I won't lie, I'm probably not a typical salon kind of client. I don't often do much with my hair and I don't know all of the terms that frequent salon-goers know. I just knew I needed a change so I made an appointment with Marisa because a friend recommended her. Marisa asked me not just about my hair but also about myself and my beauty routines. I didn't realize it til later, but she wasn't just making chit-chat, she was getting to know what was important to me and she was considering what was something I would be likely to want to replicate on my own. She never tried to talk me into something unrealistic for me, nor did she make me feel dumb for not owning styling tools she asked about. I'd been afraid to look silly in the midst of a professional, but Marisa was completely reassuring! Marisa used that information to suggest something that was outside my comfort zone but totally doable for my hair styling abilities (which are admittedly minimal). This was my first time in a professional salon setting (I typically go to a cheap chain to get a quick cut), but Marisa explained every step and she never made me feel stupid when I asked questions. She kept me feeling comfortable in the salon and I always felt like her priority. When my hair was done, I was kind of in shock; it was something I never would have thought to request, but I hadn't even made it out the door before receiving compliments! Walking to my car made me feel like someone in a hair commercial and pictures sent to friends via text all brought about praise! I walked in with no clue what I wanted and I walked out feeling like a better version of myself, which was what Marisa figured out that I'd wanted by asking great questions and by listening to me. Bottom Line/ tl;dr: You can go to Marisa to get the exact thing you want (if you are already an expert on your own hair) or you can go to Marisa to get something better than you could have even thought to ask for... what's important is that you go to Marisa! Thanks, Marisa, for having a vision of my hair that made it awesome while also respecting how I style my hair daily as well as for considering my coloring and what would look best with my facial features! I have always been someone who hit up the $10 chain haircut places but now I truly understand why it is so much better to go to Phia and to Marisa! read more

There are many things I like about Phia! The first of which is the initial consultation with your stylist. They spend a lot of time trying to figure out exactly what you want, write it all down, repeat it back you and make sure the vision of your haircut aligns with what the stylist has recorded. I also love that they go ahead and tell you up front before they even start cutting your hair how much the appointment is going to cost. My stylist was very nice, not too chatty which I prefer, and gave me a solid cut. Was it the best I ever had? No, but it was good! There are several things I do not like about Phia. First of which is the cancellation policy. You have to cancel 72 hours in advance or you get charged a premium. I personally think that is excessive because sometimes things come up and plans change. I think a 48 hour policy is much more reasonable. The second thing I do not like is the filming/photography policy. According to their website the moment you walk in you consent to have photos and video taken of you. They can use those images/videos in branding, social media posts, and on their websites without you knowing. They state on their website: "you also waive any right to inspect or approve any photo, video, or audio recording taken by staff at any Phia Concept Salon." That just sounds a little sketchy to me and invasive. Because of their strict cancellation policy and their film and photography policy I will not be returning. read more

RANIA IS THE BEST! I just moved from LA to Columbus and was looking for the best hair stylist. I'm pretty picky about hairstyles since living in LA exposed me a lot of new, crazy, chic, and natural but still sexy looks. Personally, I love the balayage style, so I've paid an insane amount of money for it in Hollywood a couple of times. However, I was never satisfied with their "fancy" skill or service--like--ever. Then, yesterday, I got my hair cut and highlighted by Rania. The bottom line is I'm so glad I found her and this wonderful salon. I'm so satisfied with my new hairstyle and their perfect service. It was totally worth waiting almost two months to get on the schedule with Rania. This salon and Rania's overall service is unbelievable. She sent me text messages two weeks ahead of my appointment asking me to share my inspiration pictures--any pics of looks along with my current hairstyle. Then, she really took her time to explain and advise me about what could realistically be done in the first visit since my hair was so damaged. I could already tell from her texts, but today, I saw how she cared for my hair, and it made me trust her even more. And she's honest. She kept asking and really listening to my opinions and concerns to understand what I really cared about and wanted to try. Once she started to cut and dye