I had a blow out.on the 91 fwy. We found out that are other rear tire was bad and we had no place to go. So I got on a app. on my Ipad. I fould Pep Boys location that was open and not too far from me. I called and got a quote over the phone. We arrived there and a young man with a pony tail but well groomed name oscar helped my wife and I. He gave us good information on types of tires and recommended about a alignment. Jessie a service lead helped us as well. He came and made sure that the service got done. We had arrived a hour or so before closing. I don't know what the guy who did the work on my car but he did a great job. He stayed over time and they were closing but they didn't rush us and were very friendly and helpful. Only thing that bothered me was a young woman with brown hair and blond streaks in it, who looked like a manager. She was walking around the store with a slight attitude. Are you tired of BORING oil changes? Do you wish you had some PEP in your car service? If so, you should go to PEP boys! They aren't called that for nothing! Cruz was very entertaining in his intake of my car for the service. I learned that I have a 3.5 liter engine (I think) and that no, Pep Boys will NOT charge you for a service that you request but turns out is unneeded (like tire patch/repair - I had low air in one of my tires). This is good. I do not enjoy being charged for a service I don't need (and don't get). The best part - they close at 6pm on Sunday and I was late ... they even called me ... but I got there around 6:05 and they were still waiting for me. Other places may have just locked up shop and fled at 6:01 (in which case, what a different review this would be), but not Pep Boys! Also - I have come here before for flat repairs/tire checks which even when it turns out the tires are just low without need for repair, no charge. They will fill up your tires and send you on your way, without any annoyed attitude/rolling of the eyes. Lastly, after my oil change, I got a coupon for a free tire rotation at the next oil change. Whoo hoo!! Only downside: you have to wait. I had to drop off my car for 3 hours for the oil change. Also, they are quite busy so if you are asking for tire service or even just waiting for someone to talk to, it may take a while. read more

Today I needed a special order part and the crew at the back in the parts dept. were very helpful and patient. One star off because today when I went to pay for the part at the front cashier, there was no one at the register and several people in line looking very impatient and angry (and rightly so). I also go get oil change from time to time from here when I'm in a hurry - I normally go elsewhere. It's not my first time getting an oil change, and I always have employees who never look me in the eye, and seems like they do not want to be there, as if it's a burden to answer my questions/help me. I purchased a new car battery from Pepboys. One day my car wouldn't start so I called AAA to get a battery boost. After they ran some diagnostics they tell me my battery is in really bad shape and to have it replaced as soon as possible. With my battery still under warranty with a few days left before the warranty expires, Pepboys runs a diagnostic test of their own and tell me my battery is perfectly fine and that they won't replace it. Two days later my battery is dead again and conveniently for them now my warranty has expired. Screw this place. I brought my BMW here because my battery had died. We jump started it, and the car was making a squealing noise. Took my car here because it was down the street and we were desperate. The dude said I had to change my battery and also change out my belt completely for $600+. Only a week later, I got a notification on my car saying "battery discharging while stopped". Brought my car back and the same man that helped me the week prior gave me a call and said I needed to change my alternator and also change my belt. Legit tried to charge me $1140. I said what the flying fuck?! You just changed my belt last week. He said oh ok, that'll be $750 for the alternator then. F that! I knew something was fishy when he wanted to charge me to do the exact same thing he just did last week. I took the car to a family friend's shop, who was shocked at how much I paid for a new belt and battery. Charged me $40 to take care of my car. I have been here once before and they were awesome; however, I took my car here a few days ago because my coolant has been leaking and I needed a new battery. The original quote was a little over $200 For the battery, hose and labor, but a couple hours later I get a call saying I have a crack in my radiator as well as leaks in the hose. Now my price is about $1500. The last two days i have checked and my coolant is still empty each morning, so $1300 more than originally thought and my problem still isn't fixed, not to mention the waste of time and stress. So I decided to give this place a try as it would save me money and the headache of going through the dealership. BIG MISTAKE!!! The services that I had needed dealt with brakes only. When we dropped the car the brakes were still manageable and I could safely drive and brake normally. After all the services done, the brakes did not work. The brakes were either detached or broke which was not fully explained well to us of what exactly happened. That was the last and only time I came back to this place. The manager/supervisor in charge of the mechanics should take the time to fully check their work and to make sure that the cars are thoroughly safe before returning it to the customer. Came in for a standard oil change and was helped by this guy with tattoos (how progressive of a major chain to allow that I'm all for it!) he legit looked like an older hipster with a cool mustache and everything. He was super chill and even signed me up for their free rewards program and saving me money on my oil change. The wait time was quoted for an hour so I went across the street for a leisurely walk at Artesia park but they called me twenty mins after and said it was all done. The mechanic who most likely did the work even gave me a thankful wave at me as I was getting in my car. I say they are super honest here and don't try to upsell or trick you into getting anything you don't need. Definitely getting my oil changed here from now on. This place is slower than DMV. I purchased a battery and made an appointment online for a battery installation since they were offering that service for free. I called the day of my appointment to see if I can come in earlier for the battery installation which they clearly confirmed. I went in there and I was told I will be the next person to get serviced and it was going to take approximately an hour for it to complete. At this point, I thought I would wait thinking it should take about 30min or so and I was next in line for the service. I waited an hour and my car is still parked in the parking lot. I told one of the representatives that I've been sitting here for an hour and asked when my battery will be replaced. He said my car is going in now and it will take an hour. SERIOUSLY, one hour for a battery change???????? If I knew I was going to spend 2.5 hrs in there I would have done it myself. The only reason I stayed was because I didn't have any tools with me. This place hired the laziest and the slowest workers in the U.S. and placed it under one roof. I even told both the guy inside and the mechanic that my car is dead and will be a jumper cable for it to start. They kept trying to start it even with my statement and probably thought some magic will happen and my car will get started. Maybe, you can learn to bring the cables after 10-15 tries. When the mechanic brought the jumper cables he closed the hood which got the cables loose so he had to get out of the car to correctly hook up two terminals again... Very unprofessional on the service floor and inside the maintenance ground. I will never let Pep Boys to ever service my vehicle and will not be going there again. It just seemed like they just randomly hired people from the street and placed them in there with zero training. I saw Pep Boy employees joking in front of their customers (me) and texting when there are others seeking their service in line. One of them asked the other to help him out but the other guy just ignores him and continues on with his texting. Where is the manager here? Mark my word and save your time and frustration with this unworthy place. I got a very strong feeling Pep Boys will be the next Blockbuster; Pep Boys will remain in history in few years. read more

