I had Angel working on my car I was a little skeptical since I've had previously gone to a repair shop before and they upcharged me and made me feel out of place for being a women. The other day, i started my car and got a warning that my headlight needed to be replaced. I did not think this was too big of an issue as I have replaced the headlight in other cars before. I drove to autozone and got two near headlights. I figured that I might as well replace both at the same. I drove home and pulled up a video on how to replace the lights. I turned the video off shortly after they said I needed to take off the front bumper. I will try little repairs, but I draw the line at taking off the bumber. The lesson learned is to watch the how-to video before getting the parts. I drove my car to Pep Boys. The man that was at the counter explained that it would take a couple of hours. I understood this as I did not have an appointment, and the mechanics were already working on other cars. I decided to talk a walk while waiting and see what else was in the area. About an hour later, Pep Boys called and said my car was ready. The man that I talked to said he was able to put mechanics on it to get it done sooner. I walked back to Pep Boys and picked up my car. I recommend this place for friendly and quick service. I do have to point out that this was my experience. If you go without an appointment, you might not be as lucky as I was, and they might not be able to fit you in. read more

This is my second time here. 1st time a few years ago, no complaints. I came in with AC issues, they were able to fix it and I had no issues with the AC from then on. 2nd time, I came in with an issue for a different car. The only thing they suggested was they turn off the lights (which I might add, were not turned off. They have been on auto since I've had it). They simply did not fix the issue. I just am not sure they had the knowledge to fix whatever is still going on with my car. read more

Working with this pep boys has been the worst experience of my life. Their work cannot be trusted. They installed a defective strut and wouldn't listen when I told them the vehicle still wasn't right. Blamed a repair I had declined to get. Had the work verified by another mechanic, only then did they listed. In replacing the defective part, they broke my windshield and said nothing about it until I went to collect my vehicle. I then had to find someone to replace it so pep boys could pay for the replacement, then had to spend an entire afternoon having it fixed, only for the repairman at the glass place shake his head at the terrible work done and the incorrect nuts put on my windshield that was part of the problem. THEN I look in the back seat, and find the box containing the defective part in my car, so I go to return it to pep boys. They, however, decided to close early and weren't even there. read more

The little front desk boy is very unhelpful and acted like I was interrupting his "chill time" They refused to check a part that they replaced without trying to charge a diagnostic for it again which is against their policy according to other locations. I called to make sure they were still doing inspections on cars and they said that they closed at 6 and I told them that's fine and they said how long would it take to come in I told them 15 minutes and they said to come on in. 15 minutes later I arrive and I walk in just to be told that they'll do it tomorrow. Took my Dodge Ram in for a power steering pump- they did it the next day, said it would be done by 5 pm- called me at 11 am and said they were all done- no problems at all and less expensive than planned!! Had major work done on the car earlier this year, my catalytic converter pretty much Shit itself and my mom is always one to wanna go to the pep boys down the street. About 3000$ later and I've got a new converter and new exhaust put in which the day getting the car back kept scraping on every speed bump just to look underneath and see they never cut the bolts and just left a good 4 inches sticking straight down so those were scraping. Ofcourse after calling and complaining they got them cut down but now as expected one of the clamps they put down next to the y frame wasn't out on correctly and has been causing my car to have an exhaust leak. They can say they don't do any exhaust work all they want but I'd appreciate if you installed it on my car to atleast install everything correctly.. read more

Went there to get a tire fixed. they weren't very busy. When it came my turn, they went right to work. but unfortunately, the problem was in the sidewall. they can't fix that so they sold me another tire for 100 something bucks. they did do the automatic air thing that tells you your tire is low and that worked. So all in all they did what they were supposed to do and they did it in a fairly timely manner. read more