my hair, I just trusted her without any questions since we were on the same page - it was a great experience! The scalp and shoulder massage were amazing, and the hair treatment for my dry hair really worked. Needless to say, I have the most natural layered cut and sunkissed balayage (highlight) hairstyle without any damage. She truly cared about my damaged hair the whole time. At one point, I was moved when I realized that she focuses more on healthy hair than on profit. Just what I wanted, expected, and was told by Rania. FYI, I'm an Asian girl with really dark hair. And all the staff who work at the salon are very welcoming and nice! Plus, they use Aveda hair products from beginning to end. I'm looking forward to my next visit in March to get the "final" look of my hair goal. And I really want to thank Rania again for trying her best to get what I wanted until after their closing time! I got a partial one color balayage and a designer cut: $233. I chose this salon because of its great reviews and I was very impressed with the salon itself. I got a free scalp massage with the service and a great new hair cut. The balayage was alright; it looks very natural, which I wanted, but so natural that it looks like nothing was done. My stylist did a great job, she is not the problem at all, but its not worth what it cost. As someone with thick, hard to manage hair, i have been on the hunt for a stylist who can reduce bulk without sacrificing length. Kelli is the only person I've found to do that. She listened to what I wanted, offered suggestions based on her breadth of knowledge (which is extensive), and gave me the best haircut I've ever received. I had another great experience at Phia. Everyone made me feel comfortable and welcomed. I was running late so I sent a text to Annah. She responded immediately putting my mind at ease. I walked out with no gray, very shiny natural looking color and a bouncy "whimsical" cut. My curls are non frizzy and healthy looking. Worth the money! A year later and still an great salon. Each time I go to Phia, the staff impresses me. I had to cancel my most recent appointment due to an emergency. Rather than being mad and rescheding me weeks later, my stylist squeezed me in the same day. She was very thoughtful and strategic to maximize the window of time that was available. 1.            I read on the internet that they give a free massage hand/neck/scalp. However I got only scalp massage during shampoo my hair. 2.            I chose one of the stylists to work with because some friends recommend her. She is such a nice person. We have discussed how I want my hair to be for about 15 minutes. She seemed to understand my point. I have too much hair and I want it to be easier for me to deal with it every day. Then she did cut it. And I did not like it at all! It became more difficult to deal with! And it doesn't fit with my face shape! I will wait two months (with all the depression) until I figure something out! This is the first time I hate my hair style. I used to cut it every 6 months and never hated it! 3.            Look at the pictures I uploaded (if one can see them) to be sure that you check your hair before leaving. For me it was the first time, so I did not check it!    4.            Overall, the place is good and will try my luck with them again (but not with my hair). Having a bad experience in some places doesn't mean that I am not going back again because I don't like to judge a place or person from only one signal time! I came here after getting a botched balayage. Was very pleased that after one session my color correction came out so well. The original job bleached my hair to the point it looked dead, the color was horrid and I had a ring of orange around the top of my head. After a consultation, I ended up getting a treatment and color correction including partial balayage. I had to keep things simple as I already paid so much with the original balayage that went wrong, so I spent some time considering the costs of everything. I really appreciated that Autumn spent 15 min going over my options (4-5 different ones), pros/cons and costs so I could be sure to pick the most reasonable repair within my budget. This is something I haven't gotten anywhere else, and it really took pressure off and eased my anxiety. Atmosphere was friendly and professional. I was well taken care of including complementary drinks and scalp/neck massage. I went today to get my hair done with Rania. I was very surprised at how easy it was to get in with her, as I booked on short notice (the night before). This morning, I got a call from her assistant, Rae, asking me about the nature of my hair, what I wanted, and how much I'd be able to spend. I absolutely loved this because I am a student who has recently moved to Columbus from North Carolina-- I'm not only tight for money, but I've had to part with my stylist of 10 years, so I was nervous! As soon as I walked in, some of those nerves disappeared. The receptionist immediately checked me in and provided me with a glass of water while I waited. Once I got into the chair, Rania knew I wanted to go from my very warm