I stopped in on Saturday 3/29/2025 to buy a poop scooper/rake and an outdoor water bowl. The store: well stocked, organized and clean. The products: The waterbowl was easy to find. I picked a metal one with rubber foot/lining. (The previous one I had was plastic, so in the cold, it cracked and broke). The Poop scooper was a little more challenging to find, as it was tucked into the end back corner at the end of the aisle. The staff: Pretty sparse throughout the store, but there were two cashiers. The male that helped me was very kind and eager to help during check out. Part of me wishes he verified that it was the spade/scoop combo I wanted, but the other half of me said 'it's not up to the staff to check what you are looking to buy'. I have come to this Petco for 2 years now and haven't had any issues. I've shopped many times there and had my dogs nailed trimmed and groomed as well. But I won't ever go to this Petco again. I had a scheduled appointment to get my dogs nailed trimmed and got caught up with work so I completely forgot. They left a voicemail asking to possibly reschedule. I spoke with a girl named, Harmony. I called back apologizing and explained the reasoning for missing the appt and she seemed sincere, or so I thought... As she was going to hang up, she didn't and went off about how I'm a piece of s**t and I wasted her time even calling back, not realizing I was still on the line. I felt extremely uncomfortable as she was insanely rude and unprofessional. I called back to speak to a manager and his response was, "I'm sorry that happened, we will use this as a training experience". This place is amazing and the employees at both locations in Sparks, NV are not only kind, caring and educated but saved me $1,000s in vet bills. My dog had allergies to chicken and not even the VCA vets who cost me $1,000's and didn't get it right over 4 months! My dog slept the entire night and didn't wake up once licking hot spots after eating the new beef food recommended by technician at store yesterday. We had a pleasant first experience here for nail trims on our pitties which was 100% due to the female who greeted and checked us in. She excelled in customer service. We were not impressed with the male groomer who had zero interaction with us, in fact, he made it a point not to look at us. We decided to book another appointment and it did not go well. Same groomer, the First Lady was not at the front desk. Please hire someone that likes dogs, and please provide them some basic training in customer service. My dog is 10 years old and has been getting his nails trimmed at the other Petco and the vet his whole life. Never have I ever seen him as distraught and uncomfortable as he was yesterday. The store was fine and had some good stuff but we had a bad experience with an employee named Jesica. She brought over a cart so we could load a fish tank and just left it there with us so we loaded the fish tank she came back yelling that we weren't supposed to do that. Had to brave it and go to Petco today. My Bella was down to her last crumb of her dry food. Parking lot looked like any other day. Several customers had on face masks but not all employees did. I basically ran back and got my food and checked out lol. My cashier didn't have a mask but was wiping down his counter space with disinfectant as I came up. He was friendly and offered me hand sanitizer from a dispenser at the counter which I slathered on. ‍ The store was clean and stocked well and business was good but not too many people so I had my space. 5 stars for the aquatics department alone, as of September and October of 2023. The lady with the bright blue eye shadow(wish I knew your name) does an incredible job with the fish, plants and customers. For a chain store the aquatics area is far beyond expectations. Some employees there truly care, and it really shows. I make the trip from Tahoe, passing many other stores, to specifically give this place my business on fish and live plants. We went into Petco while waiting for my daughter to be done somewhere else. We were also looking at small animals to maybe get for our grandson later on down the road, but it's always important to find out what a child's reaction to an animal is going to be before you even think about buying one, but we wanted to see what his reaction was to different animals. Mice are too small obviously, he likes to watch them run around, but we didn't want to take one out, hamsters are kind of delicate, but we couldn't find any rats, and we used to raise rats, so we thought he'd really like to see one, and nobody was even around to get a chinchilla out so that he could touch it. A lot of the shelves were empty, the narrow isles, I doubt could even fit a wheelchair, and it was dirty. Not just dirty because dogs go through there, we love to see the dogs, but when I moved my foot on the floor, it made a grinding sound because of all the dirt on the floor, and that seem to be almost everywhere in the store we went. Disgusting! I don't know if the AC was broken, but it was hot in there too. Those poor animals! read more

