I eat here regularly. Don't expect anything fancy, but if you're looking for fresh ingredients, solid preparation and great bartenders, this is your place. They have the best house salad and cedar plank grilled salmon in town. They also have incredible cocktail specials at different nights during the week. My sister and I visited Pelican's earlier this week. It was Martini Wednesday, which means all martinis are $5.50. The Dirty Bird was fine, a little too dirty. The happy hour food of calamari and peel and eat shrimp were great. The music was fine (old 80s music). The best thing about showing up at opening (4 PM), the crowd is minimal. You have time to talk to Jeremy, the bartender, and relax. This is definitely our next hot spot for the week. I walked into Pelican's about 4:30pm to pick up a to-go grilled chicken salad. It was very dark inside, almost empty and yes, it was a little like stepping into the 1980s (especially the music). Although I was originally disappointed I couldn't have my salad with the mushrooms and green bell peppers I wanted, the salad I got came with a variety of lettuce, baby tomatoes, a green onion, carrots, and a most delicious homemade ranch dressing. Although I ordered extra cheese, I got a little bitty container of cheddar (which the awesome ranch dressing more than made up for). It also came with homemade croutons and a side of their bread, fresh butter, and garlic. Besides really loving the ranch dressing, the grilled chicken was excellent too. Tender, thick, and juicy, with black pepper seasoning. Perfect ingredients for a great salad. I believe I'm hooked. read more

Good food but a little pricey. Ordered a calamari appetizer, but they were out?!? Got a Mexican shrimp cocktail and regretted it, shrimp in tomato sauce with sliced advocado. Ribeye and baked potato were delish as was clam chowder. Friend's fish and chips were good albeit a little oily. Overall nice change of pace, maybe for date night? I have been here before a long time ago for happy hour. We came back for dinner ... we'll let's start out by saying the staff is great & bar service was very good. We ordered a seafood platter to share and the price was around $24. We figured that there would be a lot of food as platters in most restaurants are. We were disappointed by getting 4 shrimp, 2 scallops and one cod fillet. We had 3 different sauces .. tarter, cocktail & ketchup which took up a third of the plate. We also had sweet potatoes fries. I'm not impressed on the portions... the fillet was bland... the shrimp and scallops were very good. I think they should advertise this in their menu as a seafood plate then as a platter. We have always had a great experience at Pelican's. Their steaks , shrimp and I have had catfish which is the best in town...Love the appetizer of stuffed mushrooms and mozzarella cheese, Yummy. My fish and chips was a little over cooked and dry. Another person at our tables salmon was so under cooked that she had to send it back. The server was very nice and attentive but the food was just okay. Maybe ot was just an off night since others in my party said the food is usually much better. read more

Awesome happy hour; really good food. Part of the charm of this place (I guess) is that when you walk into the door, you're stepping into 1988. It's clean and whatnot, but it seems so dated. It's nothing they should change though. The last time I was here was for happy hour and I ordered Absolut martinis and I swear that each martini was two (they bring the shaker to the table). I typically skip the bread at restaurants, but you cannot do that here - smear the roasted garlic on the bread and enjoy - amazing. I was in the mood for shellfish yesterday so I headed for Pelican's on the Westside. Heard they stocked great seafood and I sure was not disappointed. After an initial face-off with the hostess who stared at me like my zipper was down, I was led to a quiet table. Place was almost empty, but began filling up quickly. My server was swift and quite attentive. I started with Oysters Rockefeller. The wait was longer than expected, but the server assured me they would be out shortly. I focused on the crusty bread while I waited. The wait was well worth it. These gems were cooked perfectly--tender, plump and juicy with a bit of spinach on top. Delish! For my main course, I selected the char-broiled scallops wrapped in bacon. Bottomless salad bowl was served with a side of dressing. Very fresh and a variety of veggies. The scallops were served with a huge baked potato with all the trimmings. The bacon that was wrapped around the large scallops was almost crispy, but still flavorful. Plenty of lemon and drawn butter came with. Scallops were succulent, tender and moist. The flavor and consistency reminded me of lobster. So good soaked in the butter. To top off this scrumptious meal, I decided to try their Key Lime Pie--great decision. The color was natural and not the artificial green that some places serve. Graham cracker crust really hung together and didn't crumble. This was melt-in-your-mouth goodness. Everything was quite delectable and delicious and the service was outstanding. We always come here mainly for cheese sticks mussels and wine but we were in a hr before close and staff looked pissed. $156 meal with 5 of us eating all i got was the mussels as my meal and half of them were still closed manager gave them to us for half price but left hungry cause thats all i was eating while 5 of us shared a bottle of wine that means we all got just a taster and ordered another and server said he couldnt give us one being we had a bottle already . When i eat the mussels i tend to have at least 2 glasses being they pair perfectly but i guess the half glass i had fitted with my half order of mussels. Usually im a 20% tipper but i just left the server 10% just cause i know the business but was nowhere near worth the $170 that night. Will think twice before trying them again. read more

