I love Pershing Square (PS). They do some things very well like the shrimpcargo ( shrimp in an escargot try served with breading, butter and herbs). They also have an excellent Tuna nicoise and the burgers bring you to a Parisian brasserie. Its the business persons go to place for business breakfast but reservations are a must otherwise you will be relegated to purgatory in the form of a very long line. The staff are a hit/miss proposition. Some a great while others are clueless perhaps thinking about what went wrong at the last audition rather than serving the patron. Typical diner in convenient location next to Grand Central Station. Came here for breakfast which is difficult screw up and they didn't screw it up. The over medium eggs, corned beef and hash, eggs Benedict and pancakes were all nicely done. The corned beef is worth noting because you can see the strips of quality tender meat and perfectly seasoned. The decor, especially the ceiling with metal trestles, gives you a sense of the subway/railway theme which is a nice extension of the Grand Central Station. Service was decent and friendly. Went to have lunch at Pershing Square after a midday meeting nearby. I'd heard a lot of good things about this place so I figured I'd give it a try. The waitstaff was very attentive and friendly. They seemed determined to make me feel at home since I was dining alone. A nice lady came by with a bread tray and let me pick out the rolls I wanted to try. Their onion roll was amazing! It was crusty on the outside yet soft and fluffy on the inside. I also tried half a biscuit. That was ok, too hard and dry for my taste though. I ordered a French onion soup which was absolutely perfect. The caramelized onions in the soup were full of a sweet, mellow flavor that contrasted nicely with the hearty slab of cheese on top. This was so good I finished every last drop. Quite possibly the best French Onion I've ever had! I also ordered a salad. This was just ok, not at all memorable in a good way. The greens were cut too big and I had to recut them with the shoddy knife I had been given. The tossing was uneven, some spots had gobs of dressing while others were completely bare. Also the croutons were HUGE. When I tried to cut one in half to eat it, it flew off my plate. Needless to say, I stayed away from the rest of the croutons. Price-wise, this was not a bad choice for lunch, $23 for the soup, salad and a diet coke. In total with tip and all, $28. If you're in the area, give this place a try. We came here on a monday, as my gf was waiting to catch a shuttle bus to the airport. This was the closest place, and judging from the outside of the front of the place, I didn't think it would be that expensive. Pretty decent, but damn its pricey. 16 bucks for a burger? Almost every single entree for lunch was expensive, so you'll probably spend like 30+ bucks a person for lunch. We should have looked at the menu and went and ate in the food court terminal at grand central station. That would have been a more frugal choice, but it was the end of our Valentines/Presidents day weekend, so why not end it with a bang. We were there on a tuesday, and the line was long to be seated, so we just skipped it and sat right at the bar. It was a good call, as about 15 min later people were still standing waiting to be seated. Good food here, but nothing spectacular. We're sure Gen. "Black Jack" Pershing would be proud to have his name attached to this American brasserie under the Park Avenue viaduct . Located right across 42nd Street from Grand Central Station, it is a combination coffee shop, bar, diner or whatever else you might imagine. Late night meals, breakfasts anytime, burgers, you name it, they've got it, and it all seems to be pretty tasty. We had some scrambled eggs with crispy bacon and neatly buttered toast, corned beef hash (chunky and good, made in the restaurant), a burgers with crunchy, lightly salted fries, and some pasta. Amazingly, it all came up tasty and was served very quickly. This place is nothing if not diverse. The service is to-the-point, prices moderate (burger and fries was $16) and the atmosphere lively if potentially very noisy. They also make a pretty spicy Bloody Mary. Not one of NYC's best, but a if you're around Grand Central, it's worth a stop; lots of tourists and natives do. read more

