It seems like we have more Asian food choices in Irvine than just about anywhere outside of Asia itself yet we keep coming back to Pho Ha Noi at Trabuco and Jeffrey. My wife and sons favorites are the vegetarian spring rolls and the rare beef pho; After trying and enjoying a dozen items over the years, I've settled happily into beef over vermicelli (#46 I think); and my daughter recently discovered their Pad Thai which she loved! I just went here for dinner and the guy server that was taking my order was nice at first but when I order pho dac biet he apparently mistaken it as Pho thai just the rare steak. When it was brought out to me it was different so I kindly asked the Lady in vietnamese that this is not what I ordered. So she brought it back to the kitchen and told the guy it was not right, in vietnamese I could hear him yelling saying that I made a mistake, I ordered wrong. How is it my fault that you didn't repeat what I ordered and I said it clearly I wanted that combination soup. So when the lady came by to my table and she told me it's not number 14. I definitely feel I've eaten a fair share of pho and Vietnamese food in general to assess the quality of this place. This place is the closest Vietnamese place to me, and I've come here to grab a bowl of pho when I was a little pressed on time. On both occasions, I've ordered pho. In taking a sip of the broth and nothing else, it's disappointing. The broth is watered down, the aromatics aren't fragrant on the nose, and there isn't meatiness in the taste of the soup at all. There's an adequate amount of meat and the vegetables and herbs are enough to add into the soup. I wonder if I should be ordering something else from their menu instead. Pho itself is okay but the service is the WORST. Today i went to this place and ordered pho and egg rolls. While i am eating pho, i found a wrapped plastic bag piece in my dish. i kept chewing but i realized that its not something that i could eat. So i spitted out and it was small plastic bag. i stopped eating and i was worried about my daughter's one so I told her to stop eat it. The server told me it was kind of noodle. I didn't expect to find a place like this in Irvine! Prices are reasonable, with large portions, and the food is tasty. The menu is pretty extensive. They have pho, rice bowls, vermicelli, desserts, even banh mi! And for vegetarians out there, they have no meat / tofu options. T and I each got lemongrass vermicelli bowls. Mine with tofu and his with pork and beef(I think). I did expect the vermicelli to be hot but it was actually cold. No biggie though. The bowls come with plenty of veggies as well. The bowls are pretty big! I took home half as leftovers. Their banh mi are also larger and more generous than most I've had and half the price of others in the Tustin / Irvine area. Hubby had a rice dish that he enjoyed as well. The ambiance could use some work - dim fluorescent lighting isn't the best. We did not notice any issues with the cleanliness of our food. Service could be much better. Place was packed for dinner and we barely saw anyone. No one checked on us and they also forgot to give us our Thai iced tea. The iced tea, when we finally got it, was overly sweet and not very enjoyable. You have to line up at the cashier to pay. Usually you can get seated right away and there are plenty of seating available. I was part of a large group who ordered a few of the following items: -#26 Pho Dac Biet: 4/5 When the restaurant name has pho in it, you probably should order one of the many pho dishes. Pho Dac Biet includes a little bit of the main meats and beef balls. The broth was good and it was a standard size for the small. -#39 Bun Bo Nuong: 2/5 The dish was okay and probably would have tasted better if it was with pork instead. The fish sauce on the side was a little too overpowering. -#60 Tam Cam Thit Nuong: 3/5 There were more veggies than meats on the plate. Felt like more thit nuong could have been provided since it had a nice flavor. -#82 Mi Xao Thap Cam: 3.5/5 The presentation of this dish was nice since all of the veggies and meats were laid perfectly on top of the mi xao. The noodles were crunchy but the meats and veggies were a bit too soggy and salty. -#10 Tra Thai Tran Chua: 2/5 This is pretty much your average Thai Iced Tea with tapioca. It tasted as if it came from some instant Thai tea powder mix. It seems other reviewers are willing to overlook the absence of service at this restaurant, and suggest considering it more like takeout although a dining area is available. As good as the food is (great noodle soups!), the brusk and neglectful attitude of staff is a big put-off. While I am no pho connoisseur by any stretch of the imagination (I am the Vietnamese kid who didn't have her first bowl until college) I know this place is not great but it's not bad, and it's decent enough to satisfy a rainy day craving or help fight a cold without having to drive all the way to Westminster. Bonus that it is located in probably the only non-crazy strip mall parking lot in Irvine. I would stick to pho or bun (noodles) and the spring rolls are usually pretty good. Venturing too far outside of that like the bun bo hue or lemongrass chicken yields questionable results. I've never had a problem with