This was one of the first places I tried when I moved here last year. It's now become one of my favorite spots. They have a delicious hot honey pizza and their tiramisu is so good as well. We've ordered different pastas and have never been disappointed. The staff is very friendly and although this restaraunt gets very busy, they always have a smile on their face. Major health code violations - Absolutely horrible experience here had to call the health department because I was served completely raw chicken in a dish that was not supposed to have any meat in it. The manager was so rude and dismissive and made us think this was not an isolated incident. Simply tried to give us dessert to make us feel better about the fact that we all just ate raw chicken and to make matters worse, my friend is pregnant and ate it too. read more

The freshness of all ingredients at this farm-to-table concept is evident in every dish and makes this a superior dining adventure! The ordering process is easy and should serve as a model for all restaurants. You seat yourself at any long, communal table, scan the QR code, order and pay with your phone, and the food is made fresh and quickly arrives! It's so efficient! The menu offers a wonderful array of pinsas, hand-pressed pizzas that have been popular in Italy for a century. Not your typical sit down restaurant! There are no "waiters". When you arrive you are basically told yo find a table. You're then given two cups and a carafe of water and showed a QR code for the menu. You will actually place your order though the QR link. If you order a drink they will bring you a special glass to use at the soda fountain. The soda fountain is one of my favorite brands though, Stubborn Soda! Where do I begin..... My experience with this place was a rollercoaster of emotions. We had made a reservation for 6pm but we were not sat until 6:45. We were told that this was because the people in our table had taken too long. Once we were sat, the waitress was not very helpful with the menu and we did not get water brought to the table until we asked. Menu wise, a lot of it looked good.... But there were a number of items marked as out of stock. Just remove them from the menu! Specially since it's on a website... The food came within a reasonable amount of time. On my end of things I think I did not order the right thing but that does not take away from the flavor. The pizza I got was delicious and pairing it with a Peroni was such a good idea. The ambience was good! The laughs were great! And at no point did we feel like the workers wanted us out. I don't think I would offer this up to my friends as an option to go to for dinner... but if someone brought it up, I would go. We had an excellent lunch here, with great food and a very friendly and helpful staff. They have gluten-free pasta available too. While all the pastas looked incredible, I decided to try one of their Pinsa Romana options. These are similar to a pizza, and they offer a variety of different toppings. I opted for the Pinsa Maiala (pork), which includes salami, sausage, and porchetta. It was fantastic. The dough is pretty similar to a traditional Italian pizza, but a little more dense with a more interesting flavor. The toppings were excellent and flavorful. My wife had the Campanelle Pazze, which includes roasted tomatoes, confit garlic, kalamata olives, and basil. The dish was delicious, with a generous portion. She substituted gluten-free pasta, and you would almost never know it wasn't regular pasta. There's a QR code at each table, enabling you to place your order and pay your tab using your phone, but this isn't required. You can also go to the counter to place your order. And even though we opted to order and pay from my phone, the staff still checked in on us regularly to make sure we were having a good experience. PennePazze is located in the L&L Market, which has a variety of great shops and restaurants. If you enter from within the mall you go downstairs and through a door to the back entrance, which felt a little weird. For drinks, I got the stubborn soda - they have an array of options and could change which one you got whenever you wanted to. The pasta was so fresh and delicious - I even brought leftovers home and my dad said it still tasted really good! I hadn't quite grasped their service model, but this is the kind if place where you find your own table and there's a QR code so you can order from your phone, and there's a pickup area where you go to get your food when ready. There's no table service as such, just one person wandering around clearing tables and offering occasional tips (which, to be fair, I needed). I'm torn on these sorts of things as I can see the case for maximizing the food aspect of a restaurant but I do miss genuine quality service, peripheral to the experience as it might seem. Also, I want the few people working there to get paid well, but it leaves me in the uncomfortable position of having to decide a tip; I tend to err on the side of generosity, but I think there is a corrosive effect to paying here what I would have for a full-service experience. Anyway, the food itself was fresh and delivered the flavors I'd hope. My full-on pesto dish came with sundried tomatoes, pine nuts, garlic confit, parmesan. All of the things you'd ever want on such a dish, and each one contributed without being overwhelming. My salad wasn't quite what I'd hoped; while I was okay with a light portion of pasta and a large amount of delicious sauce, with my salad it was kind of too little arugula and too much dressing, which left me with an overly tart lemon-y experience. It was a pricey meal, all things considered. Walking in, it was a mixture of a causal warm ambience due to a lot of wood and brick furnishing with an open view of the kitchen. We ordered from the most popular menu items and I was not disappointed at all. First, the Nonna Paula was absolutely amazing. It was my favorite dish we ordered. Each bite was filled with fresh parmesan and a creamy goodness from the pesto. Usually I'm not a fan of how overpowering the pesto sauce may be but here, the pesto was not overpowering and well balanced with the cheese. I highly recommend this pasta! My friends I shared a pizza and another pasta dish and it was super delicious. Everything was hot and fresh. I've tried other Italian places all over Los Angeles, and this place has been so far the best I've ever tried. We also got two pizzas, and both were very good. High quality pepperoni and other toppings. The experience here is weird. You get seated, and then you're pretty much on your own. Order from a website/portal...unsure if it matters if you each order yourself or if one person needs to do it for everyone. Then they drop it off and you're on your own again. Need salt? Good luck. Maybe you'll see some on a table nearby, but there's no one to ask for it. Want a drink? Get it yourself. And, btw, they have some trendy soda option that sucks. Just serve Coke people. We get it, you're hip and cutting edge and all that, but c'mon. At the end they ask for a tip, and I'm wondering who gets it? It felt like Walmart requesting a tip after I did self checkout. So the food is pretty good. But if you want a traditional restaurant experience, go somewhere else...or stay home where you can just as easily order from and app or just serve yourself and not wonder who benefits from tacking 20% on top of an already expensive (for what it was) meal. read more

We came here for dessert after a heavy dinner, and this restaurant had 3 options: a tiramisu, a panna cotta, and a cannoli. I got the panna cotta which is a cheesecake-like dessert with a fresh strawberry compote layer on top and topped with a crispy, caramelized crumble. It was really, really delicious. I would come here again for that. I also smelled excellent Italian food such as pastas and pizzas coming from here, and I would definitely try their pasta as I hear it is made fresh in house. You can order food online via a QR code on their menu, however their tiramisu does not show up on the online menu. The restaurant is very confusing in understanding what to do when you get there, and you have to walk around to the very corner to place your orders. This area is not clearly marked at all. My suggestions here would be to make it more obvious what new guests need to do when coming to the restaurant. I would also ask that the business carefully reviews the online menu, ensuring that every item on their physical menu is also on their digital ordering platform. read more