golden blonde hair to a darker, cooler blonde. Originally, I had checked "all over color," but Rania, understanding my budget and looking at the pictures I had provided for her, advised me to do some lowlights and a cool toner instead, as it would would be less costly and less maintenance. This made me nervous, as I definitely didn't want to walk out looking the exact same as I walked in, but I agreed after she assured me she would do whatever I wanted if I wasn't completely satisfied with the result. After the lowlights, toner, and a fantastic scalp massage from Rae (accompanied by really nice conversation, not that awkward small talk you usually get in salons), I realized that I now have the exact color I wanted. I have never been so excited or satisfied about a hair color before! Somehow, Rania found a way to create volume, dimension, and shine by picking up the natural tones in my hair and bringing them out against the lowlights. It blends perfectly, with no chunky streaks or sections like I had before. My blowout was also perfect, less curly than my natural hair, but still wavy. I felt like a Victoria's Secret model. Even one of the other stylists told me I looked like I was glowing... probably because I was grinning ear to ear! My color was only $80, and they took $15 off because I was a new customer. I was a little disappointed when I looked at yelp to write this review, though, because there is a coupon for $80 for $39. I went in there as I read positive reviews of the place on yelp . Was completely disappointed with how the stylist cut my hair. She was a level 3 and charged me over $80 for a very poor layer cut. I wanted something really simple just a layer cut and she still managed to cut it very uneven. She said she'd text me and ask if everything was okay with the haircut but she didn't. Maybe they're only good to colour your hair but I do not recommend them for a haircut. I was scared to go back and get it corrected as I Would've lost more length and didn't want to risk it. I am sure this salon is good based on the reviews. My experience was "uncomfortable". I recently moved back to Columbus and I am looking for a stylist to do a keratin/ smoothing treatment. Currently I have a long lime stylist in North Carolina she is excellent and I have flown her in to do my hair in the past when living in Miami. I don't think she is dying to visit Columbus so I am on the hunt. Upon entering this salon (I noticed them because they carry Davines products which is what I use) I felt like the first non-white person to enter the place (not saying it's true - just how I was made to feel). I got the strangest looks, never had this feeling before. I asked the lady at the front desk about smoothing treatments, she paused then started speaking to a woman (manager maybe) who herself has hair not to different from mine when wet, but she looked odd then they disappeared to a back room for an unusually long time. So I waited....the front desk lady emerged with a yellow sticky note and I was instructed to email this mysterious person and "describe" what I wanted???? WTH? The curly headed woman never did come to talk to me nor barley look my way but it appeared she was the one making the decisions. I felt the need to state I was not looking for a relaxer but keratin...so the front desk lady goes back to consult the other woman and comes back and instructs me to email the mystery person. The way everyone looked you would think I walked in naked and asked for a jerry curl. Needless to say I am not calling the person - he/she may be great but this was the first time I felt unwelcome in a business. Unfortunately they are the only place in walking distance that sells my hair products so I will have to go back for that reason only. They have great customer service if you ever need to return a product. I bought some shampoo and conditioner and I wanted to return the shampoo and to my surprise, they let me exchange the shampoo for a different product (of the same value). I was really pleased by this. I got my hair colored by Liv in July and I got a hair cut by Dave today. I was happy with how my color came out and pleased with my haircut. DON'T GO HERE. First time visit for a simple, all one length trim. I was immediately being pressured to buy add-on services. I was told my hair was "brassy" and needed a "glossing" treatment. The obviously unnecessary "glossing" turned my hair an awful, ashy color with a greenish cast. I never signed on for a color change. And the "salon cut" is NOT all one length. Not even close. The left side is a different length from the right side. Now the manager, Arond, wants me to come in for an "evaluation", and if management determines the mistake is from a "miscommunication, " I could be charged again. Phia Salon has had 9 days to make an attempt to fix this. Yesterday was the 9th day, and I just now got an email. How can a business give you an uneven haircut, greenish ashy hair, and try to blame this on a miscommunication? AND CHARGE $137???? You're going to charge me to remove a greenish color I never asked for, and correct an unprofessional cut? And how much damage will my hair have to suffer in the removal of this greenish,ashy, awful color I never asked for? I am afraid to have them touch my hair. And Phia Salon has made no attempts to remedy this. In 9 days. My hair was a beautiful, strawberry blonde color that just needed a little trim. I was made to feel something was wrong with it, and it needed to be "fixed". Shame on Phia Salon. Don't go here. Ever. read more

