We had an amazing dinner at Philippe Chow! We ordered the Chicken Satay, Pork Dumplings, Crispy Beef, and the Beijing Chicken--every single dish was incredibly delicious. The restaurant is absolutely beautiful inside, and the service was top-notch. The waitstaff was incredibly attentive, and our water glasses were never left empty, which we really appreciated. My only minor critique is that it got a bit noisy, as we were seated right next to a large, rowdy group. I really wish they could seat larger groups a bit further away from smaller tables so everyone can enjoy the beautiful ambiance. Overall, though, we had a great time and will definitely be back! Complaint I dined at this restaurant on 7/19/26. My party drove from New Jersey looking forward to eating here after making the trip specifically for this experience. Unfortunately, we were turned away because we were allegedly not wearing the "appropriate sneakers." Every person in our party was wearing shoes that were clean, presentable, and appropriate for dining. As a result, one member of our party had to leave, drive to a Nike store, and spend over $100 on a new pair of sneakers just so we could be seated. That was incredibly frustrating and unnecessary. It left us wondering whether our money was somehow worth less because we weren't wearing a specific style or brand of shoe. We fully understand that restaurants have the right to enforce dress codes, but the policy as it was applied felt unreasonable and overly restrictive. Our attire was otherwise completely appropriate, respectful, and suitable for the setting. After traveling such a long distance, this was a disappointing way to begin our experience. I hope management will reconsider how this policy is enforced so that future guests are not put in the same position of having to spend additional money simply to be allowed to dine. read more

This is their lunch price fixe. It is $42. You get an appetizer, I got the chicken satay, you get 2. You can also get hot and sour Soup or chicken lettuce wraps. Then for an entree I got the filet mignon and green beans. They have bejing chicken, branzino, even Chilean sea bass as an $14 supplement. You get a thing of jasmine rice large enough to nauseate the keto crowd and then for desert either ice cream, seasonal sorbet. Or chocolate trilogy cake for an extra $8. Overall pretty good, chicken satay was great as usual. Filet mignon was really tender, didn't love the string beans. Very good! Chinese is always a difficult cuisine to impress with especially in New York where we have so much great Chinese food. However, Philippe Chow really does elevated Chinese well and we truly enjoyed every aspect of our meal. From each of the dishes we got to the fantastic lychee martinis we were well impressed with Philippe Chow. Service was very good although we had to wait a little for our table but that's OK. I've followed them on Instagram for a while, but experiencing it in person is a whole different level. The atmosphere is classy and pristine without being pretentious. I can see the appeal of this place for some people. It just wasn't for me. This is a very inauthentic higher end Chinese. Think of PF Changs but upscale. Food is so sweet here. And I mean everything. Even things that should not be sweet like sea bass was like eating dessert. So, if that's what you enjoy you will like this. But don't expect any real Chinese dishes here. Service was disappointing, especially the pacing of food. They brought us our appetizer and soup. Then that was followed by 1 dish. Okay, the tables are small so maybe they were going to bring one dish at a time which is fine. But no. With one main dish served we waited over 1/2 hour then all the remaining dishes came out at once. That's just poor management. Ambiance was hip and modern. Tables are a little too close and tight but okay it's NYC so I can accept that. They also had cute panda chopstick holders. Anyway, if you like sweet, inauthentic, fancy Chinese food this place is for you. It just wasn't what I am looking for when I go out for Chinese. After seeing a video on TikTok of a beautifully cooked duck being sliced, I knew this was a place to immediately put on my "must eat" list. I am absolutely obsessed with peking duck and was happy when I snagged a reservation. Here's the thing - it wasn't busy at all during lunch. I loved that because it was quiet and made for a great escape from the New York noise. The table next to us order the peking duck and it was huge. Definitely met for 3-5 people. Since it was just the two of us, we opted for the crispy duck instead, which was incredible. Service was friendly and attentive. Let's talk about the food: Steamed Dumpling Sampler: 5/5. I love steamed dumplings and being able to try multiple flavors was such a treat. Highly recommend this sampler if you are indecisive. Crispy Duck: 10000/10. Did not disappoint. As I type about it, my mouth is drooling. A must order if the peking duck is too big! Bok Choy: 5/5. There was the right amount of garlic on these. I went here for my birthday and its a pretty solid place Overall experience 4/5: I think the service is great, and everything in general feels like an elevated experience. Food: 4/5, now I had the chicken and broccoli and though it had a good flavor I didnt eat much of the chicken because it had that weird mystery meat texture that neighborhood chinese restaurants have so that was very shocking however my friend ordered the kung pao chicken so I ate her meal instead and it was very good. Im really disappointed about that chicken and broccoli though, they need to do better. The vegetable fried rice was my favorite thing there and so delicious!!! Drinks: 3/5 it was not bad it just tasted more like a glass of champagne than a cocktail but my friend's blueberry mojito was very delicious. Service: 4/5 but trending towards 3.5 because the wait staff is so aggressive! As soon as you put a dish down they are running to take it from you before you're even finished! And the attention to detail needs work because if you are drinking sparkling water and it's half empty they run and fill your glass up with regular water ruining the whole drink! This happened 3 separate times and we were not always quick enough to catch them in mid conversation. I have been to Philippe chow over 100 times since I first discovered it in 2018 and I can say each visit I feel nothing but welcomed by all the employees. The quality of the food it 10/10 and can honestly say I have yet to have a bad experience or bad dish at their uptown location. They play amazing music to compliment the dark, lowkey atmosphere. Shoutout to whoever has their phone hooked up to the Bluetooth. The must eats IMO are : Chicken Satays ( peanut sauce on the side ) , scallion pancakes, Chicken lettuce wraps, House mignon, Crispy Duck, Fried Rice / White Rice ( depends on preference ) There are other great dishes, but these are my go-to's. High class, Beijing style Chinese food right on the edge of Central Park south. There is a location of this restaurant further down on West 16th street, but this one is the original. Glitzy in decor, this is one restaurant I do not recommend coming in sweatpants, especially if you plan on stopping by during dinner. Wonton Soup The review begins in earnest with a soup I would eat anytime of year, whether it be 0 degrees or 100 degrees outside. The soup here is no exception. All the wontons, be them as they may (you only get maybe four to a serving), retain their texture and have good flavor. The rigidity of these things is important. I cannot tell you how many times I have seen these things fall apart. The clear broth they are served in is good too. Do yourself a favor and get the pork wontons over the chicken, if you are able to do so. Pork soup dumplings As I had tried some really good ones in Vancouver, I was hoping these would be right up as some of the best. Sadly, no. The whole "soup" spills out immediately when grabbed. The outsides were slightly undercooked, and the meat inside needs a bit more time to cook as well. Six of these things is a nice size, and the dipping sauce works well, but I needed firmness here and this one does not deliver when it comes to that. Chicken Satay Taking a small break from the Dim Sum-esque items, I got to trying what appears to be one of the most popular items in the restaurant, the Chicken Satay. This one had a lot of potential to be great, but the sauce it is just way too overpowering in taste, including its pungent smell. The chicken is a tad dry too. Still, looking back, I am happy I ordered these, because they set me up well for my final dish, the chicken flat noodles. Chicken flat noodles For my main entree, I got this, and I was really hoping to bring it on home with this entree. The portion size is generous, and the chicken here is beautifully cooked and tastes extraordinary. It literally melts like butter in your mouth. The noodles taste fresh and act like spools of ribbons working your way back to the esophagus to allow more of a savory experience. The sauce is a bit on the salty side, as I was going through plenty of water while eating this, but it still was great to eat. Conclusion For upscale Chinese, the value is great. Good portions and enough for two people to be satisfied or one really hungry person. The service was good too, as my water glass was full most of the time despite my heavy consumption of water. The prices are pretty good as well if planning to come here with a large group. I would come back for dinner, but recommend it for either lunch or dinner. read more

