I'm going to make this very objective. 1. I find Castrol oil Pep Boys is selling on their official eBay store. Price is $6.99/QT. Here is the link: (Link is no longer valid, the price has been changed as of 2/17/17) 2. I go into the Burbank Pep Boys store, and find the same oil for $9.99/QT. 3. I politely, ask the manager at the check stand if they would price match THEIR OWN prices for the oil. His response, "We only price-match legitimate stores, not eBay". I explained to him, politely, that those were their own prices, and they would only be matching their own advertised price. He seemed very confused by the whole idea and very abruptly said no. I spent most of my life shopping at Pep Boys, but this location has left a bitter taste in my mouth. Both their procedures and shortness with the customer make me feel Pep Boys is no longer the store I grew up with. DO NOT go there! they told me I needed a new front end strut. I later took the wheel off and found my brake caliper was LOOSE! That's the hydraulic clamp that stops the wheel. It was missing a bolt and it was hanging on by one other loose bolt. I may not be a car pro but even I could see the strut was intact. When I mentioned that his service department was rated very low by YELP, the assistant MGR shrugged and muttered that people are still coming in. Let me get this straight!? Beware of this place when it comes to auto repairs. Long story short... they basically tried to rip me off by telling me my alternator needed replacing, when I now know that it's just fine. Detailed version... I went there recently when my car batttery seemed to be dead. The main reason I went to Pep Boys is because I had purchased my battery from them years ago, and luckily still had the receipt. That got me about 50% off the replacement battery, however the mechanics then told me I also had a problem with my alternator. They showed me their little testing machine and the reading said "no charge" - so basically they told me I needed a new alternator that would cost like $250. They said if I didn't replace it, my new battery would last maybe a day at most and could be damaged. Oldest trick in the book, right? Not convinced and wanting a second opinion & quote in case I did need to replace it, I decided to go over to Burbank Auto Doctors where I get my oil changed. They tested it out, and were basically like "well we'd love to sell you an alternator but yours is working just fine". Sure enough, it's been about 2 weeks now and I have not had a single problem since, so obviously there is no issue with the alternator. My advice... use Pep Boys to buy parts, but if you need something repaired, take it elsewhere. The guys are Burbank Auto Doctors seem much more honest... might cost a little more, but I don't think they'll try to rip you off. On top of that, the Pep Boys service was slow, unfriendly, and down-right annoying. This place sucks! read more

They waited for me to arrive, patched up the tire super quick and I was on my way. They stayed past closing time to patch my tire. To give this place even one star is saying too much, I had my jeep taken here to get the catalytic converter fixed as well as an AC compressor. They "fixed" both. I had to bring my car back the next day to get both replaced again because of malfunction on their installation. This was a Wednesday morning and I had work for three more days, so therefore I needed to get a rental for the next three days. When I returned to pick up my car, they refused to pay for the rental that I needed to get because of THEIR mistake. They gave me a 50$ discount on the brake job I needed....which was 310$ not to mention my rental for the three days costing 250$ they said they couldn't do anything more to help even though I was a repeat customer(paid at least 4000$ over the last year and a half). I will NEVER go here again, and I would not recommend it at all, hiring a homeless man to fix your car is a better option than taking it to this rip off piece of sh*t "mechanic". read more

Shady shady place, especially the smog technician that will find a way to fail your smog check inspection. I brought my car for a smog check with no warning lights on the dashboard, and surely after the smog check was done, the technician failed the "visual inspection". He said the dash needed to show a check engine on and then off, which is weird, it always passed inspection before and I only got that light he refers to on when I first changed the high voltage battery on my Prius. I started my car to drive home and surely an "airbag" light is on the dashboard, which happened right there during their work. In all my years of driving this car, this light has never been on. I talked to the supervisor, Arthur and he denied any wrong doing, of course. In addition to that he had a defiant attitude, kind of like "prove it" or "it's your problem". This is what I suspect: if you are not driving a brand new car, they will mess up your car so you fix your cars with them. I was quoted about $300 to fix the mysterious "light bulb" issue on the dash that they claim is one of the problems they created. They don't work on airbags, so I'm not sure what the technician pull to make it appear on the dashboard, but I'll find out when I take the car to another shop. read more

