I've been to a handful of different Costco's before, but I've never seen this new coconut biscuit for dogs. I actually wanted to try it, but I was sad to read the ingredients had blue and yellow dye in the product. My dogs are getting older now and I don't let them have artificial flavors and they don't mind eating actual real foods That aren't dyed. Everything was clean and nice and organized at this particular place, and the parking lot was easy to access. I should've checked the reviews before calling about grooming services... Was trying to bring my 9 year old Pitbull in JUST for nail trimmings. Spoke with a young lady who at first was very happy to set up an appointment for me but once she started taking my info down she became more distant as I answered her questions. Her voice turned immediately less friendly when I said my dog was a Pitbull...then again when I mentioned she was a 9 year old on joint supplements. I told her I could provide proof of rabies (which is required, totally understandable) and that the supplements were just over the counter, not prescribed. "We're just really strict over here and if she has joint problems, we're gonna be propping her legs up to work on her." Yes...they have no problem doing that at the Petsmart's I've taken her to. And my dog's totally friendly with those techs. The young lady refused to finish making the appointment so...now i know why this place is rated so low. Do not recommend the Vetco vaccinations for cats. Probably okay for dogs. They have it set up in an aisle with no separation from other animals for cats which cat owners know how stressful that can be for them. Despite this stressful environment, if your cat shows any signs of distress or unwillingness to be handled by a complete stranger, they will immediately refuse to provide service. They will SCRUFF your cat out of the carrier. For some reason, they don't let you take your cat out of the carrier and insist they must do it. And like mentioned, if your cat reacts at all to a stranger scruffing them out of the carrier, they will immediately refuse service. Please avoid stressing out your cat and just take them to the vet for their shots where they will be handled with more care. Only giving them 2 stars cause they vaccinated my super friendly easy going cat, but completely rejected my more anxious cat. I've never experienced such rejection read more

I came here to buy toys for my dog, and left feeling utterly disgusted by the conditions they are placing animals in. I found myself walking past rows of animals confined to tiny, barren enclosures. The fish cups were especially heartbreaking, with some of the fish already dead. Seeing living animals treated like products on a shelf was horrifying. The conditions I saw didn't reflect the care and respect these animals deserve. Many of the enclosures looked small, unstimulating, and depressing. And the fact that anyone can come in and purchase animals without a thorough vetting and education process means that so many will continue to be cared for improperly even after leaving the store. What frustrates me most is that Petco promotes pet adoption while continuing to profit from selling birds, reptiles, rodents, fish, and other animals. If the company truly cares about animal welfare, it should stop treating living beings as inventory. I won't be supporting a business that profits from keeping animals in these conditions. I'll be buying my pet supplies elsewhere until Petco ends the sale of live animals. read more

I had a really uncomfortable experience at Petco. I went in with the intention of buying a guinea pig, but instead of being helped, I felt like I was being interrogated. The employee kept questioning me about everything, what I have at home, how big my space is, and more in a way that didn't feel helpful, but rather judgmental. I understand that stores want to make sure animals go to good homes, but this went beyond that. The tone and approach made me feel singled out and honestly racially profiled. I've been going to this Petco for years that it's surprising to have this horrible experience ever. Seeing that I was planning to purchase a betta and its food, I got interrogated re my tank, heat, filtration, etc. by this cashier. Looks like she wanted to sell me a heater and filtration system. Since it's my partner who set it up I was not able to answer all her questions. Instead I was threatened that she cannot have me purchased my betta until I buy the necessary heater and filtration it required. So I declined. Then she asked me if I want to pay for the betta food instead. I replied why should I if there is no betta to feed since she refused to sell it to me. This is the strangest shopping experience I ever have! Petco just lost a loyal customer. There are other fish stores who I am sure will appreciate my business and my family and friends' businesses. Completely disappointed- went in today to take Jax for grooming and groomer rudely told us she could not groom him due to matted condition- I added notes in my appointment that YES dog was matted at the time of booking weeks ago. I loved Laura, a groomer who worked here for several months -- she made my peke a poo look adorable. After she left, it's been a train wreck to get an actual appointment that truly holds (they reschedule all the time), and today the "manager" refused to allow my dog to get groomed because he's "senior." He's also very healthy, very friendly and very cute. Whoever is responsible for the grooming department needs to be fired. I've called so many times and the phone just rings and rings. If you're lucky, you'll be connected to their answering machine but no one will ever call you back. Recently I walked in so I could speak to someone in person. Guess what! They were "fully booked right now" and they told me to call them and make a booking that way. So I called and sure enough, they didn't pick up the call, they disconnected the call, and on my fifth try, I got the answering machine. But again, no one returned my call. This is ridiculous!! I don't know who or why they're playing games over there but I've lost my patience. Official complaint mailed to Departments of Justice - Consumer Complaint against a business / corporation: I went to buy a turtle from Petco location 1313 in San Mateo on Aug 19, 2024. I got everything (tank, light, food...for the turtle) the sales girl recommended which added up over $450. During the contact I asked her questions about the age and gender of the turtle I picked, she could not provide any of the info, so I got a turtle with no any form of identification, or birth record, or the legality of their vendor. When I asked her who was their vendor bc I wanted to find out more info about my. new pet, she gave me three letters "BPD" said that was their vendor. In that same afternoon, I looked up "BPD" on Google, it shows no pet vendor named this but it showed they represent "Borderline Personality Disorder"! I feel insulted and hurt. Also, during the consultation before I paid I pointed out to her that in at least three tanks for their fishes, located right next to the turtle tank, I saw dead, partial fish bodies stuck in the water filters, where other alive fishes swim by, in the same tank. That scene almost made me vomit, and there was a mom and a little girl shopping there too. When I pointed out this problem to her, she just said "Oh" and turned around. If I was a mom, I will feel furious bc I bring my kid here for picking up a pet but if my kid saw this disgusting scene I will definitely worry my young kid will get negative impact in their mind. Obviously this store does not care, neither the cleaners of the place they keep their animals, which are also lives like us humans, nor the impact that might do to the young kids. But I still got and paid for all she recommended and I made a $25 donation at check out for Petco. She recommended me a future 15% off membership and I got it too. When I got home, I found that the food for the turtle is expiring in Oct 2024. Based on my own online research, seems that these turtles must all be purchased from vendor with a license and must show they obtained (fishing) the turtles legally. While none of the Petco employees I contacted with could provide me a full name of the vendor except "BPD", which is a mental disease. The GM even said I was yelling over phone but actually I just politely but firmly asked for what I deserve to know. This GM gave me a number to call for info and it connected me to Petco customer service, again, they know nothing about their vendor. The agent I talked to over the call promised me someone who can help will call me back the next day. I waited for 24 hours, no body contacted me, so I called Petco customer service again. They asked for my email address for follow up, that was 4 pm,, Aug 20, I told her I will only wait un til 9 pm the time the store closes. Now 9 pm, I received ZERO email ZERO call back from any of them. I request full amount refund, for first, I dont trust their service or product no more, based on how they treated consumers; second, I am very angry about how they treat lives, they keep alive and dead fishes in the same tanks and when I pointed out to the sales assistant she showed she did not care. Also, based on my online research combined with my observation on the turtle I got, this poor turtle is very unhealthy bc his shell has a lot of pits and cracks, which indicated this turtle` health condition is bad, and according to his rings on the scutes, he should be around 6-7 years old (the sales assistant told me they got this turtle a few weeks ago) and he should be a male based on the shape and length of his tail. The employee is not well trained, not responsible, nor respectful. So I request full refund, but I still want to take care of this turtle for his health, so I can step back to request the full refund minus the cost of the turtle itself, if needed. I told the customer service all these and they said the conversation was recorded and will be handled, a proven lie bc I called twice, no one followed up back to me as they promised. read more

They 90% of the time have the kibble and treats that I get for my dog which is great since I experience stock issues at other Petco locations. I was just in Petco, and I was appalled by the conditions of the reptile section. The bearded dragon tank was covered in feces. The two bearded dragons were emaciated and literally starving to death. I questioned the staff and they said that the animals had not been fed in a week. Reptiles at this size need to be fed multiple times a day. This is animal abuse at its worst. In the tank next to them were leopard geckos whose tank was also covered in their own feces and starving. I demanded that somebody feed them and did not leave until they did. I can't believe the greed of Petco. Why do you sell animals when they cannot be cared for. Please stop selling reptiles and other small animals. You lost a lifetime customer. read more

This is an innocent question but she took it personally that I somehow was implying she did something wrong, and went off about her personal life and that she can't control her schedule. This is actually one of the few stores I've been to in the Bay Area last 14 years and I'd highly recommended this location for all your pet supplies (esp for your cute doggies). What is hard to find like Rx and Clothes with quality material, this Bridgepoint location has it. It's usually not busy during the Pandemic or whenever I go--staff and cashier(s) are usually friendly. If you do the research and know what you need, it should be an easy find as the aisles are labeled. Also, keep in mind that staff here are also busy and concerned themselves about the pandemic, so don't forget to treat them kindly and speak to them with respect! I really like the people that work here now. The store is finally put together and clean. Everything is unpacked and organized. The employees are super sweet. There's two guys there that I've had the pleasure to speak to (Ricky and some other young man! Sorry I didn't catch his name!). Also really lovely girl who works there during the day time. My partner and I recently adopted our very cute robo dwarf hamster from here. The person that helped us adopt our new pet was very helpful and handled our hamster kindly when transfering her to her carrier box. She also made sure to go over all the basic information we needed to