Thanks to Mike, today, we were able to have our tires repaired. Two nails were found on each of the back tires causing a slow leak. We always purchase our tires with road hazard coverage from Pep Boys and are glad to do it. They fixed the problem and we had our car back by the afternoon. With Matt, Jose and Mike there we feel we can depend on Pep Boys for our car needs. Coved rules are being adhered to, clean and safe. I came in on Labor day weekend since i noticed a lot of fluid was pouring out of my car quickly. I scheduled an appointment and since it was Labor day they didn't have a master mechanic to work on my car but they were able to inspect my car and saw that it was a few problems. I had to leave my car over night and they worked on it the next day. I know i wouldn't be in this predicament if i made better choices on what places i took my car to get oil changes. Im glad Pep Boys was able to help me out and i feel much safer driving my car. Yes Pep Boys is more pricey but i rather have quality work then have another Leakage. read more

From the first interaction of making sure they had the part, to the reminder about the referral about their tow service I knew I was in good hands. (Kal had no problem looking up the part and putting it on hold until I got there.) When I arrived, Mike calmed my nerves and repeatedly said "I would be taken care of." I certainly was. Gilbert was hands down the quickest, and nicest guy to help. The whole check-in, explanation and process was easy to understand - and even for coming in at 3p, promised me the service could be done by end of day. I can't sing enough praises about all the other people who work there that were also super friendly through the visit. Brought a car I just purchased, in for a bronze inspection. It's the cheapest Inspection and you'd assume it'd take a couple hours. I waited for 6 hours. I didn't mind. The associate checked In on me periodically and I had no plans that day. Finally, I pay and leave. I get home and pop the hood to find a vacuum hose disconnected and hanging right next to my alternator pulley. Immediately, I shut off my engine as to not get it caught. I just purchased the car and never noticed ANYTHING hanging out of place. I bring it back to ask the mechanic if he recalls touching the hose and he says he didnt touch anything and it would cost to research where the unplugged hose goes. I get home and did my own research and notice it's supposed to be connected to the air cleaner element. I go back to find that they plugged the male plug in with what looks like a brand new plug and left that hose hanging. I'm wondering why would someone do this? Then I'm reminded what a greedy deceitful world people can make this to be. Needless to say, NOT RETURNING! read more

