Best kettle corn in the East Bay! The flavors are so tasty - my favorites are the cheddar cheese, sea salted caramel, and tomato basil. There are several other fun, seasonal, and classic flavors (horchata, kettle, spicy lime chipotle, peppermint chocolate). The most recent time I went, there was a box of 8 different flavors for $30 if you can't decide. They sell a variety of popular set flavors in small, medium and large. You can also customize your flavors- mixed or separated. The first time I went I got a couple of their $20 tins where you can get up to 3 different flavors. Next time you return and show the tins, you get the same amount of popcorn for $12. Great deal!It's more expensive than your usual run of the mill commercial popcorn, but I love supporting my local Oakland business while savoring some amazingly huge and tasty hand-popped kernels. I recommend popping in early though because you will encounter a line of popcorn addicts (like me) trying to get their fix!

Although my first true love for popcorn is Garrett's, Peter's could slide into my DMs any day. I really love their Oakland mix and I will say I would rank it very highly compared to other popcorn due to its unique 'kick' of spice that goes well with any of their flavors. Importantly, their kettle corn is amazing and strikes a balance of salty but not overly sweet or fatty. By this point in my popcorn eating career, I must have consumed gallons of Peter's and I am a repeat customer who is always getting his tins filled. Thank God for their punch cards which are good for a free bag after 9 bags. My only wish was that they had other locations and it was easier to get! This is 5 stars for a reason!

Pleasantly surprised by the quality of Peter's! First day of school back at SJSU! Lots of students were walking around the plaza, so the line was long for the cute little kiosk. However, the line was so quick!!! I even ended up getting in line TWICE because the line was zooming by. They were giving out three varieties for SJSU Students: Kettle Corn, Cheddar, and Sour Cream Onion. My favorite was definitely the cheddar! It was creamy, buttery, and did the job well. Each flavor also had a very detailed description of what was in the popcorn, which is super helpful! The cheddar flavor had: coconut oil, sea sallt, and buttermilk. Overall, I loved this place so much.. I want them to cater at my wedding someday LOL

I've walked by the store a few times in Oakland and frankly been turned off by the thought of eating pre-made popcorn that you don't know how long it's been sitting in those large containers, so I didn't look further. That, is until they had a tent at the San Carlos Art & Wine Fair this year. They had the kettle set up so it appeared they had made that popcorn earlier in the day on-site vs bringing it pre-made from Oakland. We had been disappointed by other caramel corn sellers that summer but this looked solid. And it was. Wow! Kernels were well coated (and salted) making it highly addictive and delicious. It's actually more salty than I would've liked - put you in a doozy especially in the heat - but good in controlled, smaller quantities. They also let us mix and match flavors (no additional charge). We got caramel and kettle corn, but the former was the clear winner for our big sweet tooth.

There are very few places I can go where I dont feel lost going into Oakland...and Im glad Peters kettle corn is on MacArthur blvd; which is one big blvd in a circle I can navigate. Today fortunately my mom had a meeting to go to so I was available to chauffer her then go kick it around Oakland for a couple hours while waiting for her. My mind was headed straight for popcorn...and this place always delivers and never disappoints! I have had the privilege on many Yelp sponsored events to enjoy the fluffy pops of joy...(and still campaigning for them to pop up in Vallejo) but until I can make a few trips yearly to support the peeps. I got Buffalo Cheddar and Sea Salt Caramel mix that was heavenly fresh this time ...but I will be back soon for another round.

So far, my current faves are the Classic Kettle Corn and Saigon Cinnamon. The Classic Kettle Corn was slightly sweet with a hint of salt. I wasn't really sure about the Saigon Cinnamon until I gave it a second bite. The second bite turned into third and fourth. The flavor reminded me of Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal but instead of the cereal crunch, it's more of a lightly popped popcorn. I found the popcorn here to be fresh and light even though we came around 3pm (2hrs after they've opened). We ordered a bag of every flavor but somehow we didn't get the spicy cheddar. That was my only gripe. Also, the hours here are from 1pm - 4pm.

