If your car has wheel lock to change the tire at Pepboy in Annandale, VA, please check your wheel lock return to your car before you leave otherwise you will have very bad case like me. I bought the new tire at Pepboy in Annandale in December 2022..for my dodge charger 2016.. I forgot to check my wheel lock when I got my car. I suddenly got my tire issue and need to check but they were unable to unlock the tire for me because I had no wheel lock. I came to Pepboy store in Annanale , VA and I showed the Tech my receipt. He checked and let me know...He could not find it now but the tech remembered it ..he will find for me. He needs few days to find..One week later, I came again ..He said ..they could not find it..he said " you tow the car here, We will pay and unlock the tire for me" .. I asked him .. my car is now 40 miles away..why you don't keep for me the lock and I can call the AAA to unlock for me.. He said " He "will manually open" it" .. Do you guys believe it..? And how long Will I have the car in the shop? and How long will they manual open it..and I don't want to hear many excuses again I went to Dodge dealer and let them know..not only they unlocked my tire and they ordered for me a new wheel lock .. It was a good experience overall. I came here for my yearly vehicle inspection. I also drive for Uber and they have a partnership to offer me free inspection. I visited around lunchtime on a Thursday and they weren't too crowded, my inspection was done for free in less than thirty minutes. The staff was friendly and helpful. A few small cons: I attempted to call earlier in the day, and the phone rang for almost three minutes with no answer. The desk isn't always staffed, and the staff had trouble identifying which keys were mine, which briefly made me nervous about a misplaced key. Not a big deal, the clerk was cool and very helpful. What is the point of having an appointment when they don't even begin servicing your car until 2 hours past your appointment time? I made a 12PM appointment several days in advance for a wheel alignment. When I arrived, the employee quoted me a 1 and 1/2 to 2 hour wait time, which I did not mind too much as I had some time to kill. It was definitely busy. I sat in their waiting room, which had a couple of chairs and a television. During my wait I continually glanced through their garage window, hoping to see my car appear. Two hours passed, however, and I still did not see my car. My wheel alignment ultimately took a total of 2 and 1/2 hours, with the actual wheel alignment only taking about 20 minutes. Needless to say, I was not a happy camper. The employee was very apologetic and explained that Saturday was their busiest day out of the week. He told me that they had multiple wheel alignment appointments and only 1 machine to complete the job. He also offered me a discount on the service, which I appreciated. While I understand they are busy, I strongly believe they need to reevaluate their system to properly handle appointments. The only reason why I am not giving them 1 star is because they made the effort to make up for it, which shows that they do value their customers. read more

I bought tires on Amazon and had them delivered to their shop to have installed. I set the appointment up for 5pm on a Friday. The morning of at 9 Am after I got to work they called to tell me to drop the car off before 10 am so they can have all day to work on it. I was just having 4 tires installed mind you. So there was nothing I could do I complained about not being notified before hand as they had a week. The only thing that I could of done was reschedule so I did. I dropped my car at 8am and left for work. I called at 4:30 pm to see if my car was ready and they said they would call me when its ready. Since I had a ride I asked to be dropped off to wait for my car. When I got there Frank was at the desk and I asked him how long before its ready 1, 2 hours, when you close as it was taking a long time for 4 tires. He replies, " probably when we close." then walks off. I sit in the waiting area which is dingy and dirty and is a step away from being a janitors closet at which point it is getting closer to closing. I say to him," you need to get someone working on my car this is ridiculous." They finally get to my car after they closed they moved my car into one of the bays and just leave it there for another 20 minutes. I see another mechanic bring in another car into their shop and still see my vehicle untouched. I got fed up, my anger got the better of me, I asked for my keys back at 8:30 pm and left. Called amazon got my tires and service refunded and will never in my life contemplate going back to that location. They really brought down the name Pep Boys. (update) Called Amazon for a refund, and they arranged for UPS to pick up the tires. When UPS showed up to pick up the tires they said that they didn't have them. Amazon said they couldn't issue a refund until the tires were received even though I never received the tires. I argued with Amazon that since I was not the middle man that they should deal with recovering the tires and to issue me a refund. Since they wouldn't do that I had no choice but to dispute the charge for the tires and get my bank involved. Advice don't go to this shop, they don't know how to give customer service and they are spiteful. read more

