Im no pho snob... in fact, a few of my favorite pho places are more trendy / hipster and miles from the convoy area. cough, OB noodle house, cough cough. hey man...their broth base is outstanding. So ya, white girl with no pho taste, checking in! Haha, hardly. im just not a snob about it and i give this place kudos for being in driving distance from my work - which is pretty much a wasteland of food options in general (up the hill in torrey pines across from USCD-land). Amazing? no... perfectly good? yes. Busy as hell during weekday lunch? Yep, be prepared. and the parking lot in this complex is a big pain. It was a typical may gray day and definitely pho weather... I had wanted to go out with some co-worker friends for a quick-meal and pho is always the recipe for all of this. I got the rare beef - meat on the side! - thats the way to do it if you don't like your meat getting extra cooked sitting in the hot broth. It was tasty. We also got an order of egg rolls...which were also tasty. And I got a boba thai iced tea which was delicious and quickly gone before any food even arrived. This place is pretty good if you're not a Pho snob. Pho La Jolla is a big place that can seat lots of people, there are lots of options on the menu and the serving size is on the larger size. I got the seafood Pho and it was as good, as good as any other Pho place. I'll probably never come back because I was just visiting the area but I wished they had more appetizers like steamed rice, single pork chop, etc. I'd eat here again if the moons lined up properly. read more

I need to update my review since we have been eating here several times since my last review. This place is our go to place to eat every time we are staying at Sheraton. Tonight both my hubby and I ordered the #1 Pho with everything on it. This is my hubby's favorite as for me its the Spicy Beef noodle. We also like their salad or bun as well as their 12" takeout sandwich. The lemongrass chicken was good. I like that the bun is lightly toasted to a crunch. Service is also fast and efficient Will definitely keep on coming back. read more

I've been craving pho for the past week or so, and since this is the closest location to school, I decided to venture out here again after two years of not coming here. (Can't really recall what happened my first time either...) We ordered: -noodle soup #7 (one size only, large): rare steak and beef meatballs ($7.95) -vermicelli noodles #51: grilled beef tenderloin ($8.50) Pros: -soup was hot. I've been to pho places where the noodles are cold and the soup is room temperature. The broth was steaming hot to cook the meat! -quick service. In about 10 minutes or less, we got our food served to us. -good variety of condiments. Sriracha, oyster (seafood) sauce, chili sauce, pepper, salt, soy sauce...yay! -Not too salty. I'm always in constant fear that pho places make the broth out of MSG. Though this place isn't the most flavorful, but it didn't leave a heavy aftertaste on my tongue. Cons: -smaller portions than what I remembered/expected. Most vermicelli are served in bowls, so you get a lot of noodles. This one was laid across a square plate topped with meat and some vegetables. Pho didn't have a lot of meat either, or noodles. -service was mediocre. They sat us down at a table, dropped off the menu and just left. Didn't really come get us either when we were ready--we had to go up to pay. Tips/Observations: -There is outdoor seating, if you are into that! Overall, I would come here again if I was craving pho really badly but I wouldn't mind going elsewhere. read more

This pho place ir pretty pricey for a Pho place, usually it costs about $5 a bowl this one is nearly $7 for a small. It did lack something flavor, but it wasn't too bad. I think it's a really good hang over food, and it's close by, so I came here for those 2 reasons. I normally go to Pho Hoa Hiep in Linda Vista. I'll come here next time for a Viet sandwich, I miss those things, and this place looks like they have okay priced sandwiches! read more

I don't understand why this place gets so much hate. The food may be more for the American palette and the prices may be a dollar or two more expensive, but the location and overall taste makes Pho La Jolla super convenient. Whenever my friends and I had an urge for viet food, we would take the 10 minute trek down Gilman to this restaurant. I can't tell you the countless times we would walk here for a post hangover meal, or whenever the dining halls closed (yay for being open until 11 pm). I find it pretty humorous that the servers aren't Asian but they are super nice and are quite efficient with taking your order and serving your food. I usually go for the large pho with rare steak (~$10) or the spicy beef noodle soup whenever they have it. I like how they are not skimpy with the meat, I usually have to leave a piece of two behind at the end since they give you so much meat. Sure you can get better pho 10-15 minutes away in kearny or clairemont mesa, but for this place to be literally walking distance from campus, I can't complain at all. read more

