Peter's Kettle Corn is definitely POPPIN! If you love kettle cooked popcorn as is, this place will be some type of heaven for you!!! Peter's Kettle Corn is a teeny tiny little shop located in the Laurel District of Oakland with some metered parking available out front. The interior is bright on one side and has brick walls on the other side (pretty ideal for foodie pics if you know what I mean hehe). The flavors are UNIQUE and you can sample whichever you like. Their Matcha and Maple Bacon flavors are prepacked and sell for $7/bag. Their special flavors on display are $6.50 for a small (I forget what the pricing is for the other sizes). I feel like a small is more than enough but you can also opt for medium, large, or tins. You can even mix&match flavors! When getting your bag filled, they ask if you would like your bag to be closed or to be left open. If you want a little extra to snack on, I suggest leaving it open because they'll fill it to the tippy top. Their flavors differ per day and throughout the day. I was never the type to snack on those seaweed pack things so it was quite interesting to find that their Seaweed flavor won me over. Maybe it's because it's a little sweet? I have no idea but they're ADDICTING! Unfortunately their Samoa flavor was still in the works when I came here buuuut they have a stamp card thaang going on so of course I'll be back! I just hopped on Peter's kettle corn train, and I regret nothing! Fantastic, fresh flavors! First time I ordered, I got the horchata and the Oakland Mix, the Oakland Mix was pretty good, but I definitely loved the horchata. They're all fresh, and sometimes I can't get the horchata, which I want as a staple in my house, so I got the Saigon cinnamon, and the matcha green tea for my boyfriend. Now my extended family are addicted, and the only cure is more Kettle Corn from Peter's! Thank goodness they were on hand at the most recent Nique F. production to curb the craving! I walked away with several bags brimming with fluffy, sweet, salty kernels of popped goodness -- both Original and Horchata flavors -- to bring back to my addicts, eh hem, family members. I LOVE THIS KETTLE CORN. My mom and I were looking for unique treats rather then the usual candy in loot bags. This was it! My mom bought me 6 big bags of this kettle corn. AMAZEBALLS. The taste is just great. This also was a hit with my son Gio he is autistic and his favorite food is popcorn, all my guest loved it. Even the characters from Yo gabba gabba who made an appearance loved it so it's Brobee and Foofah approved :-) I binged on this popcorn with some wine. When you think of a Yelp event, or about a farmer's market, the first thing that comes to mind is "I sure hope Peter's Kettle Corn will be there". Peter's is awesome. The staff is one of the friendliest group of gals and fellas you'll ever meet. They're always generous with their portions, and always do their best letting you sample as much as you'd like. When I found out they finally opened a storefront, it was like my prayers were answered. I knew where to go to get my popcorn, and I didn't have to go stalking where they would be next. Their location is located off of MacCarthur Blvd, and parking truly sucks! When I heard they had a parking lot, I was ecstatic, knowing how parking in the area isn't the greatest. However, when I found their location, I was a little confused why their parking lot was gated and closed off. The staff inside mentioned, that their lot is just for employees, so if you're looking for parking, take the first spot you find on MacCarthur! Luckily I was able to swoop on the last spot in front when I arrived, but it def had to circle a few times around the block before I got lucky. From Chipotle Lime, Original, Cheddar, Caramel, Cinnamon Sugar to BBQ. The choice is yours! Unfortunately, I was a bit bummed to see they only had prepackaged Maple Bacon on the walls, but it was the one request from the husband to get their Maple Bacon. Their big tins feed about 50, so if you're looking to host a party with Peter's Kettle corn opt for the tin versus the bags. They mentioned they can def do special requests with a lead time notice, so keep it in mind if you're looking for a larger quantity or seasonal flavor that isn't in the store shelves. read more

I started interacting with John at Peter's Kettle Corn about 5 months before my wedding and he was extremely helpful through e-mail communication from the day I initially contacted him all the way through the weeks leading up to the wedding. Responses were always within 24 hours and he was gracious enough to send us samples in the mail so we could try out the various flavors since we live in San Jose and weren't planning on making it to one of their weekly bay area food fairs (this was before they opened a store front). John even obliged to put some labels on the buckets so we could show off where the kettle corn was from. We eventually settled with three 5 gallon buckets for our wedding party of 80 guests. The three flavors we decided was sea salt seaweed, original kettle corn, and horchata. We thought these three flavors represented the best mix of distinct flavors offered (we were not a big fan of the spicy cheddar). We picked up the kettle corn the day before the wedding, and when we eventually served it during our cocktail hour, it was an absolute hit with the guests! We barely had any left over and it was the only snack item we served along with drinks. Peter's Kettle Corn was such a huge hit that we placed a last minute order for another wedding party we conducted the next weekend with a total of about 270 guests. For this larger gathering, we had five 5 gallon buckets with two buckets of classic kettle corn, one bucket of sea salt seaweed, one bucket of horchata, and one bucket of matcha green tea with white chocolate drizzle (be careful if you order this one for warmer environments because the chocolate may cause the kettle corn to stick together). Again, it was a big hit and we got lots of comments of how unique of a snack it was before the start of the reception. We were very happy with the warm responses we got. Maybe its because they'd be more at home at a carney friendly location rather then Bay Area farmers markets, and food truck rodeos. But not with Peter and John, the enthusiastic proprietors of Peter's KC. So apparently all of my friends have had this kettle corn before, but I've never