know. I think even before adoption our hamster was treated very well because it did not take long to bond. Or maybe we got lucky! :) But I could tell they take more care than other pet stores since they can differentiate between some of their animals' personalities which was reassuring in our decision. There's also a pretty decent selection of hamster products so we look forward to visiting every now and then to broaden our variety of treats. I am a HUGE fan of Monique from their grooming salon. I don't even live in San Mateo anymore but make the trek out here just to have her style Tobi. She is attentive, thorough, kind, and detailed. She genuinely wants to make your pet looks his/her best and make the owner happy too. I had been going to Petco for a little while now to have Tobi taken care of. I had been to a few locations and not once did they ever ask me what I wanted styled, the length, etc. I had always assumed there was some type of generic cut because it was always a drop off/come back when called type of situation. We've had some atrocious cuts as a result. Then, I met Monique. On my first ever visit, was able to squeeze me in same day and asked me SO many questions about Tobi's style. I was flabbergasted - nobody had ever asked and I didn't know what the numbered lengths meant. She even asked for the type of shampoo and conditioner I wanted to use. She made some suggestions for cuts and told me to be honest and tell her if I totally hated it after. Nobody had ever asked me for feedback. Honestly love her and will always come back. I'll probably follow her if she were to leave. @Petco Management, please find some way for me to include a tip when I pay at the end rather than cash only. Its 2018 - cash is a rarity. So I've been taking my baby here for a while, using a specific groomer because the other available groomers seem to be random employees with little to no experience. Our usual lady has always had a fun rapport with us & although scared our VERY sweet, friendly and calm boy seems comfortable enough with her and in the past she has done a fairly good job on him (Shih Tzu). The last couple times haven't been great. We've noticed nicks here & there, increased mood change upon arrival and sometimes you can tell that either a different person cut his hair or she just really didn't GAF. In fact, I didn't want to bring her our business anymore but had no other choice due other circumstances so my baby has been getting the "home style" haircut for the last couple of months, lol. I clearly am no professional but it is sometimes easier to drop him off & pick him up later all bathed & groomed. I take him in to his appointment, usual banter between the groomer and me and her manager was there as well as a young man very focused on his phone. We discuss the usual and I head out with honestly, a heavy heart because my usually VERY sweet & happy boy gets very still and clings on to me for dear life as we approach the store. I always assumed it was because they crate the animals when they're not working on them and my baby has never been crated but I still took notice of his shy and skittish behavior as I hand him over. I leave and try not to think about it as I have errands to run. About 15-20min later I receive a call from the manager letting me know they are unable to bathe him and give him all the usual treatments because they alleged he has sap on his paw and severe matting so "they can't work on him." Initially I was surprised as he is a "townhouse" dog meaning he rarely goes out in areas with sap trees, sticking more to pathways and sidewalks and he NEVER has matting as I usually bathe and brush him in between appointments. I express my confusion and am told again that they don't service dogs with in that state. I ask then if he's ready and let her know that I'm irritated by this news but I am on my way back. Once I arrive they have my baby on the countertop already and I immediately look at my baby and see that she has already cut his hair so I reach for him and again he grabs on to me for dear life and I wonder what they do to him to make him so scared! He is NOT that dog! He usually holds court and everyone he meets love him! So she's going on and on about their policy and how he has such severe sap and matting that I will need to take him to a vet to have his paw trimmed and I'm looking everywhere for said horrific and medical-attention-requiring-work and yes, he has what looked like a black paw lol, I reiterate that he has never been in areas where sap is present and point out that what's on his foot is either mud or poop! Now she and the manager are waiting to say their piece and she does so by informing me that "as a stylist she has the right to decide when to groom or not & by MY reaction to THEIR judgement she will no longer be grooming my baby in the future as well." I chuckled to myself and let her know that she needn't worry as I wouldn't be bringing him back and in fact- I never wanted to use her services again to being with because the last couple times she did a shitty job on him. Really convenient location and the staff here are super nice. I tend to buy online and pick up in store and the items are ready in a reasonable time. Always look online and have them price match. Unfortunately today I was called "a liar" by the groomer, she implied that I was trying to deceive her by "not disclosing a known health issue," when she asked me. The health check which I filled out, was right on the computer screen in front of her. I made the obvious assumption, that she meant any other "unknown issues to them." I had an appointment with Carmen on 9/24 in the afternoon but was turned away by her rude co-worker that my 8 months old goldendoodle has ear infection and her hair is too matted for them to handle. They suggested she has to be groomed by the vet. I took my dog to another groomer the next day and everything was great. No ear infection and she had a great haircut. The employees are nice enough (when you can find one) and I have never used the groomer, but the store in general should be shut down. Then I went to the pet grooming area to inquire about cat grooming... that person SCOWLED back at me that, "we don't take cats, PERIOD!!!"
