Just a bit confusing name-wise... sign outside and menus say 'Pho Kadao', but the Yelp listing is 'Pho Dakao'. To further add to the confusion, there is a Pho Dakao in OC and by the looks of it, they're very similar. I would guess they're affiliated even. It feels like there is some sort of wink wink joke here that I'm on the outside looking in. I only mention this because I was a bit thrown off when I first walked up to the spot. Either way, this place is great! They have some cafe style specialties, but it seems by far they specialize in free range chicken pho/ noodles. It seems like chicken pho is a footnote if that at other pho spots I've been to, but it is the only thing they serve here (no beef pho). You can also order the glass noodles, which is what I did. I got a large bowl of mien ga di bo (free range chicken glass noodle soup) w/ white meat chicken. This was perfect for a cold / damp evening. It really hit the spot. The veggies/ limes given are fresh and the food is prepared really well (I loved the broth). At first the prices look slightly high (but I feel like it's normal these days), but actually, you get the large bowl, and a really healthy portion of chicken that they serve on the side. So it really feels like a great value! In terms of service, it's one of those places where you probably have to wave someone down if you want anything, which is fine by me. I would come here specifically for their delicious chicken broth goods. Came here because some family members recommended the Pho Ga. I didn't like it as much because I thought the flavor was a bit more basic. However, I found the lomo saltado and garlic noodles with shrimp to be super delicious! I would come back for the grilled items and not the pho personally. So we didn't actually eat here but I was having a stomach ache from eating some Chinese food and I wanted hot tea to soothe it. We went to a few places nearby and no one had tea, my mom ended up going in and asking if they had it and the guy at the front said they did. He came back with two cups in a little carrier tray and said it was on the house. My mom was surprised that he didn't want her to pay, so she gave him a few bucks as a tip instead. Their takeout alone has been amazing and I am such a huge fan of their chicken pho and porridge with giblets. The pho broth is so clean and healing and they give you generous portions of chicken on the side. I especially love the specialty ginger dipping sauce they serve with the chicken. I just read Cindy S.' review and just had to try this relatively new Vietnamese restaurant. I called in for take-out and ordered the Chicken Pho and Garlic Shrimp Noodles just to try some of the foods I'm familiar. The food was prepared in 15 minutes and steaming hot when I arrived. As for the other patrons, the restaurant was about half full on this rainy day. Appearance inside is rather elegant and has a slightly Thai feel to it. I think it's better to dine in, so all I need to do is point at pictures, as I really could not describe the type of Chicken Pho I wanted. Needless to say, the Pho came out beautifully, even with my language barrier. As soon as I got home, the wife dug into the garlic noodles and shrimp, which were BBQ rather than steamed or boiled. Going in person, I discovered the restaurant name was actually Pho Kadao. Other places are better in terms of taste, but not to say this place isn't bad. I just prefer the dishes to not use lard to cook the dishes. This place is my new favorite obsession! Pho Kadao is located in the Garvey Square shopping center near GW Supermarket. It's a little hard to find because the entrance is inside the market! I highly recommend trying any of their chicken pho dishes! The broth is really clean, and you have the option to choose between dark or white meat. Personally I love the glass noodles. I would also recommend the lomo saltado with garlic noodles. This dish rivals the one at Vox Kitchen in both taste and price. The best pho is really always in South El Monte though I really love this space for the big parking lot. South El Monte has a rapid expanding growth fuel of Asian businesses including restaurants, 6+ new boba stores, Hong Kong Dim Sum, Taiwanese Shaved Ice, and more. I think the chicken serving soup did lack a bit of flavor but it is still a good one in the region. My servers were really nice during the time that I was eating there. All the pho bowls came out within 10 minutes but the rice dish did not arrive until 1327, over 30 minutes later after everyone was done eating. We had asked them to check in to see if they forgot our order but they just said rice dishes take a while. So keep that in mind in case you are in a hurry during lunch break. The pho filet and free range chicken pho were both delicious. The soup broth was not that great and tasted sweet like a lot of msg, however the noodles were chewy and perfect. The fried rice dish was good, after it finally came out. The filet mignon was very tender and perfectly cooked. I will definitely make this spot our go to place but may not order a rice dish. The parking lot is big but it gets so busy when peak grocery shopping and lunch hours collide. You will be fighting for spots or walking far. The foods not bad, but here's a list of things that went wrong: - long hair in my food...gross - raw rice grain was in my spring roll for some reason and i nearly chipped a tooth - some random leaf was in one of our waters (not meant to be there either) - they didn't give enough water for everyone at the table and I had to ask them twice. - they gave the wrong table our food Clearly they lack an attention to detail. It's a shame because these are things that can easily be fixed if they trained their employees better and implemented new processes to avoid these rookie mistakes. Other weird things: - their name on the menu is different from yelp so I had to double check if it was the right place - the menu says they charge extra for take out. If they nickel and dime people over packaging, are they doing the same when selecting ingredients? Makes you wonder. 3 stars. They need to get their act together, but their business shouldn't be killed over small fixable mistakes. The person (who I assume is the owner) seems nice, so I hope they improve.
