appreciated. I would have ordered a couple of bowls of just the okra had they been whole. The sauce on that plate was a head scratcher. Yellow and tasteless. The celery salad was a nice texture change but not very flavorful. We all ate a bite and that's it. The next was charred lamb ribs with Romesco which one person liked. Large plates were chili garlic , shrimp, jalapenos and rice. That was outstanding! Unfortunately I only got one. Let me tell you that I despise all this sharing mentality. Let me order what I want and if I want to offer you a taste, so be it. So I ordered this and got one shrimp. Whole founder was second best of the night. It could have had 2/3 less sauce on it . Not subtle whatsoever. The grouper would have been up there but it was so under ( the top of the dish was cold, bottom was warm) that it could not be eaten although everyone took a bite) it was a beautiful dish although the tomatoes weren't ripe and it was a bit salty. We unfortunately got two of those so there was alot of lost food there. Wines were great and the bar next door was fine except they had zero Chardonnay. When you are a bar and waiting even with a time, you should have at least had a wine that I liked. Bottom thought is that this restaurant is popular because of its perceived exclusivity. I fell for it. I won't again. So many better places. Why did I give it a 4? I really think 3.5, but I too feel social pressure at times. It could be that we just didn't have a good menu day. There wasn't one dish that I had pined for on line that was on the actual menu, so be aware of that.

But people from other parts of the country, primarily may associate CHS with Low Country food like Shrimp & Grits, Fried Green Tomatoes and She Crab Soup. I didn't see any of these traditional Low Country dishes on S&S's menu. I did see (1) Carrot Bolognese, (2) Green Curry Cauliflower and (3) Seared Yellowfin Tuna with cashew tahini. S&S is a modern, creative, vegetable and fruit-focused Shareable Plate restaurant. A cool take on Farm to Table. You'll also find some seafood, chicken and meat dishes. It was so hot during our visit, that an imaginative menu with lighter high quality ingredients was welcome. My wife and I tried: Grilled SC Peaches with watercress and vinaigrette Watermelon with pickled rind, feta cheese and a vadouvan vinaigrette Gem Lettuce Salad with Maple Tahini, pistachios and pink peppercorns ‍ Chantrelle mushrooms with SC corn, black garlic and potatoes Free Range Chicken with an Ahi Amarillo sauce and cabbage Aside from the chicken, all of these dishes felt inventive and fresh. The plating was terrific. Lots of colors, shapes and textures. The flavors really popped. The stand-outs for me were the peach and watermelon dishes. The chicken was good too by the way. It was well cooked and had good texture. I wish the World had more restaurants like @sorghumsalt . It was a joy to eat there. Five Stars *Sorghum & Salt is not new in a technical sense. They existed in different forms prior to their more recent Brick and Mortar in the Cannonborough area.

Our favorite wine bar in the area!…read more The service was exceptional as our server was incredibly knowledgeable and helped us choose wines that were a perfect fit for our tastes. They offer an impressive selection of wines both by the glass and by the bottle, making it easy to find something you'll love. While the food menu is small, every item feels thoughtfully curated. The black olives were the perfect snack pairing, and the peaches were absolutely incredible. We loved learning that the peaches are sourced locally and that the mint is grown fresh right behind the restaurant. The space itself is cozy and intimate, creating a warm atmosphere that makes every visit feel special. We can't wait to come back!

It was quaint but very inviting. I'm so sorry if I got your name wrong but I think it was Nicole? She was very friendly and told us about their specials and I love that they print a new menu daily as they rotate a lot of their wines. There was an option to do a "half bottle" which gets you just a touch more than a glass so we thought that was perfect for the two of us for just under $40. We got a nice and chilled Gamay and enjoyed our conversations with her. It's a nice place for a date, girls night or even if you want to sit alone at the bar. The team there makes you feel at home!

There were 4 open spots at the bar, so when we *finally* found the host, we asked if they were first come, first served. He told us there were two people coming and that he'd let us know. After waiting probably 10 min, he finally agreed to seat us at the bar (the 2 other people never showed up). So, there we sat...and sat. Bartender finally comes by and plops a bottle of water in front of us. Doesn't say hi / bye / or eff you (although she definitely gave off the latter vibe with her body language). After sitting there another 10 min and not being acknowledged whatsoever, I got fed up. Stood up, told my girlfriend I had had enough...and I flat out refused to give my money to an establishment that treats their customers in this manner. Honestly, I grew up in the Lowcountry and I can tell you that *most* restaurants/bars/shops/etc. in Charleston feature employees who are generally gracious/friendly/hospitable/helpful. Then, on occasion, you run into places like this. How they stay in business has to be a function of location alone, because their service is absolutely horrible! Will advise anyone who will listen to avoid this place at all costs!
