I stopped in for coffee with a friend. Philz provided a quiet space, that was clean with open space. Service was fast, and they provided adequate customer service for sure. They have an interesting menu with a lot of Philz specific creations. I ordered a mocha, and it was good but it was very sweet and had settled at the bottom. One of my fav coffee shops! This location in particular is busy due to it being in the vicinity of UCSD. I like how spacious it was compared to other Philz's I've been to. I came here around noon on a Sunday and it was packed. However, they have a very efficient system and we were out of there in less than 10 minutes. Phil'z coffee has become a part of my morning routine. Something about the coffee here is truly addicting. I like to order on the app once I get to La Jolla. My go to order is the mint mojito "the house way". The mint mojito coffee is iced coffee with fresh muddled mint leaves, heavy cream and some kind of sweetener. It's something different and it's amazing. I will say, I've never had a bad coffee here. Philtered soul, Philz Way, it's honestly hard to go wrong. I just wish I could add some espresso shots to my coffee! That's something that they don't offer :( I love really strong coffee and at Philz, the coffee is in the mild category when it comes to strength. Is it still delicious? Absolutely. The service is always great. My order is always ready on time. My only complaint is if I order something on the app and I wanted to order one more thing on the app, it doesn't let you. I use to go to Philz for their mocha before realizing I would always get jittery afterwards. Their coffee is much stronger than other coffee places. I was in the area so decided to stop by. All orders are taken through their mobile app which is safer but kind of inconvenient for someone who probably didn't plan on coming frequently to have another app. Matcha!! I was very surprised to see this on the menu and it must be new since I was in a Philz in March. I had to try it! Their iced matcha was very creamy and just the right amount of sweetness at medium sugar. The matcha is definitely not as concentrated here so it's a good intro to matcha. Stopped in here after a meeting because anytime I see a Philz I have to stop by! I ordered my typical Philtered soul with creamy oat milk and sweet. I ordered on the app since I had another meeting to get to. The app let me know Ren was making my order and it came out perfect! It was so delicious. The space is super cute and a lot of people were working on their computers. If I had the time, I would have opened my laptop to work there, too. It has been a while since I've been up in the UTC area! It's nice to be back, especially if there's a delicious cup of Philz to be had! The mobile ordering process has been super smooth for me, and I've never had to wait very long (if at all) for my order. The staff I've encountered were always friendly and/or helpful, and would ask for my name within a few minutes (probably way less) of me standing around their mobile pick up order area. I must admit that I have not tried any other Philz drink except for the iced mint mojito. That being said, the iced mint mojito has always been consistent...ly delicious, which I appreciate. You know how it is at coffee shops; sometimes one barista makes it a certain way, or the ingredients are off, or something, and your regular go-to drink ends up tasting different every time. I ordered a medium honey haze with half honey. This drink has cold brew, honey, and oat milk. If I ordered it again, I would probably get less oat milk in it just to save the calories. I'm sure it would still be smooth and flavorful with less oat milk and less honey. The employees were kind and made my drink quickly. If I had a remote job, I could see working in this coffee shop. I ordered a mobile order and went up to check if it was ready and was approached with instant rudeness from the baristas working. They should really reconsider how they treat people. Our morning coffee was like any other. I ordered a Mocha Phil's way and it was very bland. On Yelp, there were a lot of avocado toast pictures and other breakfast quick fixes but I learned that at this location, they do not serve avocado toasts...disappointing. I ended up with a plant powered sandwich, reminded me of a McDonald's egg McMuffin but it was tasty. After placing an order, they ask for a name for the order so while we waited, we expected to hear names for the orders when it was ready for pick up....nope, they yelled out the names of the coffees and we had no idea how many of the 40 customers had ordered the same things. Perhaps it was just the barista who prepared our order, we were confused. But we looked carefully at the cups and found the name for our order to be sure we grabbed the right order. It's a little intimidating at first because there are lots of choices, but the cashier was helpful with info and advice. I am grateful to have a Philz right next to campus but it's obvious everyone at UCSD has the exact same thought because it's ALWAYS super crowded here! Nonetheless, I still try to come here to study because it's close to home and it's filled with motivated people also getting work done. There are a few large tables and some counter top seating. You just have to suck it up and probably share a table with some strangers once in a while. It's a large plaza with lots of parking but sometimes parking can be really tough during lunch hours so be prepared. I used to always get the mint mojito every time I was here, but I decided to try to spice up my order recently. I discovered the iced rose and I think it's super unique and floral and delicious. The new version is with cream but they also have the old version that you can ask for which is with oat milk that my barista told me about. It's my first time trying Philz Coffee and I already know this is a review I'll have to update later when I actually try their coffee (which I hear is very good!). But I