It's the best pho I've had in America by a significant margin, and I've never been to Vietnam, so it's the best pho I've ever had. The broth is sublime. Rich and light brown, with aromatic flavors. It has a special taste that I haven't found anywhere else. They're known for beef filet pho, which is delicious, but I think the pho ga (chicken pho) is their best option. Get the chopped chicken, not shredded. The skin and bones add flavor. Their pork chop combo plates and chicken curry are also good. The durian smoothie and pennyworth juice... also recommended. The Vietnamese coffee tastes like Vietnamese coffee, and it's cheap. Some might say Golden Deli is the best in the area, and it's very good. But this place is noticeably better. You know what's funny? Is that I thought it tasted better to-go than it did there. My mother has been going on about this place for a while now saying she likes it because the broth has a depth of flavor without being too salty. While I'm not the biggest pho fan to begin with, I thought it was pretty darn good. The meat was soft and had the soft tinge of pink from raw thinly sliced beef being plunged into boiling hot broth. If you are in the search for good pho in the city of El Monte, the choices are many. One, therefore, would be hardpressed to get a consensus on which place is the best of the bunch. I had bookmarked to try Pho Filet because they have an option to serve pho with filet mignon and this tiny restaurant has generally received very good reviews from respected Yelpers and food bloggers alike. I ordered a small bowl of their Pho Dac Biet and Bo Vien (Combination Pho with Beef Meat Balls), $6.50. It was a fair price for a really tasty, hearty bowl of pho for this location. The broth was clean and well balanced. The meats were of good quality, rich and tender, oozing with its own distinct flavors and textures. There were a generous amount of all the meats listed in the menu, including rare filet steak, well done flank, beef brisket, tendon, tripe and meatballs. The noodles were firm and not limp. The soup was topped with the traditional garnishes: cilantro, green onions and julienned white onions. These are all, in my opinion, qualities for great pho. The herbs ngo gai (sawtooth herb) and hung que (Thai basil), along with jalapeno peppers, bean sprouts and limes, were fresh and plentiful. The Coconut Water, $2.99, was a nice refreshment. The flavor was crisp, subtely sweetened and had no funky odor. The taste and quality of their pho met my expectations. I would certainly dine here again if I am in the area. Recommended. This unassuming-looking hole-in-the-wall place screams authenticity for Vietnamese cuisine. Its small parking lot is shared and feels a tad snug, so street parking is encouraged. This spot makes my absolute favorite pho. They have a filet mignon pho that comes with thick noodles, ginger, onion and cilantro. I like mine with thin noodles, so I always get it switched out. For TOGO orders, you can ask them to give you uncooked noodles so it's not soggy and sticky when you get home. I cook the noodles for 3 min and it's perfect. They give you the same condiments as dining in. I also recommend their drinks. I love the 3 color dessert, which comes with different kinds of beans, jelly, coconut milk, and shaved ice. Being sick I was on the quest for BBH. I called two places in San Gabriel valley and both were closed bc they sold out all their soups! Surprised how early the Pho locations close down around here also bc it was just after 7:00 pm only on a Saturday. Pho Filet was open although the parking lot was completely full and I had to park on the street. Once inside the restaurant was completely full and had to wait a few minutes. I went with the combo bowl with meatballs. The soup literally arrived within minutes of placing my order and was hot, filled with various meats and was yummy. I also ordered the nem nuong rolls but they were just average and the waiter gave me the wrong sauce for dipping! The one thing here that stood out was the service which was solid and the place looks like it was family owned and operated. Located in the city of El Monte in the San Gabriel Valley this spot is pretty popular amongst the locals and people from other areas. The parking lot can get a little crazy but it is worth it for this bowl of pho. I think they seriously know what they are doing and even though I sometimes never can finish a small bowl of pho, I always can when I'm at Pho Filet. That is saying something! Service is super friendly and fast. They are busy but they are also doing a great job in getting people seated and getting the food out quickly. It's a small store so you might have to wait a little if you do come here. I'd suggest coming here if you are wanting to try what pho really taste like. Some places to me actually have no flavour as a broth but this one does pack a good one. SGV always has the best places and I would totally recommend coming here if you haven't been. Damn, the line for this place can get crazy! Despite that, the wait time is thankfully not long and the servers try to speed things up as quickly as possible. I tried the pho broth for both beef and chicken and both were very good. I actually liked the bun dish I ended up ordering-- with grilled pork, egg roll and shrimp paste. The pork was soft and sweet, with appropriate fatty bits, the egg roll was over fried but had a nice filling, and the shrimp paste was very