Ground Beef Koobideh with saffron rice - delicious
    Te-see B.

If you are Middle Eastern, then this is where you need to eat when you are in NYC! And even if you aren't, you still need to come here! Located on the upper East Side of Manhattan, it's wedged in the middle of the west side of the block. On a sunny warm day you can sit outside in the patio. Inside you will find a huge mural of the OG map of Persia highlighting the mountain and water areas. We spent a while pointing out where our relatives once lived to the "Gen Z's" at our table:) The service was spot on. We had a nice bottle of Pinot Grigio to accompany our meal. Our waiter was timely with the refills:) The hummus, dolmas and main dishes were are incredible!!!!

I came here to celebrate the holiday Mehregan. They were giving a special for the holiday, a free dessert. The vibe is very cozy and family driven. They were very welcoming ushering us to our table and explaining the holiday. We even got a photo to take home. Our waiter was very nice read all of the specials, very hospitable. I got fesenjoon as usual, it was very good more tart than usual though, chicken was melt off the bone. The rice with fava beans and dill was super tasty. The saffron rose ice cream was amazing.

    Menu

My family and I went to dine here during the evening last week, just had to mention how amazing the Persian cuisine was that the restaurant offers. Amazing service as well, our waiter Cristian was super helpful with the menu and meal questions we had and overall we received amazing service. Food came out timely, and there was a lovely dim ambiance inside. I totally recommend giving this place a try :)) 11/10

The worst was sour cherry rice that was definitely not what is shown in the poplular photos of it. It had almost no sour cherry (maybe 2 or 3) and was extremely oily. The koobideh and shank was ok. The plate size was weirdly small. The service was great though. We had saffron ice cream for dessert which was again just ok, didn't worth not the price nor the calories spent. We also had Mirza ghasemi for appetizers which was basically oily fried eggplants, not mirza ghasemi!!

So what makes this a one and done? Let me tell you... Server is abrupt. No introduction just are we ready? Tabbouleh was salty. Overpowered the flavors. Good enough to eat but barely. Mirza/Eggplant dip nothing to write home about. It was served hot and tasted like mashed eggplant. Pita was fresh and warm. Lamb kebab has no stick. No chunks of nice juicy tender lamb. It was thinly sliced thumb length pieces of lamb at a whopping price of $30. Was it good. Yes. Was it worth $30? No. Dark meat chicken. Described as marinated in onions, tomatoes and lemon juice. So naturally I expected it to be served with onions and tomatoes. The chicken although tender was the size of an infants fist. Got about five of these baby fists. Both dishes were served with rice. Server said I had a choice. So we chose rice w dill and favas. But beware for some reason there was a $4 charge for this. And the rice takes up one whole side of the plate. I get so frustrated when restaurants do this. It's like they're compensating for the dish. Again server wasn't friendly. Didn't ask at any point how are food was. Did ask if we wanted dessert. No Brought us a little tasting from the kitchen that tasted like cotton candy. This was a nice surprise. Ordered 2 drinks. A pomegranate and fig mojito. Both were watered down. I can deal with the lack of alcohol flavor but they imparted no flavor of their moniker. Pomegranate looked the part but did not taste it. The fig had one half of a dried up fig at the bottom. It tasted like a fig newton lol. But there is no way to expect it to add flavor. The ratios for these drinks were totally off. Maybe I shouldn't write this while I'm upset. I mean at least 20 minutes went by when the waiter dropped off the "dessert" with no check and never returned. So yeah, I'm mad. If I had a better server who was friendly like his counterparts I could've enjoyed the meal more. But sadly it's not the case.

Great place to come for dinner- me and my husband actually came here on Valentine's Day and the place was decorated with balloons and had a cozy intimate vibe. They did not have a prefix Valentine's Day menu- which we were happy about! The waiter brought a basket of fresh rolls that was to die for. The saffron rice with chicken was delicious and I would highly recommend when coming here! Will definitely be back.

    Inside view

Staff were very polite and helpful, the food was cold and not the best tasting. I would score my meal very average. Consider placing salt and paper on each table so we don't have to waste time and ask for it. Salt and pepper is a must on Persian tables. The ambiance looks cozy and very New York. I'm sure it could be entertaining on weekend nights. I recommend you improve your kababs, best wishes. Again super polite and friendly staff. Thank you

Amazing Persian spot in the UES. My family often makes the trek in from Queens to eat at this spot since it's so great. My favourite are all the lamb dishes! I'd recommend getting a few and sharing if you're coming in a group. Lamb shank is so soft and moist and each bite is extremely tender and flavorful. My personal fave is the lamb kebab where you can easily pull off bite-sized pieces of lamb to eat with their wonderfully sweet rice. I also love the hummus here - it's so creamy and reminds me a bit of peanut butter.

There were other Greek style restaurants nearby but felt this place may just be a tad better than the rest. We were quickly sat down and the interior of the restaurant was very clean looking, pleasant, and bright. They started off with free warm bread and two types of dipping sauce (tzatziki and some type of cilantro sauce). Both were bangers and the bread was soooo warm. My wife ordered the Khoresh Bademjan $26 which was chunks of boneless baby lamb stew with eggplants and tomato. It was not spicy which was to my wife's liking and the food was soooo tender and scrupulous. I ordered the dark meat chicken kabob platter which came with saffron and whole pieces of tomatoes/onions grilled. The chicken was amazingly soft and love the large chunks so you can really taste it. The saffron rice they give for each portion was very plentiful and definite leftovers for sure. Both dishes far exceeded our expectations and we will definitely return. FYI - there are other locations of this place as well.

