Being a very strong pizza enthusiast this was always my go to place when friends or family came from outa town my first recommendation would be you gotta try petrillos! It was so perfect back then I would order a large well done pizza with garlic, salmi, onion, sausage well done! It would be so amazing I would have dreams about that pizza! Now I'm sorry to say it's ..... just not the same. Now when I ask for well done the crust is somewhat crispy, but the toppings are all raw, and just not the same quality over all. No, no say it ain't so simple solution "fix your oven or get a salamander they will come". I now drive about 20 miles to Glendora where they still serve it the way SanGabriel used to! Went on Saturday before the dinner rush in hopes of having a delicious dinner with my friend. Wow was I disappointed!! The toppings, cheese and sauce on the pizza were delicious, but the crust was awful. The bottom tasted like chewy cardboard and the edges were so burned they weren't edible. When the waitress finally came by to ask us how it was, we told her and her response was to say nothing, turn and walk away. Then we had to ask a busboy for drink refills, because after we complained she completely ignored us. I am from Phoenix, AZ. I was staying with friends in San Gabriel while being with my dying aunt. They love Petrillo so I tried ordering on Grubhub (Uber eats) to have food delivered. It was very frustrating. I cleared my order and tried again. This time I ordered a small veggie pizza along with a large pizza- half pepperoni and the other half their Specialty pizza and a large antipasto salad which stated it was tossed with Italian dressing, which it was NOT. And there was no dressing on the side. Under "special directions" I asked to please deliver it around 6 pm. So I leave my aunt at 4 (she was in Pasadena. It's Saturday, June 3rd, 2023) and I'm almost at my friends house and I get a call from her saying ( it is now 4:45pm) the food is there and they want my PIN number which I give her and I arrive as Grubhub is leaving. My friend has it set out - no veggie pizza and no dressing on salad. But we start eating and the pizza is delicious. At 6:20 the doorbell rings and there is Grubhub with the correct order. However we try telling the driver who speaks broken English and very difficult to understand- no we don't want it. He asks for my PIN number which I give him and asks if I am Joan M. Yes, I am but we don't want it. He says it will be thrown away and he leaves the order with us and goes. The next day I have a voicemail (dated6/3/23, time: 5:15 pm)from Maynard, Mass!! I don't know anyone in Maynard but I listen to it and it's Petrillo asking about my two orders!! I call and explain to please delete the one order, but apparently having given my PIN number TWICE ( big mistake, but now I know) I paid for both with PayPal, which I didn't realize at the time because it had been such a long since using UberEats.What a mess! After a long day of work, my boyfriend and I dropped by for a late dinner. We arrived around 10:15pm... and luckily, they were still serving! After hearing amazing things about their bread, my boyfriend and I just had to order it! Unfortunately, the waitress informed us that they no longer had the bread... they were out for the rest of the night. Luckily, the waitress suggested their cheesy garlic bread, which was amazing! What's even better is that they were complimentary! Nom nom. We also ordered the small (which is not so small) Petrillo's Specialty. It was absolutely amazing! Best pizza in Los Angeles. Quality ingredients, generous portions, and probably the perfect recipe and procedure for making an excellent pie. Every time I go to get a pizza here it seems to get better and better. Sure, you have to pay a little more and there's usually a wait for your pizza if you forget to call ahead, but it's all worth it. I'll swear to whatever gods you may pray to, there is no better pizza in the Los Angeles area. The greatest disappointment about moving out of the San Gabriel Valley is that it's now a forty mile drive to pick up a pizza from here. But I still make the effort every now and then. read more

I really wanted to like the pizza here and maybe it was just an "off" night for them; the crust was really tough and seemed stale. Even my friend agreed but he thoroughly enjoyed the pizza anyway (he would have given Petrillo's a 4-star rating despite the bad crust). I do like the serving size, though. This was my first time to Petrillos - (note: when you drive by there are two store fronts. One for Take out and One for the restaurant. My friend thought it was a take out only place) We dined in the restaurant (after reading the many cheered reviews.) Ive never at a place where my arm hurt the next day. Not that any accident occurred, but because my leftover box was like a ton!!! The servings here are HUGE!!! We had a SMALL thick crust pizza with one topping (the crust is like crisp on the outside and fluffy (not doughy) but stuck to the roof of your mouth fresh. Sauce is no less than happy and fresh!!! just the right amount of cheese and a generous amount of topping to add to this pie. I also ordered Gnoochi w/ white sauce(how could I pass that up?) I ordered the dinner (versus the ala carte which is only the entree) that arrived with a cup of homemade minestrone AND a fresh salad with the flavorful but not overpowering Italian dressing. Gnoochi plate was one of those pasta platters that should be shared - seriously, it is about 4 regular servings of food. Buttery, creamy, GAAAAARlicky!!! and Most importantly - FRESH!! You may think a small pizza and an entree - but NO it was ALL this food for two people - enough for a small nation. (well, maybe not be definitely could feed a family of 4. Bread, for sure homemade. I personally