I loved this place. I was here last month for Matt Pryor. First timer. The record shop is located all the way to the back down a steep little driveway. The selection is great and the guy working the shop that day was nice. The "venue" itself is so quaint and perfect for an intimate show. The bartender was also friendly and made a great gin and tonic. There are two restrooms in the venue. Both are single restrooms but are very clean. There is plenty of street parking. Permanent Records roadhouse is such a hidden gem in Cypress Park. Great venue, value, amazing ownership. Tara & Lance are fantastic to work with. If you're looking for a wedding reception, private party/venue, permanent records roadhouse is fantastic. Jesse was great too, Damian, as well as Bridget. Tara and Lance were so accommodating and easy to work with. Highly recommend this wonderful location if you're looking to host 100-150 guests. Ample space for guests, security, signage, street parking, clean venue and bathrooms. I'm sure you could hire a private valet service if you wanted to. There's a slope that leans downhill from the bar to the record store floor that may need to be considered for guests with mobility issues, but other than that, absolutely phenomenal location and experience. read more

I came here for an event and i'm so surprised by this place! Its definitely a neighborhood hidden gem of a bar because once our event was over you could tell by the crowd that they've been coming here for ever (and may have frankly been surprised by the young demographic causing a disturbance). The place is split up into sections - the first includes the bar (with two bathrooms it should be noted!) There's bar seating but there's also booth seating on the side. And then there's ample room for what looks to be if any musicans want to perform so that was pretty cool. You make your way outside to a outside patio of sorts and then you can go down to see the record store and maybe an occassional food vendor if you're there on the right there. Its pretty sick! The drink menu is cut and dry but I'm not one to complain too much. The service was great and I loved the music they were playing. Huge bonus that because its such a hidden gem the parking is really not an issue (at least when I went). If I'm in the area again I'd come back! read more

What could be better in today's world, a vinyl record store with people who love music, with an outdoor patio down the large walkway (the front of this joint that faces the street is closed and all the action is down the side walkway to the bottom store and event space. They serve beer and refreshing non alcoholic canned drinks with tables under a large canopy. This joint has live music and works to promote artists in a way that is so needed these days. Small but a great place to perform or meet people from the community and network in the music industry. read more

A gem! Great "dive" bar for record lovers/aficionados. The drink selection is not divey at all and really affordable stuff. The events that are hosted here are special but never obnoxiously crowded. The bathroom is divey lol. But the bartenders are perfect, not too chatty nor rude/bitchy. This place is wonderful. They used to have outdoor stuff which was so fun but the neighbors aren't as cool I guess :(. Also, cool thing here too is you can come here for day drinking/reading/music listening - which is a nice break from LA. read more

STEPH JUDGEMENT: A tiny but mighty live music venue. We found out that one of our favorite live bands The Schizophonics were playing here and thought it would an excellent opportunity to check out this venue. There was plenty of street parking on the night we went, and since we were a bit early there was plenty of room at the bar as well. The bartender was really nice and the drink prices were reasonable. The space is long and narrow, with record racks on either side of the tiny stage at the far end. Once the openers the Kepi Ghoulies took to the stage we'd moved up to the front to get a better view and it was a super-fun night. So great to see bands really close like that! We didn't really get to check out the records that night but we're definitely planning on coming back. read more

My husband and I saw Jenn Champion perform live at this small but charming dive bar. My husband is a huge fan of her music and was so happy to experience her music live in such an intimate venue, we stood a couple feet away in front of the stage and had a blast jamming out. The bar had such a nice nostalgic presence with several dining booths. We got to enjoy a drink, I had the Little Doll, and listened to some fun and loud 80s music before Jenn came on stage. We easily found free parking along the same street but showed up early so it might be difficult to find parking if you show up during a peak time. read more

Gahhhhh I love this place. My friend and I went to catch a show, and I gasped when I looked across the room and saw a rare LP from Jobriath displayed on the wall. I went out to the store out back and asked the clerk if anything displayed was for sale. "Oh, anything you see is for sale," he said, then proceeded to find me a copy that was in even better shape than the one on the wall. Wish I would have confirmed his name -- it was either John or Joe -- but he was literally one of the nicest associates I've ever interacted with in my life. I first heard about this place from the LA Times talking about how they were one of the first businesses to screen for covid vaccinations upon entry. Already I liked them! Hubby and I came here last Saturday night @ 7pm. He is a record hound and a bar sounded fun. Yes, they check for your vaccination record and your driver's license so be prepared. There was a band setting up with a $10 cover so it was a little tough to get into the records at that time. A good selection of rare sealed vintage records at fair prices. The bartender did a great job of mixing up a Little Doll for me and hubby had a Beachwood beer. You can bring in your own food, otherwise some bags of chips are at the bar. read more

I've seen several shows here, a mix of comedy and live music. It's great programming and a cool environment. The ticket prices are reasonable and the record collection is impressive. It can take a while to get a drink at the bar. It can be difficult to get a good spot for watching a show as there are few seats and most of the standing room is on a steep slant. read more

I really like this spot. It feels unique and how Silver Lake used to before it got congested. The bartenders are nice. It's fun.

Went to my first show there on a friend's recommendation. It was a trip-heavy psych band called the Hoover 3 I think- band straight crushed it. But the real winner was the venue, because no matter how ferocious the live sound was, the acoustics of the space could handle it. In fact it sounded pretty damn good. Extra bonus for the fact that you can look at records while doing all this. Can't wait to come back! read more

Saw a somewhat hard-to-come-by LP I've been wanting for a while on their Insta. Called them right after they opened to ask condition, price, etc., and asked about purchasing over the phone since I don't live nearby. He said it'd be fine since they do it over IG all the time, but dude didn't know the details of how to do it so he took my info and said someone who knew how to do it would contact me later that night. Didn't get any message so I called the next day a few minutes before opening and was told that they'd sold it later that same evening after I assumed I already had it locked-in. What a great bar, record store, and venue for some comedy. Nice chill service, amazing selection of records, great space indoors and out. No complaints. We had a really great night here, probably spent too much money on records, not because they weren't priced right, but just because there was too much we wanted to get, and we had a lot of laughs at the Popular Kids Club comedy show which is hosted at Permanent Records every first and third Thursday. Really two record stores in one....The Roadhouse/bar has a full record shop that doubles as a stage for live shows. Outside, the 'garage' is a more typical record space. Both are likely to regularly stock records that you may not ever see again. I've acquired some of my most prized records from Permanent. Lance is quite possibly the hardest working record dealer I've come across. Now that they've moved into the Roadhouse, you can buy a drink while shopping too. read more

This place nails it. The record store has the best selection in the city or the whole state of California for that matter. Blows Amoeba away with selection and price. The vibe is spot on, service is super friendly and there to actually help rather than ignore you and push you out the door. The bar area is now a home away from home for me. They kept the integrity of the building and gives a warm down-home neighborhood dive bar feel (without being douchey) along with really great records to dig through while you get your booze on. read more