This is the filthiest store I have ever seen. Inside and outside. Inside boxes everywhere. Trash all over the floors. Nasty rug in the waiting area.. old coffee cups.. Outside the trash cans were over flowing. What looked like abandoned cars with flat tires. And that's just the look of the place. We waited 2 days for an appointment for an oil change. Our appointment was the first one on Sunday morning 9 am. They didn't even start on the oil change until 9:30. And the technician who pulled the van into the bay hit something with the van as we WATCHED him pull in. Then the manager had the nerve to ask if we actually saw it happen. I got 4 new tires shipped there from Amazon to get them installed my appointment was at 1pm left there around 4pm due then being slow. Plus that's not it they broke my tire pressure sensor, total idiots working there, they don't care about your car. Carlos however got new ones and had them installed but still the tpms light wasn't going away until I went to the dealer. I've had TWO horrible back to back experiences here. I don't know why I went back the second time but they proved to me that I should never go back. My first visit, I went because I heard a lot of scraping noise from a wheel. A "brake specialist" looked at my car and inspected it for 4+ hours. They told me it was defective brake pads, even though I had just put new ones in. They were wrong as I took it to another shop and I found out my wheel bearing was broken and needed to be replaced ASAP as my entire wheel was loose. I spent money on new pads for nothing. My second time happened today. I called in yesterday for an appointment and after someone initially picked up, was subsequently left on hold for more than 30 minutes! I hung up and called back and finally got through to someone and told him I needed to replace a bleeder valve on my caliper as it had snapped off. He set me up for an appointment after not asking much other information. I leave work early and show up and they tell me they can't replace my bleeder valve and instead can only replace my ENTIRE Caliper. Why on earth would I shell out 200+ just to fix one small valve which I already bought the part for. Why on earth did y'all leave me on the phone for 30+ minutes and set me up with an appointment after hearing my issue, just to hear my issue again and say they can't do what I needed done. I missed work all day waiting for my car for just THREE TIRES to be replaced. 6 hours to replace three tires which is 45 minute procedure or less. I called in at 330 they said 2 more hours, called in at 530 - two more hours , called in at 630 they said 1 hour and then it was finally ready. First and last time I will use the service . read more

If I could give a ZERO - I would. I purchased and paid for a set of new tires from the locations Service Manager in person on Sat morning - 11/5/22. He confirmed the tires were in stock and would be delivered to the Annandale store on Monday - 11/7/22 and that he would call to schedule installation. Monday came and went - NO PHONE call - Nothing. I called and no one knew the status of the order - were they delivered or not? No one on-site knew anything - so i left a message for the Service Manger to give me a call on Tuesday - NOTHING. So I called Tuesday (11/8/22) and finally spoke to the Service Manager - he stated that they were not delivered and guaranteed they would be delivered on Wednesday morning (even if he had to pick them up himself) then scheduled my install at 10am/Wednesday (11/8/22). I arrived at the Annandale store location at 9:45am - only to find out the TIRES were NOT delivered as promised and the Service Manager was OFF. So much for his word/guarantee as a man or representative of Pep Boys. Asst Mgr said they were on a truck - delivery ETA and stated Service Mgr was OFF and not on location. Frustrating, disappointing - tires finally arrived a 11:30am and finally got them installed. I was offered by the Service Mgr a free oil change for my trouble - NOT ACCEPTABLE! If you think I will EVER come back to the Annandale, VA store location - you a crazy. That Wednesday (11/8/22) I reached out to Pep Boys corporate and filed a complaint - Today is 11/15/22 and like their Service Manager - NOTHING! - no one has reached out to address this compliant. Seems to be a Pep Boy policy not to contact the customer to address in detail. Seems poor customer service, lack of communication, terrible customer service is policy from the top down at Pep Boys. I have reached out numerous times to corporate office - NOTHING and its 12/7/22. I did recv a call from field leadership contact - I returned the call/left a message and my contact information and NEVER recvd a call back. Customer service obviously from top to bottom of this organization means NOTHING to them. 12/16/22 - Update - NOTHING! I came in for a bettery replacement on a 2012 jeep grand Cherokee. I scheduled through the website and payed online. Apparently, the staff was unaware that the bettery is located under the passenger seat and charged me an additional $40+ fee. How does neither the website, or the technicians not know where a bettery compartment is located on a 7 year old car? Furthermore, why doesn't the price reflect the alternate location up charge?! Its a Jeep, not a space ship. Plus the process took over an hour for what should have been no more than 15-20 minutes. Lesson learned. read more

