I was excited to see Penn Station. I was super excited to get a chicken teriyaki sub and a big mess of their delicious hand cut fries. I wasn't really greeted as much, but got a nod of the head from a young man at the grill. A young lady finally looked up from her phone and took my order. The food took awhile, they must have had a lot of "To-Go'' orders? The fries were the large greasy portion that I was looking for, they were wonderful. The sandwich was Hot and tasty, but I remember it being much larger or more full of chicken. The entire place was clean and well kept. I love Penn Station and I am willing to try it again. Maybe I will ask for double meat and cheese next time and see if it is what I remember. Give it a try and be sure to get a lemonade to drink, that stuff is so good, kind of addicting . read more

Always a fan of penn station. They have fantastic if a tad overpriced subs. We used to have one in my home town and I miss it every day. So this was a treat. Absolutely horrible quality and product 99% of the time. When good, it's acceptable. Have ordered a few times and always have an issue. Today's order was deliver via UberEats and it will be my last attempt. They actually sent a sub on an unbaked bun. Who does that? Total price was $47 for sub and fries. Cook the food properly please. Specifically the chicken. When you serve a wrap with raw chicken, you should offer something to the customer to right your wrong. I'm thankful I noticed it was raw before taking a bite. They offered me nothing other than to remake it. The service was fantastic; I was greeted immediately not just with a hello but also a smile which is rare in today's world. I had placed a rather large order and was early. When I mentioned I was picking up, I was directed where to go where I was greeted again and she asked for the name on the order. When I told her who I was, she informed me my order was nearly completed and that she just needed to drop my fries. That's right; they made my fries when I got there so they were FRESH. Top notch service. Food was delicious. The orders were all correct and everything was tasty and well kept. We needed a quick spot to eat on the Eastside while running some errands & was craving both an Italian sub and a steak & cheese sub, come to find out there is a new Penn Station on Gratiot, south of Hall Rd. Haha. Come to find out this location has been here since 2002, lol. The nice lady who rang us up said the family that owns the one in Downtown Rochester owns this one as well. Hard to judge a restaurant when the dining room is closed, bathrooms closed, but during covid the staff was wearing gloves, masks & they had extra plastic partitions up to keep the animals away from staff. Our food was really good, steak & cheese with mayo, mushrooms & onions on white had more onions then mushrooms but it was still good. The Italian sub on white had just the right amount of grease oozing out of the heated salami, combined with the mild pepper rings & Italian dressing, I could eat that sub once a week. I gotta admit, I'm a sucker for the kinda fries you get here @ Penn Station, cut to order, fried in peanut oil until crisp, served in a cup with a side of ketchup. Judging by the amount of people coming in & out of this parking lot while we were eating our dinner in the parking lot, we were the only ones who didn't know this location existed . I don't want to be a Karen but here I am. I went here on a Thursday evening, excited to venture out and get a delicious sub. My meal was great. However, the employees were all wearing their masks below their nose. Not even trying to fix them or that their was an issue they weren't wearing them correctly. Also, knowing this was beyond their control, but a couple walked in after Me- not wearing a masks. No one ever asked them to put one on. Or enforced the rule that was on their door, walls, in front of their cash register or whatever. Then when they ordered they put their masks on, below their noses.... We love Penn Station subs! We sought out this location, during a visit to Michigan recently. Their quality control has gone down, since our last visit... We ordered the small cheese steak and a small Italian. The small has gotten REALLY small... But, that wasn't what turned us off. The cheese steak was ordered with the banana peppers on it. My co-workers order from this place often. The first time I ordered a wrap... bland and boring. The second time I ordered a Cheesesteak Sandwich. Again, kind of bland and boring. I've had way better from multiple places (including pizza places that don't specialize in sandwiches/subs). Since that second experience, I've tried to suggest other places to my co-workers. However, today, they wanted Penn Station again. So, this time, I ordered the Turkey Avocado Salad. There was no AVOCADO!! The salad included a pre-packaged avocado PASTE! The menu didn't mention anything about that. It stated Turkey Avocado Salad. So, why would I assume there wouldn't be pieces of avocado in it?? Beware! Been a fan of this place for decades. It's the only place I always go to when I come back in town from Texas. Had it today... absolutely terrible. A bunch hooligan kids working there blaring