We decided to pay the newly opened pho basil a visit after seeing that they just took over pho dynasty . We came in during dinner time and there were about 4 tables filled . They had a sign on the front door stating they are not serving stir fry's at the moment, which was all good because we really just wanted soup . Upon walking in , we were greeted and seated . Their menu was simple and straightforward , but they don't have a drink menu as of yet . We kept it simple and ordered their crispy taro salad,bun bo hue, and an iced coffee to share . Everyone who came after us received their orders before us , and after 30-35 minutes of waiting , our food finally came . I felt like their crispy taro salad had too much going on . It came with a side of fish sauce , but the salad was already mixed with dressing . There was really no base, it just had deep fried taro strips , bell peppers, mint , shrimp and fried onions . As for the bun Bo hue, it tasted like spicy water. Its typically a spicy lemongrass based soup, but I couldn't taste the lemongrass . Overall, I think they gave plenty to work on . This is problably the worest polk, shrimp, egg vermicelli had in years! The pork was not grilled looks like from 2 days ago n kind microwave it n bring it to served! Spring roll was fresh and delicious (ate almost all before getting a photo). I loved the peanut sauce as it was a good consistency for my tasting and not too thick or runny. I got the chicken banh mi. I bit into a lot of the chewy fat part of the chicken. The bread was huge but the meat inside was barely anything. The bread was overly toasted, started cutting the roof of my mouth. I wouldn't go back for that again, my friends beef and shrimp was good but felt they were on portion control or something. Just two shrimps on the dish and little beef that was fluffed up to look big. I can't rate this off of pho but just these alone. They give you a little too much noodles in my opinion and not enough broth but I'm likely the only who thinks the broth is supposed to be the best part. Taro salad was crispy and had great flavor with the fish sauce dressing but not enough shrimp. It's large enough to be shared by 2 people though. They also do good BBQ Pork Banh Mi though it's more expensive here than going to a Duc Huong but considering the gas you burn to drive to a Duc Huong, Pho Basil is a convenient go-to. read more

Wanted to get pho for dinner on a Sunday so I stopped by after looking for shops in the area. The shop was maybe half full, so I was seated right away. The waiter came back after 1 min and took my order, which was a large bowl of pho with flank, brisket, soft tendon, and tripe. After putting in the order, he came back out with my plate of greens (there was no Thai basil plant which I was a little sad about) and then my pho came out maybe 5 minutes later. During my meal, he also came over a couple of times to check on me as well as seemingly having a playful fight with the other waitress about her eating a sample that was meant for guests (lol). The bowl itself was pretty big. There was a lot of nice, rich broth and there were 1-2 pieces of each type of meat. The restaurant needs some updating, the furniture looks very worn. Since I ordered to-go, U can't comment too much on service. However, the person who handed me them my order was very nice and courteous. I wish I can give them more starts. I wasn't impressed with their menu. I always like to try bun Bo hue anytime I try new places because I feel like it'll give me a good idea on how well an establishment is to me lol. There's just something about a good spicy noodle soup because this dish can be hard to perfect. Especially the texture of the noodles. The texture of the noodles in this dish were overcooked. I would have preferred it to be cooked al dente. The egg rolls were pretty good though. They are fresh, crispy, and tasty. Once Pho Le on Bruceville Road in Elk Grove closed their doors a couple of years ago, I was a nomad in search of good Vietnamese food. I have tried countless places that were either not memorable or were out and out awful. I decided to try Pho Basil with absolutely no expectations and even less hope. A few things that have been removed from the Vietnamese restaurant scene are durian shakes, crispy taro salad and delicious vermicelli noodle dishes. I've missed these a lot in the last couple of years. Pho Basil not only offers all three of these things but they have an extensive menu all at a price that's incredibly affordable. The crispy taro salad is divine and even if I plan to have something else during my visit, I always order that salad to take home for dinner. It's epic to say the least with texture and taste and all of the delicious profile I absolutely love about Vietnamese food. Even if I don't get to the crispy taro salad