So we have leery of Pepper's Landing. Why you may ask? It was in a strip mall. At the far corner and were worried it wouldn't have the right ambiance. I know very silly on our part and guess what, we were wrong. It had a great feel! The outdoor eating area was comfortable, quiet and perfect for a large droop dinner with a toddler :) the food was solid. A good assortment of seafood dishes, burgers and basically pub food but good all around. The fried calamari were juicy, tender and crispy in the outside. The marinara for dipping was ice cold which was a bummer. The burger was gray. The fried shrimp and haddock were perfect. Second time here with the four year old grandson. Perfect spot for kids!! Their food comes in a boat, good crayons, stickers, and a trip to the treasure chest for a treat after. For adults, good seafood prepared well, crab roll is always good, yummy sweet potato fries, lightly breaded and fried haddock. The menu had lots of options that sounded good, which I love. We shared the fried shrimp appetizer first, along with a few beers. The shrimp were fried fresh and super hot and crispy! The local Maine beers went perfectly with the food. For lunch, I had the lobster roll and my husband had fish & chips. The lobster roll looked skimpy compared to Red's but the flavor was nice. The fish & chips were cooked fresh as well and my husband was very happy. The fries had some sort of batter on them which made the fries very addictive. Food: I got the calamari appetizer and it was delicious! They used spices in the breading to make the dish extra flavorful. I also got some onion rings which were great. Their appetizers are about the same size as their meals and are just as expensive. I've also tried their firecracker shrimp and it is great. The sauce has a kick to it but the shrimp are so perfectly cooked so that the breading on the outside still has a satisfying crunch to it. The burger here is a bit of a let down. It is greasy and the bun is much smaller than the patty so it is unwieldy to eat neatly. It also was a bit more charred on the outside than I'd prefer and needed seasoning. The chips here are always burnt so never ask for them over the fries because you will be sorely disappointed. I couldn't even eat some of the more burnt ones. The pesto chicken sandwich was also a bit disappointing. The chicken was dry and the pesto overwhelmed the flavor of the chicken or the cheese. I've only had the mushroom fries once because it was a special on the day that I went but they were superior to most of the local fried mushroom options at other seafood restaurants and I hope they make them a permanent menu item. Visiting Maine for a week and my friends wanted to go out for dinner. We noticed this place after a grocery run from Shaw's. They require reservation due to COVID. You can do it via yelp but I have to call them since our group was larger than allowed in yelp reservation. The staff were very pleasant and welcoming. If you're a vegetarian they have a veggie burger,buffalo cauliflower and sweet potato fries, regular fries and homemade chips to choose from. I know it isn't much but atleast they have it. Meals come with a lil cup of cole slaw on the side. Burgers and baskets comes with regular fries or chips but you can substitute it with other sides they offer for $2 extra. I was told that Moscow mule was good. I ordered the Mocktail (Punch) and it was refreshing. My veggies burger was delicious, I loved the toasted brioche bun. My friends enjoyed their meal as well. November 8th is when my mom and I made a stop to Pepper's Landing, I was in the mood for a lobster roll, after all Maine is known for all things lobster, I looked at their rolls and hoped it would be delicious, we headed there and I ordered myself the Casco Bay, it's a mixture of both mayonnaise and butter, basically a combination of a butter lobster roll and cold one with mayonnaise. My order came with fries and coleslaw. My mom's order was a Ceaser Salad and clam chowder bowl, my mom's chowder was so delicious, trying everything made my mouth salivate. I'm not a local this was for vacation, but I would 100% recommend here just like for us some shacks were closed for the season, so if you want a lobster roll I suggest here, it's not a set price it's based on price they would inform you, but don't sleep on these rolls don't give this place a second thought go for it. My next trip to Maine if I'm within the area I will definitely stop and grab myself another Casco Bay roll. Peppers Landing is our favorite place to eat. The atmosphere is great, during the summer the patio is very nice and covered. But what we like the best is when we call in our order to pick up ( dinner during COVID) You get the same great service and respect as when you are in the restaurant, they are always friendly, great service and great food. Two of us had lunch there today, Valentine's Day, where we were wished a happy day from