I try not to judge a book by its cover. The parking lot is not only small, but people park however they like. The restaurant in quaint, but not homey. We seated ourselves and the booth we chose was wet from broth. We promptly cleaned it up and decided whatever its fine. It took a while to flag someone down to order food. We fought flies.... which... to me is indicative of.... trash not tossed or filth somewhere. The floors are dirty from broth drippings. We got pho, egg rolls, and nem-rolls. Well. The water tasted filtered. The pho broth was a bit mediocre... I have had better. The ribs were tasty and meaty. The eggrolls were very greasy and in the inside under cooked. However, sure, was okay to eat. The nem-roll was...disgraceful. The rice paper looked substandard, the lettuce was questionable and tasted very fishy.... the pork tasted old. Not good eats in my opinion. I feel there is better out there. Would I try it again? Maybe. I would get the pho to try once more. Am I rushing to go back....no. read more

I like to try Hole-in-the-wall Pho restaurants whenever I can and this one definitely did not disappoint. The Pho here is top notch. This is a really good Vietnamese restaurant that is in a really sketchy town. The restaurant has that authentic Vietnamese restaurant feel when you walk in. The food is really good and the price is right. It's cheaper than most other Vietnamese places and if you order the pho, the XL is really big. It's worth your money to get the XL. I ordered bun (vermicelli) and it wasn't bad at all. The only thing I didn't like about the bun is that the egg rolls aren't the traditional deep fried version and it seems to be a basic egg row. Not sure what the hype is for this location. Took my step mom and step daughter who just got imported from Vietnam a few months ago. People will also parallel park along the brick walls so be aware of reversing your vehicle out. Very small restaurant but pretty busy. They don't have AC so it's also very uncomfortable to eat pho as you'll be sweating and they just leave their front doors open so be aware of flies. Their service was typical of an authentic vietnamese restaurant. They were playing soccer on the television so a lot of the staff was just standing there in between customers watching tv. My stepmom tried to flag someone down since we were ready to order and they were rude. After taking another table's order, the waitress came by to take ours but was also talking shit about the table saying how they didn't know how to order and that if they weren't ready then don't order. This was all in vietnamese as I do understand/speak it. I ordered number 17 which is their pho tai chin (rare beef steak with brisket). I always ask for my steak on the side since I don't like my meat overcooked. Food came out within 3 minutes of us placing our order. Their tai steak was frozen and the portion was small. The brisket was dry and overcooked in my broth so I didn't touch much of it. Broth lacked a bit of flavor but at least my noodles were cooked al dente. Don't think i'd return to this location. Their table was also dirty. It was oily and had dried residue of fat on the table so it wasn't even cleaned properly. Since me and my boyfriend recently moved back to the SGV area this has been our go to restaurant for Pho. I usually get the pho bac or bun bo hue & the mister would get their pho bo vien or pho tai. We dined in once during Covid and the staff were really nice. They spoke English, Viet, Chinese and Spanish. -1 star because while we were eating these men's were smoking right near us and the workers made no effort to ask them to not smoke near customers who are eating. I got mines with shredded chicken instead of the chopped pieces (didn't feel the need to get my hands dirty). The shredded chicken was a good amount and pretty tasty. Instead of the thick fresh noodles, I stayed with the regular pho noodles. Generous portion and the broth tasted savory, clear looking and not too salty nor too sweet. This place used to be one of my favorite place to get pho. Not too long ago, I used to recommend this place to some of my friends and a few Yelpers who asked me for suggestions. After what I just experienced recently here, I can see why none of them have ever thanked me. I think it was because my own friends don't want to give me the bad news as I think they don't want to be seen as ungrateful. Weirdly, one of the Yelp pals told me the service was quite rude. No details were expounded upon, but I kept that in mind. Just recently, I popped in to get a bowl of pho as I was craving for some of their sweet, but a hit of sour broth. Their soup was one of my favorite and I'm pretty certain it was going to win people over. Now granted, I haven't gone here as often I used to as change of work affected my routine. In years I have been away, I noticed they have another branch of their Pho Filet in SG. I decided to order the usual #15 with shredded pork roll. Not more than 2 minutes later, a different guy came up to my table and pretty much want me to get a different item. His rationale was that it