We took my vehicle into the Thousand Oaks location for an alignment after replacing our tires (no problems whatsoever) and the service manager told us we needed $1700 worth of work (explained cracks and terrible damage) which left us VERY suspect so we decided to take vehicle to dealership where purchased for same assessment of alignment and there was NONE of the problems that Pep Boys guy said. (No, dealership did not know ahead of time of what PB had said). This is CRIMINAL and we will never shop at a Pep Boys again if this is how dishonest they are being. Super disappointed. read more

I had my oil changed on 6/8/22 David who was at the register and Brandon was the mechanic. I live 2 miles from the Thousand Oaks location it took about 25 minutes overall I imagine, either way when I got home I noticed the shield underneath was dragging (a person on the street tried to flag me down but now a days you don't trust anyone, I stopped at the Valero on the corner for gas and then went straight home) I took pictures and went back up to the Pep Boys (in my other car) location and showed them and the employees said well it was on there when you left they tried to tell me it was my fault ( how in 2 miles can two bolts break off on a smooth road with no bumps and to either bring the truck back or I could call a tow truck. I told them I wasn't paying for a tow truck at my expense they was going to cover it. David at the desk preceded to tell me that I saw the shield was up when I left, " I told him I did not notice anything what am I suppose to do get on my knees and verify their work." Then David told me "well the more you remove the bolts on the shield the weaker they get, we put them bolts back on like it was when you brought the truck in. David and Brandon are covering for each other and flat lied about putting the bolts back on I asked David "did you get under the truck with him and watch him put the bolts back on", he said "No" then how do you know he put the bolts back on. I wanted the Regional or District managers number but they said they didn't know it. I have pictures and posted everything earlier on line but they removed the review. I will not recommend this place to anyone. Sorry so lengthy but pretty upset, how can I as a 66 year old knock off a shield? I came in before 8 am, thinking " wow! Just one car on the deck maybe ill be out of here early too." But no, still here and its almost 12 noon. All they had to do was change the break pads and bleed/flush the break line. More cars came in and I noticed that they dont work on a specific car that came first, they took turns on doing something on each car that came in after me. When I came in only 2 employees were available one on the desk and the other one on the working station, some of their employees came in late and were just standing there talking. Well havent tested the quality of the work done on my vehicle, but I can rate their parformance. POOR, they are friendly though buy they are so slow!!!! I dont know what they need but they have to step up their pacing. Spent a chunk of my day here waiting and as im writing this I am still waiting... Guess what? After 3 hour that I left Just Breaks, I am back now with my family. When we were driving to pick up my son from school, I heard a weitd sound coming from outside my vehicle it sounded like a roulette clicking. I sounded louder and faster as I drive faster, and my wife told me its coming from our car and seemed to be emanating from the rear wheel. I have no choice to take it back, with the experience of long wait I had this morning I am praying it wont take too long this time.(crossing my fingers. I was told that there was a spring that got loose, duh!!! Three dudes to take off one rotor!!! I am starting to regret the decision that I chose Just Breaks, its really not just breaks there will be more. Oh and did I mention that when you pay them after the job is done, they will not discuss with you the terms of any warranty or anything about the reciept they will just make you sign and thats it. I just signed up with Yelp to leave this review. On 9-25-14 I dropped my car off at the Just Brakes #806 - Thousand Oaks. About one year ago we had service on both axles completed on my wife's car at the Pat Booker location, and we were relatively pleased with the service. This was not the case at Thousand Oaks. When I dropped off the car I informed Al that my brakes were making noise and I would need pads on all four and may need rotors, but would like them to give me a call after they inspect it. He called and informed me my rotors were fine and able to be resurfaced, which was great and money-saving news! He let me know they could bleed the brake system for $59 and recommended a coolant service, which I declined. He then told me my total - $440. I couldn't believe it since the year previous I had spend $340 for two new rotors and all four brake pads, so Al informed me that service prices this year went up. By $100 for $150 less of parts? I passed the phone to my wife since she had just that morning called the Pat Booker location and gotten a general quote that was way less than what Al was telling me. They told her $99 is the starting point for service on all four brakes. Al told her $440 was the price and she declined service for me. After work, I went to the store and spoke with Al, intending to leave. He told me they just found out that there was an "economy" service he could do. He struggled to find the service and figure out how to charge me the "economy" price on the computer. Once he figured it out he showed me the new price, $99 per axle. I declined the brake flush and asked them to just top off brake fluid. I then noticed a photocopied coupon on the counter with Al & Jerry written on a business card. This coupon page had one that said they were offering $20 off per axle for economy brake service. I asked Al and he said that applied to my service. He said he applied the discount and gave me my total of approximately $220 (half of what the original non-economy service was supposedly going to cost). I didn't realize that the math didn't add up until I picked up my car and read the printed invoice that was left on my passenger seat. I was charged $78 for each front and rear brake labor, $21 for each front and rear brake pad, $99 each so far so good. Then I saw that Al removed $20 only as a discount, not $20 per axle as advertised. Lastly, I saw that they charged me $10 for the front and $10 for the rear to top off my brake fluid, despite the fact that this is included in all services and explicitly on the coupon I used as included. So, all in all I was mislead about the price of service (if I didn't question it would I have paid double what was required?). I was given questionable explanations of the service pricing. I was told I would qualify for a discount that was not applied properly. And lastly, I was charged extra for a so-called "included" service. I would not recommend Just Brakes at all based on this experience. Find a local mechanic instead, I know that's what I'll do in the future. read more