We went there for our anniversary. We wanted to try somewhere different and the reviews sounded great. The prices were listed online but NOT on their own website. First, I loved the ambiance, but when I saw that most of the cooks in the open kitchen had very long, scraggly beards with no beard cover, I was a little grossed out. But we thought we'd try it anyway. The prices on the menu were $7-10 higher than online, I might note. My husband ordered the Choice Ribeye for $27.99. When he received his plate, the steak was definitely NOT a ribeye. It looked like a strip. We told the waitress and she argued continuously that it said "ribeye". So we spoke to the manager, who agreed and ordered us another steak. The real ribeye was perfectly cooked to order and extremely high quality. The taste was fantastic. I ordered the "Large" Prime Rib for $29.99. When I received it, it looked pan seared, not roasted, and it was extremely small. I had looked at pictures from reviews and the reviews said they were huge portions and for that kind of money, I had expected to be taking half of it home. The baked potato was also very small, unlike the pictures again. My cut of meat was extremely poor, with most of my bites requiring forever to try to chew, then finally just swallowing the grissel. It had NO taste, was totally bland. I was soo disappointed in the quality of cut. We didn't have any dessert, we were afraid! To sum it up, totally NOT worth the money. We should definitely have gone to our favorite standby, Texas Roadhouse. We won't make this mistake again. read more

We went for our 43rd anniversary, we had reservations but still got seated in the bar, they said they were busy! Uncomfortable high bar chairs with a small table. The waiter acted like he hated serving food in the bar. We had to ask for water. I was served a small salad with no goodies(sunflower seeds, green onions etc) to go with it that are usually part of the salad that comes with a meal in a wooden container. Waited 45 minutes for dinner, he ignored us. Finally brought dinner and ran away, I had to flag him down to ask for bread! Never got a refill of water, he refused to take dirty dishes off our table so we set dishes and empty wine glasses on an empty table to give us room. Our reservation stated it was our anniversary, the hostess knew it and we told the waiter when we ordered. He brought the check, I asked about dessert, he said he forgot. Used to love this place, so sad it has gone downhill. Will not waste my time here again. Save your money, don't go here. read more

They've become one of my nearby faves. Every server we've had has been great, Babs rocks though! Decent drink and food prices, fair. I just wish the entrees were a little better, perhaps they need some more bling, too much of the same steak/seafood house fare. That's ok though, what we really come for, besides the hope of seeing Babs, is the appetizer and the complimentary roasted garlic & bread. I swear they have the best fried mozz and calamari I've ever had... cheese the size of a small dill pickle and calamari strips that must come from one of those giant deep sea squid that no one ever can get a picture of. Ok, sometimes the cheese is a little well done, guess I'll just have to wash it down with more roasted garlic. For 50 bones we'll get the apps, a bottomless salad, a bowl o' delectable chowder, and a couple beers. Not bad, not bad at all. I have dined here MANY times, but never yelped them. We arrived at the height of dinner hour tonight (Friday). Waited probably about 30 minutes for our table. Sat in a comfy booth by a window and we're promptly greeted by our server Gerald. He got us started on an app of grilled artichoke, which was AWESOME and we ordered a bottle of Bogle Shiraz (which was tasty!l) My honey had the Filet Mignon which he loved and I had the Pinon Crusted Tilapia. I have to say it was somewhat disappointing. It wasn't actually Pinon "crusted". It was okay, but not what I expected. But that being said, the meal was all over good. Went here for my 30th wedding Anniversary. I wanted it to be a special time but was very dissapointed. The Salmon was mush and smelled like old fish not fresh. The prime rib was almost all fat and for the price I paid was not worth it. The wait staff were great though and they did give us a free desert for out special day. First time at pelicans. We ordered fried calamari and it was the smallest appetizer plate I've seen!! It was more like a "taste". I ordered the fish and chips and I was told that the fries was the side.... I always thought "fish and chips" was fish AND fries.. My girlfriend ordered the piñon tilapia and it had no flavor. She sent it back. My fish was fried dark brown and not golden brown. I had to drown it in malt vinegar to try to add flavor. I didn't not have a good birthday meal.