actually ordered their Herbal Mint Tea - medium, medium honey, no cream ($4.60). Often, I order a tea and pay the same price to get a cup of hot water with simple tea bags. Not bad, expected, but also nothing special. But this time, I was actually very impressed with their tea. I did not expect to find fresh sprigs of mint in my tea. The menu said it had "fresh mint, cardamom, cucumber" and it definitely delivered. Would definitely come back and try some of their other drinks again. Fantastic tea and coffee, horrifically long lines that don't move very fast but friendly service. More like 3.5 stars rounded up. But 5 stars for the beverages at least. The co-habby enjoyed their Mint mojito as he drinks coffee and I don't. He opted for no sugar and had zero complaints. I ordered the Philz Iced Tea since I'm a mint fanatic and had it lightly sweetened. I do appreciate the fresh sprigs of mint that they place atop their drinks. Light and refreshing plus not too sweet. I just discovered their app and love all of the different options they offer to truly customize your drink exactly as you like it. We've yet to try their other beverages or food there but the next time we are in the area, we will stop by. At least during a time slot when the wait isn't more than 20-30 minutes if that's even humanly possibly. But I suppose that just indicates that they serve up a mean cup of coffee. Cheers! read more

They grind the beans fresh and brew one cup at a time so the flavors are pretty robust considering that it's cheaper than starbucks. There's plenty of seating if you wish to work/study here. A lot has changed at most of the Philz locations I've been to ever since they fully re-opened after COVID. You no longer order in front of the baristas, the cashiers take your order now. Lots of mobile orders happening at this location as well. I feel like the quality of your drink depends on the barista that makes it. Sometimes that means it can be a hit or miss but more recently, the drinks have been really yummy. My favorite is the Tesora or Jacob's Wonderbar (iced, sweet & creamy). The Mint Mojito is also an all time favorite for most Philz lovers but I feel like some baristas just put way too much mint or don't make it sweet/creamy enough. Definitely still one of my fav coffee shops in the area and I also am a fan of their Tesora whole beans that they sell in stores! read more

Stopped by Philz for a coffee around 12pm on a Friday. First, be aware that this entire shopping center is ridiculously crowded around lunch time. It can take a long time to find parking. On this visit, it took me 10 minutes to locate a place to park. When I got to Philz there was a sign on the door saying it was closed due to flooding. Apparently there had been a flood earlier so all off the furniture was pushed to the side and there was very limited seating. The store had reopened although no one had removed the sign. I ordered a large Tesora, which was good. However, $5.50 for a large drip coffee with honey and a splash of cream feels ridiculous. If I weren't really in the need for coffee I would have gone somewhere else and saved a couple of dollars. Overall, their coffee is good, but it feels overpriced. I will say the service was extremely fast and very friendly. All of the employees were really nice and it only took a few minutes for me to get my order. The barista even asked me to taste it to make sure it had enough honey and cream. I did want a little more, which she happily added. In general, I tend to really enjoy and love Philz coffee, but far too many mistakes have hindered me from enjoying this location. Which is a shame because it's a convenient one. I gave this place so many chances too which makes me feel really frustrated and upset. This location tends to hire college students, which means turnover of employees seems to be fast and perhaps, that's why many drinks turn out to be the wrong one because they aren't trained enough. The first couple times, I let it go, it happens but I have to mention the Mission Cold Brew I order is VERY often confused for the Philtered Soul Cold Brew I receive which is even a HAZARD because what if I was someone who had a severe nut allergy? I can immediately tell when they messed up and swapped the drink because I strongly dislike that flavor. I don't understand how especially for that drink order, they wouldn't be careful about one of the most common allergies. Please be careful about ordering drinks here because they aren't being careful. What makes it worse is that my partner wakes up early to treat me to coffee (5am) as a encouragement when I have an important event. After the fourth? time of this disappointment, after the event, I even headed back to let them know about this wrong order and the super super short interaction was that barista was nice and swapped the drink for the right one in actually a minute (not sure if I even felt my pricey drink was worth it at that point)...and that others seemed unfriendly, (they weren't super busy). But I still felt wronged after driving there later in the day and the constancy of wrong orders happening. I don't know if I expected for them to apologize or offer anything, but it was overall frustrating. They just don't pay attention. I also have to say that that coffee quality is also very inconsistent. The baristas who make really good drinks make it well when I tend to order a New Manhattan sweet and creamy, but the ones who don't... all tend to have VERY varying amounts of what sweet is. (I hate saying this) but it tends to suck when I can see a name on the app that we know is consistently bad, making the order. (i don't feel the need to name names.) I love coffee and I love Philz. Stopped by when I was in town recently and loved it! I've had Philz before (in SF and Berkeley) but it's been awhile. I placed an order for Mint Mojito and it was delicious as always. Also bought a pack of Philtered Soul beans to take home and enjoy. The staff here is super friendly and helpful.