service--they aren't super friendly but not mean either, but my one request would be can you please turn on the lights higher. Been coming to this restaurant for years now, a bit of a staple in my family. The food here comes out so fast it's crazy. The pho here has very tasty broth, but the noodles come packed together and you have to stir them a lot before it's nice to eat. My favorite dish is the filet minon with special rice. 100% recommended!! The rice is soo flavorful and the meat is pretty good for the price. The only main shortcoming of this place is definitely the service. Don't come here expecting friendly staff. Some of the waiters are super impatient and straight up weird. I actually would've given this place a 2.5 if the option were available on Yelp, but since it's not I gave it a 3. Went here around lunch time and it wasn't packed at all. Got broken rice with charbroiled pork, and asked for a side of sunny side up egg ($1 extra). To start off, my utensil had something dirty on it so I'm not sure how careful they are with cleaning. When I got my food, the waiter forgot to bring my side of egg until my boyfriend asked him for it. The food was decent but the portion was smaller for the price it cost. After some time, I noticed one customer was calling for anyone to come up and ring up his order so he could pay. He kept calling but it took a while for any worker to come to him. If there were a lot of customers, I'd understand that they were busy but there were only 2 groups of customers there. I also asked for a box to-go and I still had to repeat myself again. Not sure what was happening in the back but it seemed like there were more than enough workers to tend to my needs or the other customer's, and yet it still took them a while. So overall, I would say the food is decent but the customer service could be greatly improved. Come early like before 5:30 pm if you want to avoid a wait. This place gets really crowded and but I wonder why. Yes the staff is very quick and will attend to you. But they are short staffed and these poor servers are running around with their heads chopped off. I will at least acknowledge that they do try with their service. But what I have the most problems with is their food. The pho broth just tasted diluted and water down. The soup was not hot and the noodles was over cooked. Also what's worst is that they barely give you any meat. Like 4-5 slices... The beef stew noodle soup was even worst. The soup just taste like salted water. They served in a smaller bowl too with barely any meat or noodles. No beef broth flavor and I started to question what I ordered. I also want to mention that the place feels dirty. The furniture and the floor were sticky from oil. And the bathroom was so gross. Toilet seat was dirty and the floor around the toilet was wet. This place is probably the only Vietnamese spot I would eat in Irvine. I tried a couple places and yes, their service is good, but coming from the Bay Area and going to Westminister and such on the weekend, the price here is the closest. I always get their Hanoi Rice plate special which is all the toppings for rice plate plus two choices of meat. The pho here is decent for the price it is set for. I never had an issue with service here. I learned that if I go out, speaking Vietnamese benefits me. It kills the language barrier on having any mistakes happening on my order. They're usually very kind to me when going with friends and such. I love the soda chanh which is the lemon soda, helps when I'm sick. Neighborhood pho place with zero wait to sit and the food comes out at the speed of light! If I had to rank by taste alone coming from the 626 I wouldn't say this place tops the list. However, you really can't beat the zero wait time and food speed. Your craving will be satisfied all in all. Pretty good sized location with easy parking next to a Starbucks. I can't attest to a lot of other dishes we always order egg rolls and pho tai but those items were pretty good. First the spring rolls, we ordered the beef ones and the shrimp ones. The rice paper was gummy, totally gummy, taste was ok on the shrimp, the beef ones stunk, bad, like bad meat. The plates they brought out to use, were sticky. Not the plates with the rolls, the plates for us to put our food. I order the number 25 bowl, no tripe, no tendon. My bowl, almost all tripe, seriously, as much tripe as the noodles. My wifes came out and she got a plate, #82 that looked way too saucy. When I told him that I didn't want tripe that was why I ordered number 25 he said he would bring me number 24. When I asked for 25, because it didn't have tripe he got really irritated so I just asked him to please take it back and not bring another that my wife and I would share hers he got visibly angry and insisted that we order something else. At this point everytime he walked by he said out loud, please leave. A younger server came out and aplogized for his attitude and was very nice. Onto my wife's plate. You can see the picture, shrimp had the nerve/poop still, and everything was one flavor. I don't really know what that flavor was but it wasn't shrimp, wasn't beef, wasn't chicken ,wasn't broccoli, wasn't bok choy, wasn't noodles, wasn't anything I could recognize but it was all the