With such raving reviews, Pho-Licious was only bookmarked for one day before we decided to come here for lunch on a cold and cloudy day. We had a bit of trouble looking for the restaurant, thanks to whomever submitted the wrong restaurant address; the zip code is 91006, not 91007. The restaurant is small with only 12 tables or so, but very clean with modern decor. Mistaking them for another Vietnamese restaurant I had bookmarked, I was disappointed they didn't have Bo Luc Lac (Shaking Beef) with Com Do Cà Chua (tomato paste rice). My first visit, I decided to get Pho Ga (chicken pho). George W. ordered Pho Tai (they used Filet Mignon) with a side of brisket, and crispy egg rolls. Served with large and fresh pieces of lettuce, the rolls were pretty good. I might even like them more than the ones at Golden Deli... However, my bowl of pho left me wanting. Although George W. and I both agreed the meat quality was very, very good (all chicken, filet mignon, and brisket were tender and juicy), I thought the broth was the exact opposite -- almost flavorless, and at times a bit funny tasting. And this may either be a plus or minus, the portion seemed a lot bigger than both Golden Deli and Saigon Eden. For two bowls of pho, an appetizer, and a Thai Iced Tea, the total came to $25, which is pretty standard for Vietnamesse fare. My second visit, I went with my parents and ordered their Chicken Curry with French Bread. The curry's flavor was fantastic, but so so so spicy. I ate half before giving the rest to my dad just because I couldn't handle it... Definitely recommended to spicy food lovers. I tried the pho soup again and just like the first time, I didn't like it. It was very sour tasting, which is supposedly how authentic pho tastes like in Vietnam. Since Pho-Licious is nearby and closer than Golden Deli or Saigon Eden, I wouldn't mind coming by for a quick dinner and getting their Chicken Curry again (hopefully not as spicy next time). read more

Friendly people and tasty food is my criteria for coming back. I bring family and friends to this place as it's close to the house and price is reasonable. I'm surprised this place has such good reviews. The service is horrible and the pho is overpriced and not authentic. I came here craving a bowl of pho on this rare gloomy SoCal day and left still craving a bowl of pho. A bowl of pho here ranges from $8-9. The quality of the meat was really good, but the pho tasted off. Also, it took over 20 minutes to get our pho... That's ridiculous. I don't care if it's the best pho ever (which it wasn't) it shouldn't take that long. Our noodles were undercooked too. We waited 20 min for our food and it comes out undercooked?! Seriously?! Servers are really horrible. I rarely saw someone on the floor and it was super hard to get one's attention. We had something floating in our water cup and tried to get it exchanged but it was about 10 min before we could get someone's attention. The water tasted weird too. And there was a nasty smell outside the restaurant that followed us into the restaurant as well. Gag. Geeeeez. Never again. I want to give this place a full 5-stars because: 1. It's restaurant is fairly clean and modern. 2. Staff is friendly. Our server even came by our table to ask if everything was good. (I mean, who does that at a el cheapo pho place?? I always expect I-could-care-less type of service!) 3. The veggies for my pho looked clean and fresh. 4. The food tastes clean. 5. Our BBQ pork spring roll, filet mignon rice dish, and seafood pho were all quite tasty! However, I dock one star because I was super duper thirsty and sleepy the rest of day. My extreme thirst and fatigue leads me to believe that they add a lot of MSG into their broth. It also explains why one of the first things I noticed was my broth was so nice and "sweet." I gotta give this place another try and I'm looking forward to coming back again. Oh yea, they take credit cards as well, which makes it convenient for diners. Parking is ample as well. The fiancé has been wanting to try Pho-Licious for a while now, but I've been kind of hesitant that it wouldn't be OG. Upon entering, the restaurant was actually really busy! You sign in with the number in your party, but there really isn't an area inside to wait for your name to be called. I wouldn't recommend getting seated in their patio only because people smoke outside.... The fiancé ordered the rare beef flank pho; I tried a few pieces of the flank and it was starchy. My beef brisket was soft and tender and was so much better! Prices range from $7-9/bowl (pricier than pho joints in the heart of the SGV). They charge for hot tea, which is also not common with most places in the SGV don't. This is the original Pholicious location and I like it better than the one on Lower Azusa. Whenever I come, I always get the Pho Dac Biet. The broth is flavorful and they are not skimpy on the meat portion. The price is a bit pricer than other pho restaurants but I think it's worth it for the quality. The staffs there are very welcoming and friendly. My friend and I got the House Special that's only $7!! The portion was pretty big for me. The bean sprouts and the basil (?) The place is clean. The waitress was friendly and polite. I had the bbq pork BUN. The meat was flavorful and tender. The volume was enough for me to take half home and make it another meal. People have been complaining about the price but I am not sure how it compares to other places. I honestly don't pay enough attention...it was still less than $10. This is THE spot for pho/Vietnamese food when I'm in the neighborhood. Everything is delicious here. I particularly love there pork spring rolls, egg rolls, lemongrass chicken salad, and chicken pho. One of my favorite things about this spot is the young man who always waits on us. He has done me every favor I've ever asked. "Can I order just ONE egg roll?" Despite trying multiple pho spots in LA county, pho-licious is my go to! Its broth's tasteful flavor is incomparable.

