I used to order Pho ga from this place because it was pretty decent. Small mom and pop place. This time I came by with a couple friends and just wanted to drink a plum soda or soda ximuoi. The server or owner denied me my order not because he didn't have it but because he didn't want to give it to me. Instead he limited my options to just water or tea. Not even the canned soda in the fridge. He also criticized my order for just an appetizer. I'm sorry I wasn't hungry. And then when we paid out he had the audacity to ask for tip. I noticed that when I was paying, the prices did not reflect the prices listed on the menu so when I asked about the discrepancy, I was told they did not have a chance to update their menu. So just fyi the prices on menu are incorrect. Not a big deal but I like to know before I order. This place is a literal hole in the wall. The food is good and comes out quickly, but the restaurant itself is very old and not updated. They still use Styrofoam boxes for to go orders. In fact, my food was hot and melted through the Styrofoam and leaked onto my pants while I was eating. Not ideal since the food involved fish sauce. I ordered banh cuon, it was delicious but hot and burned the the styrofoam. Be prepared to pay cash or an extra 4% fee with credit card transactions. I was craving chicken pho since it was a chilly morning so I stopped by for early lunch. The restaurant is pretty small. They also had a large family dining when we arrived so most of the tables in the restaurant were used for that family. The staff quickly cleaned a small side table for us but unfortunately it was right by the door so every time the door opened, chilly wind would blow in. Service: The staff working were pretty friendly and accommodating. For some odd reason, they said they were out of stock for many menu items. We ordered half a chicken, a plain noodle, and some steamed rolls. Food took a LONG time to come out. It was also pretty strange that our noodles came out last. We were halfway done with the chicken before the noodles came out. Food: I really enjoyed the noodles and the chicken. The broth from the noodles was very rich in flavor. But I think the highlight was the chicken. The chicken was so tender! It was a little on the bland side but nothing a little sauce can't fix. Overall not a bad first time dining here. This place is a low-key mom and pop shop in El Monte, located in the same plaza as Action Lanes. It's run by middle age-elderly folks who speak Vietnamese, Cantonese, and Mandarin! This place is a small place, and folks who come here usually are in parties of 1-4 or order takeout. It's pretty busy during lunch hours on weekdays but there are tables because people go on and out! Usually there are tables on weekend evenings as well. They don't have an extensive menu, so people really come here for mainly variations of chicken pho/ pho ga or rice dishes. Food comes out quick, and everyone's slurping their noodles down. I appreciate that they serve clean chicken broth with the authentic ginger fish sauce which is what should be served with Pho Ga. All that being said, service can be a miss because they don't really check in on you, so Ive had to walk up to the counter. You don't come here for the service though. Most disappointing was the poultry; it certainly didn't seem to be the traditional yellow feather chicken they were known for. We were seated fast and beat the rush because the tables filled up fast a while later. We ordered the shrimp and crab paste soup w/ vermicili (11.50) and my friend got the beef tripe, tendon soup pho (11.99). We ordered the small bowl size. The food was ready in about 5 minutes which was fast. The shrimp and crab paste soup was pretty good but the noodle portion was a bit small even for a small size. The soup was nicely seasoned though and the meatballs were good too. My friend said the beef pho was pretty good too. It looked like it had a good portion of meat and noodles too. Overall, I think this is a decent pho place to eat out but there are better ones. The food is not bad and good parking. However, note that they do charge a credit card fee. Came for the first time for dinner last night. At first I was apprehensive about it due to it being a hole in the wall in a rundown center with very few customers. But then I read some more Yelp reviews and gave it a shot. I'm glad I did. I went in and grabbed a menu off the counter before taking a seat. I asked for the small size and also a glass of water with no ice. After a while, the food came. Everything looked fine except I noted a lemon slice in place of the usual lime. I grabbed a tray for some sriracha and hoisin sauce, dropped in the veggies, and dug in. Overall the broth is not bad, but I was really surprised by the serving size. This small size was more than enough food with lots of noodles and plenty of meat. Maybe it's missing some of the usual veggies and herbs, but it made up for it with the size. A couple of years ago, I tried Pho LTK for the first time, and it was a solid 3.5 stars then.... ... and I'm happy to share that they have not only improved their overall game, but that they go above and beyond to make their customers happy. I have successfully converted all three of my kids into Super-Phans of Pho, and what kid doesn't like fried "spring rolls"? I always order the Goi Cuon here, which are huge, delicious, fresh, and served with LTK's unique peanut sauce... a little darker than other places-- maybe a touch more hoisin? The kids and the Mrs. always get the Tai Chin, and I'm a Dac Biet guy with all the trimmings, tripe, tendons... all the nam gan sach bo vien stuff :) Ordering through Yelp/Grubhub is convenient, and since we're so close, it's like a $0.49 delivery fee (along with all the other fees and tips, but totally worth it that I don't have to put my shoes back on and drive somewhere once I'm home in front of a fireplace on a cool evening. Once or twice we did drop in for take out, and the owners are sweet to my kids, and generous to put extra sauces and condiments into little containers for our Picante-preferences. Good people.
