I have recently become a phonatic. It is an amazing food. pho real. And this place serves it up in a rather phonomenal way. Okay, enough of that! I enjoy this place of all the pho places I have been too. I had never heard of pho before moving to this island and now it has become an addiction. Of all the broths, this is the best I have tried after 9 other places. There is something about the way they make it that makes this pho even more tasty than their places, even when you will already pour fish sauce and siracha into it anyways. By far the best pho I have ever tasted. They filled the bowl up. I ordered the large combination pho, and I could not even finish it. The staff was on it. They kept filling up my water, and at the same time very friendly. The XLARGE was HUGE!!! For only $11.99, you can't beat it, but I don't know if anyone can even eat that much. After a couple hours of Black Friday shopping at Waikele outlet, we were getting hungry and cold after the sun has set. So we thought, what better way to warm ourselves up with a bowl of pho! A couple clicks on the yelp iphone app, we were able to locate the Pho Bistro, which was only about 2 miles away! After locating it in a very humble plaza housing an adult video 'supermarket" store (LOL) 2 stores down, we were lucky enough to get in after what seemingly has been a dinner party of 20! Looking at the left overs on that table, it looked like everyone had a bowl of pho! So the easy choice for me to order would be, #12, the all-in-one goodness pho beef noodle. I was trying not to psych myself out too much because my all time fav pho place is the Vietnam Cafe Pho Saigon in Chinatown. After the steaming bowl of noodles arrived, I always like to taste what the broth is really like without adding anything to it first. First impression? Not bad, pretty homie and the flavour was cleaner and not too strong. The noodles were a little al-dente than I like it to be, the beef was ok, but could be cut a little thiner, the beef balls...um...they were tiny! Overall, it's not too shabby but didn't take the cake. I would give it 3 stars for the pho. What earned this place the extra 1 star (total 4 star) is the delicious homemade-tasting tapioca desert! I had the taro one and it was the right amount of sweetness with chucks of taro that taste like little cubes of awesomeness! and all for the price of $1.50? Damn..I should have bought 10 and eat them all in one night! This was my second visit here, YES the PHO is Delicious but this time the service was not that great. We never had our water filled. When my brother's girlfriend asked for plates because we had ordered some appetizers the waitress had told her that we didn't need plates because they are appetizers. I've eaten at other Pho places and they give plates for appetizers. She proceeded to ask how many plates do you need one? Seriously?! there were 4 of us. Let's start of and say that their food is good. But their service is TERRIBLE. We placed a phone order today at 6:10 pm. We have them a half hour because they are slow as hell. We figured that the extra time wouldn't be a bad thing. However when we got there at 6:30 THEY DIDNT EVEN PLACE OUR ORDER. We waited until 7pm before we got our food. I have ordered take-out over the phone from here before leaving from Wahiawa. The guy said that it'll take up to 15 minutes for them to make my order: 1 chicken pho 1 brisket pho 2 spring roll appetizers 1 grilled shrimp and pork w vermicelli For the price was cheap. Food was delicious but wasn't thrilled about 3 pieces of small shrimp in the shrimp combo. Still, it was still a great meal for a place I've never eaten at before. It took me about 25 minutes to get there. When I got there they had prepped the rest of my order fresh and sent me with a smile. Good experience and food altogether! Regular-size chicken pho: ono! The fried garlic garnish added aroma & a depth of flavor. The noodles had a good texture to them. Not too stiff nor too cooked. I challenged my coworker to eat the XL bowl. Man vs. Pho style. Pho won! But my coworker came close. Spring rolls were solid. No complaints. My family and I popped in for a last minute dinner last Friday. This is usually our go-to spot for pho and oxtail soup, because we prefer not to drive to town. I understand that weekends are busy, but service was really not to par. No one greeted us upon arrival. We also waited an extra amount of time for someone to bring our water and to take our order. My kids and I usually share the ox-tail soup which comes only in large. It is enough for us (5 y/o, 3 y/o and me), and we have leftovers. The broth is really tasty. My husband usually gets the steak and brisket pho. We felt spontaneous and got fried tofu. That is not something I recommend getting. LOL. Next time we'll stick to the Pho, Oxtail and spring rolls. I was a little bummed when I asked for thai tea and they only had the canned kind. I found out about this place when I used to work around the area. We used to order the soups, papaya salad and almost always, the iced coffee. Now, I take my husband and friends here when we crave Vietnamese food or just to have iced coffee. The house special soup was kind of bland today. The spring rolls were good. My family came here before leaving for Chicago. We had the spring rolls and chicken rolls they were excellent! We ordered the grilled chicken rice dish, the house special pho combo, the beef short ribs, the brisket pho, the oxtail soup, and garlic shrimp. We were all extremely happy with everything!!! So happy to live on this side of the island and be able to enjoy a delicious, heart-warming bowl of pho with just a short 4-minute drive from my house. It's a hole in the wall kinda place and the area is a bit sketchy at night, I think. Their beef broth is the best that I've tasted, and I've been to more than several Vietnamese restaurants (can someone say fatty?). The amount of meat they put in your soup is enough so that you don't think you're getting ripped off, and not so much that it ruins the taste if the broth. The broth is flavorful, vermicelli noodles are cooked perfectly, the veggies are nice and crunchy, the meats are tasty, and the portion is fulfilling. I've tried other pho places in the area, but find their pho to be very bland. I was happy to find this gem! The 5 star rating is for their service. I've been coming here for years and always left satisfied. The staff are always pleasant and considerate. The one person I do want to shine light on is Dino. Dino has always been our waiter and provided excellent service. Recently, I've been ordering take out because my kids prefer to eat at home. I carry my infant and my two little ones are next to me every time we pick up pho. I assure you that I'm not the kind of person who expects help (lol), but Dino has been offering to help carry my take out to my car. I've declined the offers and I told him not to worry because I didn't want to take him away from work (even if it's for a minute). He said it was okay and that he was happy to help. First and probably last time ー It felt very unsanitary. The table smelt as if they used a dirty rag without sanitizing it for every table. The spring rolls tasted old & smelt a little funky, not necessarily spoiled, but fried hours ahead and possibly left out in the open. The short ribs that I ordered were almost up to par, but it was drenched in oil. The parts of the short ribs that had slopes were filled with oil. I mean I could have just pressed my napkins on it which I did, but if a customer has to do those kinds of things then isn't there something wrong?... I'm giving this place two stars instead of one because of the fact our waiter was nice, he just forgot to give us water until we asked. I'm from San Francisco so I feel I have higher standards for pho. First thing I noticed was that the combo pho wasn't #1 on the menu which to me is a signature feature of authentic vietnamese pho restaurants. So when trying the hubby's pho cuz he was craving it so...I wasn't surprised. It's watered down compared to what you find in the bay area but I guess it's decent for people who have nothing to compare it to. If I was just judging on the pho this place would really only get 1 1/2 stars if I could, but I had the pork rice plate. I asked for extra veggies which the guy at the counter was so kind to provide and I made lettuce wraps with my meal. Sooo tasty. I cleaned off my whole plate and the extra veggies. So our verdict - we waited til we got home to have pho again but I think the rice plates are pretty solid. read more

