I have been here several times this visit was on a late Friday afternoon for the all-you-can-eat Fish Fry. We found the place packed with a crowd of mostly seniors and older adults. We were seated right away in the crowded dining room. (They have a nice patio for cooler weather dining) Our waitress took our drink order and told her we all wanted the fish. We all opted for the single order, single order is a few dollars less with more than enough food for even the biggest appetite. Orders arrived in about 10 minutes. Fish crispy and hot. Large pieces of Cod fish are dipped in a mild batter. This is probably some of the best fried fish around. Flaky, white flesh fried to a non-greasy goodness. Sides are run of the mill choice of potato, coleslaw and roll. Our older waitress was all about business. Efficient and thorough but wasn't into small talk. If you are looking for ambience this isn't the place for you. It's old and dated. If you want good home cooked food or fish fry this is a perfect option in the North West valley. read more

Against popular reviews the fish fry has no flavor. On top of that when we ordered the "all you can eat fish fry" our server said, "it's not that price (that was on the menu) it is still $13.99 but will be going up soon." So we each ordered another plate of fish only to receive a $5 up charge on the bill for each of our meals. When we asked about it; the server said that the $13.99 was for the single serving because sometimes people don't want the all you can eat after they order it. Not good communication. First off, let me say that my family is Mexican. We make menudo and know that everyone makes it differently and know that sometimes, the pieces of meat have texture & sometimes even small amounts of hair (many times if not washed well beforehand). Also, we have been coming to Peoria Cafe for about seven years and never had this issue. Now that we have gotten that out of the way, our experience today was horrible. First, I called & was on hold for approximately 10 minutes, just listening to order being taken then just noises of the restaurant. I think I was forgotten about and I understood they were very busy so I hung up and tried again - no way of getting through anymore. My mom ended up going and buying menudo to go. When we sat down to eat, I grabbed a spoonful and noticed 2 little eyelash looking hairs. I didn't say anything, picked them out and grabbed another spoonful. Same thing... then the next & the next. I asked my family if they saw any in theirs and all four of us had these hairs in 95% of the spoonfuls we were examining. When we examined the meat parts (menudo), every piece was FULL of these same hairs. I called them with my concern and said we found some hairs and they should probably check that out in case they are serving it to their other patrons. Was told it was just "herbs" and that they would only exchange it... sent these pictures too and still "just herbs". We know losing one customer isn't important to some and some business apparently don't abide with the "customer is always right" but we will no longer be coming here. Perhaps there needs to be some quality control on the meat before its cooked. Or maybe the cup that they used to package ours had hairs before they put the menudo in it. Idk but it was a very unpleasant experience! Wouldn't recommend anymore because of the hairs & the handling of the situation. read more

Last night was my first experience here and it was amazing. The first thing I noticed while I was outside waiting for friends to arrive was that Najet would be continuously coming outside or even to people's cars (sometimes on the far side of the parking lot) to advise them their table was ready. I mentioned to her that I thought it was nice of her to do that and she said, "it's no big deal, we love our customers". I was sold. Once seated our waitress, Heather was fantastic. She held a great conversation, continually brought any drink refills without ever having to wait and handled an extremely confusing order without missing a beat. The fish fry was great and I will be sure to come back again especially with the wonderful service I received last night. read more

My family and I have been coming to the Peoria Cafe for the last 10 years. I am sad to say that they were sold in November of 2021. It definitely shows in there service, their prices, and their food. When we came in for breakfast we should should have known when there were plenty of seats available. We sat down, the table was dirty. When we ordered we wanted to replace the potatoes and toast with tomatoes and we were told that we could sub tomatoes for the potatoes but we could not sub for the toast , I said ok and asked if I could order sliced tomatoes and was told for three slices of tomato it was 2.50 or so, fed up with it all I said never mind and that I would pass on breakfast. All of the sudden they could sub everything for tomatoes. Now normally I would not make such a big deal about it, but I also thought she was quite rude. My wife and son still got breakfast however the server never came back to the table except to deliver their food. Today will be our last visit to the Peoria Cafe. Tomatoes and rudeness that is all it took. That's too bad because I really used to enjoy this place. Just an update, it took about 20 minutes to get our food. The table next to us came in and ordered about 10 minutes after us. They received their food about 5 minutes before us. Guess we were being punished for me not ordering. We had to ask for a refill on the coffee, as our server walked by our table to give the others a refill. Oh well shit happens. I hear that Brothers cafe across the street makes a really good breakfast. read more

I ended up going to this restaurant by mistake...but let me tell you, it was Worth it! From the time you walk in you are greeted by the girl up front....& we're seated fast. Our drinks were brought right away.....& the food after we order came out pretty fast. The taste was really good..I like how they have a variety of different dishes for everyone.....I didn't have the menudo but I heard it was very good (might try it on my next visit) very cozy atmosphere they have going on. Peoria cafe. Nostalgia is alive here with it's uncomplicated atmosphere, food and service. You open the door to the 50's, I know, I've been there. If you are looking for home cooking, it's here. And it's good. Had liver and onions, veggies with mashed potatoes. I know it's not everyone's dish, but it was just right. The veggies were a mix you don't get elsewhere. Carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, green beans, not cooked to death. The service is very friendly, informative and truly served with a smile. Give it a chance. I decided to give this place a try after living down the street from the place for 3 years. I was not Impressed at all. They need to improve their customer service skills. It was not busy when I went in but no host or hostess to greet or sit me. I waiting a few minutes. Finally a waitress came to seat me. They had booths and table in the restaurant and I was not given an option. Straight to a table with very uncomfortable seats. I wasn't even offered a drink. Maybe 5 minutes later I was offered a drink. The food is like any place else for breakfast, but again, they need to work on their customer service here. Do yourself a favor readers. Go to Mercers or Brothers restaurants. Much better environments with polite hostesses waiting to greet and seat you. read more