Beware of their deceptive practices! My sister dropped off her car for full set tire installation. The man at the counter told her that the total price would be $816.75. When it was asked, why so much, they said it was the cost of installation, recycling fee, shop fee, and additional charges that he couldn't explain; however, he could "take it down by $50", telling her it would then be $750. It was pointed out that installation was noted to be free on their website with the purchase of 4 tires, which the man conveniently "forgot" as a result the total would then be $735. The range and multiple changes in price was unsettling, so I looked to purchase what was needed for her car online. The total was $716.75. I tried to call corporate to check exact what was captured in the charges, but their lines have not been set up to deal with customers. I called the location and asked why the discrepancy. Again they said shop fees and recycling fees. After arguing with them that it doesn't make since why I would be able to pay the price online, they said that $716.75 would include everything. There was no call that the car was done. My sister called in to hear that the mechanic is doing a complimentary maintenance inspection. Upon arrival to the shop, the man ran through what additional things she may need because it is a safety hazard, like needing to change the cabin area filter. When asked to just ring up the total for what was done, they rang up $725 and some change. I had to put point again that if that was the case, my sister would just pay online. It made no sense to be able to pay the total online then come to the shop to be told you need to pay again! Finally, they said that they would match. Do your research, double check, and don't get scammed! There was already a class action lawsuit against Pepboys for this deceptive practices! read more

A tale of two auto repair shops, one experience at each. I normally have all my service done at the Acura dealer, where I bought my car. However, for various reasons I chose to have my car inspected at Virginia Tire and Auto (VTA) in Falls Church and to have a trailer hitch installed at Pep Boys, in Annandale. I was very impressed with VTA. The waiting area and shop were clean (and I mean spotless) and the staff was both courteous and professional. I arrived about 15 minutes before they opened and they took me right away. I can't say much about the cost because that is fixed by the state. When I called VTA about installing a trailer hitch I bought they said it would be at their normal hourly rate, $119, and take about an hour. I called a few more places and Pep Boys said it would be $50. I made an appointment for 8 AM, which is when they open. The Pep Boys shop was more like would I would expect. They opened late, the guy at the counter, while friendly, seemed a bit confused. The shop and waiting area was dirty and dingy. While I was waiting, I overheard a conversation they were having with another customer who had been in previously for an oil change and had all the oil leak out because they didn't tighten down the filter. I hear that running a car with no oil can be a bad thing. I just sat there and kept telling myself there wasn't much damage they could do by installing a trailer hitch and that I was saving a bit over going to VTA. When I went to check out I saw why I saved so much. The $50 installation is for when you buy a hitch from them and they had included $200 on my bill for the hitch. When I pointed out that I brought in my own the manager paused for a moment before adjusting my bill to include just the promised installation cost. I give him credit for doing that without any arguments. Given my experiences (and what happened to the poor, oil-less lady) I'll be going back to VTA and leaving Pep Boys to people who don't read/believe this review. read more

I came 5 min before my appointment and around 8:15 am, my car was at service bay, but I don't know how, my car was ready at 10:40 am ; more than two hours and half for an oil change with appointment.......that was last week. Two words. RIP OFF. Another two words. SUCK IT. I had to have my car towed here because the battery died. Not only did they charge for a no-start service check for $100, which HELLO, the battery is dead, that's why it's not starting... but then they tried to tell me I needed my spark plugs changed, my fuel injector cleaned and all this other stuff, which would've cost over $400. When my cousin, who has taken a number of auto mechanic classes, looked at my car. He bought 4 spark plugs which cost a total of $34 and replaced them for me, which took MAYBE 45 mins. Funny part is... as soon as he opened the hood he could tell that they didn't even LOOK at my spark plugs. Only one actually needed to be replaced. They basically looked online and saw what USUALLY needs to be replaced at that mileage and told me that. A bottle of fuel injector cleaner cost like $5. I will never take my car here. The only thing it's good for is auto parts. Shameful cause Pep Boys started out of Philly! I would never get my car serviced here again. read more

These guys are quick, honest, and cheap. While the customer service model is seemingly completely ad hoc and you are often dealing directly with the technicians, you (and your wallet) won't feel the sliminess that you might otherwise get with more polished (or greedier) operations. I like that I can ask for something to be replaced and it just happens, there isn't a series of upsales or other emergency problems with the car that were discovered freelance on their part. Finally, the place is more manageable if you get in early. You could certainly find far more wretched hives of scum and villainy in Northern Virginia. read more