Love the kettle corn here. Why? Besides how good kettle corns are compared to popcorns, what I like about Peter's is that it isn't overly sweet and it isn't overly salty compared to other kettle corns I have had. Other than that, they also have other flavors like smokey, chilli lime, cheddar, bacon cheese, etc. It really depends on your preference and they do provide samples for you to try before you decide what size you want. You can also mix them in your bags or have them layer it in the bags. Yes, they cost a little more here compared to the kettle corns you can get from farmer's market or at fairs, but there's a reason why - it's the quality you pay for, and how Peter's kettle corn taste good and how do I put it - clean : it doesn't taste yucky after eating them and I think it's because of the ingredients they use.

I mean who doesn't love popcorn? Go show love to this local popcorn shop here in Oakland right off the 580. On top of that the staff is so sweet. The process to order is pretty simple. They have the order sizes by the door. I like to get one small cheddar cheese and one small sea salt caramel. This is my go to popcorn combo. I believe they sell it mixed as well. I love how the popcorn is super flavorful. Once you start eating you'll have to make yourself stop. I've also had their classic kettle corn as party favors. The size of the bag is the perfect serving.

Kinda forgot this place existed honestly... it always looked closed or shut down due to the sign being nonexistent. While in the Laurel today I saw they were open and was so delighted! I grabbed cheddar and kettle corn. This combo satisfied my sweet and salty craving perfectly. This is a true Laurel district gem and I'm so pleased that they're are still open.

Today was a sad day. My honey butter popcorn had no honey butter. Seems that I received the classic instead. Pre-order did me wrong and the tip I added got me only partial service. I don't like classic. But I will still return since the other two bags were correct. It's just so unfortunate that I came across the bay for the HB. Maybe the HB flavor isn't what it used to be or as good as I remembered? Just taste sweet n salty not similar to the HB chips.

My husband and I are on a Stomper Safari throughout Oakland. The Stomper sighting is in celebration of the Oakland A's being here for 50 years (1968 to 2018). Our adventure started at another location in East Oakland. Stomper is in front of Peter's Kettle Corn. First, I have to take a few photos of Stomper before heading into their brick and mortar for the first time for some popcorn. I purchased their popcorn many times in the past at different events (concerts at Crab Cove, Christmas lighting ceremony, Yelp's Nifty Fifty, etc.) I sampled the smoked barbecue popcorn. I could not taste and/or detect the barbecue flavor in the popcorn. I could not do the "keep your bland a** popcorn to yourself, Karen." That would be totally wrong since I love Peter's Kettle Corn. (Don't wanna hear anybody telling me, "ya ain't even right for dissing the business).Thus, I went for my stand by, the classic. Husband selected the cheddar cheese flavored popcorn. Both flavors were excellent. Since this Peter's Kettle is somewhat out of my way, and I don't shop in the Laurel District, I know to go to their other location in Downtown Oakland, City Center Plaza to get my popcorn fix. That location is easier for me via public transportation from Alameda to Oakland.

Pop, pop! I had the immense pleasure of getting a bag of kettle corn at Yelp's Anniversary on the Hornblower. I was feeling horribly sea sick and had thrown the bag into my purse without eating any. First mistake. I got hungry later on that evening and opted for the kettle corn. I opened the bag and was introduced to the most amazing popcorn that I have ever had in my life. The kettle corn is the perfect balance of sweet and salty and the popcorn was masterfully cooked. When you get a bag of popcorn from other shops, you will often have unpopped kernels but not with Peter's Kettle Corn. Before I knew it, the bag was empty and as we were leaving the next morning, I snapped a photo of the bag so I would be able to order more online once I got back home. Second mistake. The next day, I went online to order some more kettle corn and was extremely disappointed that the only way to get Peter's Kettle Corn is in person at various shops or at events in SF. Good news- your popcorn is freshly popped and prepared but the downside is that you won't be able to get your hands on this delectable goodness unless you are in the greater Bay Area. If you are in the Bay Area, I would strongly suggest stopping by their booth or grab a bag at one of the shops that sell their divine popcorn! This definitely would get Magnitude's seal of approval! read more

How do you drive past this place everyday and not stop by every time?!! We love Peter's Kettle corn. I have to commute past this place everyday and it's a struggle not stopping in every time they are open. We love all the flavors, but my favorite has to be the maple bacon. Yes, I sample it every time even though I already know what it tastes like. We usually get the traditional kettle corn, cheddar cheese, and caramel mixed all together with the bag open so they fill it to the top. read more

