Consistent poor customer service all around- first the cashier/key clerk ask if I needed something (after I stood there for 2 minutes waiting for her and asked me in a tone as if I was bothering her). I told her my intention. She pointed me to service clerk. Thinking it was easy- gave clerk my auto maker, year, type of bulb...with correct info- she showed me the wrong bulb to buy (found out when I got home). Then I asked if someone could help me install or showed me- Went to a service guy- he first says 10 bucks to change. so I asked to show me. He took a look at my car- then said 24.99 for a bulb that was only 4.99+tax. So now i have a useless bulb and worse experience of customer service all around. will travel much farther next time than my neighborhood pepboys that I thought might have been helpful. read more

One day i brought my gf's car here for an oil change, so i pulled up here on the side where they do there service, so i parked on the neutral area. Walked in toward the service desk inside the store, and saw an employee with his back turned, so i stood there for awhile waiting for attention, then he turns around saying "whatcha want?!?!" i was like are you kidding me? really? i want to get my oil changed done thats it! So i didn't want to cause a scene it's my day off, i want to get this off my list of choirs for the day. So right after paperwork was done for the vehicle, i was told that it maybe done in within an hour, i was like that's fine. I kinda had a funny feeling about this because of the bad impression i got from this guy in the first place, but anyways it was lunch time i went to walk all the way to pho '77 while i wait for the oil change service. After lunch got back here at pep boys went to the service desk, this time it was the service manager that helped me, he went to get my car keys while waiting, the manager said something to the guy who helped me earlier, the manager told him "see i'm fast" the dude kept quite and probably felt like sh*t LOL !!!! , the manager seemed cocky about something, he told the customer before me about something about making excuses in a sarcastic way, LOL !!!! The next day i get a call from my gf from her work and she tells me that she noticed that her car is leaking oil, i was like really!?!?! the only way to take care of it was take the car to a nearby auto shop near her work, well they found out that pep boys reused the old oil filter ring that caused the oil leak. How disappointing and i was distraught !!! The day after, my gf took her car back to this pep boys location and explained everything to the service manager about the oil leaking problem, the manager understood and was willing to offer a full refund. Bad experience from beginning to end, would not come back here for staff issues and half-aZZ work done here i'm discouraged! read more

I needed something to clean the lens of my headlights, and the blade on one of my windshield wipers has worn out. So apparently I had a mission when I got here. I asked a worker there to double check if I picked out the right blade. I also asked if I could return it if it didn't fit, she said yes. But she made one great suggestion. She said that they can install the blade for me for free if I just drive up their service window at the side of the building. Feeling very grateful...I did just what she suggested. It took the guy less than 5 seconds to install it, and he didn't make me feel like a dunderhead for doing it for me! Very nice. read more

The service here varies...5/6 times, I came here it was completely horrible. 1/6 was only horrible...not completely....They honestly tell me like 30 minutes each time for oil change and believe me...I wait for 1.5 to 2 hours. And the staff here sometimes move as fast as turtle or snails. I even come when they first open and takes forever. Very dissapointing...Avoid this Pepboys service. Mike the Pokemon Trainer/Repairman I had a pretty awesome experience here the other day when I came in to do a routine oil change. After I pulled up for a walk in service, Mike the Service Manager promptly greeted me and asked me if I could wait a few minutes while they tend to the people that came before me. He came back shortly and started writing up the info for my car. He noticed my plate said 'APM' and asked if I played pokemon and who Aipom was. I LOL'd and said yes. After the oil change, he gave me the leftover oil and explained to me oil should stay at a certain levels preventing overflowing or having too little oil. That was great cause some other places would've kept the remaining oil to use for someone else. I like that I got everything I paid for. After I left, I found out Mike's favorite pokemon is Ponyta, he's been with Pep Boys for over 20 years and that he genuinely loves his job and enjoys what he does. Pep Boys might not be the cheapest solution out there for car repairs and accessories, but it's friendly employees like Mike that makes everything worth it. read more

Warning! Auto repair scammers! I had the suspension and steering completely redone on my car at another shop. Of course, the alignment is way out when you do this so when the rebuild was done I brought the car in to this Pep Boys for an alignment. After the car was on the alignment rack for about 30 minutes the shop manager told me that I was going to need a special shim kit, parts and instal would be around $220, alignment another $80. I asked him why and he was pretty vague but said that it was way off. His tech came over and told me the alignment was way off and tried to convince me I had been in some sort of accident, that the right side of the vehicle must have been seriously hit. I explained to them that the car drove fine that morning, I had just had the suspension and steering rebuilt and now it is off, and that's the reason. They wouldn't have it and tried to convince me I was in an accident. Next morning I took it to Just Tires, 50 minutes on the alignment rack, $79 and its straight as can be. No "shim kit" parts or additional labor. Just a standard alignment, the guy told me the toe angle was really off, not a problem, simple adjustment. Oh, also, Pep Boys told me I needed 4 new tires. Just Tires checked them and said my back two need to be replaced but the front two were in good condition at 60% tread. Pep Boys scammers! So cliche for a repair shop! I'll give them the benefit of the doubt though- maybe they just don't know what they're doing. read more