Frustrating phone calls trying to find out information (they will give no information out over the phone - not even a price range for a part - not service or total cost - but what they charge for a part), frustrating location (I attempted to visit their location on Broadway and when I called the number to make sure they were open no one informed me that the number redirected to their location on Thousand Oaks), and an amazing experience dealing with the idea that when I finally get to the Thousand Oaks location they quote me a turnaround time of, "brake service requires at least four hours." Don't waste your time scheduling an appointment at their Thousand Oaks location. I scheduled an appointment to have a tire repaired/replaced arrived on time and was told "I know you have an appointment, but I have several more important jobs to work on". Literally the worst customer service I've ever received at a auto repair service. I drove to Discount Tire on Nacogdoches and they repaired my tire for free. Oil change took an hour, but using my groupon I only had to pay $8 for tax and the extra quart of oil for my SUV. I have a 47 Willys (CJ2A) and needed some work done. I asked the manager. I have never heard a manager so highly recommend the work of an employee like today at Just for Brakes on Thousand Oaks. Aaron raved about the quality work of his employee James and how excellent his work was. From my brief conversation with James, it was evident that he knew what he was talking about. so the story starts off negative so read all the way through. I first took my sons car in May to pep boys in San antonio on Thousand Oaks when his AC died. They fixed it and he hit the road toward Seattle. Two hours in AC died. Unfortunately he was headed out of town and on time restraints as he was headed to Seattle n Hawaii for work..so he drove without Ac. Fast forward 9 months , Christmas break n he is back in Seattle, he goes into Pep boys in Burien, Washington. Keep in mind, I was told work is guaranteed for a year. . In Washington, I'm told the parts are covered but not labor. I paid 1100.00 plus change for AC work in San Antonio. The pepboys in Washington quoted labor at $1000 . The managers tells us that it's a fleet account so becuz of that parts aren't covered so we decide to use my sons extended warranty. I don't have a fleet account, and never did. So, I realize San Antonio must have made a mistake. At this point my kid has been waiting 3 days for a job and is gonna be late getting back to school, if he doesn't hit road soon. We were told work would be done in a day. It wasnt actually took a week but that's for another review. I am in Texas n go to San Antonio shop....here's the GREAT PART. The manager Juan realized what the girl did wrong. He corrected the problem and called Washington n TOLD manager that it was their error and that becuz they categoried incorrectly, the labor isnt covered....so he would pay for labor. I nearly cried; I was so hapy cuz my kid needed ti be on the road n the nightmare woukd finally be over. If there was a way to give no stars, I would. I went to the Thousand Oaks location with a coupon for free pads with the purchase of the installation. Within 5 minutes of the complimentary "brake inspection" Al was trying to upsell everything and dropped several hints about their credit card options. "You need a new this and a new that"...I told him "no thank you. Replace just the brakes" he informed me that it would take about an hour so I left to go get some coffee. While I was gone he called me to inform me that there was another issue with my parking brake that he could fix if I was willing to pay for it. Again, I told him to just change my brakes. When I get back to pay for my device, he informed me that he only changed the brakes on the back wheels and that my total was almost 300 dollars. For two brakes? And the pads were free? As I started to drive home when I heard a grinding noise coming from my rear wheels. So naturally, I take it back to complain, only to have Al try to charge me to get rid of a noise that wasn't there until after he "fixed" it...needless to say I declined... Long story even longer, I flushed away an entire day fixing what Just Brakes did to my car...time is money. Save yours, and GO SOMEWHERE ELSE... read more

