It's right across from Grand Central and feels like classic NYC with the velvet seat booths and dim table lamps. I came for dinner at 6 on a Friday and there were plenty of seats. The server was very nice and attentive. I got the spiked lemonade, chicken pot pie, and tiramisu. The spiked lemonade was tart and had passion fruit purée. Food was tasty. Stopped in for lunch. Thankfully it wasn't too crowded, so service was pretty fast. Had the lobster bisque (special for the day) and the roasted chicken. My friend had the shrimp escargot. Everything tasted ok. I had pretty low expectations for the bisque but it was decent. The chicken is as soft and juicy as ever, and the shrimp was nice. This isn't top of the line, run home and tell your mama about it, finger licking goodness, but I'd definitely go again. read more

Since this is a dinner under a bridge, this location feels like somewhere you could insider trade, or have an affair, or even tinder swindle. This doesn't mean it's dumpy, it's pretty well kept together. It just has that financial crime / affair vibe, in my opinion. I had the Salmon Benedict which was pretty good, I also had a black coffee and some ice water. Everything was pretty good, and im not a breakfast guy. I've either driven past Pershing Square or hopped on a yellow cab, a gazillion times- but never really noticed it. Right in the middle of the Grand Central construction mess, Pershing Square is a funked out spot, with a cool 1920ish Art Deco groove. Once you get past the uninviting "foyer", Pershing opens up to an in-your-face style: Subway beams and red walls, pop all over. And that herringbone ceiling, just ties everything together. Simply put, Pershing, has all the elements of chic. My Shrimp "Escargots" and Mr. Man's Crabcakes with a Black Bean Salad were nicely done. What also did it for me, was that freaking Hot Chocolate. I was skeptical in the beginning but our server's key words were 'thick' and 'Valrhona Chocolate'-and then she had me at thick. Location, location, location! Outside Grand Central Station a civilized place to stop for a drink and nibbles before hopping a train. Tables are well spaced, service is quick and--unlike the other nearby drinks places--you don't need to shout over the din. Hummus platter was enough for two and complemented the wine. Great location, great place, great service, great food. I had a burger and NY cheesecake, my colleagues had steaks and tiramisu and vanilla with chocolate chips ice cream. The only negative comment came out of any of us was about the tiramisu. My colleague said that he's had a much better one before. Their NY cheesecake is one of the best ones that I've ever had. A bit overpriced, but it's in the middle of the city next to grand central. Plus, some movies took place here. read more

We were originally seated right next to the bussing station, even though the place was relatively empty, and had to yell over the sound of plates/utensils being thrown into the bin. I spoke to the hostess about moving to another table and she seemed... unsure? Had dinner here last week and thought that the quality of the food was much better than when I had been in the past. (My last review was in 2013, but I'd eaten there any number of times since then, all pre-pandemic and had, candidly, grown less and less impressed by the food.) This time, I thought the food was really excellent. I had the French onion soup and the a grilled shrimp special served with risotto. The soup was more flavorful than soups I've had at other restaurants, though I thought there could have been more cheese. (I tend to like my French onion soup with cheese melting onto the sides of the bowl, but this cheese was a tame square confined to the interior of the circle. Tasty and melted, just not overflowing.) The shrimp and risotto dish was excellent. Would order it again in a flash. My friend had the Waldorf salad, and liked it a lot. It was a very generous portion too. Actually both dishes were. Wheelchair accessibility note: There's a ramp up to the restaurant entry and a large seating area on the main level. (Some areas with booths are up a couple steps on each side.) The main bathrooms are up a couple of steps, but from a long ago visit, I know that there's a wheelchair accessible bathroom off to the side by the end of the pastry counter, between the front seating area and the back area. When someone needed to use it -- ok, as much as a decade ago -- there was a lot of stuff being stored nearby that had to be relocated before the accessible bathroom could be accessed. I didn't think to check on this visit whether there was easier access now. read more

Had a late breakfast here after an early morning flight into New York. Fun location, across the street from Grand Central Station. Service was friendly. We were seated quickly. Coffee was strong, as it should be! I had the omelette, which came with breakfast potatoes and toast. No complaints. Other orders at our table included the oatmeal, the smoke salmon and bagel, as well as the Brioche French toast, which came with bacon. It was really good. Nice cinnamon flavor. Could've had a little more fruit with it, but overall it was really very good. Everyone in our party enjoyed their meal. This place is convenient, we were meeting two of our friends who were taking the train into the city for the day. I came here with a party of four, and we were seated as soon as the host noticed us. Not sure where the host was, but it took a while for him to notice us. The staff here were all extremely harried and I don't know why, this place wasn't particularly crowded, but maybe they were understaffed. We had trouble finding someone to ask about getting our water glasses and coffee cups refilled. I ordered the eggs benedict, and it was fine, nothing to write home about. We are in NYC and there are so many brunch places, if I'm going to go to brunch and pay that much money then I'd really like to get better eggs. read more

It's an old school location nestled under Pershing Bridge and on foot over the road from Grand Central Station on 42nd street. Great ambience for a relaxed Sunday brunch / lunch experience. Tried the chicken pot pie which the establishment claims is the greatest in NYC. Personally it was a very good chicken pot pie but I always feel that the greatest pies have pastry not just as a lid but also surrounding the pie filling. That said it hit the spot ! read more

old standby has often been a reliable "go to" near GCT when I have to catch a train. Today was disappointing. Went there for dinner and the so-called bread basket was a few slices of plain white toast. No kidding--not French, Italian, sour dough, not pullman--just white wonda-bread type slices. They didn't have oysters, but the "shrimpgargo" was good. My "classic chicken Caesar" had lots of chicken, a few croutons, b anll) undetectable amount of Caesar dressing. Mostly damp romaine with chicken strips dumped on top. I often meet friends here when I come to "the City" but I am going to have to re-think that. Good food and service nothing spectatcular but if you're looking for a nice spot to eat this is one to check out. We had the braised short ribs and veggie chili. The vegetables that come with the short ribs taste like nothing. No salt no pepper just like they were put in sink water and then slapped on the plate, but the short ribs and potatoes were delicious. The chili is really good as well very spicy though so keep that in mind if that's not your flow. Finally I had a sangria it was $15 and not worth it at all.
