Their STEAK bomb calzone is stuffed with veggies and pepperoni , and then I'm assuming someone sprinkles a tiny bit of steak on there like Salt Bae. This is by far my go to delivery place in Somerville. I get it at least once a week and Have NEVER been let down. I typically always get a very similar thing but tonight branched out. Pasta is great! Got it with extra extra cheese and beyond amazing. I always ask for everything extra extra crispy and the results are to perfection for my taste. Chicken tenders are bomb, cheesecake delicious and brownie is thumbs up. Greek salad great, onion rings on point. Had to finally call and ask for the difference in bacon crazy fries to bacon cheese fries. Crazy fries have mayo, ketchup or something and cheese fries are cheese fries. AMAZING cheese fries FYI. This food is not very good. In fact, it is bad. I ordered here because it's one of a few late night spots in the area and I was expecting to have a nice drunken pizza sesh with my sister and some friends. I was wrong! Wrong! Very wrong! Disastrously wrong. The pizza was burnt but also undercooked on the bottom, which made it dry and chewy. I think they use really cheap ingredients-- which is why the cheese was terribly bitter, dry and burned and the dough was yeasty and tasted like under cooked flour. One of the most unpleasant pizza experiences of my life. I'm not even picky about pizza either. I'll eat most of it without issue. I love the cheaply $1 slices in NYC, but Pepi's made those places seem gourmet (they aren't). This was HORRIBLE. I'm so unhappy. Their subs are also so gross. My friend ordered the steak and cheese and originally thought it had a ton cheese on it only to realize they subsidize their cheese by adding mayo... it's gag worthy really. Not just because I hate mayo, but because it forms a particularly noxious flavor when mixed with cheap cheese. Everything about this was horrible. I really like their slices. But their late night service leaves a lot to be desired. Many nights they don't have slices after midnight, even though they close at 1:30. So today we went in a full hour before choosing time, and they offered to make us slices, since at were buying four. But instead they made us a large pie. Slices come from an 18" pie. The large was only 16". If you understand pizza math, that's a 25% difference. That's 25% more pizza area, and a much thinner crust, and a much better, or in this case, worse pizza. If I hadn't been there with a friend, I would have asked them to remake the pie. That would've been best in hindsight. I went back after we finished the pie to complain, and the clerk was completely oblivious to how annoyed I was about this. If I had refused it and asked that it he remade,she she would have understood my unhappiness. The slices are still excellent, which is about the only reason this review is three stars rather than two. It's unfortunate the clerk didn't do better at resolving the issue. Update: recent visit about 12:45. Once again they were out of pepperoni slices, and were "too busy" to make any more. And they weren't even very friendly about it. So for me this is becoming a place where I can't get what I want, so why bother to drive in? read more

I was weaned on New York and New Haven pizza for 18 years. After about ten years in Boston, I had pretty much given up all hope of finding a decent pizza place -- i.e., one that managed to make a thin crust out of a decent dough, put a decent (not-too-sweet) sauce on top of it, and put some decent cheese on top of that. I don't know how it took me so long to discover Pepi's, but I praise the lords of cheese for -- eventually! -- putting me on its path. If you're looking for something in the Boston area that approximates the standard NY pie, this is the place. Pizza is a relatively simple dish. But it inspires complex moods. I feel like having a pizza every couple of weeks, but I never have the same craving twice in a row. A few months ago, I wanted homemade pizza. Nothing else would do. In a trance-like state, I prepared the dough, rolled it, and topped it with store-bought veggies and meats. Sometimes I want pizza right out of a wood-fired oven, even if it means finding a Crush Pizza. Other times, I have a hangover so bad, I'll crawl over to Domino's and bite into the congealed cheese like a victim of famine. Most times, however, I want something in between shitzza and North End pies. I want something that tastes fresh and is bursting with flavor but doesn't require me to dip into my savings account. No pizza place in town has ever fit this craving as perfectly as Pepi's. And I'm talking about home-delivered pizza, not the dine-in version. When I open the box, the aroma is the first thing I notice. The aroma warmly embraces you, like a fiancee greeting me after an overseas deployment in a war-torn country. Not all aromas do this. Not all smells are aromas either. Domino's has a smell. When you open the box, the smell hits you like a drunk Yankees fan: You weren't expecting much to begin with but you got socked on top of it. After wiping away nostalgic tears from the big aroma hug, I put the box down carefully. I've handled nieces and nephews with less care than I handle this goddamn pie. Before it gets too cool, I barrel towards the kitchen looking for a plate. I rush back and, with the care of a curator, separate two slices from the pie and lay them gently on my plate. The pieces are not giant New York slices. They are the medium-sized wedges of your favorite 90's local pizza joint. Thus, there is no need to fold them and I usually end up putting half the wedge in my mouth before biting. The cheese is melty but not liquid or greasy. The veggies are fresh, the pepperoni has crisp edges, and even the crust is chewy and crisp in just the right places. The dough has a hint of sweetness to it and it's NEVER overcooked or underdone. The first slice is gone in three bites. The second slice too. Five slices later, I look down. I have enough for breakfast, but the fat little devil on my shoulder urges me to try to shove the last couple of pieces down my gullet. The anorexic angel on my other shoulder has nothing to say because I fired him a long time ago. Nevertheless, I give one last longing look at the slices and close the box. I put the box in the oven. I don't refrigerate it because it will last the night and I don't want to lock up the flavors too tightly. It will heat up in mere minutes under the broiler tomorrow. Even after five slices of pizza, I never feel shame like I do after most fast food. I feel full and satisfied and not gross at all. One McChicken makes me look like I'm carrying low with twins, but five fresh slices of Pepi's leaves me feeling like I've eaten kale. If you ever get that middle-of-the-road pizza craving like I do, forego Domino's or Papa John's. Order from Pepi's and get the best pizza that isn't wood-fired oven pizza that you will eat in the Boston area. read more

