I was craving for pho today due to the cold weather. I work in Irvine and I was too lazy to drive to the pho places in Bolsa, so I settled for Pho Ha Noi. The food was ok. Standard environment for a Pho establishment and friendly enough staff. The pho itself has its good days and bad. It definitely lacks consistency. This is my go to place in for Pho in Irvine. I am big fan of the beef rolls (#2) and the Hue style spicy beef, which is unbelievable, and they let me swap out the fat noodles with the thinner rice noodles. Nice! For me, this place is one of the best pho restaurants around here that I am willing to drive to often (I get very impatient; I hate driving far). Spring rolls taste very fresh and the peanut sauce is very yummy. The noodles are very chewy and the size of the noodles are very consistent unlike other pho restaurants. The down side is that the broth leaves me very thirsty afterwards. Prices are reasonable. The staff barely speaks English and they seem unfriendly. Many times when I sit down at a table, there are no spoons on the table so I usually have to ask for spoons or get one from the next table. I came here with my friends because we were craving some pho. The service is pretty bad because they barely speak any english. I ordered coke, but they did not give it to me but charged me for it. On the same visit, my friend's pho had a dead fly in the soup, eventhough he got it for free, it was pretty discusting. On my second visit, I ate the same thing but this time I got food poisoning. It might be from the meat or since the vegetables were dirty. The sprouts were not cleaned, it had dirt on it, and even though I said no cilantro, the soup came with it anyways. At least I wasnt bored because i had the joy of picking out every little cilantro that was in the soup. I highly don't recommend this place because there are other good pho places around Irvine. read more

It was Saturday night and my husband, one year old baby and I were eager to have tasty soup. My husband had been here before with coworkers and said it was good. We arrived at 8:30pm and the place looked nearly empty. We weren't sure that they were even open so before taking out our baby from car seat my husband went inside to check if they were open. He signaled me to come out and when we walked in the look of the waiter was priceless! He looked at us as if we were aliens with two heads! His mouth and eyes were open and he gasped in very broken English that we could not sit down. He said we could only order take out. It was 8:33pm and they were not closing until 9pm. I said you just told my husband you were open and now that we come in you say we cannot eat here. I implored, "You realize we got our baby out of the car already?!" Obviously, he was not looking to go home past 9:01pm. Certainly, parents will understand that it's not easy to get a hungry, happy to be out of the car seat baby to go back in it after a few short minutes! Walking into the restaurant, I see that there are barely any people inside. We sit down next to the window and order our food right away. After about 5 minutes, we get our spring rolls, which taste good. They also come with a side of vegetables. About 5 minutes later, I get my main dish, the filet minim with steamed rice. The meat is very tender and the rice is cooked correctly. This restaurant is overall a good place to go to if you want pho or a rice dish, and I will come back soon. read more