was a terrible choice and "it wasn't good". He told me I should get the shrimp or the chicken one. Pretty much belittled my choice as in "you are not going to like it" with a few "trust me, it's not that good. Get this instead...". Yeah, I was pretty put off by it. Decided to get the pho without anything else. This decision stunned him quite a bit. He was taken aback by this. Now, here's the fun part. Apparently, I bruised his ego. The gentleman was not my original server. It was another lady, he just stepped in to tell me my choice wasn't good and I should ordered something else. Maybe they ran out of shredded pork to make that roll or they really don't want to make it. Who knows? It was not fun to get discredited for no reason. Could he have simply handled it better by saying it ran out and suggested another choice with some class, instead of this rude behavior? Not sure on why he took the tact in dissing the choice even if the item was not good. I have never heard of anyone telling people not to order something. The fun part is this.... he decided to restore his ego and make himself feel good by telling his fellow co-workers is because I'm not Vietnamese. I kid you not! He went up to my table again after I refused to take his suggestion, he became "nicer" in a more calmer tone by asking if I was Japanese, Korean, or Chinese? Does ethnicity have anything to do with anyone substituting an item? What? Is he telling us that all Vietnamese would gladly take his demeanor and be okay with it? I seriously doubt that. Let's be honest, I was already put off by his demeanor towards the substitution of a simple roll. Now, I'm just angry by his new assertion. No, it's not because people are not Vietnamese that don't want to substitute the roll, it's the mean put off attitude. Needless to say, I finish my bowl of pho and got out of there quick. When you put in the word "rude" in the search bar of this listing, you'll get a lot of results popping up. Regardless if it was cheap or communication barriers that might have exist, there's no call for this type of behavior. The woman who took my order was somewhat embarrassed by what went on as she tried her best to suggest some other rolls, but knew that I wasn't going to order it because of what have transpired. There were no miscommunications. That gentleman himself knew I didn't take his behavior very well. It's too bad it have to come to this. The food was good, but at the time I couldn't see why not one of my friends agreed with me in the past about my suggestion. Little did I know, it came to this. Ps. Wow I cant believe it's been so long since I've done a review...so here goes. This place is amazing. That's all folks. That's my whole review. Kidding. This place is beyond amazing. Someone recommended this place for the best beefy pho ever. Holy cow they were right. For under $9 You get a huge bowl of noodles, and a literal ton of meat. I'm usually able to finish a large bowl at most places but not here. They give you so much... even if it doesn't look like a lot... It's so much. I've tried the #14-16 and #72. I think I've tried their vermicelli once but wasn't impressed. STICK TO THE NOODLE SOUPS. The pho with filet mignon is ok. I love the thick noodles but I dont like that the fillet mignon is pretty much shredded. It's hard to dip into hoisin sauce... I prefer the #16. Tripe and fatty brisket is absolutely to die for. Theres this one guy who always serves us, The cheerful, tallish guy with slicked back hair. My solution to my conundrum... thick noodles in #14 but good meat in #16... so I asked for a #16 with thick noodles and they were ok with it! Amazing. The only complaint I have is that their soup is a little more clove-ey than most but you get used to it. Can't wait to try their avocado smoothie. Durian smoothie isn't as creamy as it might be at other places... It's a pretty solid smoothie though with icey, crunchy bits. read more

The broth is usually bland and lukewarm when we first get our order (eeek!), so from this I'm assuming the food isn't really fresh. I have also gotten the rice dishes here. They pack a lot of food here, so quantity-wise, it's great! Quite filling. Let's talk about the service. Now, like a lot of us nowadays, I rarely carry cash. Pho Filet only accepts cash. I went inside to get takeout for my family for the first time and I was ready to order. As soon as I spoke to the server, she yelled "cash only, cash only". Like, ok, I appreciate her transparency, but wow, she didn't have to yell for the whole restaurant to stop and stare at us. It was so embarrassing. They pointed at the direction of the sketchy ATM machine outside. I left and haven't returned since. Still, I my family gets takeout here from time to time. I plan to order this again, although it's a tough decision since I would also like to try the other things on the menu! The Bun Rieu (#95) was good but not as impressive as the Bun Dac Biet (#69). Everything was good but the ground shrimp ball tasted more like pork than shrimp. The broth wasn't tomato flavored but more of shrimp flavored or seafood flavored.