Have only tried the pizza here but I was happy we stumbled in one night. The pizza is good and the amount of sauce and cheese is as well. Crust is on point also. Wouldn't recommend slices only because they are under a heat light, by I'm picky as hell when it comes to fresh pizza. Overall good pizza, prices aren't bad considering the area. Definitely give it a try if you're in the area. I'd say it's very odd though because it's at its best for the first 25-30 minutes and after that it almost just looses all its life and looks like fake play food. I know it sounds funny but it's odd. I have gone here since 2017, we used to order a pizza every week. So clearly we were loyal customers and the pizzas are good. Last week I ordered delivery through their website. After an hour I call to check in. First they tell me they never got the order. Then they tell me they got the order BUT because I ordered it *from their website* it went to some location where it never printed out. The person on the phone said somehow that wasn't their fault??? Then he asks if I'm the girl from last week who had the same problem (I wasn't). Sorry but huge sus. If you had someone last week who ordered from your website and you guys missed it, that means you're aware of the problem and didn't address it or even try to compensate for it by, maybe, checking this weird area where your website sends orders. The first guy was a rude jerk. After we hang up, I get a call from a manager who tells me my credit card wasn't charged, it wasn't approved and *that's* why they didn't see the order. Turns out my credit card was totally charged. TLDR: I've been a loyal customer, but experienced terrible customer service. I don't enjoy leaving negative reviews whatsoever, but my experience tonight was horrible. The guy who answers the phone and works the register is completely miserable. My number one pet peeve when ordering food is when the person answering the phone is rude. It's like you're annoying them by giving them your business. In such a competitive business that is entirely based on customer service, why do these places think they can get away with treating customer like garbage? Completely blows my mind. If you hate your job that much then quit, or at the very least have someone else answer the phone. Unfortunately that was only the first problem of many. Guy tells me 12 minutes for a pickup. I show up after 20 minutes and they tell me to give them another 5 minutes. No big deal, but don't just quote somebody a time if you know it's going to take twice as long. It's just unprofessional. I ordered a steak and cheese sub and sun burn pizza which is essentially a buffalo chicken pizza with bacon and ranch drizzled over the top. The pizza was okay, a little too doughy, not very crispy, and the "buffalo sauce" was just franks red hot dumped on the dough like it was pizza sauce. It's a lazy approach and it completely overpowers the taste of the pizza. I love spicy foods so the spice wasn't the problem. but it was just oversaturated which made for a soggy, overly sweet pizza. A sad amount of ranch drizzled over the top that only made it onto about 3 of the slices did nothing to help balance out the hot sauce drenched pie. If this was the worst part of the ordeal I wouldn't even have written this review. I would have chalked it up to me not being a big fan of their pizza and moved on, but then I opened the steak and cheese sub..... This was one of the saddest looking subs I have ever seen in my life. I should of known when the guy handed it to me because it had no weight to it at all. I am kicking myself for not taking a picture of it, but I was so pissed off when I opened it that immediately called the store back to complain. To charge $9 dollars for what amounted to bread and cheese with a tiny but of steak, no exaggeration the least amount of steak I've ever seen on a sub is such a ripoff. Literally one half of the sub had barely any steak at all, it was mostly just bread. When I called back the guy said he would remake it, no apology or anything, no offer to send a driver out with another sub or to give me a refund. He told me that if I wanted another sub I would have to come back to the store and bring the sub with me. So I'd basically have to wait another 15 minutes, drive back to the store and hope they would be capable of making a better sub than the last time, which I did regrettably. When I got there the same miserable guy from earlier handed me the new sub and could barely muster a half ass mumbled apology. The sub felt pretty much the same as the one I had picked up earlier. It did have more steak in it, but not much. Took a couple bites but the steak was flavorless and bit into a couple big fatty pieces so I threw it out. All in all I think I paid close to $25 and it felt like a complete waste of money. I hadn't ordered in a while and now I remember why. This place is the ideal neighborhood pizza place! My friends and I ordered two pizzas in the store and were pleasantly surprised that it only took around 15 minutes for us to get them. When we got the pizzas we were so hungry that we decided to eat in the store, and someone (I think the owner) was so nice and offered us water, plates, napkins, and such. The pizza crust was perfect, toppings were plentiful, and each slice was filling. It was the perfect end to a long day, good food, great service, and a nice atmosphere! Their job is to take you order and make what you want, no not at Pepi's where they make what ever comes to mind wrap and up charge you for it and then tell you there's nothing they can do when you bring the food back. The people here are rude, they charge you extra for things that don't even need to be charged for jus to make extra money. The customer does not matter to them. Not a place I recommend to anyone.