This place is a dirty joke. Came in for battery change installation. Appointment at 9 am. Left around 11 am. Seriously for a battery change. I even went up there and said you know what just give me the goddamn battery and I'll change it myself I'll bring the old one back in 5 minutes. got it all we can't do that legally obligated to do it blah blah blah blah blah my God they were not even busy I like five people just walking around the sales floor one guy working on the cars and like I don't get it my car was like the only one up to there. not to mention everybody in there is flow super unfriendly and I always do I contact just walk the other way when they see you coming. And the waiting area oh my God it smells it's hot the complimentary coffee looks gross as hell it's just a complete mess in there. I don't get it if they install a battery yourself you get a $15 discount as opposed to just buy the battery and leaving. That makes no sense. If I would have known I just pay the extra 15 bucks and just do it myself. also an air filter for my car looks like super old about $37 that's the cheapest one. I went in last week to get an oil change. I had a coupon for $17.99. It was to expire on 1/8/17. I was told the service might take two hours, and I did not have the time to wait that day. I made an appointment for Tuesday, 1/10/17. Then, I realized that the coupon would expire by then and said that I would have to come back another time. The employee said it would be okay to delay the coupon, that he would honor it, and he would put a note on the appointment sheet. When I came in today, the employee (a different man named Jack) would not honor the coupon. We have done business with this Pep Boys for many years, but no more. Not good public relations. Unfortunately have to agree with the negative reviews-this business is highly unprofessional and inaccurate. They overcharged me for oil, (charged for 5, gave me 4, so I was running a quart low). They did not fix the tire they charged me to fix(was leaking from the same day they 'fixed the leak"), The "two nails" they found in my left rear tire don't exist. it's actually a piece of scrap metal. ( I especially love the way the rep used his fingers to indicate the angles of the two nails) The "diagnosis" of the "wheel bearings being loose" is actually impossible for them to have come to, in the amount of time they spent. The actual problem is the rear shoes. The "normal wear" on my tires was inaccurate. There is uneven wear on my front left tire that Pep Boys did not find. They may have replaced the brake light which needed to be replaced, but they left metal in the frame of the car, and my rear door wouldn't open. There may be a rep that is friendly, but there are just as many with an air of ego, and incompetence. After I asked them to please just give me my car back (on the second visit, to hopefully correct the first visit), I drove off with the newly acquired sound of metal scraping metal. read more

Long story short: I paid for two new tires. They gave me one. I went here because I blew a tire due to my own idiocy and it was the closest place. I was going on a long trip the next day so I went ahead and bought two tires because my donut was just dead to the world and I figured I'd keep the good one as my spare, which I told them. They called me to pick up like four minutes before they closed, and chased me out as soon as they gave me the keys, so it was only when I left I realized they didn't give me back my good tire. I went back the next morning and waited a hundred years and when they produced it, it had a huge tear in it. They told me the other one, the one I had ruined, was in even worse shape. I had NO IDEA how I'd done that--I blew the one tire because I am a master of parallel parking, so in other words I hit a curb and the other one wouldn't have been affected by the incident, but whatever. I just left. Then 300 miles down the road my tires start vibrating once I go past 50. I pull over to check it out and I realize that they rotated my tires around a bunch but only one was new. I'm 300 miles away at this point so I can't just go back but you know...you know...I'm just really mad. Admittedly I probably should've checked to make sure they gave me two new tires but the thought that they wouldn't honestly never occurred to me until I deduced that they hadn't. My favorite part of this story is I may never have noticed if they'd even put the tires on right, so way to go, guys, your shoddy work spoiled your con. ETA: They're full of it if they tell you that they're gonna solve the problem on Yelp. Don't believe that crap. They won't. I tried talking to them multiple times to get the money refunded for my nonexistent tire--I didn't even try to get them to compensate me for the fact that they lied to me multiple times, as perhaps I should have--and I couldn't even get that. It's useless. Eventually we had to stop the payment because they flat wouldn't even call us back about it, so they're either incompetent idiots, total scam artists, or both. read more