Just returned from Pep Boys after getting 4 new ties, an oil change and a 4 wheel alignment. The reason I went here was due to the "Buy 3 Tires, Get One Free" promotion. I priced my tires (265/70/18) with other shops and Pep Boys were definitely in line with the other shops around Cerritos. So I know that they did not jack up the prices individually and then rebate the price for the 4th tire. The only asterisk for the promotion is that you had to purchase the road hazard warranty at $14.49 a tire. Even including that into the mix, you still come out ahead due to the rebate, and you get road hazard warranty. The service adviser did his job correctly. He just basically asked for my info and the services I wanted. He didn't offer me any discount for getting 3 services done at the same time. (I came home after picking up my car and noticed that there was a $10 off coupon for wheel alignments --- doh!!!) Note to self --- always go online prior to purchasing anything. The time promised was 11:00am but they didn't complete my car until 11:35am. Not bad, but also not excellent either. It wasn't like I was in a rush (I had my wife pick me up from Pep Boys after the order was written), but I think they should overestimate the time so that they can beat it. I know it sounds stupid, but why paint yourself in a corner by promising a time that you cannot deliver? I can understand if I was in a rush so that they can get my business, but there was no need to underestimate the promised time. Now if they had told me that it would be ready by 12:00pm and then called me at 11:35am, it would have exceeded my expectations.... In the service industry, it's all about beating your customers' expectations. So they installed the tires and performed the other services as promised --- you may be asking why I am giving them 4 stars and not 5? I deducted 1 star for the rebate hassle. Why not just give me an instant rebate on the 4th tire instead of making me send in the rebate form and a copy of the receipt? Rebates are so 1990s. This is my 500th Review! In any case... I've never had to come in when the light goes on, thankfully, however, I do go here to get extra lights to light the light that would normally light up when there is a problem. Probably the main thing I purchase at this Pep Boys are light bulbs for the car. They have the nifty computer that helps you look up the compatible light bulb that would go with your make and model. The people who work here are very helpful as well. In all honesty, there's never a big line to pay here. This location knows that demand is a steady trickle and mans the register accordingly with just one person. The repair garages have more activity, however, so I'm presuming you may have to take a number if you actually bring in your car for service. I would just recommend to Pep Boys to possibly consider remodeling the interior of the main store to make it more modern and state-of-the-art. I've gone here with friends who needed other stuff done, like purchase new windshield wipers. The staff was helpful enough to install the new wipers and take away the old ones right there in the parking lot. Though the employees may look like they won't help, it really surprises me to see them offer assistance and actually carry it out. This location has been here in Artesia forever and I hope that it continues to persist for just as long...there just aren't that many around anymore. read more