To preface: this experience took place in December of 2016 but has been scarring to say the least. I had my hair done at Phia's sister salon in Clintonville and had nothing but good things to say! I decided to come to Phia as is had an opening during the time I was free and I desperately needed a touch-up. I had a full very blonde balayage done on my hair ~3 months prior to this appointment and wanted to add some dimension to my hair and darken up my roots again. Going in, I discussed with my stylist that I wanted to do a set of lowlights after her initial suggestion of darkening up and then adding blonde in again (a 2 step process that I clarified I DID NOT WANT). After adding a full head of low lights to my hair and washing it, my stylist began drying my hair. Confused, I asked if my hair was still wet since it was so dark and she said, "No, that's the color." To clarify, my hair was now black. She tells me the color took to my hair more than expected but it must have just been a miscommunication on my part. Not only had I sent over ten pictures to her before the appointment but we talked for over 20 minutes about what I initially wanted. I understand that my hair was extremely porous as it was so blonde so it absorbed more of the color than originally intended, but to use almost black on my hair that was incredibly light and so much of it was an amateur move. After four more hours I finally had some blonde pieces back after she re-balayaged my hair but could only offer a partial for some reason. I left unhappy and stressed. The experience I had with the manager during the correction process was very helpful but I felt that my stylist thought I was in the wrong and was confused that I was not expecting this color. She followed up with me a few days later admitting she was too concentrated with the dark color the first time around and offered a discount on a lightening appointment. To say I'm scared out of my mind to return to this salon is an understatement. I had highlights added to my hair about a week after this event at a salon in Dayton as the dark color faded after 3 washes to an unflattering grey/brown but did not get back to my desired blonde until late February. read more

I am not a resident of Columbus; I was just in town for work and needed a solid haircut, and this place was walking distance and had very good ratings. How it works (as far as I know): There are various levels of hair stylists that you can choose from, and the prices are structured based on the level/experience of the stylists. Also, as expected, different type of cuts are priced differently. I chose a men's cut with a level 1 stylist, which I think was $29. Before the haircut started, there was a preference survey on my preferred hairstyle, products, etc. You meet with the hair stylist and tell them how you'd like your hair cut, and you're actually quite involved in how you want the cut to be performed. Haircut: My hairstylist was Jenn. The haircut was one of the better hair cuts I've had, and definitely the best I've had in the high $20's range. I did not see a single strand of hair that stuck out (fairly common problem with a clipper on the sides with some stylists). I was very happy with the final result, and it was pretty much exactly how I wanted it, due to the interactive process as described above. Service: Service was great! As soon as I walked in for the appointment, I was greeted and offered some water/coffee/tea. Throughout my haircut, the conversation with the stylist was also natural. It was good to have a stylist that asks you how I'd like certain parts to be cut, rather than just doing their own thing. After the haircut, the stylist checked on me to see how I liked my haircut the next day, which is a first for me and appreciated. Overall, I had a great experience here. I just moved here from California for grad school and was looking for a quality cheap cut, after much research I choose Phia because they had affordable discounted prices if you set an appointment with "new talent 1". I called in on Thursday and they were able to get me in that weekend which was great! My Hair dresser, Brandi, even texted me the morning of, asking if I wanted to send any pics of what my hair wanted to be so that she would be prepared. When I got there, they had me file out a quick sheet about what type of service I was looking for, and once I was done, Brandi began working with my hair. Brandi was extremely nice and gave great suggestions for my hair. The only downside was that my hair cut appointment was pretty lengthy, just because "new talent 1" individuals have to get approval of their hair cut plan from one of their experience peers before starting and also once they finished. Overall, Brandi did an