Ordered pretzel and pretzels with dogs platters for my Oktoberfest party. Raves from all of my guests. Great place!

This time I came in with my parents after my wife kept raving about the Dominican chimi and the grilled chicken. We came specifically to try those and, as usual, left completely satisfied. I ordered the chimi and the picadera again, and once more we were blown away. The picadera was stacked with tostones, grilled chicken, fried chicken, fried pork chops, and fried ham. Everything was hot, seasoned well, and cooked exactly the way it should be. The chimi was excellent from the first bite to the last, and the mayo-ketchup tied all the flavors together perfectly. Honestly, just look at the food. I don't know why I even need to keep explaining it. Stop reading the reviews and go eat. Yes, it's that good. Yes, you get real value for your money. And yes, you will walk away full. You're welcome. 5/5 stars.

I quickly consulted The Yelp and found this nice sit-down place, so we came on over and enjoyed a restaurant to ourselves on a Saturday afternoon. (I won't lie - "Ixchel Bakery" caught my eye first for the name alone - but I haven't checked that out yet; we were there for lunch, not dessert.) What caught me first is that the logo sign inside is exactly what Yelp events want. I told them about potentially hosting Yelp events in the future... Anyway, the menu is straight Dominican Republic, and I enjoyed comparing the similarities and differences to my local Honduran restaurant. Some very authentic dishes on the menu here, lovingly and authenticly prepared. We started with a pair of empanadas for appetizer, the res and the pollo y queso. I'm an empanada snob but these have a nice balance of ingredients and flavors, good size for the price. While the mondongo intrigued me, I went with the equally intriguing Yaroa, a Dominican street food with meat and cheese on a bed of green plantains (or fries, if you prefer), topped with ketchup and white sauce. I'm not a ketchup person, but I wanted the dish exactly as it comes, and that's good because it tasted excellent as it came. And it arrived right as we finished the empanadas. The staff were very friendly, but a bit focused on kitchen operations; I did have to flag someone down at one point for a water refill. So that is the one imperfection in an otherwise wonderful experience, and not worth docking a star over. I would absolutely come back here again. The owner was talking potential redecoration, I was talking about trying other dishes - so there are convenient excuses moving forward. :)

The Burg Loft hit me with some lofty burgsquirt this time around. So lofty and luscious that I had to return to update my review. I rarely do that, it's so rare that you'd call it raw. Hit em with a claw. Chomping down at the jaw I roar a raw roar of surprise and roar so joyous in nature that it reminds a chicken that it was once a Tyrannosaurus rex. Always remember who you really are under that grease ball facade you keep. The years have served ya well, Burger Loft. This classic was scrumptious. One of the best double smashed I've had. Not overly salty, not overly greasy, not too crisp, not undercooked, super juicy, great taste, perfect amount of cheese and a nice homemade sauce on a solid but undemanding bun. I love an undemanding bun that deserves some funk and crunk out of some quality meat. Woof woooooooooof. Awooooooo. Oh no. The blue moon beckons me. I must wrap this up quickly - You won't like me when the clock strikes midnight. Simple. Traditional. A classic. Burger Loft - A true BILF. A fine wine. It was nice to see you again, babe, and I hope you thought the same. Price to quality ratio is a 5 star... tastiness itself still a Yelp 5 rounded up. I'm proud of you - be proud of yourself. We felt the hot dogs were rubbery in texture, and they tasted like they were reheated. The matzoh ball soup was bland. My mother enjoyed her pastrami sandwich. As far as atmosphere goes, the first table we sat at was wobbly. and when we transfered to the other, we found the table and season shakers to be sticky. The greatest disappointment was not the mediocre food, or the sticky table but what we witnessed. An elderly couple was sitting at the other table. The gentleman asked a server, possibly the owner or manager, for a glass of tap water. The response from the server was, "We don't have glasses of water here, but you can buy a bottle and I'll bring your two cups." We found this to be uncourteous and unwelcoming, and we felt a little embarassed for the nice couple. It seems that when a nice couple comes in to patronize your restaurant, and purchase a lunch, a little water would not be an unreasonable request. Any restaurant that treats elderly people this way will not receive my future business.

As others have noted, they just expanded to include dinner hours some days, but we showed up for lunch and were seated right away. Menu isn't super huge, so I settled in the Burger area and noticed right away the price discrepancies. Deluxe burgers (with fries) typically cost $2 more than regular (without). Except the pizza burger costs $3 more and the cheddar chili burger costs $1 more. Dear Little Diner: Fix that. Make the fries $2 and call it a day. Once I discovered my ladyfriend was ordering a dish that automatically came with fries even though she didn't want them, I decided I would just order a regular. Bacon & Bleu Cheeseburger, add avocado. I love those flavors, but here's another problem in the menu. It says: (1/2 Ib. Burger) Made from 100% Pure, Fresh Beef Served w/ Cole Slaw, Pickles, Lettuce & Tomato Deluxe Served w/ French Fries. Add Avocado 1.99 And then under the list of burgers: Burger Add-Ons Bacon, Avocado or Sautéed Mushrooms $2.99 Extra So which would it be? I asked and the waitress said $1.99, so I went for it. Turns out that, as I rather suspected, the avocado was billed at $2.99. Maybe - MAYBE - it's $1.99 if you order it with the fries, but why only the avocado? I brought this up and they agreed to cut the $1 off my bill since the menu indeed has this ambiguity. They were very nice about it, so just maybe that was put back into their tip. (: So, dear Little Diner: Also fix that. Just delete the little Avocado bit at the beginning. Ambiance: Nice breakfast place. Service: Very friendly and accommodating. Food: Worth coming back for. The only drawback is inconsistent menu pricing... so just ask if anything is unclear. I'll have to come back with a breakfast hankering next time and try that side of the menu.

In fact, I was one of their first customers to order when they first opened (was over an hour late - didn't complain off course, since I have been in the business). Now mind you, this has nothing to do with $$ whatsoever, but just a comment on how businesses are run now a days with a lack of logic, decency or customer service. It's indicative of our current culture, which is sad to see. So, quick story - we have accumulated numerous "pizzas cards" that they distributed in the past (collect 12 / get a free pizza; btw, we have so many) etc.. etc... Called in an order, but was told they stopped doing that (which is fine, I get it). Again, not the $$ - its like $20.00. But just the culture of a haphazard way to run a business/organization. (BTW - This person has no idea how long we have been customers :)) And we see it throughout now. I would expect that from a Dominos/ Pizza Hut etc., not from a community establishment. But anyway, just wanted to get the off my chest. There are many other options for pizza, but customer service is so important. Take some advice from an old timer - you need to use common sense when dealing with customers :)

Located in a small plaza with 7-11 and a few other small stores, we were greeted right away upon entering. There were a few customers but it was not packed which meant we got a booth, yay. The waiter informed us of the specials, most of which I hesitate to order at a diner: paella, octopus, steak, etc. The menu is plentiful with the usual items as well as more Spanish dishes like empanadas, Spanish breakfast, etc. The Italian vegetable panini with salad was not bad but it was odd that the salad had the same ingredients as the panini (sans portobellos), leaving the while dish feeling one note. The burger was the typical diner burger. Overall pricing was okay, given rising costs, though some of the entrees were $25-30+, which i wouldn't do. I wonder what the Spanish dishes would have tasted like because perhaps those are their stars. Service was attentive, though it felt like they were trying to make this more into an elevated experience vs. what it was. I did like the bathrooms a little better than other diners, and I felt pretty comfortable in the little restaurant space.