same, what it was, was disgusting. So we politely asked for our bill, and they brought it out and had charged us for what we sent back. The young man was very nice and took it back, when he brought it back they reduced it $7 not the $7.45 the dish returned was. Screw this, we are out of here. I talked to the owner about the rude waiter, he could care less. We walked out, my stomach started rumbling and up came everything, got home and my wife got sick. I had the pho tai gan (rare steak and tendon) and a Singha. Felt like noodles to help kick my cold; and was told a long time ago by a cute girl to try tendon soup to help my tendons (have grown to like them). I think it worked... Maybe. My immediate impression was not great, as the soup showed up with a lump of noodles at the bottom. However, after I straightened them out, I was impressed by the broth, which they claim is a Hanoi style soup cooked for hours (by the grandmother in the back room?? They didn't say that, I just added...) Ordered a large and wasn't able to finish it. The decor is nice and the wait staff was efficient. Parking was ample and there wasn't any wait for my food. As I was in a hurry to pick up the food, I only realized after I got home that Pho Ha Noi just added 15% tips automatically on the total bill, so they charged me $38 in total. It is very difficult to find good pho these days. There's no shortage of pho locations, but even the top place tend to slip. If you want a pretty good pho place without the crazy wait, Pho Ha Noi is for you. Especially you live near by, the other Irvine pho places are not the worth the drive and wait. It's nice to get the same friendly service every time that I go. I'm guessing that it's family owned and nothing taste better than family made pho. It's easy to love a place when you can build a repore with the staff. The food here is very basic- nothing fancy, but I like that. They do use MSG, but it doesn't seem to over power the taste of the food. I like the pork chops and rare steak pho. It won't win any awards, but if I'm hungry and don't feel like waiting this place isn't busy most of the time. I've gone here during busier dinner times, but I usually get my food quickly. You won't see the normal Vietnamese people talking loudly to each other because they don't want to work. You have to go else where if you want to experience that. On a rainy day, what more can you ask for than eating pho!!!! However, unfortunately, perhaps the rainy day gives everyone the same thought of eating pho. Gladly, my co-worker who was Viet asked kindly for menus. They just threw menus at our table and left. After knowing what to order, we had to call the waiter over a few times to put our order in. After about 40 minutes and pressed for time, we received our Pho. My co-worker kindly asked for the sprouts, mint, and lime. My co-worker and myself are not types to complain and our thoughts about the Pho were very mediocre. If you truly want great Pho, the city of Westminster/Garden Grove area is the place to eat Pho. Several neighboring customers asked for their checks before we did. We got ours before them after 5 minutes upon asking for it. I really downgraded the rating per service received and observed on others by the staff here. Unfortunately, they appear to be over-worked or no longer enjoy working there. The food was great! I ordered it over the phone to go though which proved to be very difficult. It took me a solid 5 minutes just to get my order and name in. Once I got there, it turned out they accidentally gave my order to somebody else, so I had to wait around for a few minutes while they re-made everything. Whenever I get the chance to eat Bun Bo Hue in Irvine, I simply can't resist. It's served in a small bowl and you can totally tell this is more of a service menu item. What I mean is that it's not one of their popular dish so they try and sub with what's available. Example; all of the meat cut were for Pho. No ham hock, Cha lua or blood cake however the broth was flavorful and the meats were tender. I just treated it like pho fusion Bun Bo Hue. Prices are surprisingly low for Irvine. After we ordered the basic ribeye pho, we asked for spoons, and our waiter told us that we had one already (even though it looked kind of dirty/suspicious), and he only gave us one. We just sucked it up, but really, how hard is it to bring another spoon if the customer asks for it? The food itself was actually pretty decent, 3 stars at least. I haven't really tried pho at many different places, but I thought we got a good sized portion for about $6 and it tasted good. It was perfect for a cold night. We sat and talked for awhile afterwards, so by the time we left, the restaurant had almost cleared out and it was much less chaotic. The guy who took our order got my order wrong and attempted to lie about the size of my bowl even though it was literally the same size as the other bowl on the table... I kept pressing him about it until he finally caved in and then I said forget it I'm done... then he attempted to offer me the right size and I said no. Reasonable soft drink and beer prices. Fresh spring rolls good-sized and well put together at $4.25 for a pair. But the help was drab and mostly indifferent - nobody seemed happy to be there.
