I was craving a really good cheesesteak that wasn't from a chain and saw Philly Cold Cuts closest on the radar, along with a couple others but this was one I haven't tried yet. I know this place has been around for a long time and I can't believe it's taken me this long to check this place out. Lemme tell you- the customer service really impressed me from the moment I stepped up to the counter. The gentleman that greeted me was very helpful and friendly. I decided to go for the shorty cheesesteak, hoagie style, with hot peppers (based on prior reviews, it looked like a popular choice). I had it as a combo with fries (you can opt for chips too) and a fountain drink. As I sat waiting for my food, I observed the other employees working and saw how pleasant they were with each customer that walked in. I didn't wait long and couldn't wait to go home and eat. You know when you crave something and you finally get to have it and it doesn't disappoint? This did it for me. The sandwich was excellent and so were the fries. I don't think I'll do the peppers again, it was a little too spicy for me but that didn't stop me from destroying it. I'll be back again for sure. read more

Me and my cousin saw in an article this year that Philly cold cuts won best cheese steak in either Hampton Roads or VA...not real sure either way that's a high honor. So of course we had to check it out. Not a standout location, kind of in the middle of a strip of businesses. Really cool decor of blown up photos of all the famous people that have come thru and eaten there. The man behind the counter was really nice and helpful with letting us know what the cheese steak cam with/without (you'd be surprised). The food came out in about 20 min which was nice during lunch hours. The food was hot and delish, the meat had really good flavoring. They don't short you on the portions either. I got the philly with no sides and walked away stuffed Definitely recommend, and we will be back! read more

Heard mixed reviews about this place so we gave it a try. We ordered a regular Philly cause what else would we order. It was a Monday afternoon and there was only a few people in there. The sub took 25 minutes and was nothing special. Would recommend "Iggles"down the road if you're looking for something quicker and way better. read more

Love the name of this little joint tucked away off the corner of Great Neck and Virginia Beach Blvd. I must admit that I have driven by this eatery hundreds of times. Regrettably I have never pulled the trigger on trying it. On occasion I have seen employees with tiny signs walking along Great Neck to generate business. I always thought this seemed bizzare and have mistaken them for panhandlers. Not trying earlier was a huge error that had to be rectified. This is one of those gems at the beach that not enough people know about, but should. I checked out Philadelphia Cold Cuts last month for a late lunch based on some sweet reviews on Yelp, thanks Rick and Ed. So after going to my favorite wine store around the corner (you know the place) I knew this would be PCC Day. Upon pulling up directly in front of the store there was no issues with parking. The place is a throw back to another era, so don't expect anything fancy about the exterior facade. The lot and sidewalk was clean. I entered and found two customers enjoying a meal. A large counter is directly in front, tables in the middle and booths on the exterior walls. The small sandwich shop had cool painted murals on the walls. One side has a old city scene and the other is sports themed. The floors are checkerboard tile. The vibe seems just perfect and fits the quaint bistro so well. You can even find a Ms. Pacman in the dining room. If you see high score JDH don't be surprised. I am a fan without having even tried a bit of their food. The menu is more diverse than I expected with some burgers, hot dogs and even spaghetti. So you can find more than just a cheesesteak for multiple visits. The large menu board across the front of the counter at ceiling height makes it easy to decide what to try. But for me it had to be the cheesesteak and fries on a first visit. The woman behind the counter understanding it was my first time went through some menu choices. After hearing about some options I put in my order. The price was fantastic for the combo of sandwich, fries and drink I sat myself at a table and within 10 minutes a very HOT sandwich and fries arrived at my table. The steam permeating from the top of the basket filled the air in front of me with the wonderful sweet aroma of steak, cheese and grease... oh yea it's on baby! The first bite exceeded my expectations. The bread was so fresh and pulled it all together. Add the fries which were crispy, golden brown and seasoned just right and you have an exceptional meal. This was indeed a place that I needed to give some word of mouth, because my perception is they do little advertising. I concluded with a quick stop to the facilities and found them down a short corridor beside the kitchen. The walls seemed freshly painted, everything worked and it was spotless. For that matter everything in the restaurant was clean. Just don't expect things to look new, but everything is extremely well maintained. I fully expect a return visit soon, but probably not before Ted S. has already claimed his Dukedom here. Don't tell anyone, but poor Ted S. has a cheesesteak addiction. Next visit I will definitely make room and include there famous cheesecake. If your wanting to try a new place and desire to stay away from a chain keeping it local hit them up, you will not regret the choice. read more