In terms of food, everything I ordered was delicious! I wish someone told me to order more than 1 bread for my labneh, it was so delicious, freshly made and fluffy, I could have eaten 10! I also recommend the chicken and jeweled rice both absolutely delicious, with a pronounced saffron taste (if you don't like saffron, definitely skip these). I only wish I had space for dessert. I was at this popular Levant restaurant with a group a couple of days ago. The inside was bustling…read moreand pretty loud, but not so loud that I had difficulty hearing. Our waitress was friendly and gave us some pretty good recommendations outside of the entrees, as I would avoid ordering the kebabs next time. A couple of us got drinks, and mine was the Tangier, a $17 cocktail with grapefruit, lemon, pilsner, Cocchi Americano, and fino sherry. In short, this was a tasty, fancy version of a shandy. Another person loved the summery $18 Watermelon Gazoz, with baby watermelon juice, lemon, dry vermouth, and brut sparkling wine, which had a couple of pieces of watermelon in it. The server recommended one bread per dip, so we decided to share two dips and two breads, which was filling and tasty. My preference of the two dips was the $12 Not Your Average Hummus, with marinated chickpeas and bang bang shata, or shatta, a popular hot chili paste throughout the Levant. The hummus had a wonderful texture, being closest to the level of Laser Wolf or Ayat, with the chickpeas cooked down enough to be soft but not so much that they lacked texture. The green shata on top added a slight salty and spicy kick. The other choice for the same price was the Matbucha, a dip made from roasted eggplant, charred tomato, pepper, mint, and cilantro. It had some nice smoky elements with a little bit of heat. For breads, my easy preference was the $13 Frena, a Moroccan bread with garlic and oregano. The bread had a soft inside and a slightly chewy outside, and while I preferred the more charred version at Frena, the restaurant of the same name, the roasted garlic was a nice touch. There was also the decent Laffa for $12, a grilled flatbread topped with preserved lemon butter, dill, sumac, and sea salt. I found the texture less interesting, and it was a bit messy due to the lemon butter, but the thick texture worked well enough for both dips. My main dish of choice was, unfortunately, the $29 Lamb Kebab, with baharat-spiced potatoes, whipped goat cheese, shishito, Castelvetrano, and chili. For pros, I liked all of the accompaniments, though I wish the potatoes had a bit more spice, even if they were well roasted. However, the portion felt a bit dainty, with five small pieces, and the lamb just wasn't cooked well. First, while it looked good, the meat was quite dry. More importantly, the lamb was not sliced against the grain properly before being put onto the shish, resulting in every piece being extremely chewy from muscle fibers unless it was cut into very tiny pieces, which I preferred doing over choking. Combined with the price point, I pretty much hated my main dish and didn't finish it as I got tired of cutting the lamb. Others found the Grass-Fed Steak Shish Kebab, which was the same price as my dish, decent, but they also preferred the appetizers. As an ending, two of us decided to each get one of their Instagram-famous sundaes, because when in Rome (or greater Syria). We both went with The Mic Drop for $15, with tahini soft serve, halva floss, hazelnut, and pomegranate reduction. The soft serve was light, with a bit of sweetness and some nuttiness, while the floss halva/pişmaniye added some texture, though it was overall a tad messy. I loved the roasted hazelnuts throughout, and the reduction added some sourness, which the other person disliked, but I enjoyed it. It was overall a nice mix, but it reminded me of a worse version of the silan dessert from Dagon on the UWS, which has more textures, has a more balanced flavor, and is less messy overall. I have slight food regrets with this restaurant, as I was originally going to get either the Fish in a Cage or one of the other small plates. Outside of the bad entree, we had a good meal here, and I can see why others like this place a lot. I prefer them heavily, at least compared to their sister spot, Shuka, as the spices and flavors are much more pronounced.

We were lead upstairs to a table. There were 7 of us The seating was cozy but not cramped. We started with 7 family style small dishes: Hummus with Falafel Pops (chickpea purée, tahini, falafel, olive oil), Spring Burrata (roasted cherry tomatoes, toast, basil oil), Hamachi Crudo (passionfruit vinaigrette, citrus zest, cucumber, mint, sesame tuile), Scallops (carrot puree, serrano pepper, brown butter sauce), Tenderloin Skewer (zaatar chimichurri, fresh herb salad), and Shiitake Stuffed Grape Leaves (tomato coulis, yogurt foam, herbs). Everything was delicious. The hummus was well seasoned the falafel had a nice crunch. It went well with the warm puffy gyro bread that came to the table. The burrata was wasm and creamy. I love the vinaigrette on the fish. I ended up eating most of it. The scallops were the sweetest, most tender ones I have ever had. The tenderloin skewers were tender and well seasoned. I liked the grape leaves but the rice consistency was very soft almost mushy and you can barely tell there were mushrooms. There was barely any mushrooms flavor. Next we all chose an entree. I got the duck breast, my husband and daughter each had the beef tenderloin. The duck breast was smaller than i expected. The skin was nicely seared and very crispy but boy did it give my jaw a workout. It was done medium rare. It was juicy but tough. The small beef tenderloin was tender and smoky. The waiter poured the sauce over the tenderloin for added flavor. Finally dessert was a fruit plate with ice cream and pudding. The fruit was fresh and the flavors of the ice cream and pudding unique. It was a nice end to a good brunch. The price was a little expensive at $85 a person.