I came here with a friend after hearing that Pho Bistro is THE place to go for pho in Waipahu. With that being said, I must have had high expectations for this place because I was not very impressed. It took a minute before someone realized we had sat ourselves to bring us over some menus. I wouldn't say the service is excellent here but they are friendly. It was more like they didn't know their products like the back of their hand. We like to get summer rolls and I always inquire with the server about peanuts. I asked if the crushed peanuts was already mixed in the sauce and she said "Yes, it's peanut sauce." I understand that it is peanut sauce. I was asking about the crushed peanuts. After discussing it further, she than said the crushed peanuts was added on top. Thank you! That's what I wanted to hear. No crushed peanuts, please. She then came back a few minutes later than asked, "Why, are you allergic to peanuts?" Uhhhh, yahhhhh. The summer rolls came first and there was a thick layer of oil on top of the peanut sauce. Yuck. On to the next.... We also ordered the lemongrass chicken with vermicelli. On the menu it lists everything that comes with it. Nowhere does it list crushed peanuts. And after the server had just found out about my nut allergy, why would you still serve someone a dish with crushed peanuts on top? Still boggles me. Probably won't order that again. Plus, the chicken was dry. On to the pho. Although I keep reading about how humongous the XL size is, the small seemed like a small portion compared to other pho restaurants. I must also add the meatballs are the smallest I ever had. I am used to pho meatballs that are cut in half. These meatballs were like cut in fourths or oddly shaped things. The broth was tasty but nothing special to me. Although I have never been here until recent, the only reasons I would probably return would be convenience since I live in Waipahu or with someone who enjoys going there. Like others have mentioned, the broth is mild. The flavor was good, but it was milder than I expected. I ordered when I got there, and less than five minutes later, I was walking out the door. I ordered a large pho with round eye and fatty brisket. I love that the brisket was appropriately fatty and the meat was plentiful. The accoutrements were also plentiful. However, the sauce container did not seem to contain the rooster hot sauce I love. There was a chili sauce which seemed to be mixed with the plum sauce, but no rooster hot sauce. The large really was a large. Everything was plentiful, and I was happy with what I got. My only complaint is that I wish I were given rooster hot sauce and I wish that the broth had a stronger flavor. I would definitely eat here again though. read more

Parking is a little tight if you come during busy hours. But the Phò here is one of the best I have ever had. Also the Winter Rolls are very very delicious. I have also had the grilled pork chops before and was very good. Very affordable prices for the meals. Wait time is not that long. Never had to wait longer then 15-20 minutes. read more

This was my first time @Pho Bistro, and let me tell you it was AMAZING!! We started off with summer rolls which tasted really fresh and the peanut sauce was excellent. To drink my wife had Thai iced tea, and I had Vietnamese iced coffee both tasted great (i think the thai tea was from a can though) Both myself and my wife had the #12 which is the combination bowl, I had the large and my wife had the regular. The broth was really good not too much cinnamon flavor like most places. Ample amount of meat and the noodles tasted fresh not like packaged noodles. All I can say is that the Pho reminded me of the Pho im used to back in SoCal. alright sized portions, not that great of a broth. Needs a cleaning; messy dining room and messier cashier area. Good enough to satisfy a pho craving if you're trapped in Waipahu. My advice: Throw in all the Sriracha sauce you can handle, cause if it's burning hot & spicy, chances are you really don't care about the broth.
