I ordered the Jasmine Coffee Dream and wow, I was pretty impressed at the quality and richness of the flavors! If it's your first time and you are feeling coffee, I would highly recommend that one! Had this coffee shop in the Fishtown area bookmarked for a while. It is worth the trek. The barista with the cute thick rimmed black eyeglasses was extremely friendly, hospitable and patient. He enthusiastically greeted each person that came in. It is a small shop with limited seating. I am a persimmon lover so my decision was an easy one, I had the Persimmon Leaf Tea that has notes of natural wine and roasted squash. It was absolutely wonderful and perfect on this 34 degree day. My son had a seasonal drink called Midwinter Memory. It had cranberry bitters and was topped with yuzu rind powder. He loved it. Since persimmons are one of my most favorite fruits to eat, I just had to ask the barista why this coffee shop had the name persimmon. The co-owner is Korean. Persimmons hold a prominent place in traditional Korean culture which represent good fortune and wealth. If you have never had one, do yourself a favor and try one. Very unique coffee drinks. We tried the flash brew which is their iced coffee and the cloud dancer which is a coffee mixed drink. Cloud dancer was so unique. It had a really nice foam cream on top. A small store with limited seating. It is a very well lit space and had clean and homey vibes. When I arrived, it was clear that some of the other customers were regulars and friends with the baristas - a good reflection on their service and food. I got the Endless Summer special which tasted almost like a miso cookie with a tad of rosemary if I tried to search for it. I wish the rosemary flavor was stronger. SPRING FOG $6 - a darker white tea with apricot, honey, and heather notes. I typically don't like white tea because I feel it's too sweet but maybe because this one is darker I didn't feel that way. I'm not sure how this place has such great reviews. I came here recently and was so excited based on the pictures and reviews and it left a lot to be desired. It is right beneath the L-train and the door is right off the street. It is very minimally decorated inside and feels so sparse. I thought this was a coffee shop, but it's definitely not a place I'd want to get my coffee and sit around. Maybe I'd have liked it more if I got my coffee to go and drank it on the run, but it just was not the vibe I was looking for. I think I also tried the wrong drink and it was a bit too odd for me. The coffee is expertly made and tastes great. However when I went there was only one person working in the whole place and so service was very slow. Had to wait 10+ minutes for coffee for 2 people. I love to hang out and enjoy my coffee but seating was limited and not that comfy? Just flat benches around the walls. The space is minimalist, which I love, but quite uncomfortable to stay and sit to drink your coffee. The tables are super lightweight, from ikea, I believe, and you can accidentally tip it over easily. Weckerly's was one of my fav places in Philly and now this is another one of my favs and I'm so glad they're next to each other I tried the winter coffee with oat milk and OMG soooo good. Really tasted like a cup of winter. Also got a cup of the iced corn tea and that was good... As I was drinking my cup of coffee I instantly wanted to go back and order like three more for my drive... lol but I didn't have a large cup and I had to eat all the ice cream I got from weckerly's... but I will be back every time I visit now lol... Such a cute coffee shop in Philly! A few seats along the walls which makes it a nice place to casually catch up with people. Their drinks are so innovative. Their foolish tiger really stood out. It's a latte with persimmon and ginger syrup, cinnamon, black walnut bitters and maple syrup. I love ginger but was a bit hesitant because I wasn't sure how the blend of persimmon and the other flavors would work. However, it was delicious!! I loved how strong but not overly spicy the ginger was and the other flavors made the latte taste very warm without being overly sweet. There is a small selection of pastries but it does not seem to be the focus. It was pretty busy but moved quick on a Saturday. A great place for a coffee! read more

They have the most minimalistic and relaxing space to come and enjoy a drink with a friend or solo. The beverage and pastry selection is small but delicious - a focus on quality over quantity. While I've heard rave reviews of the actual coffee, I was in the mood for an iced matcha latte this morning, and it hit the spot. The pastry selection was slightly off-menu due to a supplier issue, so I got to try a phenomenal choco-chip crème croissant-like pastry that they don't normally have. Persimmon coffee is innovating coffee in Philadelphia and I'm excited to see the business grow. I truly tasted unique coffee when I ordered an americano. The experience of their coffee starts with the smell. Unlike regular coffee, it smells sweeter. Then when you sip the coffee, the coffee feels light with a subtle fruity flavor. It was a delightful experience! I'm not sure what beans they're using or how they're brewing the coffee, but it's unlike most coffees in Philadelphia. Went after wanting to try for months. It's cute and cozy, just around the corner from the Septa MFL station. Milk was well steamed and poured, the beans were fine but not my favorite in Philly. Prefer a more bold flavor. They only have 2 choices of milk which for a coffee bar with a fairly small menu, makes no sense. Do a few things well yes, I have no problem with a craft coffee place, but the new wave of sorry we only serve whole milk or oat because that's the only way we like to serve it is BS. Some people want to appreciate an espresso drink without needing it to be a heavy indulgence. The coffee isn't standout good enough to warrant that. read more

Persimmon Coffee is an adorable coffee shop in the Fishtown area, located off of Girard Station if you're taking the MFL. I tried the Fall specialty drink, which was a latte with a persimmon and ginger syrup and black walnut if I remember correctly! There were also some other flavors, but I forget! Once you get to the counter to order, they have a sign with the drink and all the flavors and stuff... and they don't just list all the flavors and notes to be fancy and sound cool; you can literally detect each of the delicate flavors. I was very impressed. Such a well crafted recipe that was not too sweet. However I do remember the espresso being ever so slightly bitter, but overall not a big deal. The biggest disappointment I had with the latte was the fuzzy latte art design. You can see that the shape is not very precise, and the heart itself has very few of those eye catching striations. Normally I wouldn't be so picky about aesthetics, but I do think the experience of drinking a latte at a cafe is partially a visual one. On the coffee shop's IG account, you can see the latte art they are capable of! So that's partially why I was somewhat disappointed with the visuals when I went. At the end of the day, I'd rather the visuals be off than the taste, so I'm only docking minor points for the latte art. 4.3/5 would be a truer rating, but it rounds to a 4! read more

A cute coffee shop in Fishtown! After hearing about Persimmon from our social media followings of Weckerly's, we definitely wanted to try them outl. We biked here from Grad Hospital on a warm summer day - it's conveniently located right on Girard Ave, so it's easy to pop by Persimmon for coffee and then another spot for breakfast if you would like. The ambience is absolutely lovely - lots of clean, white space with the perfect balance of plants and motivational signage. I could definitely see myself hanging out here for a while reading or working. A great vibe. There were a few other patrons at the shop when we arrived, but we were easily served without too much wait. We both opted for the Japanese flash brewed ice coffee (shout to the employee for explaining it to us!), which was a unique offering that hit the spot. It was refreshing for the warm day and stronger than most coffees, which was needed. I appreciated that oat milk was an option for an additive, so I cashed in on that. They had a number of specialty coffees and drinks that showcased local and unique flavors, and their hot chocolate is sourced from our loved Weckerly's, so I certainly want to make it back to try some of these other menu items. Would also love to try a pastry next time, too! We will definitely visit Persimmon again when in the Fishtown area, and we would recommend it for anyone looking for a quaint and modern local coffeeshop. read more