I'd say that it was the best cheesesteak I've ever had in Virginia Beach, but I think that it's the only cheesesteak I've had in Virginia Beach. And it was a really good one. Made to order even when it's busy, expect to wait a few minutes for your name to be called or your order to be brought to your table. While you're waiting, munch away on some Utz salt and vinegar chips. Mmmm... cheese and meat (and some mushrooms) grilled onto a soft bun. It was excellent. As good as you're going to get from someplace *other* than Pat's King of Steaks in Philly. Sure, they have other stuff including "chicken Philly" and burgers and other sliced meats, but if you're here, you need to have the cheesesteak and get your meat craving satisfied. Tried this place for lunch after hearing it won some award for best Philly cheese steak. It's a small place when you come in and the menu is large and easy to make out. The gentleman who took my order was very nice and we waited about 15 min for our subs. The taste was worth the wait. Really flavorful and the cheese was all melted throughout. This is not a cheesesteak. It is an extremely hot mouthful of low quality chopped beef slathered in hot, not sautéed, not cooked onions and slimy white melted cheese like Velveeta but white. I've had philly cheesesteak in Philly, New York, Chicago, Dallas... Even small towns in Missouri. This is probably the least like a real cheesesteak ever. I suspect people who love these either haven't tried the real deal or are just extremely hungry. But two stars for the friendly staff, fast service and nice patrons and clean restaurant. read more

Got a sandwich here yesterday. I got the Italian shorty to go. Unfortunately like with many sub shops I found Philly Cold Cuts bread to be unsatisfactory. It was to much and hard, it may have been stale but at any rate it just wasn't good and there is to much of it. I found the staff to be indifferent and unhelpful bordering on rude. I was hangry! So a fellow Elite and I visited this place for some good grub. As far as looks go, this place doesn't look like the food would be good. It's also a little small on the inside, but it's always places like this that prove you wrong, at least most of the time. We walked in, my friend ordered the Philly Cheesesteak, I ordered the Chicken Cheesesteak. The lady who took our order was friendly but you can tell she felt a little rushed, it was busy in there, I get it! I loaded my cheese steak with onions and managed to skip the L & T. I kind of wish I didn't. My friend's sandwich looked deliciouso with it! They gave us a good amount of fries, I just wished there was some malt to put on them! Get the combo, you get fries or chips, a sandwich, and a fountain drink. I didn't realize it until you walk out, but they have pictures of some famous people who have come to visit this place. Passed this place hundreds of times. Today I just happened to give it a try because -- I was starving. The inside is not fancy ... but it works. The menu has a variety of choices. The ladies behind the counter was very nice and explained the menu to me in detail. Now to the Food! Both me and my girlfriend LOVED these cheesesteaks. I had the regular cheesesteak with provolone, grilled onions and hot peppers (note: you have to ask for hot peppers--it adds some kick to the sandwich. My girlfriend had the chicken cheesesteak. Both sandwiches were not greasy, had excellent flavor and the bread was soft. I highly recommend stopping here. It doesn't disappoint. I recently asked around among the Hampton Roads Yelp elite about the best cheesesteak in the 757 and this place kept coming up. I have to TOTALLY agree with all of those Yelpers. The spot is the best cheesesteak I've had in this area! First of all the bread was fresh, chewy and delicious. You cannot have a good cheesesteak without good bread! Secondly, in true Philly fashion, this place makes them with cheese whiz. (The only way to go.)The meat was properly seasoned and very tasty! They sell a 6 inch, 10 inch and a 17 inch! You can guess which I got! I destroyed that sandwich with a vengeance! Do yourself a favor and forget ordering French fries and just get more sandwich. You won't regret it! 5 stars for atmosphere: It reminds me of a favorite sub shop I go to in Jersey. They even had snapple & Mystic in their cooler section. 5 stars for service: The owners & staff are very hospitable and friendly. You are greeted as soon as you walk in. 4 stars for food: The first time I went, I had the chicken cheese philly which was amazing. We also had the cheese fries which were also really good. The second time we went, my husband and I got the Philly steak and for some reason, the steak tasted and smelled funky. Neither of us finished our subs and they ended up in the trash. Ted S. , my good friend, was to meet me for lunch while I was in town for the Holidays. I suggested a spot where we could grab a philly. I followed suit, thinking, "When in Rome..." One bite in and I heard angels chorusing, trumpets blasting as if Heaven was ripping through the eastern sky. The bread. The whiz.