Buyer Beware Petco policy - refused to take back and refund my money on $50 worth of Puppy supplies. Their reason is I returned to many items. I purchased many items for my new Puppy that either did not fit. Most of them were returned and I replaced with another item in a different size. This policy is not posted in the store. Oh, I could have went on Amazon and bought my little 5 pound Chihuahua a vest like the picture below, but I chose to patronize a brick and mortar store near me. I like shopping where I can help out the local places and not all the time online. Well, now I know why I do shop online more often than not, I walk into Store and the skinny girl behind the counter never even looked up from her phone as she was so busy texting. The aisles were so cluttered with things to put away on the shelf I could've found a lot of things for her to do instead. I was standing over by the leashes forever, and I asked her if they had one that went around her whole body with Velcro and she says no, and goes back to her phone frantically. I must've looked for 15-20 minutes in the same spot, and it was horrible. Everything was so out of place and such a mess. I went around to the next aisle and sure enough I found one with Velcro and also a snap but I wanted the one with the Velcro as she will wiggle out of a collar. I turned around and said yes you do you have Velcro, she was so engrossed in her phone she had no idea I was even there. Listen little one, put away all that stuff in the basket right there instead of looking at your phone, I was really peeved and wanted to leave but my dog needed a vest. The guy came in that was the manager, and I swear to God he told her she was fired, I turned around and smiled then she was whining to him and really bitchy about everything right in front of customers. I walked around the corner to the other aisle and a lady with colored hair like purple and blue, was talking to this girl in a not so nice tone, and I thought wow she's in trouble again. So she said, your dog is so little try the cat aisle. I really wanted to go down the aisle that they were in but they were in a heated conversation. If I would have been the boss, I would've escorted that little skinny girl right out the door. Manager came over a few minutes later and said are you finding everything you need? And I said yes thank you and I should've gave him my opinion of how nice it would have been to be waved at when you walk in the door and asked if you need help instead of a young lady engrossed on the phone. Then the girl went back to everyone and was whining about what time her lunchtime was, so they said go to lunch. I proceeded to check out in the front and the lady with the purple hair came over and she was so nice and rung me up. I told her that it would've been nice if the girl would've been not so on her phone when I walked in and helped me, I helped myself find the Velcro vest. She said I should tell the manager about this girl as they all tell him about her, but he does nothing and she is a very lazy employee while they all work their butts off. Geez, I would not want to work their at that the manager doesn't care about what this girl does and she gets away with being on her phone all day, never wants to work, is lazy, I believe it. Some people know how to work and what hard work is, not all mind you, there were so many carts in the aisles and stuff to put away I would've made her put her phone in a locker. This location is clean and clearly organized. I was able to find what I needed though I was expecting more of a selection for kitty litter boxes, but I think what I got will work out just fine. Employees were super friendly, especially for me coming in on Christmas Eve for some last minute kitty items. Even if I don't have any small pets anymore I like to look at them all when I'm in. They looked happy and as well taken care of as they can be in a Petco. There were lots of dogs being walked and trained when I was in which is always nice to see too. I don't buy pet food here or anything, but I am trying out their litter. I like that you can bring in your container to refill it, though I do wish they had bigger containers (maybe they have some and I just missed them?). I still have to try it out to see how it works, but if it works fine then I'm sure I will be back for more! read more

I haven't been to this place in awhile because the last time I was there, it was (a) filthy and (b) the employees - one of whom CLAIMED to be a manager but I hope to dog she was lying - were ridiculously and loudly rude. This woman claiming to be the manager was ignorant and insulting when I informed her that the bathroom had mold growing in the corners, there was dirty water EVERYWHERE, and it badly needed to be cleaned. She sneered at me and told me that they contracted cleaning the bathroom out once a month. Then she told me I had no room to talk since I hadn't stopped to wash my hands before leaving the bathroom - which was true because (a) I hadn't USED their filthy toilet and (b) there was dirty water all around the sink and all over the countertop. I wouldn't have touched anything in there with a ten foot pole. And how did she know I hadn't stopped to wash my hands? Because the only OTHER employee I saw there piped up with said information. I had seen this woman in the bathroom when I entered and turned right around to leave again. I had assumed she MUST be a customer because she was sloppy, wearing dirty clothes, and her hair was even stringy and greasy and dirty. I swear I have never seen anyone in a business as dirty and sloppy as these two. I have never seen ANY Petco employee in decades in any store in any city who was other than neatly dressed and at least nominally polite. These two were just awful and I have not set foot in that Petco since. Given it is the Petco closest to me and closest to the area I normally shop in, that means I rarely go to any Petco at all any more. I don't even order online from them. I sort of doubt that it is Petco policy to not clean the bathroom but once a month, either, regardless of whether or not they actually do contract that out. It seems a stupid thing to contract out. If there is a spill, do they then just leave it in there until the contractor shows up a month later? Apparently they do at this store. Frankly I think both these women were just lying about the whole thing. I do not for one second believe that Petco as a corporation thinks its ok to only clean the bathroom once a month or to employ workers who can't be bothered to show up to work clean and neatly dressed, let alone ones who go out of their way to belittle and denigrate customers. I am not kidding nor exaggerating, the pair of them looked like they hadn't bathed in at least a week. I sure hope they've fired that pair since the last time I set foot in this store, but I'm not about to visit it again to find out. read more

I don't shop a lot here because the prices are high, I don't use a grooming service, and I wouldn't buy a pet at a pet store, BUT, when I do need a specific item that can't be found at a regular store, I come here. The parking is easy (and it matters to me) There is usually enough staff on the floor to help with questions, ,and they are usually nice and somewhat knowledgeable about where stuff can be found. They have a very nice selection of everything pet related, and if I were not on a budget, this place would be my mecca! My dog always loved coming here for toys too. read more
