    Oatmeal

I can't remember the last time I was served by a waitress as friendly as the woman who served us at Pepper's Healdsburg this past Monday when I stopped by for breakfast. On the rainy day that my wife and I visited Pepper's, it looked like there was only one other person seated at the bar dining at the restaurant. When we walked in, we were quickly greeted and offered a booth close to the front of the restaurant. Not long after being seated, our waitress stopped by to take our drink order, and our coffees took no more than a minute to be brought over. Throughout our meal, our waitress checked on us multiple times to make sure our coffee was never empty. I ordered the oatmeal off the sides menu, and my wife got the chicken fried steak. If you're a fan of chicken fried steak, you will absolutely love the one here. The steak is fried as crispy as a chicken tender, the sausage gravy smothered on top is rich and hearty, and the toasted buttered biscuit served on the side is perfect for sopping up any gravy left on your plate. The over easy eggs we ordered could not have been cooked better. Additionally, the included hash browns were cooked perfectly: the entire surface of the hash browns was cooked to a crispy gold brown with not a single burnt, or uneven bit. I can't recommend Pepper's enough if you happen to be in this part of Healdsburg.

Half of the Redwood Club, and onion rings.

An interesting spot...it serves kind of classic diner food, but has the ambience of a fine diner. We came on a Saturday afternoon. I had the Redwood Club, a chicken sandwich with bacon and cheese on parmesan sourdough. I had it without the tomato and avocado. It was a high quality sandwich, with perfectly cooked meat, bacon that was neither too greasy or too crispy, and a couple layers of melty cheese. I do think it could use a sauce of some kind. I had onion rings instead of fries (a $2.50 substitution); they were very good and came in more than adequate quantity. Music on the speakers could be described as hotel lobby piano music--calming, though not that interesting. Our server did a fine job. It was pricey, though. Even despite the aforementioned qualities, the meal (which also included a lemonade) should not have cost $28. Granted, it's Healdsburg, but despite that fact it was still around $5 more than warranted. All that being said, I'd give the restaurant 4.5 stars if the option was available, and I would come back.

Avocado toast - poached eggs, fruit salad

Excellent service from Sabrina who was friendly and helpful. Avocado toast was good although toast slightly underdone and eggs slightly overdone but made up for by pesto, tomato, and arugula on toast plus good mixed fruit. Basic coffee is good.

BLTA with a side of fries.

After closing the deal for our "new to us" SUV, we stopped in to Pepper's for a quick lunch. Luckily, it wasn't too busy so we were seated quickly, and placed our order. We selected the BLTA (avocado) with a side of fries and a Lagunitas. Good portions, tasty and hit the spot.

Being from the east coast I love a good diner! I miss them in other areas of the country. This place is exactly what I missed. Big, hearty, fresh breakfast in a friendly atmosphere. Our server Ashley was fun, friendly and attentive! She was super sweet and took great care of us!! Get the chicken fried steak...not greasy and perfect with their sausage gravy.

That's probably the highest compliment I can give. I ordered the Wagyu sandwich, and every component knew exactly why it was there. Nothing fought for attention, yet every ingredient made the others taste better. The beef was deeply satisfying with a rich, meaty bite, while the pickled peppers were the spark that made the whole sandwich come alive. One bite somehow managed to satisfy my teeth, my tongue, my throat, and even my nose. It's rare to find a sandwich that engages all of your senses at once. Whoever built this sandwich has an exceptional understanding of flavor, texture, and restraint. Nothing felt excessive, and nothing felt missing. Then there's the bread. Too often, bread is just the thing that holds the filling together. Here, it deserves equal billing. Moist, fragrant with wheat, with beautifully toasted edges that added just enough crunch without becoming hard. By the final bite, the filling was already gone, but I still found myself slowing down because I didn't want the bread to end. When a sandwich makes you savor the last bite of bread on its own, you know someone in that kitchen truly cares.

Cookie was as big as my hand! Crispy edge, soft inside. 10/10 for that cookie. The chicken salad was really good. Large chunks of chicken, mayo, some spices -not sure what. Consistency was perfect. Loved the pumpkin seeds for a little crunch. Definitely the best chicken salad I've had in a long time. And nice on the bread. Lettuce could have been there or not, didn't add anything for me. Simple, effective. The turkey pesto was kind of basic, but the addition of the dill and the very fresh bread did do something for me. I think I'll be adding dill to my pesto sandos now? Anyway, solid sandwiches. Wouldn't say it blew me away and they are a bit small for a $20 sandwich, but here we are. Would come back for the baked goods and fresh breads.

Cold, processed deli meats with the standard condiments is just not appealing to me. As we were driving through Healdsburg for lunch, my friend's Tesla suggested "Summer's Market & Deli" for a quick bite. The suggested reviews offered "BEST sandwiches" - though I had bias reservations (again, I don't like sandwiches). The shop is located in a neighborhood one mile off the beaten path. There are a couple of wooden picnic tables outside. Upon entering, the store is sparse, with a small ordering counter on the right side, drink fridge in the back and a few local items for purchase on the left side. The menu offered a variety of hot and cold sandwiches. I ordered the "Grilled Chicken Pesto sandwich", off the FAVORITES sandwiches menu. It includes a hearty combo of grilled chicken breast, red bell peppers, caramelized onions, provolone cheese, lettuce and tomato on a focaccia roll. WOW - the combination of high-quality ingredients made this one of the BEST sandwiches I have ever had!! Well done Summer! Will definitely recommend to all my friends and look forward to returning when I am in the area.

Take a number first if they are busy and order when called. They are pretty quick as our sandwiches were ready in about 5 minutes. I had a giorgi park (vegetarian) sandwich which came as a panini with great flavors and fresh ingredients. SCW had the veggie sandwich which was also really tasty. They have a burrito and pizza line as well. I got a vegetarian super burrito bowl which you can customize. Similar process as chipotle style. Everything looked fresh vibrant. The wine selection is varied and has some appealing options. You can find tofu and fake meats near the produce section. The store is clean and well lit. They have tables outside if you choose to eat there. The employees are very friendly and helpful. There are tall ceilings and a good number of tables/seats indoor and some smaller tables outside. On a Saturday late morning while we were there, we did notice that there was pretty constantly a line. However, it is pretty fast moving and took us about 10 minutes to get through ourselves. You'll start by seeing some merchandise and online orders before getting to the baked goods, drinks/cakes, and the cashier. The staff was super friendly and helpful in answering our questions and offering suggestions. Once you order, you get a number if you're eating in and can grab cutlery, water cups/water, and look for a seat. There is also a good restroom that was clean. We sat on one of the bigger tables/benches and our order came in about 7 minutes. Here's what we ordered: +Veggie quiche: One of the best items we had. Loved the flaky pie crust and how big it was. The quiche was delicious and came with a small side salad. +Ham and cheese croissant: A good croissant. Loved the everything bagel-like seasoning on top. I think this being warmed up would go the extra mile. +/-Ricotta and jam toast: The toast was good here. But the ricotta/jam were a little bland. Would have benefitted from a little more of a bold flavor to help give it a distinctive taste. -Iced matcha latte: We also ordered the iced matcha latte. They didn't have almond milk so opted for oat milk. Unfortunately this was the weakest item we had personally. The oat milk was a bit too strong and combined with the matcha used, it left with a bit of a strange aftertaste. Parking wasn't too hard as it was in a pretty big parking lot.