Hands down, the best kettle corn I've ever had. Peter's is the perfect blend of sweet and salty and while the texture is light, the flavors are loaded. Had my first bag at the Rockridge Street Fair and kept helping myself to 'samples' from their large sample containers while waiting in line. I didn't get to try the other flavors but am already a huge fan! read more

Kettle corn is a fickle mistresses. I have followed her for years only to have my heart broken again and again. Flash to tonight, a yelp event, a food stand and two incredibly nice brothers. Pair me with one big bag of kettle corn. Large round globes of perfectly popped corn give in to the gentle pressure of my teeth. The perfect mix of sweet and salt intertwine over my tongue. Two hours of pure pleasure and suddenly I notice, my bag is empty. Peter has restored my faith in love My heartbreak may be over but my stomach ache is just about to begin. I passed by this place while on my way to my son's basketball game. Made a mental note to come back afterward. I am so glad I did. The popcorn is amazing! The flavors are delicious and original. The guys there are super nice and accommodating. We tried every flavor they offered. They had this special maple and bacon flavor that was amazing. Prices are very reasonable for fresh popped gourmet popcorn. We will make a stop here anytime we are in Oakland. read more

This is the best kettle corn and the customer service sends this place over to an elite status. Very personable customer service! I purchased 3 large bags of kettle corn for my mother's retirement celebration. I placed a large jar of the popcorn on the dessert table that I created and turned my back for a split second and the jar was almost empty. There was a handful left and guests were looking for more. I mean what is in this popcorn...crack cocaine? It is good. read more

The chipotle cheddar kettle corn is so good!! The girl behind the counter was really nice too. They have a lot of really cool flavors, and are happy to offer samples. And they give you a stamp card so you can get a free bag after 5 or so purchases. read more

yup.. what's better than fresh piping hot kettle corn at a farmer's market which just so happens to be conveniently located near work. nothing else... Peter's Kettle corn is quite possibly the most amazing thing ever invented. Aside from Popcornoplis nothing is as tasty as Peter's. The best part is that all the popcorn is popped fresh so you never end up with a stale kernel! I'm drooling just thinking about this! read more

We ordered a huge amount of lightly salted popcorn for a party. It was delivered exactly at the time specified, in large sealed bags. Fabulous popcorn: light, fluffy, uniform big kernals... with just enough butter & salt. The guests loved it! The leftovers stayed fresh in the sealed bag for nearly a week.... (even though John said it would only make it 24 hours). Hire these guys for your party: price is right & the product's great! read more

What a great little treasure. Staff is excellent in presenting the product which is made fresh daily. Not sure about the choices? Just ask as samples are generously provided. Besides their standard choices they offer seasonal concoctions that are best sampled as they offer unique combinations of ingredients and flavors, it's best to get a taste and make sure it's for you. We had Peter's Kettle Corn as our wedding favors and they were so popular!!! Everyone loved them and we had zero left over! We had the maple bacon which was great and the chocolate peppermint which was my favorite of the two! We ordered 150 and they were waiting to be pickup with no problems! Friendly staff! The key here is that everything is so fresh. The kettle corn was so good I got a metal tub that I can refill at a discount. Yeah, they have me hooked. That is okay though because they are nice people and the service is great. I'll be back again and again. read more

Peter's was a huge hit at our wedding. We placed our order the week prior and JoAnn got in touch with us right away! We got 4 of the 3.5 gallon tins for our 200 person wedding. Most everyone got a sample, but we almost wished we'd ordered more! Salted caramel turned out the most popular. The invoicing and email communication was clear and simple! They were even so kind to throw in clear glass jars with labels, scoops and small plates for the scoops to make it all pretty and presentable for our event. We just had to return within 5 days, which was easy to do and gave us another excuse to pick up a few more bags. The bacon cheddar is another personal favorite. All staff have been super friendly to us every time we've been in and the popcorn stays fresher than what we've had from other places. They also have a cute rewards punch card! read more

History

Established in 2007.

As Bay Area natives, John and Peter were exposed to diverse flavors found in various parts of their community. Street food is ingrained in their upbringing and have heavily influenced the many cultural flavors they offer now. They believe the best and most authentic cuisines are found at the local, mom-and-pop establishments. With support of friends, family, and guidance from some local business owners, John and Peter took their love for popcorn to the next level and were inspired to share their homemade kettle corn to a wider audience. Starting with just a few events a month, to today, where they now operate seven days a week attending events not limited to farmers' markets, festivals, private and corporate events. In addition to carrying a great line of products made specifically for gifts and favors.