I was told to try Peoria cafe it was okay, the hostess didn't really greet us at the door and I had to let her know I wanted a table for two.. the server Sara was nice but didn't really check on us to see if we enjoyed the food, I wanted to order a cup a tea but wasn't able to bcuz she never came back... I got the avocado toast which honestly I imagined to be a bit different like already mashed up avocado on both slices but there was only one half sliced avocado... kind of pointless to get it since I had to smash it and put my own ingredients. I wish the potatoes would have been a little bit more of a crunch. Overall it was just okay, I don't know if I'll come back.. they had a huge selection so maybe I'll go and try everything. I've been eating at the same breakfast place all my life here in AZ. I'm always on the hunt for the best corned beef hash and eggs. This place has the BEST corned beef hash! They cook it perfectly and their hashbrowns are also amazing! I've ordered this breakfast twice now these past two weekends and it is phenomenal. I had the day off so my husband and I decided to try a new breakfast spot by us. When we walked in we were immediately greeted by the hostess and seated. Our server was at our table right away to get our drink order. They have a lot of options to choose from and have daily specials as well. I decided to go with the garbage omelette which had meats, veggies, green chilies and cheese served with home fries and toast. Our food was out within 10 minutes of ordering which is great cause we were hungry! The plates were HUGE and filled with food. My omelette was pretty good and I'm trying to stay low carb so only had a few of the potatoes but they were okay. My husband had scrambled eggs with hash browns and biscuit with gravy. He didn't care for the eggs and hash browns as he said they were really plain even with the salt and pepper. He really liked the biscuits and gravy. I tried them and I don't like biscuits and gravy but they were pretty good. The biscuits wasn't dry and the gravy had big chunks of sausage in it. Overall you get a lot of food for cheap and it's typical diner food. I really liked our server though. She was very attentive, nice and kept our drinks filled which is a big thing with my husband. Great breakfast place overall. Servers are quick and friendly and get you refills without you even asking. Keep in mind we came in Sunday 12pm, it was quite busy and loud but we were seated quickly and was given our drinks and menu to look over. The menu is huge and has options for everyone in my opinion. Nice little find...Cheap, filling and good! Bout 25 min from the Sky Harbor. 3 people and $40 buckaroos later our bellies were full. If you're looking for variety to suit multiple tastebuds, they got that right here. My cohorts and I stuck with the breakfast items: The Feta and The Steak omelettes. I stuck with the simple City with a side o thinly grated Hashbrowns. Eggs and french toast were fluffy, bacon crispy & sausage flavorful. BUT, the oddest thing was that they had only ONE ketchup bottle that was rotated around like musical chairs. LOL. No biggie tho. Staff was super kind. I have been to this place many times over the years always to mediocre food and so-so service. I made a to go order. The person who answered the phone was rude and hung up on me. I had to call back. I didn't realize they are charging an extra 'to go' charge. Also, they have a sign up saying that they can't get good help due to government handouts--your service was poor before the pandemic. Nice atmosphere - feels like an authentic breakfast joint. The food is roughly about the quality you'd expect for the price you pay. I enjoyed the breakfast burrito I'd ordered, but I wasn't blown away - I could've made the same thing at home. (I know it's not a Mexican restaurant, but still) The coffee tasted a little cheap (about what you'd expect) - I prefer a hot cup of black coffee and avoid adding extra sugar/cream, but I had to add sugar cause it wasn't appetizing. Service was good, the servers and hostesses were all very friendly in the frantic breakfast environment. I'd like to revisit this place someday, but I will probably order something else. My sister and I stopped in for breakfast yesterday. We were seated quickly and placed our orders. The food came, but instead of scrambled eggs, my sister's plate had some very runny over-easy eggs. My eggs were dry and rubbery. She sent hers back and I dug in. The bacon was cooked to perfection. The sausage was a bit bland, but edible. The pancakes were HUGE...the size of frisbees. A bit tough. The biscuit that came with my sister's meal was also oversized. She said it was quite good. Just the right amount of crust and baked all the way through. After reading the good reviews, we decided to give it a try while in the area. Very good service. Our waitress apologized twice for the wait and I didn't feel like we had waited very long at all. In fact fairly prompt service. The food is good down home food. Very tasty and seasoned properly. If you decide to go, bring your appetite or be prepared to take a to go box, or both! Breaks my heart, just breaks it. Peoria Cafe has lost my business. Ive been going there a long time, and I dont know if today I was just a little more alert, or if these are new policies, but I wont return. I was charged a dollar twenty five for a side of ranch. Really? Two ounces of ranch for a dollar twenty five. I understand food costs, but that is eighty dollars a gallon for a condiment. When I asked for it, the waitress failed to mention that charge. My wife ordered a CHEESEBURGER. She asked for cheddar. They charged her a dollar twenty five to substitute cheddar for American. Again, the waitress failed to mention this charge. We took the problem to the cashier explaining the absurdity of these charges, and she basically shrugged her shoulders and said "tough rocks pal." It is a bummer, I will miss the place, but that is highway robbery. No excuse for these kinds of upcharges. Especially without informing the customer beforehand. read more