music and having no care or concern for the quality of the product they put out. Everyone's subs were bad. Poorly packages and smashed. My only problem with this place is sometimes the way they hand you your sub makes the oil get all over your sandwich making it soggy. (This rarely happens but it really sucks) But besides that I come in here all the time and it's always fresh because they are always busy but you will get your food within 10-20 minutes almost every time. I don't mind waiting in the lobby because it's pretty nice and open in there. There's also window seats in there, which is something you don't usually get in a sub shop. Ordered a couple of subs, one being just a straight veggie. No cheese, no sauce. It was pathetic. A bit of lettuce (not even across the full bun), maybe five mushrooms pieces, three flimsy half slices of tomato. There's was two pickle slices and maybe a green pepper slice. Didn't even add the salt, pepper, and oregano that was requested. They couldn't even take the time to cut in half like the other one. It was actually embarrassing that we paid for that. Vegetables do not cost that much that they couldn't have at least made it look like a normal sub. And reading other reviews saying how they like the meat on? Sad. I recently had my first experience with Penn Station when I was asked at 8 in the morning to order food for 25 people for lunch. I had a hard time finding places that were open early enough, but someone suggested Penn Station so I decided to check it out. I placed a rather large order online with a pickup time of 12:15. I arrived a little early and saw a business full of staff who were on their feet working hard. They had a couple questions about my order and were extremely helpful in getting extra sides, condiments, etc. I'm not sure if the gentleman I interacted with most was the manager, but if he wasn't he should have been - he was the definition of hustle and did not skip a beat filling orders and keeping everything in line. At 12:20 my order was ready, and they apologized profusely (which they didn't have to, I was so grateful they were able to accommodate an order that large at the last minute). They never treated me like an inconvenience, either. The subs and fries were a big hit at the meeting. I'll definitely be back. read more

Well this place has become a favorite tied with my favorite grinder shop just a few miles up gratiot from Penn Station. Fresh ingredients all around. Great texture and flavors on point for what they are shooting for. The fries are good but sometimes I skip the fries just to be health conscious. Just left... It took five minutes for our order to be taken and at that time it was 6:57 PM. I walked out of there at 7:18 PM and was given an attitude before finally getting my food. When I first placed my order the girl asked me if it was for here or to go I said to go. A girl came to deliver our food and it was not to go and one of the subs was also missing, which was a hot one. I told her that I was missing one and that I had said it was to go. She did not offer an apology just turned around with an attitude and went back behind the counter and repacked the cold subs and proceeded to make the hot one. So I waited another eight minutes or so before that was done and then she brought the bag to me and said "here". I confirmed that one sub was in fact hot and she said "yeah" again with her attitude. No apology for the wait or for the order being incorrect in the first place. It was seriously like a high school romper room in there when I first arrived. Two young girls were leaning over the counter and putting their own orders into the computer and just plain goofing off while the young manager and the other working girls just looked on. I was once a manager of a retail store at a young age and I never behaved, or let my employees behave, the way that these kids were behaving today. I'm not sure if the higher ups know what's happening when they're not around but I've been in several times before and have never had an issue... today was a completely different story and I don't know that I'll return. read more

First time trying Penn Station! Great service, great staff! Subs were good I had the roast beef and provolone wife had the Italian! She had chips I chose the home made French fries! Subs were good, glad I paid the up charge for extra meat because I still felt it needed more meat! Glad I got double cheese too! Fries were good but cold so that was disappointing but carry outs can be that way snd with the COVID thing going on, it is what it is. Who forgets the Caesar salad dressing on a Caesar salad? All you get without the dressing is lettuce, chicken and a a few pieces of cheese. A large fries was more like a medium. My grandsons enjoyed their subs but sad to say this takeout order was disappointing. I've been buying from this location for quite a while which is why they received 3 stars. Come on! Well this was my last visit to the Clinton twp location. Will start by walking in nobody eating in. Everyone was cleaning up. 8:56 pm. All good so far. Next placing my order. My daughter who was also with me. She asked dine in or carry out. We reply dine in manger buts in no dine in. ( rudely said) name on order I'm asked. Jeff I tell her my pick of sandwich only. She goes will that be all? Um 1 6" sandwich 2 guest. My daughter orders hers. Is that all. I said no a med fry. Is that all. No a soft drink. What size? Med ok I ring you up down there. 