Came here with my coworkers to check out this location! This used to be PhoX and now is Pho 909 since August of 2024. Menu being almost exactly the same as PhoX, I wasn't expecting anything. I ordered pho as I was craving noodles and it just tasted ordinary. The noodles were a tad better but the soup was super oily. Basil leaves weren't super fresh and I think they gave you less bean sprouts than before. Because the restaurant is still in grand opening, I was able to get free Thai tea and coconut jelly by checking in on Yelp (take advantage of that!) and we also received a 10% off our order. Looks like Pho 909 replaced the old Pho X. New menu, recipes & staff. Interior still remains the same as before. Was seated by one of the staff and took my order at the table. Ordered a rare steak, tendon, flank & tripe pho. Food came out fast, piping hot and with plenty of condiments. Food was good but nothing special. This place is a great find. I'm not a huge fan of pho, but my husband loves it! So we came to check it out. Not only does it have a nice peaceful feel to it, service is amazing and the food is absolutely delicious! Since I'm vegetarian I had the garlic butter noodles and substituted the fried chicken with fried tofu. Best decision ever! I also got the vegetable egg rolls so yummy... and that sauce! Yum! Still saddened by the loss of Pho X, many people have been waiting for the restaurant that would take its place. With the opening of Pho 909, I figured I'd drop by and try a spread of their dishes and compare to the many other Vietnamese restaurants in the area. Now looking at the restaurant's menu online, there seemed to be a variety of items to order. From a diverse appetizer section to robust pho and vermicelli dishes, the new restaurant seemed to be just like the other places in the Walnut area. Looking to try a few different things, I decided to call in around around 7:45PM on a Sunday night. For this experience, I chose an order of Deep Fried Tofu ($9.00), 4 Piece Spring Roll ($9.50), Combination Fried Rice ($18.00), and a Grilled Pork, Egg Roll, & Shrimp Paste Vermicelli ($17.50). The server told me my food would be ready in 20 minutes and I made my way over to pick up my food. Because I came in during the Grand Opening special, I received 10% off my entire order. In addition to this, the menu in the restaurant mentioned that you can receive a free Thai Tea with a check-in on Yelp (which I totally forgot). Now checking my receipt after I left the restaurant, I noticed the spring rolls were listed as $11.00 instead of the $9.50 that was listed on the menu. It's possible that this was a mistake, especially since the restaurant just recently opened. But it was unexpected to see I was overcharged $1.50 for the food. Taking a look at all of the dishes for the first time, I was pretty impressed with the portion given. Starting with the Deep Fried Tofu, there were about a good 20-25 small pieces inside with a side of spicy peanut sauce. Looking at the Spring Rolls next, the four I received were pretty large in size. Comparing the ratio of ingredients, I was happy that the size of the shrimp and the amount of pork was almost as much as the vegetables inside. The spring rolls came with two sides of peanut sauce which was generous for the amount of food inside. Moving to check out the Combination Fried Rice, the size of the box was somewhat small. But because the pork, chicken, sausage, and barbecued pork made up about 40% of the dish, I was satisfied with the ratio of ingredients. The only negative in the portion category would be that there was no shrimp in the Combination Fried Rice when the menu states shrimp should be included. For last, the Grilled Pork, Egg Roll, & Shrimp Paste Vermicelli was given in pretty generous size. For one, the vegetables made up 30% of the box, the noodles made it up another 30%, the egg rolls made up 20%, the grilled pork made up 15%, and the shrimp paste took up the last 5%. For this dish, the only gripe I have is the lack of fish paste included. Looking at the pictures on the menu, I was expecting 4 pieces to come with the dish. But unfortunately, I only received one. Comparing the price to portion ratio of all of the dishes, the Deep Fried Tofu was good for the $9. The Spring Rolls would have been a steal for $9.50. But because I was charged $11, the price to portion ratio is only good at best. For the Combination Fried Rice, the price to portion was good because of the meat given. And for last, the price to portion for the Grilled Pork, Egg Roll, and Shrimp Paste Vermicelli was decent. For the first week of being open, the food was better than I initially anticipated it to be! Tasting the Deep Fried Tofu first, the coating was thin which let the tofu shine as the highlight of the dish. The flavor was subtly savory which tasted great; I just wish there was a stronger salt and pepper flavor associated with the dish. For next, the Spring Rolls had a layer of fresh lettuce and beansprouts which really set the tone for the dish. The pork inside was both subtly savory and sweet which helped the fishy taste from the large pieces of shrimp on top. Dipping the spring rolls into the peanut sauce was also welcomed greatly for its sweet and nutty taste! Trying