It's probably a good idea to avoid this location--and company--altogether on your quest for reputable car service. I want to preface by saying I am certainly no car mechanic; I rely on the experience of professionals who are honest with me so I can make informed decisions. I have since learned from my naivete, at least when it comes to car service. I came into this Just Brakes telling them that my vehicle's 45k mile maintenance (performed by Firestone) had uncovered that my rear brake pads were worn. I found that odd considering the front brakes do most of the work in a passenger car, but nevertheless my wife encouraged me to have professionals look it over. The two Just Brakes mechanics proceeded to do an unasked-for inspection of my vehicle. They showed me the brake pads and commented on their shape, but did not directly tell me whether they needed to be replaced and why. The pads had a u-shaped trench down the middle which was not yet reached on any pad I saw. I suspect the pads still had life in them, but was not given enough information to make an informed decision. Next, they told me my power steering fluid was "dirty" and that it should be flushed. Finally, they showed me throttle body butterfly valve and said there were deposits on it. To me, it looked nearly clean. They also wanted to bleed (or maybe replace) my brake fluid. The final bill was almost $500! I told them, "Look, I didn't come in here looking to spend that much money." The mechanic removed the brake line bleed, but that was all. The total was still over $400. I stupidly agreed to have them do the work they suggested. I haven't been feeling well lately and was not really in a mood to negotiate. After they performed the work, I did some research. It turns out that power steering fluid almost never needs to be replaced regardless of whether it looks "dirty." Power steering fluid should only be replaced if there are problems with the power steering or if the fluid has a build-up of metallic fragments in it, or has a strong burnt smell. The mechanics did not prove any of this to me, nor did I ask because I didn't know of such things. They just pointed to the reservoir and said it was "dirty" as a justification for charging me $119.99 to flush the fluid. It also turns out that carbon deposits in the throttle body do not typically cause problems. Judging by the pictures I've seen of throttle bodies with too much carbon build-up, this suggested service was completely unnecessary. The valve and housing were nearly completely devoid of deposits when they showed it to me. They did not present me any information which would've allowed me to make an informed decision. And now, to the brakes: They only replaced the front pads, but I was charged, in total, $182.49 for this service! Their store advertised $159.99 for complete ceramic brake service, including pads, rotor finishing, and brake line fluid. They didn't replace the brake fluid at my request and still it seems evident I was grossly overcharged. So, now I feel like a fool. I will certainly never let this happen again. Please, take my review to heart and avoid this shop and this company at all costs. Educate yourself about common upsell attempts used by these unscrupulous mechanics and companies. Here is an itemized breakdown of my bill (I've omitted several $0 line items): BRAKE LABOR: 122.00 PADS, BRAKE FRONT: 37.99 $99 BRAKE SERVICE (BASIC): -20.00 F DISC HARDWARE KIT: 42.50 (How is this different than a prior line item for the pads?) FUEL SYSTEM FLUSH LABOR: 40.00 3 PART FUEL KIT: 79.99 (I didn't even ask for this! They made it seem like they were simply cleaning the throttle body. I didn't ask for any additives.) POWER STEERING FLUID FLUSH LABOR: 40.00 POWER STEERING 2 PART KIT CLEAR: 79.99 (omitted disposal fee) Also, when asked for my initials and signature, I was not presented with an actual piece of paper to sign, or even a monitor showing me what I was signing. Everyone I have spoken to over the phone has been very nice and helpful. I dropped car Friday night and arranged a Saturday pick up at 1pm. I had brakes and a couple of things done. No status call in the morning. I checked at 1030a should be ready by 2pm at 1pm I get a call with a quote for 2x what I expected to pay and was told it will be ready at 4pm. 4pm I call...cars all done. 430p came to pick it up and it's not finished. Everyone is nice but this has taken extremely long. I'll only come back for the warranty. read more