On my recent trip to NYC, I took advantage of a rainy Thursday by checking out Grand Central Terminal to stay out of the downpour but take in some good NYC atmosphere. After finishing up in GCT, I thought I would try to go over to Cipriani's for a late lunch...denied, closed for private party. So I took my hunger to the nearest place I could stumble to in my deep hunger (feel the drama), Pershing Square. Not a bad place, nestled under a bridge (nice since it was pouring rain), and lit up very distinctly with bright light signs. Even though they seemed to have a good crowd, there was space for me...great, no wait, I needed no wait. Looking at their menu, it's a pretty good choice of different things, standard cafe type fare with some surprises here and there. However, the prices are not cheap, no way to dance around that one (even expecting it being on a trip). I ordered the house made ricotta ravioli with pomodoro sauce. It was ok, not bad...but for 16 bucks for the entree alone at lunch I think I was expecting a lot more than ok. It did the trick, saved everyone around me from my hungry mode. Savored a bit more time with some coffee, then paid my bill. Service did ok for a crowded lunch, no surprises or hiccups to report. Bottom line: It's an ok place. For the price though, I was expecting a bit more. Would I stop in again if I was hungry like that day? Yep, probably so. read more

I really don't see any reason to come here with all the other options in the nearby vicinity. Not very hungry, the two of us split a turkey burger with fries. Granted, turkey burgers aren't the most exciting thing, but this one was particularly underwhelming. Both the burger and fries were overcooked and dry. Blah! I was surprised by the mixed reviews, because we had a good time and thought the food was right up there where it should be. I'm a picky eggs benedict person, and they were great: Canadian bacon was good, Hollandaise was fresh, and the eggs were perfectly poached. My daughter's pancakes were delicious, so no complaints there. My husband and our friend also had eggs benedict, although my husband chose the smoked salmon, and thought it was delicious. We each ordered a pot of tea and enjoyed our conversation. Service was good, brisk, but not brusque. I was glad no one hovered, I hate that when I'm trying to have a good conversation. We waited on line for about 10 minutes after our 9:40 arrival, which wasn't bad. They wouldn't take reservations for the morning brunch, but I'm glad we took the chance and went. I came here one day for breakfast to catch up with a friend. I got in a little before 10am and I was waiting for her to arrive. The place was not super busy but they kept moving me around while I was still waiting for my friend. Around 10:50am, the waiter said I had to order before 11am [in addition to the hot chocolate I was having] otherwise I wouldn't be able to get breakfast and there is an hour in between that the kitchen didn't serve food which was a bit weird. After I ordered for both of us, the food took a while to come out around 20 minutes. My eggs were pretty good and my friend was pretty happy with her pancakes. I had ordered another hot chocolate, which was really good. The only thing that really annoyed me and why I took off 2 stars, was that our waiter was completely confused. He bought out things we didn't ask for, gave our drinks to the table next to us, charged us for things we didn't order and didn't charge us the correct prices for the things we did order. read more

A nicely appointed room in a unique location occupying the full space beneath the overpass leading to the upper level of Grand Central Terminal. The exposed-rivet steel beams carry across just enough of the style of GCT across the street to tie the place together. They serve brunch until 3:00 pm on weekends. My late-brunch egg-white omelet was surprisingly fluffy and well-made, if not inexpensive. The accompanying housemade strawberry jam was quite good too, as was the coffee. One off-note in an otherwise decent dining experience: they weren't able to do an egg white fritata, as the fritatas were pre-made at 6:00 A.M. So I'd only try the fritata if I were dining early. All in all, a respectable and convenient weekend brunch choice for those coming into the City via Grand Central on the weekend. read more

It was below mediocre with very dry chicken and we counted 2 croutons. I had the potato leek soup. Worst decision ever. I worked at a restaurant for 3 years that served a frozen brand of hash browns. I'm not kidding-this soup was made out of these hash browns plus they threw a handful of the frozen shreds in the frier and put them on top of the soup calling them "potato straws". The inside brings you into a different world when you come inside with the softly lit lights and decor. It's at a great location right outside of Grand Central so if you're on the go, this is a great place to stop (there's also a bar on side). It looks small from the outside however once you come in, there are plenty of tables in the back area. The staff is very quick so if you're trying to get-in, get-up you'd like this place. Brioche french toast (served with bacon) $19 On the platter you have three large french toasts coated with powdered sugar with a side of bacon. Additionally you have a few blueberries, strawberries and caramelized banana pieces next to some syrup. The French toast is nice and thick so it fills you up. Coffee (can be flavored) $3.50 It's a small cup of coffee (too damn small) provided with some milk on the side. If you want any flavorings like french vanilla, you can ask them prior to ordering. read more