the fried rice next, the dish as a whole leaned more on the sweet side. But because the peas, carrots, and majority of the meats were sweet, it did not bother me too much. To counter these flavors, the rice and egg contributed the savory flavor that the dish really needed. And for last, the vermicelli was overall refreshing! While the vegetables provided moisture, the pork, shrimp paste, and egg rolls were sweet and crisp. Even though each had their own distinct taste, they were all cohesive which was much appreciated. Pho 909 is off to a good start with their diverse menu of options. All of the dishes I had were solid and tasted of very high quality. That being said though, the overcharge for $1.50 for the spring rolls, the lack of shrimp paste in the vermicelli, and the lack of shrimp in the fried rice were all factors that detracted from my first experience. I argue Pho 909 sits at a good 4/5 stars, but could have easily earned a 5 star rating without the hiccups. Give them a try for yourself and see what you think! read more

Food: (2/10) The Pho, I got the brisket and beef rib pho and it was the most flavorless soup I've ever had. I don't expect Westminster quality in these areas but this tasted like the powdered stuff I can get at the Asian market except water it down even more. The rib had a small sliver of meat and the brisket was no more than three pieces. My husband got the Bun Bo Hue, it came with a couple slices of meat and a hoof, very mediocre broth. The wings were incredibly salty, we got the fish sauce ones, not flavorful. Salt doesn't always equate to flavor. The best thing about the food was the half lime that was complimentary to the soups, good quality lime. The price is too expensive for what you get. Service: (1/10) right when I walked in I smiled and said hi and the guy at the register looked mad. He asked if we were going to eat there or take the food to go and told us to sit, no smile, really annoyed attitude, only spoke directly to my husband when we were there and ignored me. We were the only ones there and he wasn't attentive at all. Ambiance: (8/10) the restaurant looked perfect and was very clean, knocking off points for the loud and obnoxious YouTube festival EDM that was blasting so loud I couldn't hear my husband talk. I was visiting my kid at Cal Poly nearby and family wanted to eat a hearty lunch... so glad to discover this new place it was awesome with delicious Vietnamese food which is so close to several colleges CPP, Mount Sac. So Lucky for the students to enjoy!! We loved the beef pho, the chicken with garlic noodles, shrimp spring rolls, the vermicelli with grilled pork & cha gio egg rolls ... everything was authentic (just like my mom makes!) Steven who's the owner is so nice and polite, and he said his mom is the Chef in the kitchen ( AHA that's why it's all like home-made). The noodles were good, but despite ordering two large portions, the serving size was smaller than what you'd typically get at similar local spots. It is a medium-large-ish sized restaurant...they have about 16 tables that seat 4 and a few that seat 2. I would say the pho here emphasizes quality over quantity. I would say it tends on above average compared to most pho places. The portion is small-medium size but has a hearty soup. It's not flat or watery, they somehow made it balanced and it came out rich, not too sweet, but not too tangy. Price averages a little high 15-17$ for a main dishbut I definitely felt they invested into using decent ingredients with it. Best way to describe it is fresh, balanced, naturally tasty, and brunchy. Good for solo diners and small groups. They offer purple onions. They have hooked spoons to prevent falling into the bowl. It is dimly lit and has a casual dive bar-ish vibe. Waiters are friendly and dressed casually (ie t-shirt/jeans/apron). Not too chatty but still amiable. Decor is travel license plates, signs, mild neon lights. Light music and generally a quiet atmosphere ran by simple foreign vietnamese locals. They have windows for walls so you can look outside. They have vegetarian options. They accept cash/credit card/apple pay/google pay but not venmo. They have 2 bathrooms. They have toddler high chairs. They do take out. they have both indoor and outdoor dining but outdoor is closed at the moment. They have a A health rating. They have handicapped parking 5-20 feet away. they have a ramp for wheel chairs. no ev charging. closest ev charging station is cal poly pomona. Parking lot is small outlet mall with maybe 40 spots and definitely easy to get at night. Not sure about day time though. read more

My brother suggested that my family and I get Pho to warm up after a cold and sprinkled weekend we we visited on Sunday night and although the parking can be tight, we were able to find parking and I'm so glad we did. The ambiance of this restaurant is warm and inviting and bonus that it has an area for larger parties. There was 6 of us total and we were seated right away and there was no one extra charge for bringing a crowd. Our food was delicious. And as a vegetarian, I had plenty to choose from. I ended up ordering the vegetable pho and a mango smoothie. The broth was delicious and even my sons who love the filet mignon was impressed.