I was very hesitant to come here based on the reviews however the price was so good that I decided to take the chance. It turns out this location is under new management and a lot of their problems have been corrected. The cost per axle is normally $99 but it is currently on special for $79. That is an amazing price. My disc brakes were replaced and rotors turned. Yes there were suggestions to replace other things but all you have to say is no. Not that hard and no pressure was given. The entire job took about 3 hours which seemed long but only because we are so used to 10 minute oil change. On something as critical as brakes I would rather they take their time and get it right. I will go back and I suggest others give them another chance as well. Nice job! read more

Well, they certainly don't advertise quickness. I went with a friend who came here to get his oil changed. He doesn't know much about cars which the front desk employee obviously picked up on and tried to up-sell him like any typical mechanic would. It didn't seem that busy but took nearly 2 hours to get an oil changed and a tire rotation. I'll chalk that up to a possible shortage on employees that they can't help. I wouldn't recommend it, but I also wouldn't boycott it, if that makes sense. Oil change prices seemed to be fair. Just do your research and know your stuff before you go in. read more

Hi group. I see a lot of bad reviews for this place and I would have agreed, until today. I was a certified master mechanic for over twenty years until a car accident left me disabled. I HATE having to take my cars to get serviced. They always say you need this and you need that, until I say show me. Then their tone changes. This place has all new techs and a new manager. Not a manager who stands around but one who is out there working with his guys. Not one that's trying to rip you off but one that wants to get you out of the door Happy with the work he performed. First, I want to state that I am not the type of person who likes to complain in a public forum, but I have tried to handle this behind the scenes. I have called, online chatted, and e-mailed with these people and nothing happens. In today's world it appears that in order to get the response to your complaints you need to post a scathing post on social media. So now, for those who traverse the world wide web, allow me to present by terrible experience with a certain Pep Boys location, and their corporate customer service. It was about around a month ago when our van began to overheat. When I popped the hood, I discovered that our overflow tank was empty. I then took the van to our local Pep Boys. That location was previously a Just Brakes and we would take it to that location for routine service and oil changes. The Assistant Manager told me that they would check it over, and let me know what was going on. When I heard back from them they told me that there was a leak from a freeze plug, and it was going to be a $300+ fix. So they "fixed" the freeze plug, I we were off. Problem solved. It was two weeks later that I discovered a pool of coolant on my garage floor. Frustrated and confused I took our van back to the same location (shame on me) and they said that I had a cracked radiator. I wondered why they did not discovered a few weeks back when searching for coolant leaks. The manager said that sometimes when you fix the weak link, the next link soon reveals itself. I accepted that and had them replace the radiator. That was another $700. This is where the story gets good. The next day we are driving along, now with all our kids in tow, when check engine lights start to flash and steam is rising from under the hood. We quickly pull over and get everyone out. I pop the hood to see coolant all over the engine and a trail of coolant all over the ground. This is not what you expect the day after a shop says they repaired the issue. Trying to remain calm and collected, yet expressing my cause for frustration, I called the shop. They told me to call 1(800)PEP-BOYS, and they would have my car towed to their shop. When I called the 800 number and pressed the correct buttons, I was placed on hold (for over 15 minutes). I called back, and still was on hold. I called the shop, and they offered no solution. Imagine if I were in a dangerous location. I eventually had to call my insurance's road side assistance to get my vehicle towed to their location. The tow did not arrive for another 1.5 hours. When the tow truck arrived, no one came out to greet me. After 5-10 minutes the Assist Manager finally wondered up. I explained the situation, and at this point I was quite frustrated. Then I sat in the waiting room for another 45 minutes of hour before the AM came back in to talk to me. I was rather frustrated and angry, and the only time he seemed to have any concern was when I questioned the quality of their work, and their lack of customer service. 10-20 minutes later the manager came in and gave me an attitude for being frustrated with their work and his lack of customer relations. He kept saying that they were going to take care of my, but that was the first time I heard that. I have never been yelled at like that before, and was quite shocked that he would treat his customers like that. A week later we discover that the freeze plug is again leaking, and for 5 days I have been playing phone tag with the Customer service hotline. They said an Area Director was going to call me back, but that never happened. At this point, what I want is my money reimbursed and an apology from Pep Boys for all their terrible service. I cannot believe this is how people do business. We took the van to another shop, which noticed that Pep Boys Auto Parts & Service used the wrong antifreeze, installed the freeze plug wrong, and never noticed the cracked water pump, This will cost us another $1100. read more