amazing job with my hair although she had limited experience working with men's hair. I really appreciate the time and effort she took to make my haircut what I wanted. In addition, it was extremely cheap with all the works: shoulder & scalp massage, hair washing and styling afterwards. Update! After discussing my unpleasant experience with Elizabeth, in great depth!, she squeezed me into a same day appointment with Annah. This is the best customer service I've ever experienced, hands down! Not only did I review every issue I had with Elizabeth and a member of guest services at the salon, but got my hair concerns fixed by Annah, who totally brought my color up to where I wanted it to be and understood my curly hair to cut it as I had imagined. She is amazing and I already booked a trim with her, she even suggested some girls who are terrific at coloring to help keep in a smaller price range. While I still think the pricing is way off for the less experienced level stylists, the expertise and care I got from the staff at Philosophi was a new experience that I truly enjoyed. I highly recommend Philosophi over Phia, such a less hectic environment plus free parking. Overall so happy that Elizabeth invited me back to get fixed up (complimentary might I add, and they threw in a free conditioning treatment) and got a better result, now I'm over the moon with my hair!! ---------------------------------------------- I had really high hopes for this place, a friend told me it was great and they had great reviews. I went in for my appointment and while everyone was really friendly, I found out by scheduling online, I had only been booked half an hour for a color cut and wash! My stylist was nice enough to find another stylist who had time to do it and gave me over to her, however, no one mentioned I was being moved from a level 3 stylist to a level 1, there was a reason I waited and booked with the level 3 stylist! After my hair was done I wasn't sure if it was as blonde as I had asked for, but my stylist assured me it was light enough and would change in natural lighting. Right after the appt I felt pretty good about my hair, it was lighter than I thought in the studio, however still not as light as I had asked and shown in the picture of what I wanted. In addition, I had said over and over I never go short because my hair is curly and I'm afraid of it not being cut right...my worst fears were revealed. Now that I've washed my hair and let it dry naturally, as I told my stylists I do often, it has a frizzy and wild look that I was trying to avoid, I find my hair always falling in my face as the front never had the long layers cut I asked for. My stylists (both of them!) said they would follow up with me in a few days after the appointment to see how I liked the cut...however after a few weeks, it's been crickets. I booked an appointment at the Phia Salon on High Street for a cut/color and was greeted by Skylar. She was so nice, made me feel very comfortable, and she did an AWESOME job on my hair. Getting my hair done by Gia is like going on a vacation- If you have ever seen the movie Beauty shop when the Radio announcer walks in with her hair matted- That is me before and after- Before - was searching for a shop that could understand and actually do my deceiving hair with a mixture of different hair types- after Gia she has the patience, professionalism, attention to detail and insight to get the right color, cut and style in a relaxed and relaxing atmosphere. It was my first time dying my hair and I chose Phia Salon based on the reviews seeing that customers overall had a good experience. A week before my appointment, Rania reached out to me to come into the salon for a consultation. When I met her, she was extremely friendly and told me what would be the best options for my hair. I left the salon knowing that my hair is in good hands next week. I come into my appointment and Rania shows me the result of my hair with no bleach and with bleach, which I ended up bleaching my hair because my hair is very black. The whole hair dying process went by well and I was pretty satisfied with the results when she was blow drying and styling my hair. She suggested really good hair products and so far, I'm enjoying them. When I checked out, I did it half cash-half card and the male receptionist seemed annoyed that I was making this transaction more difficult than it had to be. When I gave the cash, I expected to get change back because I gave a bit more than the total but he just looked at me like you can leave now. I asked for my change and he said "oh, people usually just hand the cash and leave." I also work in the service industry so I have dealt with similar situations but personally, I didn't think I was being that difficult with my split transactions. I left the salon slightly annoyed because of the final interaction I had but my experience with Rania was great. DO NOT get a pedicure from this place. AWFUL. Awful. First off I came in and the receptionist looked at me like a piece of garbage. No smile. And then told me I could hang my coat up in the corner. I go into the "pedicure room" and its two