the well dressed greeter/host and the young, happy and helpful waitress. It was our first time eating there and we definitely want to return. Based on the waitress' recommendations and what we thought sounded good, we got a crab quesadilla and the haddock tacos, light on the blackened seasoning. The quesadilla was delicious with a good amount of crab. The 3 haddock tacos were pretty large and everything on them was fresh and delicious. They came with a choice of sides so we paid a little more and got hot and crispy sweet potato fries. There is a board on the wall with the locations where all the seafood served there comes from. Traveling thru Maine on a road trip and eating at every seafood restaurant I can. Asked the hotel desk clerk for a recommendation and she suggested here based on other people's recommendations. I called for reservations and the four of us went for dinner at 715 today, June 25. We all four had the baskets. One scallops and clams, one shrimp, one shrimp and oysters and I had shrimp and scallops. We also had the calamari. I wish I could give this place 5 stars but I was disappointed in the quantity of seafood. If you want lots of everyday blah french fries then this might work for you. The 1/2 pound of seafood was overwhelmed by mostly fries. And they weren't even good fries. The seafood was good but was offset by those fries or house made chips that left a lot to be desired. And the slaw was not worth the effort either. It needed more dressing. The service was also lackluster. Our waitress forgot water for two of us. And she had to be reminded several times about refills. She finally set a pitcher of water down on our table. There was an upcharge on one of the baskets and the waitress put the charge on the wrong bill. When we brought it to her attention she just shrugged her shoulders and said she guessed she messed it up. She never offered to fix the problem. The mojitos two of us ordered tasted like a watered down version of the real thing. Not good at all. We did drink them instead of sending them back. I wanted to like Pepper's Landing. Maybe it's because Brunswick--which sits on the coast and has easy access to the abundance of seafood harvesting that takes place here and nearby (Harpswell)--lacks a go-to seafood restaurant that doesn't involve food being delivered to your car (i.e. a drive-in), or eaten while sitting on a dock (aka, a seafood shack). Don't get me wrong, I'll wolf down a lobster roll in my car in the summer or sit along some bug-infested marsh for a plate of deep-fried scallops just like anyone else whose a true Mainer. It's just that sometimes, it's nice to eat lobster (or clams, mussels, scallops, etc.) in a fancier setting than in your front seat or on a picnic table, battling seagulls for your meal. Brunswick still feels like a Navy town, even though Brunswick Naval Air Station shut down more than 8 years ago. Bath Road, especially the Cook's Corner area with its ugly strip retail infrastructure is a holdover from that time. Pepper's Landing sits in a shopping plaza with Shaw's and a CVS. The building once housed Talbot's if my memory serves me right. The renovation to the interior was tastefully done. It's contemporary, with a large bar area, in addition to tables and booths. There's also a deck outside with some umbrellas and tables. We ate inside. There are pictures of Pepper from his younger days (the 1950s) adorning the walls. He seemed like a "man about town" type who managed to do a host of various things to make a living in coastal Maine during the time just following WWII. The lobsters are in tanks, which I'm sure the kiddos must enjoy. My wife wanted two lobsters. Nothing more, really. Unfortunately, we picked the 4th of July weekend to try Pepper's. Apparently, the kitchen had an "emergency call-out," at least that's the story we were told numerous times to account for the train wreck of a dining experience we weathered. My wife got her lobsters, after about a 45-minute wait. They actually came one at a time because she got irritated and the one competent server who seemed to be holding the place together by a thread while we were there, made sure she got a lobster to get started on. We'd already been told they were out of mussels, which we were planning to start with for an appetizer. While the service was really slow, the food is quite good. I liked their clam chowder. It was thick, which is my preference. My fish tacos had a wonderful aioli accompaniment. The fish was crisp, and the pickled cabbage added a nice accent to how I enjoy this dish. Their onion rings are homemade, which is another nice touch. We are leaving Brunswick soon for points south of Portland. Not sure if we'll be back, or not. I'd be willing to try the place again. The food is solid. The town needs a place like this with sit down service. The service issue needs to be ironed-out however, or Pepper's Landing won't be around for long. read more