San Antonio-Babcock RD. Location Took my 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee to get a second estimate for front rotors and pads only. After thirty five minutes I was given an estimate for over $500.00, what a rip off!! They told me the rotors on my vehicle were expensive $150.00 each and the pads $79.00 each. I checked the local AutoZone and my rotors were only $49.99 each and the pads were $27.99 to $79.99 depending on the quality I wanted. They also recommended a hardware kit at $5.99 a wheel, so you can do the math! My other estimate for the same service at a well known garage was $299.99 plus tax. I'm sure you've figured out where I'm going and where I'm not going! Do your homework before you take your vehicle to any shop, especially these people!! read more

Don't give this business your money or time. They LACK INTEGRITY. I called and was quoted for $179 with a special on $50 off it was supposed to be $128.98. It took 3 1/2 hours to complete my service. Why? Because they have a PARTNERSHIP WITH ADVANCED AUTO PARTS and they bring them the hardware for the brakes. They eat lunch with them every Friday (as the man at front desk stated) and while I was waiting, someone from Advanced auto parts came over for casual conversation. So instead of them actually containing all the parts required for their business they have a partnership with advanced auto parts. I didn't really quite grasp this until I left. Next Rant: Instead of paying the $128....they charged me $228. Why? Because I am a young women (23) with a child looking face. Also, my husband is in the military. They took advantage of me. This is how they did it: Charged me for services I told him I did not need. And when I decided to pay I asked how much and he told me $128. I confirmed the price of $128 and I swiped my card. Well the receipt was unusual. It was mostly blank it had no prices listed. all it required was my signature. I thought.......That's weird.... and I sat back down and continued to wait. When they were finished the front desk man gave me a statement. It listed the prices of everything and I assumed he had given me free services. Because he told me that it was $128 two times. It's now a week later and I check my bank account and it says that I was charged $228. So I called him this morning and told him what I had found out what he done, but the man acts ignorant to justify his lack of integrity. He said he would reimburse me for the the hardware Advanced Auto Parts brought over. This is a very MANIPULATING business. But folks, it's not the matter of the cost of the service that makes the situation frustrating. It's the fact that they lied and took advantage of me. If you go here and have a problem, confront them and write your reviews everywhere; because it you don't, your enabling them to continue to do this to other people. And in these economic times, people deserve better. I hope this doesn't happen to a family that is not financially stable.