outdoor patio chairs. One with a cushion and the other with those massage things you get from Wal-Mart with the cord wrapped around the armrest. I opted for the other chair. I got to put my feet in a giant silver-mixing bowl. Like one you would buy at a kitchen supply store, with marbles on the bottom. Let me first say the lady who I did my pedicure was very nice and kind. We talked about all sorts of things. Which was nice. However she cut the sides of my big toenail. In the shape of a "V" but the tip part being more square. So now when my big toenail grows in, I will get an ingrown toenail because the sides are cut way too short. Then my heel got scrubbed so hard it left me with a scrape. And from clipping my big toenail she cut me. So when the polish and things went on, I wanted to scream. NOW comes THEE best part....there were no pedicure flip flops. So instead I was given PAPER shoes. And then she wrapped them with a rubber band around my foot. Mind you, that day it was pouring down rain and freezing. I had to walk two blocks, in the freezing rain, pretty much barefoot to my car. By the time I got the car, my feet were frozen and I was pissed. Pissed I just spent money on the most ghetto pedicure ever, pissed I had to walk down high with no shoes, pissed that I have a scrape that is now going to rub against my shoes for the next week and half. Save yourself some money and do not get a pedicure here. Oh and the room is dirty. Dust and nasty crumbs all along the wall. And I was given magazines from June 2011...like seriously? read more

I have kids and a busy schedule. I don't have hundreds of dollars or the time to spend for a salon srvc. So I been going to Aveda school on High St. (3yrs) to help cut cost. Well during my last visit the student (who was a senior) basically gave me a mullet cut when I asked for a simple trim & layers on top. That was the last straw...I had to find a salon that I can establish a relationship with- without the snobbish atmosphere and over price srvcs. Came across Phia on LinkedIn and read their reviews...I was intrigued by what I read and decided to make an appointment. My appt was on 3/21 at 8am. I walked in and was promptly greeted and was offered something to drink. I was impress by their cleanness, hospitality and warm welcome. I nervous that I may end up worse off then what I came in for because I already have a jacked up haircut from another salon and did not want a repeat of that. Lets just say after being seated right away and speaking with my stylist, he assured me that I was in good hands. The Phia professionals took their time and fixed my hair problem. Most importantly they informed me of the prices all the way thru! So no surprises during checkout. Casey did an awesome job on my color which I will go back to complete my color process! Sarah worked her magic with the scissor! And everything was done in less then 3hrs( vs. the 5hrs I used to sit at Aveda)... Love the ambiance! I love the personal touch (hand & scalp massage ). Not a SNOB in sight! everyone there were really nice & friendly ! They even gave me a first time visitor gift bag filled with lots of goodies! i got purple done for my birthday present and it looked absolutely beautiful! It lasted maybe 3 weeks (I paid $500). I went back in for a consultation to see what was wrong and they educated me and said it was the hair stylists fault and it was great but I have to spend another $250 to get it redone. Unfortunately, they have taken all my hard earned money and I cannot spend another $250. :/ read more

This is a really nice salon, you get very professional personalized service. They have excellent communication before and after your haircut. They also have a pretty neat line of beauty products and they do additional services like facial waxing. I was helped by Rachael who was extremely friendly and efficient. She listened to my requests and gave an excellent cut. If I was still in Columbus I would definitely be back. read more

My last experience at Phia was great! The wait time before my appointment was appropriate, staff was nice and accommodating and I always enjoy being offered a beverage. Shout out to Lindsey Hyde for giving me an awesome cut. I have seen her twice and each time I've been extremely satisfied. Not only did I receive compliments from fellow staff members about my new cut, my friends and family ranted and raved about it! The people are very nice and I have zero issues with their staff or salon. But I received the worst haircut I've ever gotten. I came prepared with pictures and everything. When the stylist showed me her idea for me, I gently redirected her back to what I asked for. I'm thinking the feedback I gave didn't sink in or wasn't understood. The end result had me in tears all the way home and I've never ever cried about a haircut before. I had grown my hair out for months to get a very specific style, and all that work is undone. The cut is too short to "fix" and I'm out of all the money I saved for this haircut. So there's nothing to do but wear a hat, hide inside for three months, and go somewhere else and pray it doesn't happen again. read more