The appeal of this place is location and the ambiance. It's elegant seems to belong in another era from cutlery to servers uniform will remind you of traditional diners from the past. The prices are $$$ for a diner I ordered all the breakfast which consisted of waffle or pancakes of your choice, OJ and coffee which totaled for $24. You can't just order pancakes they will charge you $24. The food was decent, ambiance is cute. I would return on a snowy day to grab some coffee or coco and enjoy the grand central view and holiday vibes. Otherwise their are plenty of diners and cafes with better prices and quality of food. This is my mum's absolute go-to for breakfast/lunch in NYC. Firstly, the location is unparalleled - just opposite Grand Central. I always get a variation of the eggs, which I can never fault. My mum is a bit more adventurous and has tried a wide variety of the menu, and only has positive things to say about everything she has tried. She's also a huge coffee fan, and claims that the stuff at Pershing's is the best going. The ambience here is wonderful, and the staff ever so helpful. read more

The location of this restaurant was excellent. The ambiance of the interior was really very elegant. We went here for breakfast just before touring around Grand Central Station. Two people in our group had eggs over easy, fresh orange juice and tea after breakfast. One person had salmon with a bagel(he stated that it was excellent) and one person had pancakes with orange juice. The orange juice was great. The coffee... um... not so great. service was excellent. This place looked great on the outside it has a great outside but looks are deceiving. Pros : My wife is a tea snob and wes impressed with the tea. The food came out supper quick. The place was supper cute. Cons: Front hostess was absent. She was there and greeted us, but then grabbed menus and took off didn't ask us to follow juts left. I felt like staying there to see how long she would walk until she noticed we weren't there. On our way we were cut off by two separate table cleaners who almost ran us over...not excuse me customers go first. Food was okay but the potatoes were deep fried. I ordered a kale cesear salad for and it was awful , it was the size of a side salad and had so much dressing on it that I could not eat it . The croutons ( that I could find were the size of peas ) My friend ordered a chicken panini and there was one small piece of chicken Pricey for what we got and I guess that it survives on tourists , but I will never go back and I live here . Sad that the quality is so bad as it is large clean and socially distanced with great customer service . They need to reevaluate the kitchen and what they are serving . I haven't been to Pershing Square for a few years, so I can only comment on my experiences from awhile back. It's a good-sized place with a wonderful interior; like a throwback to an elegant era. I went there a few times with a friend and the service was always excellent & friendly. I confess, though, that we never ate anything; we only went there for drinks. (12/16/12): Today (a Sunday), I met seven people there in mid-afternoon for coffee/tea (and dessert for a few people) and we really enjoyed it. Our server was a very pleasant young guy, and he was both attentive & unobtrusive when warranted. Price-wise, Pershing Square is on the high side - but it's a lovely place in a great location and they quickly moved two small tables together for us (larger tables [along the wall] are for those who order food). We ended up staying there for about 2 1/2 hours, and it was a delightful place to be on a cold/rainy weekend day. read more

I went with a friend who lives not too far from this neighborhood. I wasn't really expecting much, so I was pleasantly surprised when it turned out to be better than I'd expected. We went for dinner and got seated right away. This was over a holiday weekend so I'm sure that had something to do with it. it was pretty quiet in there actually. I had the chicken pot pie, which was delicious. I had my leftovers wrapped up, and it tasted delicious when warmed up the next day too. My friend had the hangar steak salad, which looked good. She also got a slice of coconut cream pie, which she shared with me (yum). I had a pot of herbal tea (the cinnamon one).