5' further. So dumb. Anyways as we are standing there another of the 4 working comes to ring me up after I have already paid. A call comes in manger no phone orders. 9:04 pm closes at 10pm tell them we are short staffed. Um 4 workers isn't short staffed. Cook finished making our sandwiches calls out med fry. She's scraping the bin of all little pieces to fill some plastic scoop. Historically this location skimps on fries like they don't have potatoes. I get home and that's when I started to really boil over. This cup of fries was almost within a few pieces was the amount I get at the 12 mile location when I just order a small. No lie. And my sandwich and my daughters were so small it was disgusting. About the same size as a hotdog. And for $24.00 I don't think so. I've had it with them. And I'm sure as the usual not a damn thing is going to be done. I don't want anything other than for someone to re train everyone and tear into that manager for closing early and not taking the phone order and for under portions on everything. I wish I hadn't started writing this review because I know that my lunch plans for tomorrow are going to be changed. So the biggest reason I love this place is literally everything is from ingredients, not pre-made frozen crap. Please understand that in no way does "everything is from ingredients" mean "this place is healthy", which is exactly the kind of food I love. Subs: They fry the meat, then melt the cheese on top in an oven. The meats are not reconstituted perfectly round shaped inexplicable soylent green. (Well, the salami is round, but that's normal). The regular bread (I've never had their flat bread) is traditional white Italian and if it were possible to make traditional white Italian bread "not boring" I'd say they've managed. Fries: Ok, screw the subs. You came there for the subs, I know. But if you get a sub and neglect to get fries you will have missed out on the whole experience. Remember that thing about fresh ingredients? They start with a potato ... No, seriously, a whole potato. And they make fries out of it after slicing the potato into fry shaped strips. They're greasy (but then, they fried your meat before putting it on your sub, so you're already past that, right?). Did I say they're greasy? They come out almost the color of the oil they swam in. I DREAM about these fries. It's really wrong. Everybody drools over the 5 Guys and Fries fries. If you eat these fries, you will be angry staring at your 5 Guys Fries. Service: If you dine in, they bring the food to your table rather than yelling out your name (this may not always be the case, we tend to go there when it's not the lunch rush). A few tips: Don't go there right after they open on Sunday morning (noon). Since they used to open at 11:00, there's usually a few called-in orders and it's taken more me than 30 minutes to get food there despite showing up at about 12:15. They're right near Selfridge and our fighting men and women seem to have the same addiction that I do. The quality of food does not suffer when they're busy, but the time to get it does. Frankly, it's worth the 30 minute wait. Get Lemon-aid. Like the fries being made from a whole potato, their Lemon-aid is made from a lemon, not a powder. It is awesome. The "club" is not anything like a club sandwich. The ingredients didn't make sense in my head, but it is probably my favorite thing on the menu. To Ron's point - the staff is engaged and I have seen different managers coach and work the staff in a respectful way. They also walk around and ask how your meal is. Great staff and good food. I order a steak & cheese sub . It was really just a onion sub & and next morning can't get the onion smell out of the area . I think they serve a more condiments sub but not a actual meat sub . So disappointed and think the steak & cheese missing for the sub & just loaded up on onions without cheese , mushrooms & steak . Haven't been to Penn station in years. Today was my first time going back and it was at this Gratiot location. My friend and i went on lunch break and stood at the register for 10 minutes without being acknowledged by the 6 or 7 staff members. There were at least 10 people waiting on their "pick up" orders and a few waiting on their recently placed orders. I understand it was lunch time and they were busy, but we had to leave and find lunch elsewhere. If they had at least acknowledged us or even given us a glance maybe we would have waited. read more

Bought three subs and two were just ok. One was chicken parmesan. It was gross and bitter. We very nicely went back to just possibly exchange the sub and the little manager girl was like "let me call my general manager because if there isn't anything wrong with it, we won't do anything" Seriously??? First of all...I normally wouldn't bother even going back but their subs suck and are super expensive. I have never brought back or sent back food where they don't fix the issue.