good with a hard sugar cane stick. The fish sauce wasn't too strong and there are not as many veggies as other places but they do give you a lot of the good stuff for $7. I found myself extremely thirsty afterwards, and it was quite difficult to get their attention when it came time to pay. I came here the other day and I picked up some food. They weren't very friendly. The food was not bad. The issue I'm having is that I might have left my cc. When trying to ask the lady that answers the phone she doesn't speak English. I asked if anyone else spoke English and she said she speaks a little...which she can speak but she doesn't understand. She hung up on me. So I guess I'm cancelling my card and getting another one. Such an inconvenience. I always find out about the best authentic Vietnamese restaurants from my friends and family. Every time I come here, I try to order different dishes because I find that you can't go wrong with PHO Filet's dishes since they are all Plentiful, Hot, and On point! It can be easy to miss this place when you are cruising down Garvey especially if it's your first time, but if you pay attention the to side streets, the restaurant is located on the intersection of Garvey and Lashbrook. Be careful when turning into the lot, parking lot is small and they try to fit in extra parking spots that make it impossible for parkers to back out off the lot without hitting other cars. Make sure you bring CA$H, only form of payment accepted here. The worst thing is when I went to the other location and attempted to pay with card. That didn't turn out so good... Asides from their PHO, which we all rave about, I'm going to focus on their other Vietnamese dishes: Bun Dac Biet and Com Tam Mei Cha Suong. Bun Dac Biet translates to Vermicelli Special, which includes pork, egg rolls, and minced shrimp. What makes this dish so special is that the meat/seafood are hot and tender, drizzled on top with scallion drenched in oil and more scallion drenched in oil. What makes it more amazing is that they offer you more scallion whenever you'd like, so if you cannot get enough of scallions, just ask for more! The second dish, Com Tam Mei Cha Suong, translates to Broken Rice topped with strips of pork and fat, steamed egg and steak also drizzled with scallion and pickled vegetables on the side. These additions to the dish add so much more depth and flavor that it becomes one of my favorite dishes. Their steamed egg is whipped with flavorful ingredients while their steak is juicy and tender. I expect to be trying out their Bun Bo hue next. Let's hope that it's also PHOlicious! read more

Volume and pitch of conversations around other tables are grossly similar to Asian wet markets. 3. Food. The pho is indeed refreshing. Filet Mignon - tenderized - is, well, tender, lol. Broth is still gingery and bright on the flavor profile. Totally something I would have more of in this weather. The pork chop dish is a hit or miss. I was convinced by the reviews on Yelp! and I tried this place. There were no patrons waiting when I arrived. I ordered a beef steak pho #25 and after receiving my order, I had to wait over 15 minutes for the transaction to be processed. I left and I found a place to park my car on my way home...I opened the bag of food and I noticed that my beef was not cooked, it was raw and inside a plastic bag. I contacted yhe restaurant and they asked me to bring it back and they would cook it. I don't know about you but during these times we are living...why would they take it back and cook it. This is my top pho location. I would always go here the morning after a night out. This location can get pretty busy during the weekend but their broth is so worth waiting for. They give pretty big portion sizes too. I normally get the number #15 small with eggrolls. Their soup doesn't taste overpowered by msg like many other places, which is why I always come back. And their eggrolls are super fresh every time I go. The staff are always super friendly and gets everything we ask for on the first time. Sometimes they would ask if we would share a table with other customers to save the wait. This place gives off a super family oriented environment. Would totally come back to try more of their other dishes! I've tried the other location called Pho Filet 2 located in San Gabriel, but their portion sizes are like half the size. This is the best value pho place around the El Monte area. The soup is solid but not the best in the area (would give that to Pho Huynh down the street). What you expect here Is huge quantities of meat whenever you order pho (like a 60:40 meat to pho ratio). Prices are competitive too where you can get an extra large bowl for $8.50 or less. The problem is the restaurant is located in a tiny strip mall with limited parking, so you have to find parking on the street or get lucky when someone comes out. Expect the typical fast paced Asian dining experience where it's cash only and service is fast but you have to order them to come over. I usually order the pho dac biet bo vein (the largest pho order that comes with rare steak, tripe, beef balls, and more and more beef). Really can't find a better value than this as they pile on the beef. The cuts of meat are decent as well, lean but still has some fat for flavor. Make sure you ask for the fresh thick noodles for that authentic Vietnamese experience. One of my favorite pho places in the SGV. Try to come here before 1130 or after 1230.