Last week, I needed my brakes to be fixed I usually go to the pep boys in Bellflower, but they couldn't schedule me for an appointment at 5pm (after I get out of work) since their mechanic‍ leaves at 7pm ‍ so I tried this location and I'm glad I did. From the beginning, to the end, Gilbert was very polite, helpful, and knowledgeable. My visit took a little longer than I initially expected, but Gilbert kept me updated of what was all being done throughout my waiting time. He was able to answer and explained all my questions. Mike "El " was also very polite and attentive. They really know how to treat their customers Definitely a much better experience than the location in bellflower. This review is only for the store itself and not any of the repair services. The side trim/molding on my car was coming off so I had to get double stick molding tape. I went to one in SD while I was down there, but they had such a limited selection. This one had tons!! I walked in and instead of meandering through the store looking for it, I asked the girl at the cash register and she knew right away where it was. I think it's cool when I see a girl working at a place that's predominantly male and she knows her stuff. It's so kick ass! Anyhoo, I found what I was looking for and I was in and out in about 5 mins. The store was clean and the shelves were well stocked. I had doubts about Pep Boys after my experience at the one in SD, but now I know that not all of them are the same. I would not hesitate to come here again should I need another part for my car. read more

HA!! five-stars?!?! are you kidding me?? i usually do maintenance on my own car.. stuff like changing oil is something a 5 yr old can do.. not that i would actually get a 5 yr old to do it. you know.. with them pesky child labor laws n' all.. (jk.. it was a joke). anywho.. one time a few years back.. i had to go to San Diego and i was due for an oil change. i was short on time and had been busy running errands and realized i had no time to change my oil.. SOOO.. i decided against my gut feeling and went to PepBoys to get my oil changed. i selected the oil and filter that i wanted and paid for the service and products. i guess it was my fault that i wasn't watching them in the service bay but i didn't think anything of it because after all.. it's probably one of their more frequent jobs to do. like i said.. anybody can change oil.. not that hard.. take something out.. put something back in. well.. after about 20-30 minutes my car was done. i signed the receipt, got my keys.. got in my car and left.. i was a couple blocks down the street when i noticed that my car sounded different. i know how engines are supposed to sound and this wasn't normal. it sounded dry with a high-pitched hollow noise. so i drive back and pull up to one of the service bays and ask them for a shop towel.. they hand me one, i pop open my hood and check the dip stick........................................... guess what..................................... THE DIPSTICK that worked on my car.. FORGOT TO PUT THE OIL BACK IN!! so i ask the moron if he put oil in my car. just when he's about to say yes.. he thinks about it for one more minute and i could swear i saw the light bulb above his head go off. then he was like "oh shit".. jumps in my car.. pulls it back into the bay and runs to go get oil. of course.. he doesn't get the oil i paid for.. he gets a cheaper one which was also not synthetic like i requested. idiot. so i tell him and he has the gull enough to ask me for my receipt to check if i paid for it or not. then he runs back in and gets the right oil. but here comes the best part.. he starts pouring the oil.. and when he gets to the third quart.. i see oil POURING out the bottom of my car. at this point.. i'm like.. WHAT THE F*CK?!?! all the other mechanics passing by notice it too and they start surrounding my car wondering what happened. so the guy working on my car lifts my car in the air to check where the leak is coming from.. and guess what.. MORON GOT THE WRONG SIZE OIL FILTER!! *sigh* i had it.. i got the manager. i notified him how incompetent this guy is and how he almost got me to leave with no oil and the wrong size oil filter. the manager then proceeds to apologize and gives me a couple free oil change vouchers. (like i'm ever coming back here). but guess what.. about a year after that.. MY DUMB ASS finds myself in the same situation. running late.. need an oil change.. and i don't have time. i remembered that i had the free voucher and i figured.. well.. whatever. at that time i had switched over to a different oil and filter.. so i went to a local shop that carried the oil and filter that i use and i took it over to the same PepBoys for them to do my oil change.. basically just using their service of changing oil. this time i made sure a different guy worked on my car even tho i didn't see moron there that day.. long story short.. this numb nut forgets to put my oil back in my car too!! luckily this time i didn't even leave the parking lot. i walked back to the service bay and asked him if he put the oil in my car. he instantly replies yes.. and i said.. "well.. why is my oil that i gave you, sitting on the floor over there unopened?" he looks back.. and it's like deja vu. Consistent poor customer service all around- first the cashier/key clerk ask if I needed something (after I stood there for 2 minutes waiting for her and asked me in a tone as if I was bothering her). I told her my intention. She pointed me to service clerk. Thinking it was easy- gave clerk my auto maker, year, type of bulb...with correct info- she showed me the wrong bulb to buy (found out when I got home). Then I asked if someone could help me install or showed me- Went to a service guy- he first says 10 bucks to change. so I asked to show me. He took a look at my car- then said 24.99 for a bulb that was only 4.99+tax. So now i have a useless bulb and worse experience of customer service all around. will travel much farther next time than my neighborhood pepboys that I thought might have been helpful. read more