This place is terrible. Their customer service is awful. I have had two terrible experiences here. The first time I needed new tires and my alignment done they gave me an estimated time for an hour to get it done, I came back in in a hour and they hadn't even looked at my car or started. It ended up taking two days for something that they said would be done in an hour. Their communication is awful. The second time I came in to get a new tire. They told me once again that it would be done within the hour. It was not and they hadn't even looked and it or started it. Then it took another two hours for them to tell me I had a flat tire, like no shit that is why I came in. No solution was made and I could tell they didn't care. Would give no stars if I could.....had a water pump installed for over $360.00. Most of the water drained out including the anti freeze I paid for over night after I took the car home. I returned the car back to PB and they checked it out and told me they couldn't find a problem. Six months later the pump is leaking bad....since then I found a good local mechanic and had the pump replaced..... Not sure if Pep Boys put in a bad pump or patched the old one.... I called to see if there was a product to remove paint off my rear bumper. I talked to Alex on the phone and he was very informative and suggested that I come in so he could look at my car. He was very friendly and suggested on a solution which may remove most of the paint from my car. It didn't come out that well so he went back into the store and started to use another product in hopes of that one doing a better job. IT WORKED!! He spent at least 10 minutes trying to take the paint off and was very helpful. THANKS ALEX!! read more

I hope I could give this place zero star! 3.3 years ago we bought a car battery here. The battery started to fail last month so we took it to the store for a battery change. The battery comes with 3year/96 months warranty. Since this battery just passed three year free replacement warranty so we asked for 96 month pro-rata warranty. They tested it and claimed the battery is still good and recharged it for us. Then we continued to used it for about a month. But yesterday the battery started to fail again! We took the battery back to this store and told them the situation. They tested the battery again and insisted the battery has no problem and refused to give us pro-rata warranty. They started to say maybe our alternator is bad and it will cost us about 90 bucks to diagnose our car. We then decide to drive to another pep boy to get another opinion. This time the guy in another pep boys tested our battery and said our battery CANNOT HOLD THE CHARGE ANYMORE . Then we bought a new battery there and got a good discount. We saved $40 for a new one. Our car runs great since then. This makes me feel the people who work at pep boys on Olive Ave Burbank are not very honest! (PS: one time we had a tire change there and it took 5 HOURS to change a tire for us!) They really should improve their service there!!! read more

This location is a Smog Test and Repair station. I would highly advise against using them for that, nor would I go to any Pep Boys. The reason is that they will charge you a flat rate $130.00 fee to diagnose that is not applied to any work that is needed. Furthermore, at this particular location, they gave me a long list of issues that they recommended I fix. I filed a complaint that this was no diagnosis at all, but rather a list of possible problems. Regarding the diagnosis fee, some independent shops will not charge at all for this while others will apply the fee to the work needed. read more

Came in last night after hitting a curb really hard to check if my Flex was in alignment. It was late and they, understandably, were trying to finish up for the night, but when I told them I had to leave on a road trip the next morning (today) with a 94-year-old, their tech Steven took the time to inspect the tires and drive the car around the property to check if it would veer. I purchased tires from Tire Rack and had them shipped to this Pep Boys. Mount and balance is $95 and they put one of my tires on backwards. The inside of the tire is on the outside on one of the wheels. The tires are Pilot Super Sport, which have asymmetrical tread that needs to be facing the correct way. Now I have to go back and have them redo one tire. Pretty obvious mistake. read more