My car battery died today and by the time I was able to take it in, it was around 6pm. I needed it replaced fast and Ramon was so helpful. He replaced it all by himself and it only took about 15 minutes! I drove away with a shiny new battery that, in total (battery, labor, parts), cost $149.03 He informed me that they're having a 4 for the price of 3 sale THIS MONTH ONLY (November 2014) and that the cost to replace my 4 very worn tires is around $340 and then there's a $50 mail-in rebate so it would only be around $290 for FOUR NEW TIRES! I had a blow out.on the 91 fwy. We found out that are other rear tire was bad and we had no place to go. So I got on a app. on my Ipad. I fould Pep Boys location that was open and not too far from me. I called and got a quote over the phone. We arrived there and a young man with a pony tail but well groomed name oscar helped my wife and I. He gave us good information on types of tires and recommended about a alignment. Jessie a service lead helped us as well. He came and made sure that the service got done. We had arrived a hour or so before closing. I don't know what the guy who did the work on my car but he did a great job. He stayed over time and they were closing but they didn't rush us and were very friendly and helpful. Only thing that bothered me was a young woman with brown hair and blond streaks in it, who looked like a manager. She was walking around the store with a slight attitude. Never change your tire at pep boy , they go by the depth of the tire worn out but not by the tire company mileage guarantee. I bought 4 new tires & hazard insurance for $458.17 on 2/26/2011 for my son(curtis Yu)'s car. The mileage was 107935. His car has one flat tire, he went to pep boy at artesia to have it fixed. The technician told him it can not fixed, but need buy one new tire. He only give $10 more dollars credit back to us. I asked the tech the tire has 75,000 miles warranty. He told me pep boy rule only goes by the depth of the tires it worn out. I questioned what is mean 75,000 miles guarantee? I told hime costco gives credit back by the tires mileage. He told me he worked for costco before. I then complained to the manager, he can not do anything but saying it is pep boy policy goes by the depth to give back credit. I told hime I will go to yelp and let other people know the pep boy is not doing the correct thing . I then went to costco bought 4new tires paid $550. But I was happy with them since the give my tires warranty by mileage ,only hazard insurance by depth of tires worn out which I understand. Pep boy did not explain customer the different & try to have people to buy new tire(he did not even mention normally you need to buy 2 tires to balance the car). I take pride in being a not-so-girly-girl... I can start a fire, pitch a tent faster than you can figure out what those loops and string are for, and I'm not high maintenance. But when it comes to things of machinery, I'll admit I'm at a loss. My solution: take it to one of the boys. In this case, take it to the Pep Boys! I've been coming here over the years with various minor vehicle woes - tires, busted headlight, steering trouble, etc.etc. Today my car picked the windshield wipers as its weapon of choice to annoy me. It was pouring today and I found out that my blades had gone to the dumps and were leaving streaks of unwiped glass so I could barely see anything. They helped me find the ones I needed (and a buy one get one free deal for the silicone ones!) and the guy who was helping me out even ran out into the rain for me and installed those babies like it was nothing! They're always willing to help me install and repair minor things for free and even try to teach me so I can do it myself next time. -1 star for some of their staff out in the back, though. It was a long, long wait at the small space area with metal chairs. Hours passed by but nobody notify that it was finished. I buy my Mobile 1 at Costco, pick up my Toyota air filter at the local Toyota dealership (for Tundras you should ALWAYS use factory filters due to leakage - you're welcome) They charge $20 to change my oil AND they rotate my tires for FREEEEEEEEEE! Okay, it does take at least an hour maybe 2 :( The staff also takes a hair pulling long time just to get my info into the system and get me on my way...but the FREEEEEEE tire rotation and $20 oil change makes up for it. What to expect: 1) Extremely cool, nice, BUT s...l...o...w....moving employees... 2) Attempt at up selling - air filters, belts, whatever. Expect it. 3) If you haver a little patience you shall be rewarded with a full service oil change for $20. read more

Oh man, do not deal with Chaalaay in the service station - especially on warranties - he will make you dig up receipts from your old bank statements; give you a hard time - make you look like you are scamming pepboys even though they know their products such as batteries that have a date stamp in them - like a bought the battery at a junk yard.... He even gave the retail sales clerks a hard time after which these helpful ladies said that is he in indeed "lazy" to research. The burden of proof is with customers even though the proof is plain to see... So disappointed - I have spent almost $2k in service at this place but this guy treated me like a scammer. And I believe he knows us. Having a bad day for him is not an excuse as I had a bad day myself when I had a dead battery - needs alternator change - oil change - belt change. Had a suspected nail in my tire and needed someone to repair it around 5pm. Everyone was closed at 5 on a Sat and learned that Pep Boys closed at 8pm. Called to get pricing and was told that it would be $20 to repair it if not a Pep Boys reward member which I wasn't and it was told it would take about 30 minutes. Brought it in, spoke to Augusto (guy on the floor) and confirmed that it would be $20 for the repair if the nail wasn't in the side walls or puncture was at an odd angle. 10 minutes I was notified that the nail was in the middle and it was repairable. I gave the green light to repair. 15 minutes later, I was givin the paperwork in the waiting room and started walking towards the cashier to pay but was simply given the keys and said "it was taken care of" and there was no charge. I was flabbergasted and didn't know what to say. I thanked Augusto about 5 thousand times and went home with a smile on my face. Great customer service!!! Waited over 2 hours for them to say it was the wrong part. I asked them what would be the correct part that would fit, waited 5 days for them to order it. What in the world has happened to customer service these days. It appears to be non-existent in almost every industry, including the automotive industry at Pep Boys. I went there this afternoon for the very simple task of getting a sun shade for my car. I found one that appeared to be good value for 19.99. As I am waiting in line for the next available cashier, I couldn't help but overhear the conversation that the customer ahead of me was having with the Pep Boys employee that was helping him. He was basically returning a head lamp the burned out as he was installing it in his car. The Pep Boys employee said "this has never happened before, let me call my manager over". They ended up eventually giving him a replacement bulb but not after long debate about how this scenario has never occurred and the possibility of the customer just completely installing the replacement bulb incorrectly. Although they weren't helping me, I just found that to be an example of extremely poor service. Now back to my experience, as I was checking out to purchase my $19 sunshade the manager who was ringing me up said $30. Without thinking about it I just put my card in the card reader and then did a double take. I asked her, how much the sunshade was and she said 29.99 and then I pointed out the price tag that said $19 and she just rolls her eyes as if she was annoyed that she would have to cancel the previous transaction and ring me up again. No apologies for almost charging me double, no thank you, nothing. In the meantime, as I am getting rung up the other employee is still going off on how the other customer installed the light bulb incorrectly to the manager while she was trying to ring me up.
