Persimmon Coffee is an adorable coffee shop in the Fishtown area, located off of Girard Station if you're taking the MFL. I tried the Fall specialty drink, which was a latte with a persimmon and ginger syrup and black walnut if I remember correctly! There were also some other flavors, but I forget! Once you get to the counter to order, they have a sign with the drink and all the flavors and stuff... and they don't just list all the flavors and notes to be fancy and sound cool; you can literally detect each of the delicate flavors. I was very impressed. Such a well crafted recipe that was not too sweet. However I do remember the espresso being ever so slightly bitter, but overall not a big deal. The biggest disappointment I had with the latte was the fuzzy latte art design. You can see that the shape is not very precise, and the heart itself has very few of those eye catching striations. Normally I wouldn't be so picky about aesthetics, but I do think the experience of drinking a latte at a cafe is partially a visual one. On the coffee shop's IG account, you can see the latte art they are capable of! So that's partially why I was somewhat disappointed with the visuals when I went. At the end of the day, I'd rather the visuals be off than the taste, so I'm only docking minor points for the latte art. 4.3/5 would be a truer rating, but it rounds to a 4! read more

They make by far the best espresso in Philadelphia and are easily a step above all other high end coffee places in the city. The staff are friendly as well and they have a nice little seating area where you can drink your coffee from a little ceramic cup. read more

A cute coffee shop in Fishtown! After hearing about Persimmon from our social media followings of Weckerly's, we definitely wanted to try them outl. We biked here from Grad Hospital on a warm summer day - it's conveniently located right on Girard Ave, so it's easy to pop by Persimmon for coffee and then another spot for breakfast if you would like. The ambience is absolutely lovely - lots of clean, white space with the perfect balance of plants and motivational signage. I could definitely see myself hanging out here for a while reading or working. A great vibe. There were a few other patrons at the shop when we arrived, but we were easily served without too much wait. We both opted for the Japanese flash brewed ice coffee (shout to the employee for explaining it to us!), which was a unique offering that hit the spot. It was refreshing for the warm day and stronger than most coffees, which was needed. I appreciated that oat milk was an option for an additive, so I cashed in on that. They had a number of specialty coffees and drinks that showcased local and unique flavors, and their hot chocolate is sourced from our loved Weckerly's, so I certainly want to make it back to try some of these other menu items. Would also love to try a pastry next time, too! We will definitely visit Persimmon again when in the Fishtown area, and we would recommend it for anyone looking for a quaint and modern local coffeeshop. read more

A lot of coffee places try to make their drinks unique but they usually fall flat and end up being syruped versions of one another. Not this place. I had a drink called Cloud Dancer (I think) which was fantastic. Ginger beer with coffee? Who knew. Highly recommended. Staff was amazing as well. read more

The coffee here is great. I tried the winter specialty drink, which had rosemary syrup and some sort of bitter - it tasted like the holidays in a cup, and the delicious roast-y flavor of the coffee was elevated, rather than masked, by the additional ingredients. The staff were really friendly, and I was excited to see that they source their baked goods from the pastry guy at Bloomsday, who makes the best French pastries in Philly! While I was there, a small child asked the staff why the shop was named "persimmon", and I didn't catch the full answer (I think it had something to do with persimmons requiring a lot of time and care to grow and produce fruit), but I thought it was really sweet that the staff took the time to give such a considered, well-articulated response. The space is small - seating exists, but is not plentiful, and the accompanying tables are low. It reminds me more of coffee shops I've been to across northern Europe, where people might catch up over coffee, but you wouldn't find anyone sitting for long periods of time on their laptops. Overall, a great place to stop in for a well-made cup of coffee, and I'm looking forward to buying a bag of their beans next time to enjoy at home. read more

Back with a good old matcha review! Checked out @persimmoncoffee in Fishtown and have some thoughts. The guy who worked there was SO nice and truly a one man show. I thought it was slightly odd they only had the option of whole or oat milk lol but I went with oat because we didn't need to see how the whole milk treated my tummy. It was overall pretty good and I would go back. The interior was also SO aesthetically pleasing and would be great for a cute insta pic. Overall I only took off a point because the milk choices and my matcha definitely could've used a stronger matcha flavor but I liked it! read more

Decided to swing by here on my way back to NY and was pleasantly surprised by the quality of my coffee and the service. Not only was the coffeeshop super cute, but the staff were great, even giving me recommendations on a few others to check out next time I was passing through town. Highly recommend showing them some love and stopping by to buy some beans or a cup of coffee. So nice to see good coffee making its way to more and more US citifies. read more

But they also include creative seasonal specials on their menu that's refreshingly unique when you're looking to try something new. Persimmon is simply the best - you are typically served by the owners themselves and always offered kindness. I believe the seating in the space is specifically not in an American style, and while I'm not partial to it I can respect the choice. I would probably spend a lot of time here if there were tables/chairs available and that is possibly a reason they don't exist! So instead I usually suffer through LC down the street to read and write. read more

Great little cafe for a nice quality cup of coffee to get you through your day. This isn't an ordinary, massive cafe where you sit down to do your work. It's a place to grab a coffee and go about your way or sit to briefly chat with your friends or staff. Both staff members were super kind and engaging to make me feel welcomed. I thoroughly enjoyed the vibe. Lattee art was also beautiful but forgot to take a picture. Love the new addition to the neighborhood. Definitely recommend! read more

Stopped by close to closing time not expecting to make it but wanted to try my luck just in case. The owners were very kind and let me in to grab one last drink! I tried their signature drink, the Cloud Dancer, being intrigued by what it was. I was so pleasantly surprised and it was quite refreshing.