I have been going to Pep Boys for many many years. Since I lived in California and Colorado every experience I have had with this establishment has been positive. The main reason I have gone back time after time is that, outside of the great price point, is the willingness to help customers that need assistance. I remember going to Pep Boys to buy a part for my car and when I asked the sales guy a question abut how to put it in, he just came out and put it in for me. THAT is service. And I'll never forget it. That is where my loyalty lies. Today, I had my car serviced - new tires which I ordered online (easiest process ever - which costco couldn't seem to get right), and not only did the guys top off my fluids and make sure I knew the tires I ordered were different from the tires I already had on the car, but they checked out a minor issue I had and hooked that up as well. Went there a week ago for a blown water pump and belt for my BMW X5. The service was good and the guy at the desk knew BMWs since he has one. They fixed the car in a day or so and had it back to us without issue - it''s working great. I used a warranty company that paid for the tow, water pump and the labor to replace it. However the ONLY issue I had with this entire interaction is they charged me labor to replace the fan-belt. Removing the fan-belt is a consequence of removing the pump thus it's PART of the process and included in the labor cost, even in the mechanics labor charge book. IE charge 3 hrs labor to replace the water pump then they give the process with includes removal of the fan-belt(s). Other than that I was quite happy with the repair and service and will go back. read more

Well, I can see from other reviews that some people clearly don't care for this place. Luckily, my experience was a little different. I had just had work done on my vehicle and then my service engine soon light came on. I stopped in to have them scan my car since I don't have a scan tool and it came back with a mass airflow sensor. When I went over to ask someone about ordering the part they were very helpful. They looked it up, saw it wasn't in stock (in any store) but let me know they can order it and it would be $166. I ordered the part from Amazon for $40 and it works great! That being said, the same person helped me grab a fuel filter and some other items I needed. Very nice guy, great customer service. The one problem I did have was that I purchased a JVC stereo and a harness for my car and a JVC stereo and it was the wrong plug for JVC. I called the store and the guy checked the system and they didn't carry the harness that worked with newer JVC's. Seriously? You sell a stereo but the wrong harness. The guy told me to just go ahead and bring everything back but I spliced the harness that came with the system to the harness I purchased (I cut the plug off the harness for the older JVC stereos). Everything works great. The experience I had with customer service was great. Prices were on par with what I would expect with the exception of the Mass Airflow Sensor. read more

If you have an appointment you still have to wait over 2 1/2 hours the supervisor Fabio will tell you this happen but it's okay like you dont have a life and you dont need your car I would never recommend this place to anyone not even an enemy. Would give zero stars to their service department if possible. 1) Called to schedule service and spent a long time on the phone confirming parts and work for the next day. 2) Brought in car slightly early for 1 pm work. Again, reviewed all the work and confirmed they had the parts(window regulator for electric window) 3) Never heard back from them so called at 6 PM 4) They decided after reviewing the work twice and confirming they had the part in stock that they could not do the work, but never called me to tell me. 5) After I called to check in, they said the work order had been voided out and they had never touched the car. My friend noticed that my brakes were making a grinding noise. Being near Thanksgiving and having plans to drive to Florida, I made an appointment for when they open to get it fixed. First there was no one at the service department when they opened. There were two people working the counter but no technicians. After a few minutes a technician showed up. This may just be me but I expect a business to be open and ready for business by their posted hours. I imagine that most businesses schedule employees to arrive prior to their actual hours. Having said this it may also have been a fluke. About an hour after they opened I was told that I needed new rotors and pads on the back. The person was very pleasant and even walked me out to the car to show and explain the problem. I okay the repair. An hour later I went to the person at the desk about the status. He informed me that they didn't have all theparts and they had to send for the parts. Not a problem I realize they're not a dealership and understand things like this happen. 4 hours 40 minutes later. I was told that they are very sorry for the wait. The part was suppose to be here two hours ago and they would give me 10% off and the parts are here. I won't be coming back here unless there are problems with the service i received. I recommend anyone planning to have service here done to call ahead of time to make sure the parts are available although I don't know if it would make a coherence after reading some other reviews. Also bring something to entertain yourself. Think I would have fine crazy without my phone and laptop. read more

This review has nothing to do with customer service because Jairo was once again very professional. I got my front and back brake pads fixed last week and they have been squeaking nonstop since then. I brought them back today and they said there was nothing wrong with my brakes and offered me to ride with the mechanic. I asked the mechanic if I could drive so he could take the time to really listen. I slow down before coming to a complete stop and he said "oh you can hear it when you slow to stop" then I asked what it could be from and his response was it was my brake pads. I asked how if I just got them replaced last week and he said because you bought our cheapest brake pad. Ummm I'm sorry! First of all, I was never offered or told that there were different brake pads options and two your cheaper brake pads should not only last one week!! You guys are charging people $800+ for it make sure they're actually getting what they come in for.