We had a wonderful experience here last night. The ambiance is casual and romantic. They also have Amazing food , we tried different items to see what we liked best. For starters we tried the Chicken Satay and the Chicken Lettuce Wrap, I preferred the Chicken Satay. The entrees we selected was the Crispy Beef; my favorite of course. My husband had the Bejin Chicken (Similar to Changs Spicy Chicken) it was okay. For sides we had the fried rice , green beans, and noodles. Of course the noodles was my absolute favorite ! And last but not least for desserts we had the red velvet cake (had a coconut taste, I wasn't a fan. I prefer cream cheese instead) and the the chocolate cake which was pretty good. I can't remember the server name but he help make some great recommendations. And the drinks are delicious too, especially the watermelon margaritas; it's so refreshing and good. We had a wonderful experience at the Uptown location last night. The hostess, despite being busy, greeted me with a smile on her face. Our waiter, Rilind, was out of this world! It was apparent that he loves what he does, and his warm personality speaks volumes. For appetizers, we ordered the chicken satay, the honey walnut shrimp, as well as the shrimp and pork soup dumplings. The satay is definitely the best I've ever had. No where else can you find chicken satay that just melts in your mouth like butter, without being drowned in peanut sauce. I've tried the satay at Panda, as well as Jue Lan, and I think Philippe's is hands down, my favorite in NYC. I think I will try the shrimp (yes they have shrimp satay) next time! My other favorite appetizer was the walnut shrimp. It has this unique creaminess with a little tinge of salty at the end, that is complimented by the sweet crunchiness of the candied walnuts. My only regret is not having ordered a to go order of this! For entrees, we ordered vegetable lo mein, chilean sea bass, and the kung pao chicken. I was honestly too full from the apps and my philippitinis, that I can't say too much here. The sea bass tasted a bit too fishy for my liking, but nothing that a twirl of lo mein and a sip of lychee martini can't cure. We had plenty of leftovers to take home, which I look forward to eating later today. Can't wait to return in the near future!!!! read more

But we felt the food was too much for our party of 8. Plus we wanted to try a few items not on either tasting menu. So Florian helped us curate our own tasting menu. Everything we ordered was delicious. We started with the duck spring rolls (yum), lettuce wraps, and wagyu beef dumplings. For mains, we got the sea bass, salt & pepper chicken, crispy duck (a must get), filet mignon with green beans. For sides, we got fried rice, Bok Choi (so good), & Mr. Chengs noodles. We both had the same thing which was the veggie lo mein, veggie fried rice, and the crispy beef as well as the red velvet cake and chocolate cake for dessert.