A little pricey, but worth trying out if you're a fan of carnival food.

The kettlecorn was perfectly seasoned, not too salty but had a smokey buttery taste. Perfectly popped kernels, not overcooked and easy bag packaging. Awesome people, smooth and fast service. The guy there filled the bag to the brim, and twisty-tied the end- you can hold it by that end (it does hold up well) and close the bag with twisty tie later. Honestly it did take a lot of popcorn eating to get it down to a point where I could close the bag, which is great. They also have caramel corn and some other selection popped within the last day, but I've only seen the kettle corn fresh. This kettle corn is super tasty and so fresh, and definitely great to share and snack on.

Would advise giving customers a quick heads up/warning because that on its own would've made a big difference. As for the actual food, we ordered the mac trio with elote mac, chicken pot pie mac, and kogi short rib mac (for an extra fee). The elote mac was the best and most flavorful, the short rib mac was okay but not amazing or worth the extra money, and the chicken pot pie mac was very bland/flavorless and didn't have much chicken in it. The food didn't feel like it warranted the wait time and because of that I would not return.

They also offer dishes like bánh khọt and bò lúc lắc, which may be worth trying on a future visit.

Finally made it over to Off the Grid, SF with the gf. and of course had to try Peter's Kettle Corn!!! Heard so many awesome things and read lots of excellent reviews!! I love kettle corn as a snack and can seriously eat a whole bag to myself (who doesn't do that..) anyways, got to try a flavor that they had (strawberry, they had horchata, but i guess we missed out) and the original. Now i didn't know that you can flavor kettle corn as i thought the original is all there is, but apparently not!! Peter's Kettle Corn takes it to the next level and flavors their kettle corn!! The strawberry was great! nice and warm, fresh from being popped right in front of your eyes and it wasn't overly sweet, it was just right! then tried the original and honestly one of the best kettle corn I've ever tasted!! We ended up with 2 small bags and 2 large bags!! If you guys ever get a chance to check out Off the Grid, SF or anything like it that features Peter's Kettle Corn, you must check them out!! I first discovered Peter's Kettle Corn at an art and wine festival and was instantly hooked! Since then, I've become a repeat customer because their kettle corn is simply the best I've ever had. My personal favorites are the traditional kettle corn and the salted caramel -- the texture and flavors are perfection, easily a 10/10. Their customer service is just as impressive as their product. When a tin I ordered as a gift for my father arrived dented, I reached out to suggest they consider adding more shipping protection. To my surprise, they promptly sent a brand-new tin, complete with kettle corn, at no extra charge. Talk about going above and beyond! If you're a kettle corn fan, or know someone who is, I highly recommend you try Peter's. Everyone I've shared it with loves it. Plus, they have limited time flavor offerings, such as Saigon cinnamon sugar, horchata, maple, and smoked BBQ, so there is plenty of yumminess to try. read more

Lets see where to start. Well first of all this place just catches your eyes. the variety of drinks from lemonade, strawberry lemonade, to mango necter. The colors just stands out!! Every once in a while, if you're lucky you'll hear the kettle corn popper yell out "fresh popcorn, get your fresh popcorn." This is the best time to get the popcorn as it is fresh, hot, and crispy. I love finding the little popcorn nuggets that are all covered in sugar..those are the best. Other than that they play latin music, which is funny because they're all asian hahaha! But all joking aside they have very good customer service especially for the flea market. I would like them to try something new with the popcorn though. I think Peter's Kettle Corn has one of the best business practice that I've experienced. I have lived in this location for six years now, noticed this business sign probably a couple years ago and only recently realized that they were open for business. But once I realized they were doing business seems like it's been nonstop patronage. Then a friend started coming over with actual bags of popcorn from Peter's Kettle Corn, I tried the flavors and was in love. I went in with her one day and noticed the employees were wonderful, courteous and very accommodating. We were at a wine-based fundraiser on Friday, and fortunately, lots of snacks were provided. Peter's Kettle Corn was there with a great variety of popcorn. I'm often leery of popcorn in bags, since it's typically stale or full of preservatives. But Peter's was fresh and crunchy, having been made that day.