had...before going on a worktrip. A coworker of mine was able to score a bunch of free bags of kettle corn from a new years eve party. Apparently one of my coworker's friend's friend is Peter. Something like that. So we got a bunch of kettle corn to eat when we were out in Rancho Cordova (on our business trip). He brought two flavors: Horchata and Caramel Pumpkin Spice. That salty sweet bite was delicious. Another coworker and I probably finished the 2.5 bags of kettle corn...in a day. Within the afternoon really. Horchata, which is a friend's favorite, was definitely really delicious. I mean they definitely have a slight sweet cinnamon milky taste to it. The other bag, caramel pumpkin spice, was probably more of a seasonal flavor, but I definitely did taste the delicious pumpkin spices - which I love. I always get hella excited when I find out that Peter's Kettle Corn is going to be at an event. I've been a fan since the husband and I first sampled their wares on one of our first dates (a Yelp event at Linden St. Brewery!). The folks that work there are also super friendly and enthusiastic. My standbys are the cheddar cheese and classic, but this past weekend we got to try a bag of Maple Bacon Caramel. It doesn't JUST taste like maple bacon; I found actual pieces of bacon inside the popcorn bag! This is incredibly smoky, salty, sweet, and all-around decadent. I have always liked kettle corn, that is until I had a big accident and was cut out of my car by the "Jaws of Life." I am grateful to be alive but my teeth went with my windshield and I now have dentures. I have tried popcorn and kettle corn but had no luck with false teeth. Either my teeth came out with the caramel or the kernels in-bedded themselves in my plastic. At the farmers' market last weekend the cheerful young man in Peter's Kettle Corn kiosk dared me to try some. He said the popcorn was a special variety that puffed big and had very little of the hard husks of other popcorn. I didn't believe him, but on the dare I tried it. Not only did it not stick or get implanted in my teeth, it was delicious--the best I've ever eaten. It was crispy, but not hard and had just the right combination of sweet and salty. I loved it! In congratulations for taking his dare, the man gave me a whole bag for free, which I devoured all by myself. I am now hooked for life on Peter's caramel popcorn. I know it comes in other flavors, but I doubt the corn can get better than the caramel. Now I'm going to have to track them down when the farmers' market closes in a couple of weeks. My son wanted Kettle corn, my daughter salted caramel corn, so we took a chance that Peter's was open. My son ended up getting 2 flavors in his bag and we also got one cheese. They had a sign out for pre-order pick up so first thought was we can't purchase any. My son asked and they said we could. Great customer service and popcorn was fresh as usual. Met these guys at the Yelp Mobile Mashup and I loveeeeeeeed it. First of all, if you're a kettle corn hater, get outta here! Kettle corn, in general, is amazzzzzzzzing. In Peter's case, it's AMAZZZZZZZZZZZZZING. Forreal, so awesome. Got 4 bags of the stuff at the event. We opened one the next day (the strawberry kettle corn) and it was as awesome as described... reminded me of Trix cereal! Hubs ate all the Chipotle flavored one (nope, he didn't even let me try it!) but he said it was amazing. I saved the best for last--the original kettle corn. I ate one bag on Friday afternoon (the event was on Thursday) and it was great. I ate the other bag on Tuesday morning and IT WAS GREAT. I had visited this place on a fluke. And I was immediately greeted by a welcoming aura. I'm not one to actually feel auras and stuff like that but something about the place just felt welcoming. Continuing on I noticed how Javier the guy who was manning the station was refilling popcorn and having a nice brief conversation with a customer. And he was friendly. Then it came to be my turn, he welcomed me. He offered me a sample of the delicious chocolatey coconut flavored popcorn. It made my tastebuds burst into a dance session. Although I didn't get that flavor, I however did get spicy cheddar regular cheddar and caramel (my personal favorites) and he mixed them with no problem at all. Oh sweet baby kettle corn I was on my way to get a scoop of ice cream and ended up walking through a farmer's market going down in the Mission (I believe between Valencia and Mission St. -- it was on a Thursday evening). I usually get all jazzed up at these markets (I can eat about a million samples and then, on my self-induced sugar high, end up buying about ten pounds more of [fill in the blank] than anybody could ever eat before rotting commences) but this was something different... The siren call of sweet kettle corn beckoned. And, like some sort of friggin Looney Toones character, my nose went sky-high and led me to Peter's Kettle Corn. These evil bastards saw my longing eyes, offered me a sample, and, as I shoved a giant handful of the perfect goodness in my mouth already was walking towards the purchase line. Absolutely wonderful. My only note is that by the end of the small bag the stuff on the bottom was super salty. But I've got no complaints. It was love. read more

What can I add about this place. It has hundreds of 5 star reviews, and I agree. I found out about it from a yelp event a while back, and we recently decided to check it out while we were in Oakland. What a great decision! So let me just say this place has two real things going for it: 1) The popcorn is just delicious. Every flavor. Mix them together, whatever, all good. Some of the flavors leave this bit of a cool flavor on your tongue, which is a little unique. As mentioned in other reviews, it's also a particular variety of popcorn that has less of a husk and pops into more of a round piece. Outstanding 2) The employees are amazing. I came across Peter's epiphany in a bag at Carnaval in San Francisco. They were giving out free samples, and I said "Oh, why not? Kettle corn's pretty good." It's not like other kettle corn. It's the perfect balance of sweet and salty, crunchy and melty, yin and yang, whatever. It doesn't matter too much, but you get the point. I put it in my mouth and the planets aligned. Eat it. This is honestly some of the best kettle corn I've had! Not only does it taste fresh and delicious, but it also comes in different flavors!