enjoy Petrillo's even though their service isn't the greatest. The food keeps us coming back. My favorites: Spaghetti With Meat Sauce (the complete dinner comes with minestrone soup, salad, and bread) Pepperoni, sausage and pineapple pizza. The crust is is crispy and tons of toppings. The sausage is amazing. There are only 2 servers from what saw on the few times I've been there and there are two separate rooms so it is difficult to get their attention. I've been a fan of petrillo's since my cousin first introduced it to me. Huge fan of their pizza! It's delicious! Food deserves about 3.5 stars. Service this past Sunday was ehhh. Came by Sunday (the day before my bday) with the family. We ordered pizza, a sampler (wings mozzarella cheese sticks), and mushroom ravioli. The cheese sticks were AMAZING! I most definitely recommend it!! Pizza was delicious as always. The mushroom ravioli was also super delicious it came with alfredo sauce! Yumm!! Don't let the size of the pizza box deceive you because once you open it, the pizza is huge and it's loaded with tons of toppings! My favorite was the specialty. Although the hawaiian was also good and had plenty of pineapples (I had to scoop some off). I ate prior so I was only able to scarf down 2 slices and 2 wings. Haven't been here in years. Now it is badly understaffed. On a recent Sunday night visit I walk in and nobody greeted me for about 10 min. An employee, who turns out is the host, was hanging out in the last booth by the kitchen and ignored customers all together. A waitress finally took down names and apologized saying that she didn't know where the host was. Host then walks over to the register and looks as if she is dazed, like loaded. She has no personality. The experience was like a first week for a nervous brand new business. I ordered a thin crust pizza, asked for it to be pie cut. Waitress said I cant promise you that they can cut the pizza into squares. She explained that if they're are busy they likley wouldn't do it. She was right about that, they didn't cut it as asked. They do not take reservations, so be prepared to wait (just in case) if you have a big group! Everytime we come here, we end up ordering too much food because we just love it here. My favorite is their specialty pizza, but it always comes out to the table last and by the time it comes out, all I can handle is one or two slices..BUT OMG! it is one of the best pizzas I've ever had! We get it with everything on it and the flavors are just so good. Our waitress was really knowledgeable, patient, and helpful in helping us with our indecision. Their mushroom ravioli is a blend of at least three different mushrooms and is very creamy and soft. Their lasagna is very cheesy and the flavor is similar to chef boyardees. Salad and soup that came with them were excellent as well, but the salad had a little bit too much ranch. I give them 4/5 stars because it truly is one of the best Italian restaurants I've been to, but I did not like how their pastas were not piping hot when they were served to us, making the cheese in them less gooey and less satisfying. The pizza here is pretty damn good. At first you might balk at the idea of $22 for a medium pizza, but the medium is freakin' huge!! I always get the Petrillo's special which has pepperoni, salami, sausage, green pepper, onion, and mushroom. They really pile on the cheese and toppings here... a couple squares (the medium and large have square slices) and most people will be stuffed. Some people might not care for the thicker style crust, but I like it. The sauce is nice and tangy but not overpowering. I would have to agree with some other reviewers that the service kinda sucks here. I've never dined in, but even at the pickup counter the girls are always kinda snobby. Last time I went I said "thanks, have a nice day" and the girl just completely ignored me. Oh, well... as long as I'm not dining in I can deal with their stuck-up attitude. The service truly need to be stepped up a few notch. They are cold considering naming themselves as a'family' restaurant. There's no umph service. Food, yes they are fairly large portion. I ordered the infamous calamari. .. And. ..yes.. it is fresh, crispy and tasty. The sauce though is bleh.. could've been better. The place has a local family owned atmosphere. I/we have alway ordered the large (family size) pizza. The toppings are always generous and of excellent quality. I've been here so many times, I can't believe I forgot to review it. Like most of the people have stated, the left side of the restaurant is for dine-ins and the right side is for take outs. This place can get very busy in the evening for dinner. You'll see people waiting inside as well as outside, and this goes for both sides of the establishment. I ordered a small specialty pizza that came out to about $17.00; yes, a small. This is more than enough for one person so it's best to have two people or so eat it with you. They pack the pizza with tons of toppings, which is points in my book. All the toppings are nice and fresh, except the mushrooms, which are obviously canned. Crust is a hit or miss; you either like it or you don't. If you dine in, be prepared for the really slow and bad service. It's a mission just trying to get a server's attention and even if you did, you'll occasionally get the "let me get your server" response. They really need to train their staff at customer service. The small pizza can feed up to 4 people. Although I kind of wish that their pizzas had thinner crusts, but I do appreciate their mounts of toppings that they pile on (they are certainly not stingy on their toppings). One of their tastiest pasta dish would be Penne Vodka with either chicken or shrimp. It is basically penne pasta with this creamy tomato sauce that is absolutely divine!