Not your typical run of the mill Pho place... because 1) not as ghetto, quite clean and nicely furnished with the square plates (not the ghetto fabulous plastic plates with red Asian flower trim on the side), 2) a bit fusion and 3) small and fast. We had the chicken salad, the beef vermicelii with lemongrass sauce and the fried spring rolls. The fried spring rolls were different than your normal run of the mill Vietnamese spring rolls, they almost tasted a bit Phillipino but definitely still good wrapped in lettuce with me fish sauce smothered over shredded turnip and carrot. As always, without some insight into whether it's kid friendly... it's probably not super kid friendly as there is no kids' menu or crayons to play with.. but it's pretty 7 month baby sleeping friendly as my carseat fit comfortably into the booth (not too busy at lunch on a Monday). Warning, no slings, no high chairs (at least none that I saw or were offered) and the homeboy waiter doesn't speak English very well... so it was a bit hard to understand what he meant when he asked me what sauce I wanted (the options are lemongrass, curry and something else.... errr but he said lemongrass was the most popular, that or he had no idea what I was asking...) The presentation was beautiful, and even better since I could care less about presentation, was the ginormous proportions! Tons of shredded and very tasty flavored chicken on our salad with just the right amount of dressing, and even the fish sauce (smothered over shredded carrots and turnips) came in a cute square but round, round but square, bowl! Magnificent! Take careful note of not only the molding, but the designs atop the crown molding and the texture of the beige walls underneath the black framed mirrors. Simply beautiful, too bad they don't have any real flowers like Chick-Filet... oh well... another day. I'd go back! And I love that it's kind of a hole in the wall by my favorite cheap nail place (Eagle's Nails) on sixth and Live Oak.... I'd go back! Oh, and they refilled my water when I drank it all. Good prices and the soup is definitely flavorful. I personally like a spot in Rosemead better, but this is closer to home. The soup is still hot even when I pick it up to go. When I am itching for Pho, I will come here when I am nearby. Sodas are by the can and finding it is hard as it is on the street corner, but the sign is to the left. I have passed it so many times. The parking was ample, the service was attentive and friendly, the food was not bad and the price was good. We ordered Shrimp sping rolls, a shrimp pho and two Thai tea. The spring roll was nothing special even though the dish was well decorated. Inside the roll, big pieces of cucumber made me i ate a cheap food. i like the finely chopped veggies. And the shrimps and the peanut sauce were very salty. The shrimp pho was OK. The broth was delicious for today. And my friend liked so many shrimps. The Thai tea was also OK. The service was excellent. They were super nice to us; fast, friendly, the big smile and explaining everything i wanted to know. The ambiances was good. very clean and well decorated. But, the outside of the restaurant was dingy. One thing i really preferred to was the price. Every food was very affordable. We only spent 20 bucks. Great pho! I ordered the rare filet mignon steak pho for only $10 and it was a large portion. The food here is good, but the service is not amazing. The servers don't understand English that well, so it was hard asking them questions about the menu. Ok, this is the BEST pho outside of Saigon (except for at my brother in law's mom's house, and she is from Vietnam). Soooooooo flavorful! Even the chicken broth version! I really can't get pho anywhere else now. Everybody else's is just disappointing! The ban mi is unbelievable. My sister just told me she has literally never eaten an entire ban mi before ...until now.! My dad loves the bbq pork and gets it every single time. My kids love the lemongrass chicken fried rice. Came here based on finding it on Yelp but was not really satisfied -_-. The restaurant itself is rather tiny. Reminds me of a Subway. The seating is kind of cramped. The one thing that bothered me was the smell when I walked in. It smelled kind of like armpit sweat + pho broth. I can't really describe it but it was something not so pleasant. Anyways, after a few minutes my nose got used to the smell. Prices: Very high. Though high, I think their quantity makes up for it because the bowl we got was huge. Taste: MEH. The price of this place is higher than any other Pho shops I know. The Pho bowl is not that large, and I am a pretty small person... Its 8$ for chicken Pho, most of the prices are around 8$+ few dollars more than other Pho around the place. But I do like how their white meat chicken is soft and not too dried. ( you get to pick dark or white meat) Their curry chicken is delicious, a bit on the salty side, and very spicy. You can choose rice or a baguette. My Pho'st time having Pho! lol I was too full yesterday after eating my take out to leave a review. I've recovered and man was it great! I had the Filet Mignon and Brisket Pho and my girlfriend had the Shrimp Pho. We also shared the shrimp spring rolls! Everything hit the spot! The spring roll peanut dip was great! People on Yelp weren't lying when they said this place packages their "to go" orders great. Because they did exactly that! There was more then enough broth and at first I didn't know how much i was going to like the rare meat. Pros-food is good. I like the curry chicken, spring rolls and pho. Cons-Female Cashier/Waitress doesn't know she is rude and slow. She kind of throws the bowls on the tables lol. My sister and I were like what is wrong with her? I used their restroom and saw her filing her nails at the cash register. All off her dead nail ashes were falling onto the counter and then she would wipe them onto the ground. I thought it was pretty disgusting. The owner saw her doing it and didn't say anthing. I should have trusted my instinct and not go to places that ends with Licious. Upon arriving, we saw people waiting by the door so i though hmm maybe it wouldn't be so bad . Parking was small so luckily we found street parking. Small tiny restaurant with limited seatings. If your claustrophobic, good luck to you. Even tho I'm not i still feel it's too small and cramped in there. Ordered the house special pho like I'd normally order at any restaurant. Broth was okay, nice and clear . Hubby ordered the chicken with mushroom rice. Looks like a dish you'll cook for someone who's white washed . Nothing Vietnamese about it. The shrimp spring roll is packed with lettuce. If you want good pho and good Vietnamese food, avoid this place and drive further down to garvey or valley where there's plenty to chose from. We just stumbled upon this place only because we were nearby and hubby was starving. Service was okay, but never came by to refill our drinks until the very end. They stayed by the counter gossiping the whole time. Eating here reminds me of a Vietnamese restaurant in a small city in North Carolina , where they charge you for over priced pho and non authentic rice dishes that caters more to non Asians.
