One of the best Vietnamese restaurants in Irvine, for food! Creative dishes with abundant flavors and menu selection. Four stars for less than polite and friendly service. Perhaps it is a cultural difference, but I personally would like to embraced in the sweet and friendly environment when eating. I was a loyal customer at this location for years. This review is for the service. The food is decent...nothing out of the ordinary but it really is decent. I came with my family and ordered pho with no onions (this is always a prelude disaster in Vietnamese restaurants). The rest of my family got their food while I'm waiting for my pho. I explained to my wife that they're fishing out the onions they put in my bowl, that's why it's taking longer. I got my bowl which is warm, not hot since the spent a good five minutes fishing out the onions and they somehow forgot the tripe. I stirred my pho around and yes, there are pieces of onions they missed. I requested a new bowl and they brought it out in about 40 seconds but it was dark and murky and just didn't taste good. I think they retaliated for complaining about the onions in my broth. After years of being a loyal customer, I won't be coming back. I don't understand the obsession with putting onions in my food. Why not bean sprouts? Why not basil? Why not lime? Why not hoisin sauce? Why not sriracha? Why not jalapeños? Why assume I need help putting onions in my pho? read more

I wasn't expecting too much but walked out really satisfied. I yelped this place quickly since we were in the area. Located in the Grove next to Cauldron Ice Cream. The lighting is quite dim but luckily our booth was under lights. I ordered the pho combo. Broth was very beefy and the noodles were cooked aldente. Decided to come back here for Pho, since the restaurant name is Pho Ha Noi. I was disappointed. While the restaurant give good amount of noodles and the broth tasted ok, the protein was minimal. The rare steak was thinly sliced like most restaurant, but smaller pieces and fewer for sure! I think I had like 5 slices? I also have tendon and tripe which were not so much either. Felt like I mostly ate noodles. Asked for some sliced pickled onions that took like 3 times asking before it was brought over, by then, I am half way finishing up my not so good food as it was getting cold. Went in a little less than a week ago because I was craving some pho which doesn't happen very often. This place was the closest to my house at the time. Rare steak pho was delicious and up to my standard, broth was smooth, yet flavorful. Service was particularly excellent. My waitress was an older lady, and she was an absolute peach. I want to say her name is Julie, if I remember correctly. She was always eager to help and very attentive to myself and my lady. Always came up to us with a motherly smile and she just made me feel like she was serving me her home cooked meal. Awesome atmosphere, great food, and even greater service. The broth is hearty with a good balance of flavors. The noodles are served at a good consistency. Very disappointing with quality dwindling & prices rising. Ordered their Pho Special large; and what came was a few strips of raw & cooked beef no more than 4 pieces altogether and 1 branch of basil. The rice noodles were so hard that they would not seperate upon boiling them in a pot at home. Same quality with their beef ball pho that came with no more than 3 cut up into 1/3rds. Really skimpy quantities for the price, not to mention the poor qualities! This is my go to spot when I'm craving a hot bowl of pho. I get it every time and refuse to deviate from it. I always add on their spring rolls and egg rolls as appetizers because sometimes just soup isn't enough. I only like the veggie pho here for some reason, used to get the flank steak but once I tried the veggie pho with steamed tofu and I just stick with that now. This place does not have great customer service but it's so conveniently close to me that it doesn't even bother me anymore. They are quick with bringing the food out. I'm all about that. Although this place still has the old Saigon Grille signage up, it has undergone new ownership and will re-launch into its new name Pho Ha Noi next month. I had read Donna D's review about how it's now the same owner as Pho Hung Vuong and since I remembered I liked my meal there, thought that it's a good sign seeing I didn't like it when it was Saigon Grille. So, hubby and I went there for lunch. We were pleased to find that they had the usual pho, hu tieu, bun, com available instead of the fusion style crap Saigon Grille had before. There are no good pho places in Irvine period. Often I really am not in the mood to drive all the way to Westminster when I'm craving a bowl of good noodles, but feel I am forced to purely because the thought of eating something in Irvine just doesn't appeal to me. Hubby got the hu tieu ga ($6.45). Interestingly, he asked for egg noodles (mi) instead of rice vermecelli (hu tieu) but the server told him it was only with rice vermecelli. When we got home, I saw on the take out menu that you could have it with either as it is listed as hu tieu/mi ga. In any case, the broth was really flavorful and not oily, although I must say, Pho Bo Vang in Lake Forest does a slightly better broth than here. I ordered the #47 bun tom thit nuong cha gio ($7.45). It was a huge platter which arrived with shrimp, bbq pork and lots of fresh vegetables. Only thing was they forgot the cha gio (egg rolls). When I alerted them to this, they brought me 2 -- very nice of them considering I think there was only 1 in my dish. Hubby also got a banh mi ($3.95) with chicken. I liked the filling but as usual, I don't usually like the texture of the bread it comes with. All in all a good meal. I'm just glad to know there is something close by should the craving happen. I'm giving them a 4 star rating although compared to Westminster restaurants they probably are more a 3.5, but when compared to their peers in Irvine, they get a solid 4 star rating. read more

Decent Vietnamese fare can be found in Irvine. When I used to live nearby, this is where I'd go for my Viet food fix. Sure it's no where near Little Saigon, but if you're in the mood for some Vietnamese food, this place has it. They have a long list of entrees, more than 85 in fact, but I'd try the pho, bun, or rice dishes. They also do fried pho noodles with a vegetable stir-fry which is quite tasty. My coworkers seem to enjoy going here for lunch because they can accommodate a large group. Just call ahead and give them a little notice so they can set aside some tables. They also serve coconut water, Thai iced tea, and a few desserts to boot. Service is quick here and they also take credit cards. This place has flied under the radar for us for some reason, but when we tried it, my husband and I ended up loving it! They have really good portions, and their meals can easily carry over into two. My husband gets their special grilled pork with vermicelli, and I've gotten their bun bo hue, charbroiled shrimp vermicelli, and their shrimp egg noodle soup. All the dishes were delicious and I really loved the broth for their soups. What I also really like about this place is that they are willing to sub out the beef in the bun bo hue for tofu. I had the Pho Ap Chao Beef here and it was decent. The noodles were fried nicely and there was a good assortment of vegetables to accompany the meat. The sauce was also decent and enjoyable as well. That being said though, the food was a little pricey for the portion size (just a little) and the Pho Ap Chao here didn't taste as good as the ones you would find in the Westminster area. It's one of those things where everything was acceptable on most levels but they didn't really stand out or make me consistently want to go back for. This place is the closest Vietnamese place to me, and I've come here to grab a bowl of pho when I was a little pressed on time. On both occasions, I've ordered pho. In taking a sip of the broth and nothing else, it's disappointing. The broth is watered down, the aromatics aren't fragrant on the nose, and there isn't meatiness in the taste of the soup at all. There's an adequate amount of meat and the vegetables and herbs are enough to add into the soup. I wonder if I should be ordering something else from their menu instead.