and the crispy part becomes soft, I find the salad is just as delicious. There is tons of shrimp in it and every aspect in fact is generous with a salad. The durian shakes is my perfect dessert; sweet, creamy and very custard like. It's actually a shake I would buy every day if I could make it make sense. Very reasonably priced as well. The last couple of times I've had the beef vermicelli combo and it's absolutely delicious as well. I'm so glad I found this place and took a chance. The tofu vegetarian banh mi was absolutely delicious so flavorful and perfectly balanced! The tofu was crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and paired so well with the fresh, tangy pickled veggies and crusty bread. It was honestly one of the yummiest sandwiches I've had in a while. OPEN FOR LABOR DAY First time at this restaurant and I will say, very welcoming, very vibrant. The service was amazing, immediately seated and attended. We've lived in the area for 10 years. Went to this location when it was named Pho Dynasty. We decided to come try out the restaurant as it's "under new management". We weren't the biggest fan of the previous. Came in on a Sunday afternoon. We were greeted and sat immediately, and shortly after handed a menu. First impression was going well. They were pretty full. We were sat in their far left corner table against the windows under their TV. Their TV volume was super loud, as you can hear from the video clip I posted. I think it was played loud enough to act as their restaurant music for the entire room. I didn't notice music coming from anywhere else. It was so loud it was hard to conversate with my bf. It was to the point where I was getting irritated having to shout. I wanted to ask to be moved but looked around and the empty tables available all had dishes that no one had cleaned yet. Took about 5-7 mins before we ordered. Waiter didn't know to take our order by the names of the dishes, rather the number. He had to look at our menu to check dish numbers. Then he revised our order, however, he repeated the wrong numbers to us. We had to correct him. Food took almost 20 min for our BBH soup and the charbroiled pork w/ shrimp rice plate. The rice plate came out wrong, without the shrimp but we didn't realize at time of getting it. Took us 4 mins to get someone's attention, as the two waiters on the floor were cleaning one table together. Told him our dish didn't come with shrimp as stated on the menu. He goes back and brings out the 2 pieces of shrimp on the plate as a side. Just to point out as well, before getting our rice plate, the waiter brought us a dish for another table by accident. I actually seen this happen to a few tables as we waited. Everyone seemed to be understanding about it, as we did as well. The food was decent we would rate both 4.5/5, which we felt like made up for the loud music and the wrong order. Only complaint on the BBH was that the pork meat was a huge blob, but tender. There was only 3 workers on the floor. Some detail improvement needed, but they were friendly. By the time we left, there was 2 tables in our site that were never cleaned from the time we got in until the time we left. Food made up for service. Will probably order togo next time. read more

Tried this place since we were in the area and seen a new business sign. This business replaces Pho Dynasty. The interior was updated with the seating and looked nicer. It was a welcome new design for the interior. Many of the items remained the same. The prices were average for a pho restaurant. It was good to see the pickled jalapeños which were missing from the previous business. The food was ok and nothing special. Our party of 4 felt they gave out very small portions of meats. You can see for yourselves in the pictures. The soup flavor was decent for their beef broth. The bun Bo hue broth was also decent but nothing special to drive here for. This place will fulfill your craving but there are better places in the area for that. Service was good. Waiter refilled our water and checked in on us. But there was hardly anyone there. I ordered the spicy beef noodle soup, right as I opened the container I could tell it smelled a little " fishy" and I'm severely allergic to shrimp. So I called the restaurant to ask if their broth was made with any shrimp and Laila told me "no". Luckily I was not finished warming it up before she called me back and told me she spoke to the kitchen and they use shrimp in their chili oil that makes the soup spicy. Understandably upset I asked her why she did not verify before giving me the answer because I could have eaten it and had an anaphylactic reaction. Laila's response was "well did you ask when you ordered the soup if there was shrimp?". Nowhere in the description does it list that there was shellfish in a BEEF SOUP dish.