I don't understand why people give this place under 3 stars...I'm Vietnamese and I've been eating Pho my whole life. Most pho places taste the same because lets face it, they use the same ingredients: - Bean sprouts - Herbs, jalapenos - Meat - Pho noodles (theres not too many brand of pho noodles, its all store bought- this stuff ain't homemade in San Diego) - Broth (Pho Cube- don't know what this is?Go to a Vietnamese supermarket and look at the Broth section) The only place I know that actually puts labor into their broth (boil meat and bones all day) is Pho Hoa. I've grown so accustomed to the Pho cube flavor that its pretty obvious who does the cheat method. And theres a low cap on everything else, not like everybody else is using the freshest, non-gmo, organic, local farming ingredients. Sure I think Pho Cow Cali and Pho Ban Mai are better but honestly not by much. If you have a pho craving, I think this does a decent job. Just because its in boujie la jolla and only vietnamese restaurant in town, that this isn't "legit vietnamese" food. Their Banh Mi is also pretty bomb. I go to Ba Le in Mira Mesa and omg the banh mi here is pretty comparable. Plus the foot long is such a good deal if to-go!! I'm so glad I don't have to go far to get my pho fix. And if yall really want LEGIT vietnamese food, sorry it ain't in Mira Mesa. It's in City Heights. Pho is like the tip of the ice berg, try banh cuon or bun rieu. The pho here is a little bit more on the pricier end just with regards to the rest of the pho restaurants in San Diego, and it is average, nothing out of the ordinary. My friend ordered Bun Bo Hue and the waiter asked "how spicy do you want it on a scale from 1-10" and my friend, who is Vietnamese, was taken aback because this dish is supposed to be spicy beef noodle soup...So she said 5 and when the soup came out it looked really bland and we both agreed that it tasted exactly like the pho soup with added spicy sauce...it was not Bun Bo Hue:( BUT I ordered the combination fried rice and that was some really tasty fried rice!! It was so flavorful and the bbq pork in it was sweet and really yummy. Would highly recommend trying the combination fried rice (came in a large portion as well) but this may not be the best place for noodles. read more

The Pho is good, and comes in a very large serving. They advertise vegan spring rolls and other vegan appetizers but every time I've come in they never have them. Maybe they run out? Idk. I will say the service leaves me not wanting to come back. I've been twice only because I was feeling a cold come on and Pho is always the answer. Pho is one of my go to foods. The soup here is great... savory and not too much salt or fat. For me their portions are great. I got the regular and ate half for my dinner. I took the other half home and ate it for lunch the next day (make sure to separate the soup from the noodles so they noodles don't soak up all the soup). It re-heated well. The service was on the slow side, but friendly. There's parking in front of the restaurant. There's other parking around the building but there were signs that said 30 min parking only- don't know how strictly they enforce that. The price of this restaurants food has doubled in the last two years and it is 100% not worth it. I ordered tofu/veggie spring rolls here today and it was literally just rice noodles, a single piece of tofu, and a piece of lettuce inside for NINE DOLLARS??? The service is horrible and the man who runs the restaurant hikes up all his prices on delivery apps as well by at least five dollars an item. This place is close to UCSD so it's nice for students. Got a vegetarian sandwich/banh mi which was good, but I found it weird that it was the same price as the meat since tofu is generally cheaper, and same goes for the tofu pho although I didn't get that. I have lived in the neighborhood for about a year now. This is literally the best pho within miles. It's always hot and made exactly how you order. The pho, spring and egg rolls are my favorite. My fellow UCSD students this a must go dinner spot. It's perfect to get your pho basically noodle soup. I have gone here for years and needed to share that I have kept coming back years after graduating. It's not a high end fancy restaurant but it's not a fast food place that's so gross. It's a perfect blend of whole in the wall but great food. My favorite meal is the chicken pho and the combination fried rice ( yeah that's for sharing ). I've loved this place ever since I moved to San Diego in 2012. I recently tried the Pho and the broth is awesome. I used to be a Bahn Mi after surfing Blacks type guy, but with some dietary sensitivities that have crept up over the years, Phô is a much better option. PORTIONS ARE TINY I ordered the La Jolla Rice Combo Special (Rice with grilled pork, grilled shrimp, & fried egg) which I paid about $12 for so you would expect a pretty decent meal.. but NOOPE, I was wrong and left extremely disappointed. I actually literal got maybe 3 pieces of very SMALL shrimp and 3, maybe 4 thin slices of pork. This is ridiculous. As for taste, it was just okay.. nothing really worth mentioning. Not sure if it was because I ordered for to-go/pick-up? The pictures they have on their menu for the dine in items looked pretty decent but maybe they figured if its to-go, they're allowed to be stingy with their portions. Thats pretty messed up if you ask me but I guess the lower rated reviews for this place make more sense now. Kind of sucks that this is basically the only Vietnamese place in La Jolla but I guess thats how they keep their business. Egg roll is ok. Special comb# 1 is great. The service guy was good. The service lady is not friendly. We walked in around 6 and about 1/3 of the restaurant were full. Not too busy. When I walked in ( group of 2) with my big backpack, she lead us to a table for 2. Half of the table is already occupied by the source they put on each tale . I asked if we may sit in a bigger table, she said no, it was almost dinner time and there would be lots of people coming.