The one problem I find with reviews are people who have no expertise or knowledge on how to eat food of certain styles because they aren't the actually race or culture. I am actually Vietnamese so when I read half of these reviews they point out things that are obviously so ignorant. Like you give a place 1 star because they turned you away for walking in 15 minutes before they close? Pretty much every restaurant I eat at, they always give their customers like 30 minute warning that they are about to close and do you need to order anything else, and let you finish eating after closing time if you were there already, they aren't going to let you walk in and eat for like 45 minutes after closing time because they are suppose to be close. Another thing I wanted to point out is that people comment on certain food tasting bad and think its cool to use the Vietnamese names in reviews which makes it pointless when they have no idea what it means... So anyways some people always tell me they order Pho Ga in a Pho restaurant and they tell me its bad... Well Ga = Chicken in Vietnamese, and the thing about ordering that is most Vietnamese Pho places specialize in Beef Pho. So it no surprise that it taste bad. Its also most likely if order Pho Ga in a Beef Pho place you are gonna get beef broth with some chicken and its not gonna taste good. Its like going to a American Steak house and ordering a vegetarian entree. So before eating Pho and giving reviews actually know which type of Pho they specialize in, and don't order the other random things on their menu unless someone recommends it. Its kinda common sense to order what a restaurant is known for. But anyways for my actual review. 1. The broth is ok... sometimes its very bland and just taste like water with onions, sometimes it taste really strong, no guaranteeing on how strong the taste is. But one thing is definite is that it is heavily MSG laden. You will definitely feel the side effects if you drink to much of the broth. 2. They aren't cheap on how much food they give you in a bowl of Pho... but that has its up and downs. If you are a fast eater then you have no problem, but if you aren't then you might have to throw away like 1/3 of the bowl. The problem is that Bahn Pho (Rice Noodles) cook very fast compared to all other noodles, they finish cooking within 10 seconds if you use fresh noodles. So you can see that when a Pho restaurant gives you excess Pho in a bowl of steaming broth it over cooks easy and begins to dissolve making the taste unbearable. Its kind of like eating Chicken Noodle except the noodles have been over cooked for like 4 hours. 3. The meat quality isn't the best, its rather tough/chewy/hard/jerky like, but thats how most real Vietnamese Pho place is suppose to be if you order Thit Tai (Thit = Meat, Tai = Rare Beef). Its a pain to eat if you leave it in your bowl and eat it last because its just like steak; the more well cooked it is, the tougher it gets. And if you do eat it last; just drink some broth to help you swallow it. One of the benefit of eating the meat last despite the thing I just pointed out is that the meat has time flavor the broth making it taste better. When Beef Pho broth is a dark brown cloudy colored and the color is clearly attributed to meat, you know that it is in its most flavorful state, kind of like if you let wine sit for a long time, the darker it is the better it taste. 4. The service is ok, I can understand how and why some people say that the service is bad. Originally the staff there were pretty consistent, but recently they constantly change the waiters, and you can obviously tell that they aren't Americans, they are probably fresh off the boat if you get what I mean. They speak English but not much, you can order what you need from them, but it might take them a little effort to figure out what you need. No problems if you know how to speak Vietnamese. 5. Things I would recommend other than the Pho would be Cha Gio (Egg Rolls), their Thit Nuoung (Grilled Meat) entrees are pretty good, whether its with Com Tam (Com = Rice, Com Tam = Broken Rice), or Bun (other type of rice noodles that is different from Pho). 6. I would recommend that you refrain from eating Bahn Mi items (Bahn Mi = Bread), it obviously overpriced and you're in a Pho restaurant why would order a sandwich/baguette. If you want good Vietnamese sandwiches, go to Lee Sandwiches, or other places that specialize in sandwiches. read more

My experience here will go into the annals of "my worst restaurant experience". I cannot write a fair review about the food because I ended up walking out of the restaurant. Service is a problem here. I ordered a bowl of pho noodles and my wife ordered crispy combination noodles. My noodles came out within 5 minutes, awesome right? No. The crispy noodles take a lot longer to make, and the server failed to tell us while we were ordering. 25 minutes pass, and the crispy noodles finally come out. As my wife digs into her noodles, the server looks perplexed. He switched our order with another table, then attempted to correct his mistake. Problem was, both patrons had already broken the crispy noodles, and we asked for a fresh order. They take the noodles away. Not less that 3 minutes later, another server drops off the SAME EXACT dish. I'm hungry, livid, and resigned at the prospect that they would correct their mistake. Of course I will never return here, but my feeling is that they will probably be shut down by the health board soon. read more

The prices here are the cheapest I've seen out of all the Pho restaurants I've had in Irvine...However the Large bowl is smaller than what I'm used to. The service here is very friendly and the waiters want to make sure that you get what you want. I asked for fish sauce and they even offered me the sweet chili version (that is normally used for spring rolls). I live in the heart of Little Saigon surrounded by a surplus of good pho and vietnamese food. I decided to go along with a group of friends that suggested eating here. I was very skeptical but thought it might be good considering the location of the restaurant was in a nice shopping plaza in Irvine. I shouldve gone with my initial gut feeling!! Most ordered pho considering the places specialty would be pho thus the name. I ordered the pho with the cooked meat and rare combination with meatballs. When the food came, it did not even look presentable! The broth of the pho was cloudy like it's been cooked with alot of msg and artificial flavor. For sure not the traditional authentic way of cooking pho with meat and bone broth. The noodles were overcooked and stuck together and expanded in the bowl. The meat had no flavor and the rare meat was so tough to chew on. They skimp on the meat and only give you a few pieces along with two small meatballs. Majority was the over expanded noodles in a tasteless broth. The green onions for garnished was scattered throughout the bowl and did give it a nice presentation. Two thumbs down. Overall, if you want to try what bad pho tastes like, come here. read more

I wish there was the option of 0 stars!!! I came to this location for the time with a friend. I decided to order their noddles with chicken and veggies. My friend ordered a steak pho. I ended up finding a long hair strand in my dish. So I decide to talk to the server about it, he literally gave me a blank face and said soooooo what do you want? Instead of apologizing or saying what can I get you instead. He decides to walk away and anyways I wasn't going to order anything else after. Because if one dish is like that I am sure all of them are about the same. And then when we are leaving, the cashier brings me a bill! I am a regular customer at this joint or should I say I WAS a regular. I have them two stars because there food is good when the get the order right. But then again it comes down to noodles and broth. I order on the phone most of the time because we're usually on the go. When I pick up the phone and order the rare steak pho and vermicelli spring rolls I can only assume that they knew what my order was, but with past experience I have learned to confirm the order before hanging up the phone. I had picked up my food within five minutes which a great part of their service but when I got home I was a little surprised. The part of my meal I was looking most forward to ( the BEEF spring rolls) was instead shrimp and chicken. This was not the first time they got the order wrong so I gave them a ring. The woman I had spoken to in the phone says that I order shrimp spring rolls and she tried to convince herself and I that I order what she had given me. After a couple of minutes going back and forth, getting more annoyed and angry each time she told me I was wrong I finally asked her I she was going to give some type of credit or discount for the next time i came in she insisted she got it right. I go there weekly and spend about $11 dollars, how hard can it be to give me spring rolls that cost $3.50 rather than losing $44 a month. I will not go back there and either should you. read more

this is a solid four star irvine restaurant. they made me cold tofu spring rolls and the peanut sauce kinda tasted like peanut butter ice cream but room temperature. and i loooooooove peanut butter ice cream. i got some crispy rice noodles with vegetable and tofu chop suey. it was delicious! there was plentiful bok choy which always earns some brownie points for me and the tofu was done really well. it all came to $13 and i still have half of it left over! i will definitely be coming back when i need some vietnamese food and westminster is too far. read more

I had the chicken pho and it tastes good. My dinner companions also liked their food. It's not expensive - a large bowl costs a little over $7, a small one $6. The same bowl may cost you $1 less in Westminster, but it's not worth the money, time or pollution to drive to North OC. I will definitely come here again. read more

the restaurant is pretty clean and so is the food! i would recommend trying pho with rare steak or pho with rare steak and brisket. the meat is really clean and barely has any fat. the broth isn't really oily either! for you health conscience people! they have a vegetable pho with a choice of vegetable broth as well! besides the pho i've tried their chicken fried rice which was pretty good, the spring rolls which again are just typical and their chicken bahn mi which yeah.....i advise you NOT to eat. i consider the bread to be the highlight of a bahn mi but the one i tried wasn't good at all. and the meat was marinated in some weird sauce.... all in all if you're in the area and you're craving some basic pho then this place won't fail you. read more

I ordered a large chicken rice noodle pho. The food came out very quickly. The noodles and broth were good. Large quantity of chicken meat, but it wasn't tender and may have been overcooked. This is a great Pho place. I read all the reviews about the horrible service and thought I would try it out anyways since its close to my house. The Pho was great! My first visit, I ordered the fully cooked brisket Pho. The wait staff does rush you to order and doesn't come by to check on you very often but all you have to do is get their attention and ask for what you need. I also love that they give you tons of ice with your water. My boyfriend and I went back again and I ordered the rare steak Pho but asked that they cook it. It was good too. We both really liked the food and got good service both times PLUS you can't beat the price. We both ate for $15! read more

So to start, let me first say that I'm not a pho connoisseur. I do like pho, but so far the only pho I like is the homemade kind. But Viet food is more than just pho, there are also various charbroiled meats and noodles without any broth. I can't comment on Pho Ha Noi's pho, but I love their other dishes. My particular favorite is the charbroiled pork & shrimp over vermicelli (#46 or 47 on the menu). I also love the iced coffee and eggrolls here.
